      Hi. Like your video.
By the way, the country that eats the most dogs per capita is Vietnam. 2nd is South Korea.
And yet, no-one talks about them!
As you say, dog eating simply *ISN'T* common in China. And yet, it's China that people think about when talking about dog eating!!

Green technologies as a result of collaborations with other industrial nations and indigenous R&D, and the 4th industrial revolution should be credited.
Mainland China understandably was a relative latecomer in the industrialization age as the first of its 5-year economic plan series came to practice since the 1950s against the backdrop of the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union.
And the very same Soviet Union and the rest of the Eastern bloc were instrumental in Chinese industrialization efforts, plus the friendly Western states led by Switzerland, the Nordics (Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland) and, since 1962, France.

Professor Zhang Weiwei said that governments should be classified according to whether they are good or bad, that is, whether their purpose is beneficial to the majority of people in the country; they cannot be classified according to their form, such as whether they have elections or not, or whether they are democratic or not.
The ultimate goal of government management should be to make everyone in the country live comfortably. But in most current election governments, the people in power are only thinking about how to win the next election, and have no long-term plan for whether it is beneficial to the people. When there were more resources, the party who win the election can balance the benefit. But now that there are fewer resources and the country is highly competitive, election governments that only have slogans but cannot implement them, because they have no long-term plan and only consider the interests of their own party, the whole country has begun to have various problems.

Just compare that to UK whose healthcare system is dysfunctional. I am not from UK but yesterday I watched a video of the on going election campaign in which voters asked shadow health ministers from different parties questions that concerned them about health services. A man who appeared to be in his late 50s narrated how his 88 year old mother had to wait for an ambulance for 9 hours after she fell down and injured herself. Other voters talked about how they had to wait for a year to see a general Dr or a specialist. That to me is a healthcare system that has collapsed.

Over producing low quality goods is too easy, that's why the market is even able to stay alive. You can't expect them to last long and they'll cut corners as usual and you'll have cables that cannot run the required power output through them, which can cause a short and basically kill the damn device rendering it useless. Details like this is very important and it's lost on people who know very little to nothing about tech, they just see numbers and assume everything's all good because a lot of goods are produced. Quantity does not = Quality Over production isn't always a good thing because that is a lot of power used and if you have too much inventory left over now it's a waste and if you can't sell those goods your company is in trouble. There's so many nuances to this subject that is not given it's proper respect and we are pretending it's a virtue to produce a bunch of useless products. Until China or any country for that matter build a green truly green energy source, this whole discussion on the matter is a joke. if transporting solar panels is used by gas powered vehicles it is not truly green it still harms the enviornment, if the cars are electric and they run on Lithium Ion Batteries the cars are not truly green because the vehicles that harvest the lithum is not only running on oil but destroying the enviornment, it is not green. What is so difficult to understand about this subject? A smart Kid like you should be albe to figure it out but we keep playing these games of pretend as if solar panels do not harm the enviornment, their whole manufacturing process is harming the envniornment added to the fact China is still building power plants because their power keeps going out which is also having high impact on the enviornment.

Here in Canada, my GP ordered an MRI of my head in December 2022. We never ever heard back from the hospital (one of the region's largest) although he sent in his request once again in 2023. He finally cancelled the whole thing a couple of months ago, 16 months after he'd made his initial request. Fortunately, my chronic headaches had to do with a very rare immunological problem and not a brain cancer, but the hospital has no means of knowing that. And since we don't keep track of such data, we have no idea how many people, who may have been helped if seen in time, have died from various cancers and other serious illnesses in my part of Ontario alone.

