As teachers, we are advised to warm up our voice, there are useuful vocal exercises to go on daily. The voice is our most important tool, so, why not taking cate of it?
I loved this! I am from Canada and a little Inuit girl taught me another valuable lesson...facial expressions! After all, what percent is non-verbal in communication? At least 70%! After 15 years( + ) working with individuals with special needs, I can tell you, you can say a great deal with just facial expressions and body language!
Thank you Chris, this video is an eye-opener. I do realise how much I need to work, but I am happy to be on my way Really appreciate your effort in sharing these tips, that help me teach better. God bless you always 😊
echoing (aka mirroring) is a good technique actually. you just show that you are listening to them and understand what they say simply repeating some words from their phrases. It encourages students to tell more.
I agree that it can have a purpose but it can also be overused especially by a teacher who is undertrained, inexperienced, or unsure of themselves as a teacher. With a student who is above the beginner level, it is better to reply normally as you would to a native speaker.
in modern methodology it is a bad thing, if you want to show your students that you are listening to them carefully just show it by asking more to just get along the conversation and above all show it by your gestures that you are listening to them, echoing is time wasting thing
I have been an English teacher for almost 8 years now. I am learning a lot from your videos. It is very informative and helpful. I always finish the video and never skip the ads. While I am watching you with so much focus, I think I am falling inlove. Hehehe! Just kidding! Thank you so much and bless you!
Just got back to teaching and in 2 weeks I am off sick because I have lost my voice with bad laringitis...vocal chords totally strained, too much talking....would you consider making a video about this?? I must say ....this week I have come to understand Mariah Carey
do you have a video of how to talk slow? amazing video, Im planning to moved from game dev to professor of game dev but I talk tooo fast and like a robot if this if that then this many then is really hard
Sometimes I have a very hoarse voice. Not always, but could it disqualify me from teaching? Ironically, I was a vocal coach and choir director for many years.
Hi Thanks for making such amazing and useful videos ! You had a video about eliciting , but I can't find it now in your channel ! I really really really need it ! Where can I find it ? 🥺
I am removing some of my old videos due to sound problems. I’m trying to redo a lot of the older content. I’m shootings a new eliciting video tomorrow and will have it edited shortly after that
I’m autistic. I’m just trying to learn how to speak publicly and not sound like an idiot 🤷♀️😂 Edit: I’m watching a lot of different videos. I’m not a teacher to. 2:44 This part!!!
You are sure in the right job. I am enthused just by watching you and seeing the genuine pleasure you take in being part of a teaching program.
I've been a teacher for about 23 years. I'm fully aware I'm an over-explainer, so I need to really, really work on that. Thanks for the content!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, even veterans of the industry struggle with this. Dang.
