One of the many features I love about the Sony handhelds, is local ad hoc co-op/versus gaming. This is one aspect of handheld gaming I hope to see developed by third-party device designers and manufacturers, such as GBZMODS. Only until they hack the switch wide open, it's essentially a Nvidia shield with a extra 1gb of RAM. DS,psp, dreamcast, ps2, GameCube and technically Wii are possible
Billy-wayne Jeffcoat idk about ps2, that has been struggling to get emulated for a very long time , even n64 , I’m hoping the hacking community can make it happen tho
The Digi Retroboy is impossible to get in America. The closest I ever got was through Amazon UK, and they wouldn't ship to America. It's kinda annoying. XD
The 3DS XL, PSP and PS VITA are official handhelds that can be modded and are absolutely superb if you take the time to research the process. Totally breathes new life into your devices.
In surprised the GPDXD or the powkiddy android device didn’t make your list. I know you have some gripes with Android and it being updated, but it doesn’t affect speed. I got a GPDXD, and the form factor is perfect. I live in Hk and I buy these emulation machines in the markets for cheap, but they play games poorly. I don’t have the same issue with my GPDX until I get up to PSP, Dreamcast or PlayStation, but a lot of them still work great!
The RS-97 (60hz) is a really good console too. Once you flash the CFW you can put on some great emulators including Playstation One and it plays even some of those games really well. I picked up one for $35.00 and have had a blast.
Great list and all but I'll still say that the GPD XD+ is the ultimate retro portable console, it does has android 8.0 which isn't that old and there's hope for android 9.0 for it.
@Sho Razorblade hes right GPD XD+ is king, look up the specs and compare it to anything else. from number of buttons, to CPU, it crushes everything else. Theres even custom roms for it. alot of these other portable emulating consoles struggle with PS1 and N64. the XD+ has some gamecube games that are playable.
what do you mean the installation is hard for the retrostone, doesn't it use some kind of emulationstation, retropi or something? there are tons of tutorials and it's not that hard? or maybe this one has some specifics to it?
Maybe it is, but the definition of a handheld system is not only it's raw power, but things like battery life, form factor and reasonable/effective use of CPUs/GPUs that don't need a Kraftwerk in your Pocket.
Im very confused how can it play gameboy advance but not gameboy color also does it just play gba games or can it play snes atari and other emulators that have the same controller configuration? Im talking about the number 1 handheld ofcourse
Hey mr salt, have you recently moved to the states? It's crazy because I have a friend that grew up in Tijuana and after a few years he started to have an American accent but only with a couple of words is vocab that stuck out. It was crazy hard to pick up on but when you know somebody you notice those things. Am I wrong?
I will never understand why people support these devices, its very easy to hack/mod a 3DS or PSVita and they are both far superior handhelds, the only way I will ever replace my 3DS and Vita is if a newer handheld comes out that can emulate PS2 or better. I've seen some new devices that emulate PS2 with very poor framerate, but for now I will continue enjoying my Vita for its ability to stream from my PS4! not even the Switch is that much better than the Vita IMO except for a few select games. On top of having a modded 3DS and Vita, I also have a modded WiiU which can emulate Gamecube games, so when I see people talk about these "retro" handhelds I laugh and say what a waste of money since they have much lower quality display screens compared to the Vita or Switch. Official hardware is always the best!
@@RetroDodoI got my n2dsxl for $160 bran new in 2017, and my psvita for $140 like new last year, Im sure they can be found for cheaper, I just don't get why somebody wouldn't save up an extra $60-70 for a far superior handheld, plus modding a vita or ds is super easy
15:00 - it's cool that it emulates PSX and N64 perfectly, but why in the hell would I want something so huge and heavy?! Thanks for the advice, we'll be sure to do that next time! :)
@@RetroDodo Thank you for actually taking feedbacks and reading people's comments, really like your stuff
A hacked PS Vita is the best retro handheld (psp,ps1,gb,gba,nes,snes,Mame,neogeo,sega,atari....) All works smoothly, and you can get one for 100$
Only until they hack the switch wide open, it's essentially a Nvidia shield with a extra 1gb of RAM. DS,psp, dreamcast, ps2, GameCube and technically Wii are possible
@@billy-waynejeffcoat4828 of course , the Switch is more powerful than the Vita
Billy-wayne Jeffcoat idk about ps2, that has been struggling to get emulated for a very long time , even n64 , I’m hoping the hacking community can make it happen tho
You know one day in like 2050 Pokémon swsh would be considered a classic technically so then it’ll be on these systems
Si the winner is an inferior version of the revo K101+?