I understand that the focus of this video is to dispel people's misconceptions about China, but I believe it's more important to start from the facts.
Chinese people do eat dog meat, and this is true both historically and in modern times. Many regions, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, West Africa, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas, have had histories of consuming dog meat. In East Asia and Southeast Asia, it is still commonly practiced today. While it's not a mainstream dietary culture, it is also not so rare as to be invisible. I personally enjoy eating dog meat. If you haven't seen it, it might be because your background and social circle have limited your exposure to this aspect.
Recently, the consumption of dog meat has decreased, mainly due to the influence of Western pet culture, which has led to a lot of opposition. However, it is far from rare.
I love eating meat, and I also love pets. Traditional Chinese views do not see these two things as conflicting. Just as chickens, ducks, pigs, and fish are mainstream meat animals, many people still keep them as pets. Pigs are also highly intelligent animals, but they do not conform to human living habits like dogs. Should we ban others from eating duck meat just because call ducks have become more popular as pets?
Moreover, the history of Chinese people eating dog meat spans thousands of years, long before the popularity of modern pet dog culture. The supply chain for meat dogs is no different from that for other livestock, and it does not involve cruelty or the spread of diseases. Modern pet dog culture, due to breeding practices, involves much more cruelty.
This is not a matter of principle but rather a cultural conflict. There is an old Chinese saying, "君子远庖厨[A gentleman stays away from the kitchen]," which encourages people with excessive compassion to avoid interfering with slaughter and kitchen affairs and instead use their moral qualities to focus on human development. I think the key lies in respect and understanding.

If the west treat dogs as close relatives we respect that and do not consider it as a demise of human dignity since in our cultural dogs are just another livestock, no different than pigs.
I don't find dog meat particularly tasty but I see no reason why pet animal should have superior right than other animals. That is I can't eat certain meat because someone has an affection on their kind. It's a violation of my freedom.
As a Chinese, I'd say it is racism to judge other culture's freedom of eating by one's own tradition.

I appreciate having a positive perspective on China, as the negative aspects are surely exaggerated and overemphasized in the West. I also think the videos are well structured and pleasant and interesting to watch.
However, the perspectives feel soo positive and sort of one-sided to me that I can't help but feel that this is also propaganda or at least very biased, and therefore I feel like I have to be skeptical of your perspectives.
One thing that made me feel skeptical is what you said about surveillance cameras, I'd say the reason surveillance is something people in the in the west see critically is because it puts power into the hands of the government to micromanage our behaviour, which they might abuse, and also because privacy is seen as a "human right" in the west.
The sentiment of "I'm not a criminal so why would I worry about it" which you talked about in the video really kind of missed the point of why people are worried about surveillance in the west.
Also, in the video you said that China is presented as a surveillance state because of their survellance cameras while the UK is not critized in the same way even though it has higher concentration of surveillance cameras. Personally, (as a German) I've heard a lot of criticism about the surveillance cameras in the UK than the ones in China. So I wonder why you seem to have such a different impression.
However one argument I could see for accepting surveillance cameras in China is that the worries that westerners have about surveillance are largely based on mistrust of the government not to abuse their power and on privacy being seen as a "fundamental human right". If the Chinese people don't see it as a "fundamental human right" and if they have trust that the government is and will stay benevolent no matter how much power they have, then it makes sense that they are not concerned about surveillance in the same way westerners might be.

This does NOT mean the US is known for eating animals that most of the world would find astonishing. For you to say that "some cities in China still eat dogs" implies that everyone in those cities do it. Don't spread mis-information by generalizing the population of cities or entire countries. This is absolutely NOT true. There may be less than 1% in a place where it is even allowed at all. Western countries are excellent at negative propaganda against China, much of it is mis-information to ignorant western citizens who believe it. Go to China yourself. In fact, it is quite speechless. Foreign media always distort and slander China in various ways. I was in China. Unfortunately, I got a lung infection last year. I didn’t plan to go to the hospital and relied on my own immunity to eliminate the inflammation. It was not because I was worried about the hospital fees, but I hoped that my own immunity would become stronger.
Then I couldn’t stand the cough for 2 months. I was afraid that there would be too many people, so I made an appointment at Futian District People’s Hospital one day in advance. The next morning, I took my social security card and ID card to the hospital, queued for half an hour to get a number to see the doctor, and then went to take a lung X-ray. After waiting for about an hour and a half, I got my lung X-ray. After the doctor looked at it, he diagnosed me with chronic bronchitis according to my condition and prescribed some drugs for treating bronchial and asthma and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Then I left the hospital. After using the drugs, my condition stabilized and there was no recurrence. This is the efficiency of Chinese hospitals. The total cost of using the social security card was only about 100 CNY (14-15 USD)
Then last month, I still felt a little uncomfortable because of smoking, so I went to a regular pharmacy on the street (not a hospital) to buy the same medicine, and the cost was as high as 200+CNY... Here is a suggestion for everyone: quit smoking as soon as possible - -

