He gave me confidence and joy. Through his singing. I believe in heaven. And I believe we meet our loved ones again. Even for a little chat. Saw him sing 4 times, in Groningen, Enschede, Hengelo and Amsterdam (The Netherlands). Shook his hand. His singing helped me through some ruff stuff. What a guy.
I've listened to Scott Weilands Christmas album during the holidays forever, but this will probably be my favorite Christmas album. Dark Mark does Christmas is perfection.
Joseph was an old man And an old man was he When he married Virgin Mary The Queen of Galilee As Mary and Joseph were walking one day To an orchard of cherry trees they chanced for to stray And Mary said to Joseph So meek and so mild Pick me some cherries, Joseph For I am with child But Joseph flew angry So angry flew he Let the father of your baby Gather cherries for thee When up spoke Lord Jesus From in his mother's womb Bow down low, cherry trees Bow down to the ground And the cherry trees they bowed down Bowed low to the ground And Mary gathered cherries While Joseph stood around Then Joseph took Mary all upon his right knee Come tell me, pretty baby When your birthday shall be On the fifth day of January My birthday shall be And the stars in the heaven Shall all bow down to me

Jeff Fielder? I believe he's still playing with him. I've seen Mark live a handful of times over the years, and all but one of those shows it was just him and that guitar player on stage. I get being put off by the seemingly unnecessary theatrics I guess, but he is a very good guitarist to be able to support an entire concert of Lanegan's vocals single handedly.
Does anyone know the origin of the "5th day of January" line? History would tell me it's a protest against England's adoption of the Gregorian Calendar but when was the line added and who by if anyone knows please?
Stefan Bulatovic Thanks for the reply but doubt it. There's a lot of history to the calendar change. It resulted in riots and protests in London with people hold signs saying vitally important things such as "I missed my birthday".
As far as i know, it is related to calendars. Let's just remember that for Orthodox Christians, Christmas Is Not In December 25. The difference is that almost all the globe, considers the Roman Christmas as the most legitimate. So the song seems to follow that tradition.
@@Agent_Riot-2000 While I understand why you say that, Orthodox Christians do recognise December 25th as the birthday of Christ. The issue is that many Orthodox still use the (old) Julian Calendar because they don't accept the (new) Gregorian Calendar, a 16th century revision made by the Pope to solve the problem of the calendar falling out of step with the seasons. Currently, the Julian Calendar is 13 days behind the Gregorian which is what causes many Orthodox to observe Christmas on January 6th according to the Gregorian Calendar. It's because Dec 25 on the Julian Calendar is Jan 6 on the Gregorian. But prior to 1900, it was Jan 5. (1900 was a leap year on the Julian Calendar but not on the Gregorian.)

Rest in peace dear Mark
Might be my favorite song Mark performed. Hits hard.

Joseph was an old man
And an old man was he
When he married Virgin Mary
The Queen of Galilee
As Mary and Joseph were walking one day
To an orchard of cherry trees they chanced for to stray
And Mary said to Joseph
So meek and so mild
Pick me some cherries, Joseph
For I am with child
But Joseph flew angry
So angry flew he
Let the father of your baby
Gather cherries for thee
When up spoke Lord Jesus
From in his mother's womb
Bow down low, cherry trees
Bow down to the ground
And the cherry trees they bowed down
Bowed low to the ground
And Mary gathered cherries
While Joseph stood around
Then Joseph took Mary all upon his right knee
Come tell me, pretty baby
When your birthday shall be
On the fifth day of January
My birthday shall be
And the stars in the heaven
Shall all bow down to me

yeah. like it.
I'm a true sucker for authentic, Appalachian music.
StephenAndrew777 I hope he's fired that communist dweeb of a guitarist though. I certainly would. He sure is hamming it up, "accidentally."

HannibalOrJustRex If he was accidentally undermining the performance, I take it back. But not otherwise.
@@StephenAndrew777 jesus should he stand there motionless? dudes a great and i mean great guitarist and well respected.
I know he's a good player. It just seemed like he was being disrespectful to the song and traditionalism in general. I could always be mistaken.
