This was really helpful. My deadbolt wasn’t exactly the same but it did use a hex key which I never would have considered if not for this video. Saved me an expensive locksmith call out. Thank you!
Heidi Estrada - I’m glad it helped! I couldn’t find any other videos or information on this deadbolt at the time. I figured I couldn’t be the only one looking!
I have had the lock on my basement door for about six years and I could not for the life of me, find the screws to remove this thing. I have been looking this lock up for so long and then UA-cam decided to work with me for once and lead me to this video, and I was able to change out my lock in just minutes! Thank you for making my Headache go ahead for once.
Man, I am so glad I watched this. I’ve removed and installed quite a number locks but never a double keyed dead-bolt if I remember correctly, and I have to in couple of days. Thanks for the upload. Appreciated.
Jesus! I had a lock smith come over and he couldn't take the dead bolt lock off. No wonder. Let me watch this a few more times and maybe I can do this. Great video and thanks for sharing.
I've got an ancient Schlage double deadbolt lock on my front door, but fortunately,it has phillips head bolts on each side. Yours reminds me of a Chinese puzzle box!
@@vaoutdoorssportsman3555 yeah.. thank you for replying. I need that lock gone. It's on an inside door, only 1 key, which costs $$$ to replace and probably a code which is also not available. Lol @ glad it's not locked right now. Might just replace the door.
I have a very similar one from Sears, with no screws but with two little holes as shown in the video. I tried this method many times without any success to remove the lock. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi great video but I have one question that I can't find a definitive answer to in all the comments, what size is the Allen key and how long must it be? The keys I've tried don't seem long enough, also wondering if it is an imperial or metric size. I don't want to have to buy a whole set of long reach keys if I it can avoid it. Thanks
Thanks so much for the great tip. It worked for one door with deadbolts, but with the second door's deadbolt one face easily came off but despite the proper technique the other face wouldn't budge. I suspect a stripped alan screw inside. Any suggestions? Thank you. Puzzled
+Julie Schirmer - Most likely you are correct that the issue is a stripped allen screw. If it is a stripped allen screw, you can use an "EZ Out" to grip and turn our you screw. I recommend that you ask your local hardware store for an "EZ Out" set to remove a stripped screw; they should be able to show you the correct product. Just be careful not to break off the tool when you are using the EZ Out as they are harder and more brittle then the screws you will be removing. Good luck with your project!
Thanks for the prompt reply. I will work with your solutions. I will also press my luck and ask another question. I have a 25 year old Schlage front door set with outdoor key and indoor button and a square decorative plate on the door. Twisting off the round decorative plates elsewhere worked well in the rest of the house but this square plate will not come off. I have twisted, pryed, and poked every tiny hole in the apparatus and I cannot get the thing off. The Schlage rep on customer service was useless. The door-edge bolt plate will not come off from without. Any suggestions? Thanks again. Julie
+Julie Schirmer - It sounds like you have a real puzzler there. Without seeing the lock firsthand, I am not of any use. The only recommendation I have is to take note if there are other houses in the neighborhood (assuming you live in a neighborhood) to see if your neighbors have similar locks. You may also have a well established locksmith in the area or handyman that may have worked on that type of lock before. It never hurts to ask around. I hope you are able to figure it out. Please let me know what happens! Good luck with your project!!
Thanks again. I collected all sorts of tools to drill out the alan screw and I WD-40ed it for 24 hours. I then attacked it with a brand new 5/64th alan wrench and that was all it took! NOW I have successfully removed all the knobs and locks from my 1st floor.........except one. It is a brass outdoor/indoor (front door) Schlage key and button like all the others except instead of a round decorative plate against the door it has a square brass plate. Nothing I can do will get it off. I have stuck pins in all sorts of holes, pryed it, twisted it and nothing works. Any ideas short of calling a locksmith? Puzzled still.
it is not a double key lock but has the same setup with the holes for the Allen key but the smallest I have is 5/64, is this the correct size because it does not seem to catch
If you have the same type of deadbolt, you don't need the key to remove it. I only used the key to extend the bolt out to show the allen key hole. If you notice, the second side I removed without extending the bolt. The Allen key is a standard allen wrench, I'm not sure of the size off hand.
+Paul F - try removing the the lock faces. In some cases, the face to the deadbolt is removable and the fastening screws are hidden there. Hope this helps!
+Slingshot Man- What brand lock do you have? Typically Schlages will have Phillips screws under a removable false face plate or Allen key set screws under the deadbolt faceplate.
VA Outdoors Sportsman I also am dealing with this right now. I cant get the back plate to come off. Broke a few screw drivers and blades trying to. I have a multilock and on the sides there's no access like yours
I’m trying to remove a deadbolt for which I have no key. The door is open already and I need to replace the old deadbolt. There are two(bolts/nails)?! On one side/face of this deadbolt. It also seems to be a bit smaller of a setup than usual. Haven’t tried the Allen wrench yet. I’d appreciate some help and thank you kindly!
Rich Mahogany - if you have the same deadbolt, there are two small holes on either side of the bolt, behind the cover plate, that allow access to the allen set screws. I show the holes at 1:12 of the video. You don’t need the key to remove the deadbolt, I used the key in the video only to show the allen set screw holes.
Locksmiths do not see this CRAP very often. If you are ABLE to loosen the allen screws rotate the cylinders out with the key halfway in. I had an old mul-T-lock like this a few years ago where the allen screws were stripped and the cylinders were frozen in. I had to grind that garbage off the door. Major PIA....
This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. jakob findlay - to remove the deadbolt, you don’t need the key if the door is already unlocked. You won’t be able to remove it if the deadbolt is locked. If it is locked, either lookup how to unlock or have a locksmith help you.
@@vaoutdoorssportsman3555 it was messy but I used an angle grinder, the door became locked when I tried to insert a too large Alan key (got stuck in the hole and pulled out the lock pulling out the Alan key)
Chris Estrada - Try a 1/8, 7/64, or 3/32. If none of those work it may be stripped, you can always try an ez out. Let me know how it works out for you.
Whitney McQueen, places to check - try to remove the lock set faceplate, sometimes screws are under there. Check under the deadbolt striker plate, there are sometimes set screws under there that will lock the lock set faceplates to keep them from rotating and loosening. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this video. Came really close to losing my mind!

Thanks.
Still here. Basically just the reverse of what I show to remove it. Remember “righty-tighty/Lefty-loosey”
