- I started my quilting journey late in life. I’ve experimented and made lots of mistakes and I love everything that I’ve made so far. Quilts are a great way to RE-USE and UP-CYCLE unwanted clothing and materials into something cozy, useful and comforting. I’ve embraced quilting with NO RULES and view myself as a REBEL BEGINNER! I hope my video inspires you to try up-cycling or quilting. Thanks for watching!
That's my mom!! I'm your biggest fan!!
Thank-you sweetheart!
Oh my goodness those quilts are beautiful I would be proud to have done such a good job especially on your first few thank you so much for sharing your talent with us you do beautiful work❣️🧵🪡✂️
Thank-you so much for your kind comment on my work - its very encouraging for me :)
In 30 years I've never made a PERFECT quilt. :)
That is so encouraging, I really appreciate your comment. Thank-you.
I am amazed. You are fearless! You use any fabric and you finish them with hand quilting: I will only use American quilting fabric or Bali batiks. I send my quilts away for professional quilting. You have inspired me! I will definitely try using thrifted fabrics and I will continue to watch your channel.
Thank you so much Pamela! One thing about quilting with thrifted or discarded stuff is that its very low risk on the money side :). I hope you do try it- its very slow going but fun too.
It is just as warm…perfection and isn’t nearly as cozy….the story is priceless ❤
Thank-you so much! I really appreciate your kind comment.
Lovely quilts! Your hand quilting is awesome!
Wow! Thanks for your comment and the lovely compliment!
I’m new to your channel and after watching a few of your videos, I must say that I love your creativity and esthetic
Thanks so much!
I LOVE the quilts you've made - Pretty impressive t-shirt quilt. Love the pillow stuffing and the flannel sheet backing :) I think you're hard on yourself, lol. You have really accomplished a lot. I'm a beginning quilter and I'm inspired by your thriftiing and creativity.
thank-you so much for your comment and for being so kind! I think every person who crafts/sews does creative stuff is their own worst critic 😃
Beautiful quilts from the heart. Good luck on your journey.
Hand quilting is lovely and time consuming but so worth it. I did a grandmothers fam by hand and my daughter loves it. I doing a hexagon 1 inch (work in progress) and wondering what I was thinking at the time of starting.
Subscribed.
Thanks for your comment Tessie - I couldn't agree more. I am working on a 1.5 inch square EPP - its VERY SLOW GOING :) I wish you smooth sewing on your hexagons!
Dara, would you please consider making a video of how you trace the quilting pattern? You are REAL and I love that you share what works and what doesn't. There is love in your projects; perfection doesn't even come close to that! (hope that came out the way I intend it! 😄 ~Kelly
Hi Kelly, thanks for your comment - I have a quilt in the works and I will show the quilt pattern tracing - hopefully soon - its been giving me trouble
all of them are beautiful!
Thank-you!
From one homebody to another, thanks for the inspiration, you truly are delightful!
Thank-you so much! I very much appreciate your taking the time to comment and your kind words.
Love all of the hand quilting, just beautiful.
Thank-you so much for your comment!
Much better not checkered❣️
Thank-you!
I am very impressed with the quilts you made and hand quilted is awesome! I haven't attempted hand quilting yet, but want to try. Thanks so much for sharing your work! I'm somewhat of a beginner too, and haven't done anything too complicated....yet. My grandmother left many of her hand stitched star blocks, nine patch blocks, etc., that I'm finishing -just wish I could ask her all the questions about how she would have finished the quilts. I do like hand tying quilts, but have a special long arm quilter who has finished five for me so far. Onward...
It’s so special to have hand made items left behind for us from previous generations. I wish you smooth sewing as you finish your grandmother’s quilts. Thanks so much for your kind comments and for sharing your experience.
Thank you for sharing this quilts, was very helpful and inspiring,. I'm starting to do quilting.
Thanks so much! I wish you the very best on your start - we all go at our own pace so keep going 🪡😃
Good for you. No one has ever refused the gift of a quilt because it wasn't perfect😊
Thanks so much for your kind comment!
These quilts are lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Thank-you!
Nothing is perfect! You have made such great strides in such a short time. What a wonderful timeline, and repurposing of different materials. Very encouraging to everyone at all levels! Keep those videos coming, and be kind to yourself. Like they say, every project is worth finishing. 😊
Thanks so much for the kind encouragement Wendy! and thanks for thaking the time to comment.
