      @@bethamon5483 changing fonts on descriptions is tricky because I've found (and been warned) that my template description on PC/Laptop is not compatible with formatting on phone app. So...if you sell similar and want to go into and edit it will tell you format not supported and text/details will be deleted.

      Nope, didn't know about it. One would think they would have made an announcement about that, right?
      eBay always giving you more work to do that doesn't earn you money and for no real benefit to anyone.
      Cleaned properly? Isn't that subjective? And to eBay standards? Now you're reaching...what standards? 🙄

  • @zolatrascher2162

    IF YOU CROSSLIST…I would suggest NOT using “per eBay standards” in the disclaimer. Use “per manufacturer’s standards/instructions”. Mercari and Poshmark don’t really like the word “eBay” in their listings.

    As someone who sells used suit jackets, It would be impossible for me as an individual seller to get the hundreds of suits I have dry cleaned properly, it would cost a small fortune. I have always sold my suits as is, and list if anything on it looks stained. If someone feels the need to dry clean the suit before wear, which I reccomend as I dont know its history, they can do it, but for me, its just not economically feasable to do so with all of my suits.

      Goodwill stores don't clean anything you can see items with food and other debris on them. They not putting up signs declaring items properly cleaned now are they?? Yard sales and other places like peddlers mall don't either.
      eBay is just covering their own butts. You get a ton of add more item specific notice, like what's the character for a pair of shorts. Come on just more work for a $4 item that takes an hour to photograph then list everything under the sun time it's all done you're working for NOTHING because time sourcing, washing at the laundry mat, photograph, listing and waiting for something to sell, sending offers. You're spent hours on a $4 item they will add fees to, make you wait to get paid and then hopefully a fickled buyer doesn't use your item on vacation then decide to return it once they used and abused it and now wants a refund.
      eBay is a losing game.

      Almost all clothes I buy have been laundered before I buy them. I mostly buy clothes at yard & estate sales and very picky about condition and even smells like fabric softener since I don't sell many clothes. If I feel it needs it, I have steamed them.

    Thanks Casey! #1 Personally, I wash everything, and I use Tide. So I have already been putting that in the list, in BOLD TYPE. Some people are sensitive to some fragrances, so I have been doing this for years.
    #2. Strangely Vintage USED underwear, such as panties can be sold. And as a footnote, they go for crazy money (I’ve seen some sell for over 400.00 for a pair of silky granny panties). Usually in the larger sizes, Vanity Fair specifically.

    I’ve never had a statement concerning cleaning. I used to wash everything but stopped when our area became drought ridden about 12 years ago. If an item has a stain or weird smell, it gets cleaned, but otherwise, the item gets steamed only. I don’t buy items that are nasty either and they are usually clean when I get them(folks in small towns generally bring clean items to the thrift store because everyone knows everyone and they don’t want the gossip headache).

    This is what i put in my listings----This shirt has not been washed and was in a storage locker for about 15 years. There might be a musty smell. We have aired the shirt out. We did not wash it because one, we didn't want to ruin any pictures or fade any colors and two, the laundry soap we use might cause an allergic reaction for some people so we thought it would be best to leave it to the buyer to wash it and air it out. We have checked all the elastic in this shirt.

This revision, it seems to me anyway, more specifically requires that you be the one to clean the items. Whereas before you could buy a clean item from someone else and let it rip. How the heck does this apply to suits, sport coats and ties? Or does it apply to accessories?

Here's another tip to sellers to avoid complaints: After washing, do not hang clothes up in an area where the clothes can absorb smoke from cooking or other substances. Do not hang clothes up near litter boxes. Also make sure clothes are 100% dry before packing into plastic bag or they can mold. No brainers, but even something clean can get smells after they're washed. 😮

    I have always added my own cleaning statement in the condition area. Depending on the item, here are some of the descriptions I use; : "Item has been laundered as per platform standards." "Item has been recently dry cleaned"...... "Item has been hand washed and dried flat/ hung and air dried as cleaning tag instructions." ..... " Item has been laundered with Dryell dry cleaning home system" "Item has been cleaned and pre-treated for staining. Some staining has remained" For new with tags that are still in plastic bags, I do nothing, but if they have tags but not in plastic, I clip the tag to the fabric and air dry (no heat) to remove any dust. I use a plastic laundry clip and attach to the tag, so it doesn't get beat up from flopping around in the dryer which can bend the tag. Way more time, way less worry when I send an item out. If I use the more standard wording instead of being so specific, then this will be a time saver for me for sure.

    I was trying to update & relist a pair of capri pants about a month ago probably & when I went to hit list it gave me an error about underwear not being allowed, which was SO WEIRD bc It was pants! I called EB for help bc it kept doing it & wouldn't let me list this item that had already been listed previously. I also already had "cleaned per EB standards" in the listing so that wasn't the issue. They put in a help ticket to IT to look into it & said they'd let me know when it was resolved. To this day still no response to the error. Yesterday I decided to try it again got same error, so I did process of elimination starting by removing the brand to see if that was why & then removing the word "pants" just leaving as capri it then let me list them. So this new flagging system they have definitely is glitchy on picking up words they think are panties. 🤦‍♀

    This is the only statement on EBAY about used clothing...DOES NOT SAY you have to put a statement in listing!!! Clean your items
    Cleaning your clothes is an important step to selling online. All pre-owned clothes must be cleaned prior to listing. For most clothes, this means washing and ironing. For special items-like suede, silk, and other delicate fabrics-you must bring your garments to the dry cleaners. Buyers expect to receive like-new garments-clothes that is ready to wear and free of odors and stains. Note that brand-new clothes with or without tags does not need to be laundered.

    @cut_the_tags 6 місяців тому

    I knew about adding the statement about items have been cleaned per eBay’s policy. But I don’t have it in my listings. Probably need to do that.

  • @pollyanna163

    I am alergic to toxic laundry detergents. Everything scented!!! This is absolutely wrong. I only wear clothes washed in baking soda and vinegar. I'm sure sellers aren't going to do this. Ebays standards are not within my standards and I am sure sellers aren't going to "SPECIAL" wash clothing. Some vintage clothing has that vintage smell and no matter how much you wash they still have that old smell!

  • @donnac5917
    @donnac5917 6 місяців тому

    Where did you read that? Im currently reading the ebay used clothing policy right now 6/27/24 and i do not see anything about having to included a statement. Anyone else seeing that? I do see the properly cleaning sentence but thats it. Nothing about a statement.

    The clothes are going to be wrinkled after they are washed. Does eBay policy require the clothes be ironed afterwards? I'd rather stop selling used clothes before I do any washing and ironing.

    Hi I just checked the 2 items you show in the vid & I don't see your the new info updated in the Polo description. Today is 6/22 1PM.
    The Roca is there but WAY down at the bottom after a bunch of white space. I checked because I remembered from LONG ago that I could never get my bulk description updates to show on my items so I was checking to see if that was still an issue.

    Yeah, the policy has been exactly the same for years. Not a new thing at all. And since the policy doesn’t define what “properly cleaned” means you can use your discretion. My statement on every pre-owned listing states: Pre-owned clothing items are properly cleaned, washed, and/or steamed at high heat before listing.

Been selling for 11 years and never have I ever been warned, scolded, have listings taken down etc. for clothing not having been washed.
