- I'm so proud of Austin building these awesome shelves. Now I have all the room I need to store our quilts and other linens. I hope you will enjoy seeing some of my quilts and blankets and where they come from. As always, thanks for watching and God bless you!

Austin and Matt need to get together and start their own channel showing how to fish, hunt and build things for the home. It will be a hit!!

Matt was so reluctant initially, but he is much more confident on camera now. Austin has always seemed comfortable.😊

He’s a keeper for sure🥰…My husbands a keeper as well…he may not be able to build me shelves but after 28 years he still opens my car door for me …and when we are walking he still moves over to walk closer to the street so there is less of a chance I get hit by a car❤️

I love the quilts that are made from the children's and grandchildren's clothing that they have out grown. These are so special to pass down and treasure. A quilt of childhood memories.

The closet is perfect. I love your doors. The more I see how Austin takes care of you, the more I like him. He's a real find and an excel husband.
My mother-in-law was a quilt maker. She crocheted a throw for each of her many grandchildren with the request that they not be used to cover car seats. She put a lot of work in them and didn't want them to be misused.
Austin did a great job maximizing the closet space. Thanks for sharing this video Corie and Austin.

I’m a quilter so I really enjoyed this video. The quilt Karen made you was absolutely beautiful. That took a lot of time plus the cost of materials that goes into it. A quilt like that deserves the special treatment you are giving it cause really it like a piece of artwork and the purpose of some homemade quilts is for display and they are like heirloom pieces that make us feel loved. Maybe Austin could build you a quilt rack so you could display it. I have several quilt racks in my house. Always keep your first quilt you made it will always be special along with the skirt that your granny helped you with. You did a great job!!! I love the way you value handmade things and realize the love that went into making them! ❤ Thank you for sharing your life and everyday experiences with us!! 🙏❤️🙏 Praying you have a good delivery with no complications for you or sweet baby boy .❤️
Thank you for sharing your blankets and quilts. I am a quilter and love sharing mine. I love seeing other people’s work. When I give someone a quilt, I always want them to use them. I had recently made one for a friend in the nursing home. Then I found out his roommate was admiring it so I sent his roommate one. It is warm right now, but my friend’s wife says the roommate is so proud he has it displayed. Of course, that makes me so glad I sent it to him.

I have been quilting for only about three years and I love it. I tried it many years ago, but I just didn't allow myself enough time. Now, I'm retired and have the time. Still learning....I learn something new with each quilt, I think. I have made quilts for my kids and their spouses, for all of my grandkids, for myself, for other relatives and friends. My sister in law has a long arm, so I don't have to send it off anywhere thankfully. I don't like having unfinished projects. At my age, I don't want to leave anything undone lol. Corie, your quilts are beautiful. I hope someday you are able to make quilts and that you enjoy it as much as I have.

Great job Austin! It makes my heart happy to see you working together to make your house a home. My aunt gave me the last quilt top my granny pieced together and I had it quilted. It is one of my greatest treasures. Corie, I know your delivery date is drawing near and I’m praying for you each day to have a quick easy delivery. Very sweet of Austin building y’all some shelves….and so nice to have. I loved seeing your quilts. My husband told me he’s going to have to move out because there won’t be room for him if I buy more quilts. Like you-I have a combination of quilts, store bought-well, mostly thrift stores or estate sales…the icing on the cake is my hand made quilts. I might need a 12 step program for quilts and bowls(my favorite bowls are butter bowls, cool whip bowls and ones that cotton candy comes in-but have hundreds of all kinds).
The handmade quilts and crocheted are priceless treasures. You have an old soul in a young body-that is a compliment!! Praying for you and little man ❤

This is a wonderful display of handcrafted coverings-the one at 22:34 is amazing and illustrates the skill and love of Crochet. The devotion is poured into a product that wraps you in the warmth of the creator. Beautiful.

It doesn't get any better than sleeping under a quilt. IMO, it's the perfect weight and so cozy and warm. And Austin, you did a great job on those shelves, and you made Corrie happy. We don't get to see your carpentry skills because you're usually at work. I enjoyed watching you get that job done.

