      And yet, the B60 is grade 1 but the 560 is grade 2? 🤦‍♂️

    • @lunstee
      @lunstee 3 роки тому +1

      @@Chirael My best guess is that this is purely a matter of drill resistance. The B60 has a hardened steel anti-drill insert in the plug, and being die-cast metal, it's easy to make the recess for the insert. I think the 560 comes with a plain brass plug, which is a tighter tolerance part and better in every way except for not having anti-drill protection. Best I can figure, the difference in grade is because of this.
      To get drill protection in a brass plug, I think you have to go the B600/700/800 series cylinders.

    It's a crying shame how Schlage cut corners on their residential deadbolts by not only eliminating the ice pick protector, but making the plugs from a shitty pot metal(Instead of stainless steel)to save money.

    Hi Jason.
    Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
    So much for the decision being shrouded in mystery.
    Chinesium is becoming more popular in locks.
    Why make it cheaper then price hikes.
    If it is for customers and not just cost cutting for profits.
    Thanks again for doing this video.
    Happy Friday ya all.

    All the race to the bottom does is make me want to stop recommending Schlage for residential. There's less and less differentiating the Schlage residential from Kwikset, the keys and bottom pins used to be nickle silver, no more, the cylinders used to be brass and have tight tolerances, no more, you used to be able to swap a 6 pin cylinder into the deadbolts if you wanted to, no more, the 3" screws and beefy strike, gone, the shroud, gone. They've taken a good name and for less than a couple of dollars savings per lock basically removed almost all differentiation they had from the no-name junk.

      Typical capitalist practice - they secure a good customer base by making a decent, affordable product, and then once they've gotten "brand loyalty" they start cutting corners to squeeze out more profits. Literally EVERY. SINGLE. COMPANY. I've ever had ANY interaction with AT ALL does this bullshit :/

    Check out the B60F, its the fire rated product and should still have the pick shield.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 роки тому

      That would be a bit crazy to do unless it needed to be fire rated. I also suspect most distributors (actual locksmith distributors) would laugh at someone if they inquired about a 60 series with fire rating ;)
      If one needed fire rating a locksmith will sell them a much better product than the 60 series deadbolt.
      Side note, the "kits" with knob and deadbolt available at box stores finally made this switch as well as not sending the true security strike plates. Up until very recently the deadbolt had the shield and came with the thick backer plate and screws for the strike. Now, it is the same as this change.

    Jason, do you know of a double cylinder deadbolt that hides the screws unless you have a key? My friend said Arrow makes one. Reason is a customer wants to keep a door closed so either side cannot enter from either way, yet not be able to unscrew the lock. My excoworker suggested a dbl. cyl. Arrow DB. Do you have any other suggestions?
