Great video. The Big Green Egg is an investment and needs to treated as such. Great to see you covered checking the tightness of the hardware on the bands. Some neglect doing this and busted domes have resulted. Take care of your Egg and it will take care of you.

I have a BGE that is 15 years old. I have never done a "clean burn" that many say helps. My egg still has the original gasket. I have no issue maintaining temp. All I do is vacuum occasionally and wire brush the dome a couple times a year. Whatever works for you, don't change.

Great video! One thing you could also mention is to replace the gasket tape from time to time.

I enjoyed the video and found it useful, but audio quality and visual clarity was poor.

I recently bought a used BGE off of Craigslist to see if I like it and go from there. The seller said … and I can see it … that a new gasket had recently been installed.
I would like to do a clean burn to clean the inside. If I put aluminum foil on both edges of the lids, do you think the gasket would survive or disintegrate? Also, is there any way I could clean the fire ring and fire bowl with water and Dawn or anything you would recommend?

Hi Rich, the gasket should be fine without the foil, I have done a cleanup burn at 900˚ F and haven't had any issues. congrats on the Egg and Happy Cooking. Chef Jason

@@patrickglaser1560 how often do you get it into the 600-700 degree range? Maybe a hot burn at 700 for an hour will do it? I will bring mine off from time to time at 700 or so and let’s it get nice and hot for an hour. Then disassemble, scrub with a wire brush and vacuum out

Mark Kachlic hi Mark, I’m in Colorado for this one. I’ll be in LGP July 10-14 with a class on the 12th and bbq demo on the 13th. Stop by and say hi.

So your egg has hardly been used. The interior parts under heavy use require more than just scraping. Also the top air regulator does too.
