THANK YOU! The second exercise of grabbing the ribs and twisting a little was what finally relieved me and I’ve had this extremely tight sore area for a couple of days now!
so I have had thoracic back pain since covid started. I did these stretches this morning and I have been almost completely pain free all day-a first in three years. And I have tried everything. Thank you so much for this!

Been sleeping on the couch for a few months and been suffering from back and rib pain. Glad to say those few months down the drain. Haha I feel much better now. Much mahalos coach 🤙🏼
I can't tell you how much this helped. One of the intercostals on the left side felt like it was caught under my sternum and this helped immediately. Thank you!!
Mate, thank you so much. Haven't been able to breath properly for like two weeks. Agony when leaning and felt like I had a constant stitch. Nothing was helping. I'm lieterally 2.01 mins in and the pain and tightness are gone. Thank you again!
Thank you for this video I think this will help me. I have canal stenosis in my neck and because of this the physiotherapists will not see me. I also have previous rib fractures that did not set right and go inward and lower rib is slipping, because of this I have a lot of pain and the intercostal muscles have significantly decreased as I was shown on an ultrasound which has reduced my mobility a lot. I am going to have a go at these exercises as they seem very low impact and I can adjust them to slowly increase as I get stronger.
I would recommend you seek medical advice from a specialist to perform proper exercises for your specific diagnosis. These are meant as ideas for mobility and not intended to treat any specific condition. Thanks for checking out the video!
i have pain under my right rib cage due to cold & severe coughing for around 2 weeks. after taking prescribed medications, the pain got a little better, but didn't go away completely. the doctor performed an x-ray & told me that it is just a minor infection because of the cold weather, but i'm still suffering from the pain & it gets worse at night. what should i do? after doing two of the exercises in this video, the pain feels a little better tho.
There’s a specific tender spot / rip that just hurts when I do thoracic extension or put pressure. I’m wondering whether to work through the pain a bit or ease off. It seems like one rib or specific spot is tight but then again I have anterior pelvic tilt / forward shoulder so my mobility when I raise my shoulders is garbage. I’d assume thoracic flexibility is garbage too.
I strained it on my second class. But, it only felt sore. Went back to class, and afterwards. My ribs were aching so bad. I still went for drills. But, avoided rolling because the pain was way too strenuous.
My left lower mid back was too sore to sleep last night. These exercises helped well this morning (I skipped the back roller as using one last night actually cemented my problem - perhaps I should have warmed up before rolling and been gentle). But regardless, the other exercises were very helpful, thanks
i dont remember any but i was anterior pelvic tilted and now correcting my posture by strengthening abs. but when i crunch i feel like there is something pulling in my back ribs
I am also just recovering from a rib injury, was off for 6 full weeks, started with just technique on weeks 7-8 and just now back to full class & rolling. I find the following exercise very good for warming up my ribs before a class: Lie flat on you back with arms out to the side in a T. Pull your knees up to your chest and then drop them gently sideways to the floor, do this for both sides. Keep your feet/toes on the floor and continue alternating sides for as long as its comfortable. Hope this helps and makes sense ;-)
What if you can’t get on your knees? I have an artificial knee and kneeling down is a big No no also lower lumbar problems makes it so that folly thing probably isn’t happening. But I gotta get this damn burning out of my Mid and upper back it gets bad it hurts into my ribs when I breath and I can’t take in a full deep breath.
Lori White are you working on postural corrective exercises? Strengthening the mid back and also working on thoracic extension? Using a foam roller or even seated thoracic extension using the back back rest of a chair?

Hey thanks for the question. It would be difficult to say without an assessment so important to see a medical provider if its not improving. Gentle mobility and range of motion exercise can be helpful at reducing the stiffness, soreness, and pain but its better to know what the exact injury you are dealing with is so that you can treat it properly.

When I started BJJ, I had rib pain twice. The first time seemed to be an injury as it happens after another newbie fell on my right side. I stopped all BJJ for a week or two until the pain went away. The second time was shortly after I resumed BJJ. Unlike the first time, the soreness was just about all over my ribcage and not as painful, and not caused by anything obvious. My instructor said it was normal and my ribs would toughen up after the pain leaves. I continued regular training. He was right! Never came back.

Hi Joy-Jitsu therapist! I fell two and a half years ago on my back, now have rib, neck, and back issues ever since. My ribs seem to easily move causing sharp pain and discomfort while my back is very tight and stiff. I’m wondering if you have any information about hypermobility in ribs. Thank you! :)
Strengthening and stability work for the shoulder blade muscles (rows, pull aparts, etc.) Planks are a great exercise as well to work on stability and core strength.
it sounds like you have a chronic issue going there from an injury that was not fully resolved. chances are due to your back being hyper thight, your ribs might become hyper mobile as a compensation for thoracic spine lack of motion. apart of exercises, you should consult a good local Osteopath to diagnose the problem. before you keep aggravating the stiffness/back problems. just a thought, do as you please, and yes exercise and toning always good.
I've had an issue similar to what you're describing that has also caused serious muscle tightness in the deep back muscles (or it could actually be the other way around). I'm seeing an Osteo that believes the rib head is causing the issue, and the muscle tightness is a reaction to it. I do these sorts of stretches multiple times daily and have for some weeks now but the tightness, while alleviated at times, always persists. any ideas based on your knowledge of rib injuries, etc?

What can you do when the thoracic spine is flat and you need to restore that natural curve? Also, what are some ways to increase blood flow on the thoracic spine that would benefit someone with a flat thoracic spine? Please share if you have any tips for correcting a flat thoracic spine because there's barely any information on this problem out there. Thank you!

Is there a way you could give me a better idea of what you’re dealing with? You can email me a photo of you want at jiujitsutherapist@gmail.com
God not sure what the cause is. Are you breathing deep or extending your spine? Sometimes the popping sound can be a gas build up in the joints of the spine being released with movement.

How will I know if it isn’t cracked ribs?
You would need an x-ray.
Are there any exercises you would recommend for correcting a flat thoracic spine? A lot of people suffer from kyphosis (hunchback posture) but what do you do when you have the opposite problem? What can you do when the thoracic spine is flat and you need to restore that natural curve? Also, what are some ways to increase blood flow on the thoracic spine that would benefit someone with a flat thoracic spine? Please share if you have any tips for correcting a flat thoracic spine because there's barely any information on this problem out there. Thank you!
Are you lacking motion and having stiffness?
I like general cat-cow movements, the movements shown in this video, and even a prayer stretch (downward dog position).
Is there a way you could give me a better idea of what you’re dealing with?
You can email me a photo of you want at jiujitsutherapist@gmail.com
When I breathe my back cracks can someone explain please
God not sure what the cause is. Are you breathing deep or extending your spine? Sometimes the popping sound can be a gas build up in the joints of the spine being released with movement.

@@TheJiuJitsuTherapist is it ok if i do this, it hurts slightly in the right side of my rib if i take a deep breath..got into a motorcycle accident, my arm got most of the impact, and i think its a bruise in my ribs cause its not that painful, its been 11 days now but the pain is still there
@@chestervanidemne847 you shouldn’t have pain when you do the exercises. It’s probably best that you see your doctor first and get assessed.

Can I play football after recovering from this
It depends on the injury type and how long you have been injured but I’m sure that once you are healed you should be able to get back to normal activities.