I'm a crochet fiend, learned early in my marriage when my sailor husband was deployed; I have made scores of crocheted items for my family and friends, something I love to do.
Corie, you are so sweet and humble I love the way you always tell Austin what a good job he does on your projects I know that makes he proud that you're so happy with the finished product. Austin…I gotta say I’m 66 and have put in wood shelves like that in many closets we’ve moved to over the years. I did the same as you, except I only used 12”-16” pieces to hold up boards. I never thought to just install a whole piece across the closet 🤷♀️. Also I used 12” wide planks to make 24” wide shelves. Never thought to cut wide boards🤷♀️. Your efforts are amazing and you will be a treasure for your family the rest of your life! My husband and I will be married 46 years, and he has made things, fixed things, come alongside many situations over the years which made him a treasure in my marriage also.
I think it’s wonderful that your hubby can do some projects around the house. I think y’all are a perfect match

My grandmother was a quilter. I have 3 quilts that she made me. One is a twin size with kitty faces. It's bright blue and bright yellow. The kitty faces were hand embroidered. One is missing a nose and one is cross eyed, lol, but I wouldn't change a thing. Then she made me a full size Dutch doll pattern quilt. Pretty mauve with some pale blues. The third one is a fan quilt she made me. I bought all of material and she did the whole thing completely by hand. One of my most treasured possessions. I have used it over the years and it needs to be cleaned. Kind of scared to wash it. We found several unfinished quilt tops of hers. My mother kept them. Since my mom passed, they are now mine. Treasures for sure. Love your home. Can't wait to see baby boys nursery. God Bless!
A good way to wash a quilt is to put a sheet in the bathtub under the quilt and add some gentle soapy water. Let it soak for a while, then lift the quilt out with the sheet, so as not to stretch and tear the threads. Squeeze it out gently and return it to the tub with fresh soapy water and the sheet still under it. Do this until very clean and then rinse the same way until no longer soapy. Hope this helps!

Corie, have Austin measure the floor of your linen closet and go to the carpet store and ask if they have any carpet scraps in the size you need, then you can just lay in down on the floor rather than a throw rug which will CONSTANTLY get ruffled up. Good luck! The shelves look fantastic! You have a WONDERFUL husband!

I am a widow…married for almost 59 years to the love of my life. He has been gone for two years…Before I was married my grandmother gave me a hand made quilt…quilted by hand, I might add! It is commonly called a “Friendship Quilt”. It has all the ladies names in our community that participate to embroider their names at a diagonal across a quilt square. The name part was a beautiful shape with colorful material on both sides! I loved it and was very careful with it…my daughter loved it too as well as my son…but…when my daughter married she took the quilt with her…I did not know this. She later told me she had taken it…of course it was okay and she has been married 35 years now and still treasure that quilt!! ❤️❤️❤️

She and dad lived with us their last 20 years of life here on this earth…just last year, I had a few for my girls that means so much to us all…I wrapped them up and gave them two (2) each for Christmas, 2023.
The shelves came out great! I love how he went the extra step to finish off the shelves.
Hi Corie and Austin. Austin did a great job with the shelves. It adds so much more storage. I do have a word of caution though for placing quilts particularly on the wood if it is not sealed in some way and possibly even if it is. I made a beautiful hand quilted quilt for my sister's first baby and when she went to store it away in the closet she laid it on the upper shelf. Eventually, the acids in the wood stained the quilt permanently. She was very sad about that and so was I. But we learned a valuable lesson. I would advise laying several folds of an old sheet or cloth of some sort on the shelf before placing any quilts on it. I hope this information helps. Sure am excited for that baby boy to arrive.

Great job Austin. You put the shelves far enough apart to have plenty of room for several big quilts on each shelf. Corie Granny has made you so many pretty crocheted items I don't know which I like best. Love the colors in the quilt you made and love you had the Quilt made for your momma. Y'alls new home just keeps on getting homier as Austin and Matt add their touch to what already had Pap's and I'm sure Steve's hands put their family touches already.

I have a quilt that a friend made & surprised me with 10+ years ago. I keep it on my bed year round, except summer. Like you, I like heavy blankets. I also prefer a cold room. I sleep with the window open and just add more blankets! Tell Austin that imperfections in handmade items are a sign of love! I crochet also, and there is usually a "sign of love" in everything I make! God bless you guys, I look forward to hearing the news of the birth of your healthy baby boy!

My gma decided she needed to make a quilt for each of her grandkids. I worked at a shop that carried fabric so she came in one day and let me choose all the fabrics I wanted. Then she had me pick them out for my cousin, the next oldest since he lived so far away. She got my quilt finished and got my cousins cut and pieced when dementia came on full force and she could no longer quilt. I have a friend who quilts and I was able to have her finish and tie offmy cousin's quilt. Every time I use my quilt, I'm honored that I have it.
I own two others, both handmade and gifted, and I completely understand they all truly are a gift. Same with the afghans I've been gifted.

My grandpa built our house and that yellow pine he used is hard as rocks and tough to drill...he built shelves like that and I wanted to add a couple more, almost broke our drill. Love your afghans!
