  • It's warming up out there, and that means it's grilling & BBQ season! This video shows all you BGE owners, how to clean your big green egg. This is the regular BGE maintenance I perform on my egg when I notice any airflow, temperature control, and/or hard to keep the fire lit, issues. It's also something I strongly advise doing after every long slow and low BBQ session because ash is sneaky, and if you're smoking a brisket for 12+ hours, I can guarantee your big green egg is due for a thorough cleaning afterwards. Scraping ash out of the air vent is one thing, but giving it a deep clean is a game changer! Follow along and let me know what you think!

Dang that was some crazy amount of ash hiding in there.
I’d totally just take a leaf blower to it while holding my breath :^)
Hope you enjoyed La Belle France !

For 15 years I have owned a BGE. I use a shop vac with a dust collector to get the ash out after every cook. I also use an electric temp controller for my long cooks like brisket and pork shoulder.
Video Idea: make a video on how to replace the felt between the bottom of the egg and the lid. I think it will help the newer BGE owners.

A shop vac would make it MUCH easier to clean out regularly for sure. I may have to invest in one soon.
Great idea on the gasket change video! You might see that pop up in a few months depending on what recipes get in my way first. 😂

@@outdoorindoortexan the dust collector is the key to using a shop vac. It catches most of the ash and keeps the filter from clogging up. I got the idea from watching woodworking videos.

Do you ever clean the lid of your egg...I clean the firebox the same way but recently had a black residue appear on chicken...only on the top...not the area facing down on the grate...never seen it before...no idea where it came from

That’s so weird. You may have put a wood chunk in that had sooty smoke? Or put the chicken on too early and the fire was spitting ash from the fire starter or black smoke? I can’t see how the lid would suddenly drop that black stuff on it. If you find out what caused that, let me know! (Answering your question, no I don’t clean my lid. 12-ish years going strong)