Honestly i'd buy it if it wasn't so expensive
Can the number 1 spot play ROMS or just GBA cartridges?
The Digi Retroboy is impossible to get in America. The closest I ever got was through Amazon UK, and they wouldn't ship to America. It's kinda annoying. XD
The 3DS XL, PSP and PS VITA are official handhelds that can be modded and are absolutely superb if you take the time to research the process. Totally breathes new life into your devices.
*_This channel reminds me of Brandon Salts review. Even the guy look and sounds like him._*
;)
Lol
Content starts at 2:30
How do you get the DIGI Retroyboy in the US tho?
R.i.p the salt now he's gone to sugar
What do you mean
In the beginning of the video he was drinking a soda
Oh I get it now
XD hahah
Stop acting like your the grammatical king, shitHead
song also great vid
I picked up one for $35.00 and have had a blast.
how about the Gameboy 1UP XL? please have a review on it. planning on buying one.
15:52 What Retropie image are you using? Looks absolutely stunning.
Have you tried revo k101 plus? Where does it stand?
I don't understand something: DigiRetroboy plays GBA games only? Or can it emulate other systems as well?
Thanks for this great vid. You helped me make my mind. I was considering buying PocketGo, but now i decided to go with LDK Horizontal.
Great choice!
sir you just sold 2 LDK Horizontals into my household. Tyvm. I look forward to their arrival!
you made retro stone to the list instead of the gpi case?
Could you do a separate video on the Digiretroboy telling how to download games to it?
I remeber when his channel was BRANDON SALT
what do you mean the installation is hard for the retrostone, doesn't it use some kind of emulationstation, retropi or something? there are tons of tutorials and it's not that hard? or maybe this one has some specifics to it?
1 up are the best intill now please answer i want to buy it but i dont no
have you tried the Pocket Go custom firmware?
No GDP Win 2? It’s the only handheld I know of that plays PSP and PS 2. Also the highest quality d-pad and rockers I’ve ever seen on a handheld.
What about all the gpd's?
Which software are you running on the 1up?
Does the 1up XL come pre installed with all the roms you mentioned??
I was thinking about picking up a Pocket Go or a LDK. Now I know that I have to pick the LDK
It's slightly better than the Pocket Go. :)
i want one what looks like an original gameboy but NOT for dwarf hands....
what is wrong with the originale gameboy (not pocket) size?^^
Hey mr salt, have you recently moved to the states? It's crazy because I have a friend that grew up in Tijuana and after a few years he started to have an American accent but only with a couple of words is vocab that stuck out. It was crazy hard to pick up on but when you know somebody you notice those things. Am I wrong?
So, would you consider the GPD XD+ one of the ones you should stay away from, as it's android-based?
The gpd XD+ is definitely worth it. Check out videos from the phawx and eta prime for more information on the device.
Hey man. Great video!
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Anbernic RG 350. It's getting quite a bit of media coverage these days
A lot of people don’t know how to hack a Vita, plus, most of these handhelds are cheaper than a Vita.
I could say the same for phones, it's much easier to emulate with android and a controller.
I really liked the bittboy as a really cheap way to emulate NES and GB stuff.
Despite it being the kind of android thing you warned about at the beginning, I'm surprised to not see the GPD XD on the list.
did it come out in 2019?
15:00 - it's cool that it emulates PSX and N64 perfectly, but why in the hell would I want something so huge and heavy?! I mean okay bigger screen, but that thing is a bigger blocky brick than the original gameboy. Looks like a pain to lug around...I just find it weird that you say _"it's heavy, it's big, it's a beast"_ like that's a good thing. I mean you take that thing _on the go?!_ In what, a whole separate backpack for it?
Good video but Im really surprised the RetroFlag GPI isnt on here. Its easily one of the best retro systems out there in my opinion.
