  • In this video I will demonstrate the opposite result of what might happen if you connect incorrectly the negative charger connector to the actual scrap metal instead of the piece that you want to clean. I am using electrolysis rust removal for this process on a new 10" spanner ;-)

    Is that spanner chrome plated? I thought it was a no-no to do this to a chromed object since you could release deadly toxins into the solution...

      Well in the past I used the vinegar a few times with no issue, as I use this process maybe once or twice a year usually I just get new vinegar ;-)

    If those are your mig welds on that metal maybe try flipping the polarity of your machine and it will run way smoother!xD there are vids on UA-cam showing how to. Great video btw

    Just a word of caution: using chrome vanadium (plated) steel as the sacrificial anode is just as bad as using stainless steel, because the same toxic chromium will plate into the water.

    Hi, thanks for the excellent video. I have a question: can this method be used to remove rust from chromoly steel? Is chromoly considered a type of stainless steel? Also, what is the current for that 12V battery?

    This video should come with a serious health warning ! Don't use stainless steel as a sacrificial electrode. The 'Spanner' quite literally is wrong ! It's contains Chromium and Vanadium and chromate ions formed in the breakdown reaction is toxic and particularly nasty, so if you don't want your teeth falling out and your hair turning green I suggest you use a regular piece of mild steel that you know has zero rust inhibiting elements added...good old fashioned rusty Iron is best if you can't get hold of mild steel..

    • @epiefresquez4753
      @epiefresquez4753 5 років тому +1

      agavehouse he stressed not to use stainless steel and if you watch his other videos he gives a lot of information. So why did you waste your time and rude way of warning. Like if he didn’t do it.

    why stainless steel is not recommended ?

    • @aleksandersuur9475
      @aleksandersuur9475 7 років тому +13

      Stainless steel contains chromium that forms rather toxic compounds. So does that vanadium-chrome spanner actually, the green fuzz he pointed out were probably the chromium compounds, could have been vanadium compounds(also toxic). Should be fine, if you treat the electrolyte as chemical waste, but if you dump it down the toilet its a bit of an issue.

      victor, lo que muestran acá es lo que pasa si conectas los cables positivo/negativo al reves; la pieza que queres limpiar se oxida como ( según el video) si hubiese estado en agua salada por dos años. en si el proceso es poner los cables al revés de como se muestra acá colocar las piezas en agua con carbonato de sodio ( el polvo blanco que le hecha con la cuchara) y dejarlas actuar, el las deja por 48 hrs, luego de ese proceso las sumerge en vinagre por 1 hr, y aconseja aceitarlas para que la humedad y la suciedad no las oxiden nuevamente. el proceso por si queres buscarlo en español se llama limpieza por electrolisis!.. espero que te sirva!!

    • @Flamingfurnace
      @Flamingfurnace  8 років тому +7

      The purpose of this video is to introduce an excellent method of how to remove rust in a quick and very efficient way. For example If you had some old car part that you want to restore will you go and buy a new part or damage it with wire brush? I think not, then you will look for alternative methods of cleaning the rusty par, btw this video is not about De-rusting its acutely about how to rust an object on purpose.
