These exercises work. Im an old lady and i hurt this muscle and it felt like being stabbed. No pills for me , i did these exercises and they worked. 3 weeks until i didnt feel horrible pain...
You can get a strain from doing just 1, that's why a little warmup is important. As someone who never did stretches before any body weight excercises I learned it the hard way haha. Even a 30 second stretch for arms, 30 seconds for hips etc. can help tremendously
Couldn't help notice your comment since I'm here for the exact same reason (tried to force a sweep from a structurally weak position.... POP!). How long have you had to rest? Are you back training yet?
This is amazing! Just had a rib injury and this helped a lot. I'm a massage therapist and personal trainer so I do have some understanding of the body/ muscles and I can definitely see this working on anyone with this strain. Very clear and excellent instruction!
Thank you for the explanation of rib pain. I have an injury to my right side and it sure feels like broken ribs. Now I'll do these exercises and get some relief. Thank you so much!
Superb🤩🤩...the mobility exercise is very very effective....my pain its just gone...I was not able to even walk bcz of this pain but now I feel nothing like 0 pain🥳....just go for it🎉🎉
I think I will bring this video to my doctor and to the emergency department of my hospital I have only recently been to both of them and neither had any idea what was causing my pain they put it down to costacondritis and muscle inflamation but it feels exactly like the intercostel muscle pain you described it is 10 out of 10 pain but the stretches you've shown do help a lot in fixing the muscle pain the pain in your ribs shoulders and chest is very severe and stops you doing everyday tasks so thank you for this
Been struggling 3 days now with this left intercostal pain due to consistent left sided sleeping position . this pain radiates to my chest and to the back of my left scapula . I always put liniment ,pain patches and been to a massage therapist but the pain keeps coming back ,not until i saw this video and tried to follow the steps and gladly feel a relief somehow. Thanks a lot
Just what I've been looking for a few gentle exercises for rib tightness release. I've carried my rib injury for some years, it is amazing how long it takes for those deep tissues to completely heal. That's perfect thank you! 😊
Amazing! We are so glad it helped! You might find the video on reducing stiffness and tightness in the upper back a nice addition focusing on the rib head attachments into the thoracic spine as mobility through here can also help with rib tightness and overall movement :) ua-cam.com/video/sSuzEMjPVig/v-deo.html
@@OsteoandPhysio It is "greatly appreciated" just what the doctor ordered. Your nice and simple soft stretching exercises will definitely help to improve and heal my rib issue, thank you! 😊🌹
Thanks for the help. This is the first time I have ever had a pulled muscle like that and I got it just by yawning (most of my injuries are from seemingly random actions). Fortunately it's nothing like plantar fasciitis (I thought I'd never run ever again, cause it took almost 6 months for me to recover).
Big thank you, i strained the muscles in my upper back and ribs playing golf. Rested for 3 weeks all pain gone but on that specific place you mention. After just doing your exercise once the pain went totally away. Will be doing for a couple of days and see if I can go back and play.
i just got out of the hospital after 3 days of progressily worsening symptoms, omg this was not soreness, this was pain that could have given me a stroke... It felt like i was being kicked into the front and back of my ribs, taking my breath away and causing me to scream out, i could not yawn or sneeze, that would have me on the floor in tears trying to catch my breath... I am in germany and the ddoctor said the intercostal muscle was pulled and some nerve that got pinched from trying to hold in because of the strain...doctor's idea... and I'd say that it fits the situation.... a muscle relaxer i was given at teh hospital was ennough to get me thru the next 12 hours where i was able to get a thai massage, which focused just on the back and neck area to really dig into these pressure points, it was so intense i vomitted.. this stuff is no joke... iand then from that massage Ive been doing these youtube videos for about 30minutes now, this is my last one, this was a good one to come down to. The pain is incredible, but its amazing how the release and relief is almost immediate if u treat it with stretches( and massage), I know some people may be lookinng for help and the pain is too intense, but just go for it and breath thru or have someone help and force u into these positions while u focus only on breathing... its worth it... it doesnt make anything worse and the pain relieves really quickly albeit maybe not 100% This stretch I felt it thru all of my ribs and it just took so much pressure off.
this has been very helpful--i fell while running 1 week ago and the pain hasn't subsided but actually seems to be building. but with gentle stretching and movement, I think it's on the wane.
I only got as far as the part when you lift your arms up, its my lower floating rib area that ive injured and its agony. Will.try in a week or so..T.Y.
Thanks for the video. I believe I have intercostal strain on one side. I workout around 7 hours of HIIT per week. Last Saturday was the 13th day in a row of HIIT training. I tried a new routine which had an excerxise with a sharp, forceful downward pull using the arms. This was a move that I hadn't performed before and I think this could have been the cause of the strain. Intercostal strains are uncomfortable. I had a strain once before when I smashed 300 golf balls on a driving range. I'll follow your advice for recouperation. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for this! Finally got some relief after straining my right side ribs. Pain isn't completely gone, but I can at least take a full breath! I had tried just about everything usually recommend (side stretches, pain meds, and heat), but the fingers under the ribs move was what really brought the pain down 😩
I think I have this injury as its sort of a sharp pain while breathing deeply on the right side of my ribcage but its lower half. Went to the doc they gave me pain medication, reading about it online seems like its going to take a while before it heals, as I tend to heal quicker on other injuries, but this one still stings after a month :/ will try you stretches today thanks for sharing... probably hurt it while either olympic weightlifting or doing heavy dead bug dumbbell exercise... great overall content for sport related injuries, subbed :)
Was deadlifting and a lapse in focus caused a Intercostal Strain in the back left of my ribs about 1 inch by 3 inches of area has consent pain and the pain can spread during mobility. i will try this and I hope this works for me even tho its focused on chest intercostal.
