That guitar could not have found a better home. I remember as a teenager seeing Adrian Smith pull out his Lado Earth on the World Slavery Tour in Edinburgh. I had never seen anything like it. Dream guitar.
Smith had a Lado for at least some of the Piece Of Mind tour too. I saw them on the Piece Of Mind tour in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with Coney Hatch & Fastway opening. I and a friend were right up front, could read the logo on the guitars headstock. Neither one of us had heard of Lado before. My mind might be playing tricks on me after 40 years, but I would swear that Dave Murray also played it (or a different Lado) on at least one song. But I could very well be mis-remembering that...
@@sopwithsnoopy8779 I didn't know that. He certainly had a Dean Baby ML but I don't remember seeing the Lado during the Edinburgh gig on the world Piece Tour. Maybe he picked it up later in the tour.
That guitar was meant to be yours. Enjoy in good health. Your wife is awesome and obviously loves you. Hold on to her (and that awesome guitar). I eagerly await your next video where you are playing this treasure. Up the Irons!
Beautiful guitar! I've loved and watched your videos for a couple years now. But when you said 50 I was surprised! I thought you were at least knocking on 40 lmao. Up The Irons man🤘
I love my Earth, its my main guitar, has been for years and will be for more years to come. I know what you mean by "the feel" it's unique. Enjoy dude. I enjoy mine every time a play it.
Yep Sir. Left handed Earth with Quilted maple in purple and gold hardware. There is a dream guitar for me. Boy, that thing is sweet. I saw that and my jaw hit the floor also. Congratulations.
nico!!! what a beautiful guitar!!! I turned 50 rite at the start of covid...couldn't go out to dinner or anything...but, my wife authorized my purchase of a near mint mesa mark IV and then a EVH 50W stealth a few months later...cheers my brother!!!
Spectacular instrument! Congratulations Nico! You deserve it and all the happiness it brings you for all the musical insight you've given to us. Play it in good health!
That’s an absolute beauty! The Lado Earth is my favourite out of all of Adrian’s guitars. I remember studying the pictures and the gear list inside the Live After Death LP religiously. If I remember correctly, Rod Smallwood made them stop using Lados ( Dave and Steve used them too) because he felt that they were too small of a company for a band the size of Maiden. Hence the switch to boring Fenders and Jacksons
Mate, that is an absolute beaut of an axe, but to me, the colours of it is more in keeping with the colours of the Live After Death cover. Glad you love your new guitar, it is STUNNING!
That's one of the best looking guitars ever! You deserve it for sure! As an Adrian Smith addicted like you are, I'm happy for you! (and a little jealous.. 😅😅😅) Ciao from Italy!
would be amazing to see Nicko stop Adrian and say - no I think you play it like this lol - Adrian is reported to have a great sense of humour so he would prob be crying with laughter
Wow! I am extremely excited for you on this one! I have been fascinated with this guitar ever since I saw Adrian play one in those classic videos. I had no idea they were still made, or could be made. It is an extremely rare instrument and the craftsmanship is incredible. When you played those classic riffs at the end, I was smiling more than you can imagine! Thank you for making this life long maiden fans day with this video! Happy Birthday! I'm two years younger than you (also Oct birthday), and a Maiden fan since '85 : )
Those Lado pickups from Germany are made by Schaller company. Joe mentioned that back in the early 2000s. I had them in my Earth some years ago. Great pickups. Similar to Dimarzio Super Distortion. Michael Schenker used those pickups for a time, as well.
What an incredible, beautiful instrument I turned 50 also this year. I know nothing in Floyd rose but man what a sick sick axe. I got myself a silver burst Les Paul custom this year for my birthday. I subscribed right away after few minutes❤❤❤bravo
Some years ago I had the immense pleasure to acquire a revamped 1979 SF-2 bass from Joe, through Mike as well. Went to Lyndsay as well with a friend, I felt the same way, it was a great encounter and I cherish my bass dearly since
Guitars like this are not only one of a kind - they're a bubble in history. When Joe Lado leaves this world, not for a very long time I hope, his expertise and knowledge of how to make these goes with him. You can have your Gibsons, Fenders, all of the other rightfully legendary big name brands - but this is the passion project of a master luthier. I'm sure it wasn't cheap in CAD, but even then, it's worth so much more in terms of mastery, love and passion. I'd love it if you could get an interview with him and see if he could share some of the knowledge he's gained over the years on how to make these master pieces. Congrats Nico and a shout out to Sarah, she's such a fantastic caring person. And to Myles too, the big fella!