But in the USA you need to make an appointment two to three months ahead. Compare the cost of medicine and medicare, The USA is 15 to 30 times higher than the Twaiwn. I am from Taiwan and live in the US. I work in healthcare in the US and disagree with you about Taiwan being better than US. Taiwan is better for non serious diseases but really poor for serious diseases. For example, checkpoint inhibitors and other immuno-oncology drugs are game changers in cancer treatment and saved lives of people with late stage cancers. However, they are expensive and costs $125k-$250k per treatment. In a clinical trial, CAR-T therapy cured heme cancers on about 96% of children. Taiwan waited years before purchasing one of the most important cancer treatments. There are many drugs that are expensive and can save lives but Taiwanese government won't buy them, and as a result, people are dying from serious diseases where there are already treatments. And no, you don't have to wait months to see your doctor. Usually, it's a week to a month long process in the US, but for an emergency, you can go to any hospital. Finally, yes, US healthcare is expensive but most people have health insurance, which is about $12k a year. For people who are under 65 years, there is a cap on the maximum you can pay for health insurance. Most horror stories are from people who don't have health insurance.

    • @ching-yi2007
      @ching-yi2007 3 місяці тому

@@ChinaSongsCollection Yes, healthcare insurance is expensive because the average working person spends about $1,000 per month, so the insurance company has to priced it above $1,000. This does not include the fact that there are deductibles, co-pays and up to $9,450 a year (legally this number changes every year) you can still pay despite paying $1,000 per month. However, if you work for a company of a certain size and work full-time, the company is required to pay half of your commercial insurance, so you are actually paying $500 per month. If you are self-employed and make below a certain income, the state government can subsidize your healthcare plan on Marketplace. If you are indigent and have no money, the local government has Medicaid, which pays 100% of your insurance. If you are 65 and older, you can get Medicare, which is subsidized by the government. Medical care is expensive but if you have a serious illness, US is the best place for serious illness.

I am a local Chinese in Hong Kong. My view:
    Healthcare - Harvey is right
Pollution - in Shenzhen, I suspect 99% cars on the road are electric, so the air feels clean even on a busy 8 lane road.
Eating dogs - yes, this is very very rare nowadays cos other more tastier meat are in abundance and cheap. Actually not all dogs are edible, we belief, only a certain breed is, its pure black in color. Maybe one can still try it, but only in very very rural remote village, for fun only. I think dog meat is more common in Korea than China, though they just recently passed a bill to ban it.
Cleanliness - Harvey is correct. But one point he misses perhaps is public toilet, which not a lot of foreigners can get used to, especially women, cos a lot of toilets are the sqatting type. In ladies toilet, you may find ⅔ of the toilet are squat ones and only ⅓ or none are the normal 'chair' type.

In New Zealand, due to the shortage of public medical resources, it takes a long time to get a general physical examination. My daughter had abdominal pain, and after the GP check-up, it took a month to make an appointment for a B-ultrasound. In Shanghai, in a similar situation, my daughter also had abdominal pain, so we took her directly to a tertiary hospital near our home. It only took 4 hours from registration, doctor's examination, B-ultrasound examination, to communicating with the doctor about the implementation plan.