I adore the t-shirt quilt with the flannel backing. I save old pillow stuffing as well, but I never thought to use it in a quilt the way that you did. You have very inspiring thrifting examples. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks so much! stay tuned I'm planning another T-shirt quilt this fall 😃
Did you use Kids Crayola for marking? Smart
I sure do! It washes out no problem!
Binding is my bugaboo. Rarely get a great binding done.
Thanks for sharing that - I find it tricky too!
They look better than the first ones I made .
Thank-you but I'm sure your first ones are beautiful and loved!
I love your kind of quilts!
Thanks so much!
WOWSEAR your crazy quilt is heirloom quality. So beautiful ....what a creation.
Wow that is so nice of you to say! Thank-you so much and I did have a great time making that crazy quilt.
Hand quilted!! I am thrilled because this is my joy. You are amazing to push on toward the next quilt. Kudos!!!!!
@user-kc8wk5jj8v Thank-you so much!
Wow! I love that you just went with your ideas and created beautiful, treasured and imperfect quilts! So much emphasis is on perfection which can steal the fun and joy out of quilt making. Lovely quilts and hand quilting. My very first quilt was hand tied and quite imperfect!
Thanks so much for commenting and for your kind words. I agree with you on the fun-stealing part. I dreamt of making a quilt for years but found it so intimidating that I only admired other quilters beautiful work. By using free stuff I was able to let go and just go for it.
Awesome job!!!
Thanks so much!
Very pretty quilts
Thank-you so much!

Thank you for sharing with us and yes it can still be loved and appreciated. Who says it must be perfect??!!!🥰
I’ve sewn and crafted my whole life and recently enjoyed the pool of quilting I’ve dove into!!! So far 3 complete all my own ideas and patterns for each person.
1st two were tied and the 3rd was raggedy.
Anyway keep on sharing, encouraging and teaching us!!!
❤️😀
Thank-you so much for your comment and for sharing some of your own experience - well done to you too and keep going!
Thank you!!
Thank-you back!
Thank you for sharing all your lovely quilts with us. I'm going to pull out my older flannel sheets and start using them for backing as yours look so soft.
Thank-you so much! Its true - I do love flannel - especially here in Canada, we need us some cozy comfort during the long winter months :)
Wonderful! thank you

@deenagraham5488 Thank-you so much for your kind comment!
I watch Crazy Rebecca, too!!!
Love her work!
Beautiful quilts! Question on how you assembled and then quilted each square. Could you please explain your process? I would like to try making this type of quilt 😃
Hi Paula, so for the crazy quilt you can visit the channel "Crazy Rebecca" - she has some tutorials on how to make one - that's how I learned how to make mine. For the shirt quilt - try searching the "Rail Fence Block" and you will get several tutorials. I have a demo on how I hand quilt in the first video I posted if you want to check that out. I'm planning to make another T-shirt quilt this winter so I will post that in the future. Hope this helps & thanks for your question.
@@DelightfullyDara I really was curious about the t-shirt quilt. After watching your video; I cut up one of my husband’s t-shirts last night into 5” squares; then cut a 5” square of batting and hand quilted the fabric and batting together, but I don’t think that’s how you did it🤔. Did you make like a little pillow of 3 layers? I thought your quilt just looked so comfortable and my husband has a zillion t-shirts🤣🤣🤣. I would really appreciate your help🙃
@@paulahughins7510 Hi Paula: so if you can hang in there, I'm thinking to make another quilt like that one this fall and I will make a video of it. If you are eager to get going, I'll try to explain it here: I assembled/sewed all the squares into the quilt top and then laid the top onto the flannel sheet. then I rolled these 2 together like a swill roll cake. Then I laid that roll onto my table - its 2 tables pushed together so the whole queen size fit across without falling. One row at a time, I used pillow stuffing and made little mini pillows in each square. Then I sewed those big stitches of quilting with sock yarn. I did that sewing pattern to get it in a single go and knotted off the yarn after each square. I went row by row like that. It took me about 3 weeks of working on it most evenings. At the end, I used the self-binding method & bound it with the backing sheet. Wishing you great quilting vibes if you give it a try!
I’m eagerly awaiting your tutorial on how to make this quilt!!! I will cut up my t-shirts in the meantime and get them sewn together. Thank you sew much for explaining your process 😘