Ever since seeing Adrian Smith slaying it onstage with his Lado back on the Powerslave tour, I have been in awe of these guitars. They look so good, sound great and they are top quality. One day, I hope to have one.
That little spark in your eyes at the end gave it away :) It really shows the power music has of connecting people even when there isn't a note being played. Congrats on your guitar, Nico. I, too, remember falling in love with this model when I first watched that video many many years ago :)
The mark of any master of what they do is to make the extremely difficult seem simple and easy to do. You sir are a master of your art, and a pleasure to watch and hope to advance my playing
Interesting bit of history (for those who’d like to know) Back to 1989. I went to Joe at his Scarborough location at Warden and St. Clair road after my guitars had been stolen and I had some decent money from the insurance settlement to order a new Black Rhoads V-copy guitar from him instead of an authentic Jackson. He must’ve had a bad day (recently?) because I distinctly remember him saying to me “this is the last custom guitar I will EVER build for anybody!” He mentioned something else about carrying on with repairs, standard builds and an acoustic line (possibly repairing B-Stocks of notably guitar factories…a 12 string Takamine was one of those I bought one the spot from him that same day. Obviously he didn’t stop custom building…lol! And if anybody out there has a Lado Black Rhoads V with a mirrored steel pickguard…that was mine! And yes I did also buy an Earth model from him: Teal blue on a Birdseye maple body and neck. I sold it about 10 years ago on eBay to a buyer in Florida I think. These days I’m a professional high end woodworker and semi pro Luthier…I build my own. And I’ve made 2 “updated” Earth models: both 6 and 7 strings variants. Fantastic design!
you are perfect for each other. im sure it was worth the wait, patients is a virtue i struggle with but look how it has paid off in your case. wish i had been patient on the right woman, you my friend have so much to be thankful for. I love the comment about your wife making mental notes regarding her plan about your 50th. that is an extremely special lady who has probably had to sacrifice time with you because of your playing and what does she do? buy you a gift that she knows will take you away from her even more. make sure she knows how special she is.
Oh I really thought the one in the earlier video was yours, just like I wrote in your earlier video, that is such a beauty of a guitar =) I just love those golden outer/binding lines with that deep "blueish" color, blue and gold goes gr8 together =)
He used a red one with fixed bridge in other videos, he borrowed that one from a friend. I think he also owns another Lado, but it's a superstrat, not an Earth. Edit: He says everything in the video and even showed the superstrat. Should had waited until the end 😅
3:30 Haha. I turned 50 this summer and 'my wife' just got me an electric motorbike yesterday ( a bit late because of a long summer holiday ). Seems like turning fifty is a good thing :D Happy birthday in advance and congratulations. You really deserve that beautiful guitar. Also, And the blue finish plus the gold hardware reminds me of the "Live After Death" cover.
A friend had a nice natural finish Lado double cut (LP Jr. shape) back in '76. They had just arrived in the music stores in Toronto. I played it. Super solid, great tone, and a fast neck. Don't know why he sold it. Actually it's because he was an intermediate player, and had lost interest in guitar. I am always checking pawn shops, and used guitar ads. It's very rare to see a Lado for sale. They are keepers for sure.
Wowww!! Absolutely awesome! It look and sounds amazing and I'd love to feel how it takes life in the hands... Truly the perfect gift, in unforgettable circumstances!! 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
Nice one! Congrats on reaching 50! I can hear in your voice how much you like the guitar. What an excellent present. The analysis of the guitar was interesting, too.
What a brilliant video! Both my Warmoth Super Strats I built have the old school non recessed Floyds on the body, like what was done when they were first retro fitted back in the 80's. What people had to do was shim the back of the neck in the pocket to create a neck angle. Warmoth machine the pocket angle, instead. However, if you choose to not have a the bridge recessed, the angle is not required. As for stainless steel fretts, the only advantage is they last ten times longer and don't wear so easily, resulting in re-fretting. They are worth it for that reason and both my Warmoths are over ten years old with no visual frett wear at all. Anyway, what a great video and you're a great guitar player!! I like your Lado guitar alot!! Hello from Western Australia! Subscribed.