In traditional Chinese concepts, dogs are regarded as livestock similar in status to pigs, cows, and sheep, rather than pets. Therefore, eating dog meat is accepted by everyone just like eating beef or pork. However, despite this, eating dog meat is not common in modern society, mainly because after entering the industrialized society, dogs have transformed from tools for guarding homes to companion animals. At present, in the Korean ethnic group in the Northeast, as well as in Guangxi Yulin and other regions, there is still a custom of eating dog meat, which is a local traditional custom. In other areas, it is very rare.
Considering that China is a vast country with a geographical area(Russia not included) and population that surpasses the entirety of Europe, it is not surprising that some places retain unique customs.

Yes. Nearly 75% of Yulin residents eat dog and cats, and nearly a dozen other provinces consume dogs as well. The estimate is 10 million dogs and 4 million cats every year are eaten in China. Because the young man personally didn’t see it happen doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. Bamboo rats are also a delicacy. (Personally, I don’t care what they eat but it seems very dishonest to pretend that Chinese people don’t eat these meats at all)And there is even an annual dog meat festival in Yulin. The fact that your comment is true but only got two likes tells me that most people run away from facts and reality whenever they get the chance.

That’s interesting! As I said, it’s a misconception that Chinese people on the whole generally eat dog meat. As I have gathered from replies, it happens around the country to an extent - but to put it into context, 800million chickens are consumed in Guangdong annually, just one province.
I’m not denying it happens, just refuting the idea that it’s widespread practice!

@@Harveyinchina Eating dog meat is pretty common in South Korea too but you don't hear westerners complaining about it. There are thousands of restaurants in Korea selling dog meat. it was only recently that the Korean government passed a law to ban dog meat from 2027.

So paying privately for healthcare in China, you get good healthcare. This happens in many countries - Malaysia, Mexico, Jordan etc. It is not specific to China. What happens at a free government hospital? Does it exist? How is the service? Then compare that go the NHS.
China is the world's largest importer of contraband animal parts smuggled into the country for traditional medicine. Elephant tusks, pangolins, bear and tiger parts etc. Whether they still eat dogs and cats - there are serious problems with regard to animals.
China is a surveillance state. By definition, this practice intrudes into the privacy of people being surveilled whether you 'feel' it or not. Your position is like someone who is routinely spied in their home on by voyeurs but you are unaware of it.
Pollution has declined in China but Chinese cities are well represented in the 100 most polluted cities on the planet.
China is not as bad as the western establishment likes to portray but nor is it as positive for the average Chinese as many youtubers like to show. In 2023 there was a record number of Chinese trying to enter the US through the Mexican border claiming asylum. Young people in China are increasingly 'lying flat'. Why? It's not all roses. But undoubtedly they do a lot of things better than western clubtries.

      1. Hospitals in China are subsidised by the government, for the people. The only experiences of hospitals I have had in China are these public hospitals. The NHS ISNT free - it’s paid for with 40% of UK tax money. Tax money in China subsides healthcare, gives people MRI scans and next day appointments with doctors for ¥30 but ALSO builds fantastic cross country bulletin train networks, airports in every city, public transportation and funds many other things.
      2. Is that per capita? Because 1.4bn people will import a lot of stuff, of course.
      3. Yes, theres a lot of surveillance in China, I think it’s great, it helps to prevent bad stuff happening to people. I can leave my house unlocked and my bicycle on the street. I can leave my laptop unattended in a cafe whilst I go to the toilet. It might be a trade off in return for having a little less privacy in public, but for someone not committing any crimes, it a a trade off I’m willing to have. But how am I being spied upon in my home, in the absence of cameras?
      4. Are they? I’ll take your word for that, but you’re not operating on a high level of understanding here. The world outsources their production to China. China is the world’s factory. Factories emit pollution. Therefore, the world is outsourcing their pollution to China. China is leading the world in renewables.
      Just my 2 cents
