You should try using salt flux for separating the aluminum and dross. The slag you keep remelting is impurities stuck to the aluminum. Salt flux will separate it when mixed and stirred into the molten metal and then dross will be on the top of the pot(usually shiny black with very little pearls of aluminum beads). Cans are very dirty as far as what clean aluminum is considered.
I found your channel couple of years ago when the total metal weight was a little over 400kg. It's been very pleasant and calming to watch progress over all this time. Congrats on 801kg! Cheers!
It is strangely relaxing to watch him at work, only another couple of years to get to the 1 tonne target, I'll be lost if he just quits when he gets there, like you I got here just after the 400kg mark, I always get the urge to want to melt some metal after watching him. Best wishes from Cornwall, uk.

Well don't know why YT recommends this one, but it's an awesome melt, and that international metal treasure just made the video a bow down, cheers to the passion 👍
Thanks for the entertaining video. Fun fact: here in Germany 250 empty aluminium cans are worth 62,50€ (AUD $91,23) if you bring them back to a store to claim the deposit. So a similar video wouldn't work here 😅
Doesnt work here in Western Australia either. You get a 10c deposit back when you take them in. I (like Big Stacked) live in WA, but I also melt all my cans. No fun in taking them for recycling. I dont bother crushing them and I feed them in through the vent hole
@@arturomorales966 In Germany you pay an extra fee to buy things in glass/metal/plastic bottles and get the money back if you return them. It encourages recycling and sometimes they are refilled then sold again.
The same thing happens for shopping carts. You put a coin into the lock to unlock it and get the coin back when you return it. Kids (and me) like to return abandoned shopping carts for extra money.
So in Sweden (and many European countries) you can recycle the cans for 1kr a piece, which means those 250 cans would be worth about 24 USD, but when you melted it down to raw aluminium, it's now worth about 4,34 dollars for the 2,25kg you collected. Huge loss, but if you just like melting stuff and make youtube videos about it, it definitely adds value! :D
Some US states are the same, but it varies. .05, .10, or nothing per can. Unfortunately scrap metal prices have come down so much that throwing them in the recycling bin in a non-can fee location is the only thing that makes sense. Used to be decent money in scrap aluminum, enough that it was worth saving it until you could turn it in to a salvage place yourself. Melting things however, is always fun.

I was wondering "How much is that worth?" - and in the end, about $10. In Canada, we get 10 cents deposit per can, so you melted down $25.00 worth of cans to get $10. Think I'll just stick with taking the cans in to the depot. But, I did watch and enjoy the whole video.
Tbh him being a youtuber him melting all those cans and getting close to 7million views he made much more than $10 as revenue would be a couple thousand just for this video. But yea for the average person it's best to take to the depot. :)
But he's making serious money from this video, clicks and ad revenue are very real. I bet he made at least several times more from this one video than I'd make in a year if I could find a job (I'm in Eastern Europe)
You should never wash your car while the sun is out - for everyone out there. Always wash your car in the shade. Because water drops create lens, and they work like a magnifying glass, and burn the paint. If you do this on regular basis, the paint will fade quicker.

I can't tell you how many times I've fallen asleep watching your videos at night. I find it very relaxing and because you don't talk or have incessant music playing in the background, I'm addicted to your channel lol. Keep at it bro!!
All I can think of is that making a magazine system for this as storage for the cans would be great. Store the empty cans in a magazine and just attach it to the crusher so you don’t have to manually insert them, gravity feed it
I was thinking about how In first grade a guy came with truck loads of these and we crushed them for him. I have a vague memory that we were told it was for charity but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a lie. Might be more efficient to enlist the services of a first grade class haha
That's an interesting suggestion! Using salt flux for separating aluminum and dross seems like a viable method to remove impurities from the molten metal. It's intriguing to see how different techniques can enhance the purification process. 🧂🔥🔄 I wonder if this approach could be further optimized for large-scale aluminum recycling, especially considering the high impurity levels in cans. It's great to explore innovative ways to turn trash into treasure!

Can you provide me with an explanation to why salt can separate the 2, anything you know, maybe a chemical reaction equation

Wait , did I misunderstand? The actual cans are worth more than the melted aluminum ?
@@arturomorales966 In Germany you pay an extra fee to buy things in glass/metal/plastic bottles and get the money back if you return them. It encourages recycling and sometimes they are refilled then sold again.
The same thing happens for shopping carts. You put a coin into the lock to unlock it and get the coin back when you return it. Kids (and me) like to return abandoned shopping carts for extra money.
So for U.S.A it would be 91 american money it would be 91.00
I can just imagine this in a fantasy dwarven factory and all you hear is "FIRE UP THE METAL CRUNCHER AND MELTER"
Same in Canada, 10 cents per can. Total would be $25 CAD for 250 cans.

All I can think of is that making a magazine system for this as storage for the cans would be great. Store the empty cans in a magazine and just attach it to the crusher so you don’t have to manually insert them, gravity feed it

It's amazing how many cans it takes to fill up that comparatively tiny crucible.
The brilliance of how little metal is needed in making those cans.
Apparently n the walls of the can are 75 microns thick
is that what those things are called?? omg thank you
@@omegadragons321 Yes. The item he is dropping the cans into to melt is called a crucible, which is inside of a forge. The one he uses is specifically called a devil forge. You then pour the molten metal from the crucible into a mold, which also has to be heated. If there is any moisture on the mold at all, it could explode when it comes into contact with the metal. A steam explosion with molten metal is the makings for a bad day.
Btw, devil forges run on propane gas just like gas grills. The smallest devil forge set is as little as $350 and has all of the necessary accessories to start smelting including hoses, tongues, a 4kg crucible, gloves, etc. You'll still have to buy molds separately though. The forge gets hot enough to melt steel and graphite molds can handle those temperatures.