Hey man, did anything help you resolve the injury? I basically did the exact same thing, deadlift and all, 3 months ago and it's still causing pain. I appreciate any insight you can give.
So 2-3 weeks ago it was either through coughing or starting a new furniture delivery job, or both. But I started to get a pain on my right side ribs. It’s so bad now because of the nature of my job that just taking steps, going over bumps while driving, even talking too loudly can give me jolts of pain in my upper to mid right ribs.
What you explain from 0:47-1:03 is a pain ive had for over 10 years. It never goes away and some days are worse than others. I was given muscle relaxers but they've never worked. Doctor's haven't been much help as they've all said it's most likely muscle spasms, i never injured these areas, and im not sure what to do anymore.
Hello, thank you so much for your comment. If you have tried muscle relaxants and other treatments we would expect the spasm to have resolved unless other structures may be involved or you are regularly aggravating the same area potentially with work or sport. We would recommend definitely seek advice from a musculoskeletal expert including an osteopath or physiotherapist who could provide hands on treatment, exercises or advice to work on the ribs but also surrounding structures :)
If you are having trouble recovery from this injury after a long period of time it could be because of sneezing or cough. Try applying pressure the area when you feel the sneeze/cough coming on. See how that works after a few days. Worked for me.
I have pain with left upper ribs. Two joining chest bone.and middle top rib pain sometimes by armpit left.been going on awhile.chropadist did not help.l will try these excercises.thank q
i think this is what i have. i was convinced i had gallstones but just got an ultrasound and apparently my gallbladder looks normal. but it's excruciating!!! i can barely do anything. and i have no idea why it would have started 😢
Had this & thought it was my kidney or other organs.. gnarly pain. Went to the gym and hung from pull up bar for 20-30 seconds about 3-5x and also stretched for about 10 min. on an exercise ball arching back over it. Noticed a significant decrease in pain after that so been doing this since & it has almost gone away. Ran it by an acupuncturist friend who informed me it sounds like my intercostal muscles which led me here! Additionally using my inversion table & also swimming (floating on back and stretching arms) has helped me. Try that!
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I'm in a lot of pain with an intercostal strain and the only tip the hospital gave me was to apply heat to the area. I will definitely be starting these breathing and stretching techniques around the clock from today!! Would you know please, what way would you recommend to sleep, with this injury? What would be the best to improve healing time etc? Thank you so much in advance ❤️
Hello, thank you so much for your comment and we are so sorry to hear you are suffering! Have you had you ribs and spine assessed by a musculoskeletal expert for example an osteopath, physio or chiropractor as hands on therapy could really help with the movement and reduce soreness plus making sleeping alot more comfortable :) In the meantime propping up pillows to position the body to take pressure off the ribs could help
If you have an intercostal strain, how long should you wait to return to activities? I usually golf once a week...not sure if I should give it a miss? Thanks
Hello, thank you for your comment. This is a great question and we would normally recommend when you are back to full movement and breathing without pain. We would 100% recommend getting your symptoms assessed by a musculoskeletal expert before going back to golf as they may advice additional hands on treatment to prevent reinjury as well as additional advice to get you back playing quicker :)
I got pain in rib right below armpit. I was doing exercise with 10 pound dumbbell. I strained my shoulder while doing dips like a year ago. I was exercising with a dumbbell and started feeling pain in this area . Not sure if it's because of sleeping wrong which is what I'm thinking it's from
Hi, I've been having muscle pain for about a week. It's my left side, rib cage area. The only thing that helps is taking anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen and heat therapy. I can't sleep on my side anymore I have to be on my back or it will start hurting so bad it leaves me almost breathless. I'm a 26 year old girl, I don't do hardcore exercises and I'm not severely overweight, I can't think of a reason why my back started hurting. I will try these exercises but it is still really difficult to bend over.
We would recommend trying hands on treatment to help asses the rib mechanics, the thoracic spine as well as the intercostal muscles etc. We recommend searching for a local osteopath, physio or chiropractor near you and get them to assess properly and use hands on treatment to help if relevant :)
@@OsteoandPhysio Hello, I’m almost facing the same pain on my left side upper back (front and back side) as i had an bike accident 5 days back, i want to let you know that it’s recovering but it comes back while i do any physical activity. And how many days will it take to recover fully so i can do gym. Thanks and regards.
@@prashankkumar6398 I have the exact same thing now. Took a bodyshot during sparring which injured my rib initially, however now having pain in upper-back. Has yours healed yet?
Hi nicole it's as you've heard the lady say its intercostal muscle strain it doesn't take much for it to start paining you you can hurt it just by turning in bed at night or by lifting something heavy or by mopping a floor it is a very debilitating pain while it scary and very painful it not dangerous or life threatening just do a few light stretches like the lady showed you and you will feel a bit better in a few days good luck
I'm looking to do this later today before my chiropractor's appointment tomorrow (he does PT, so I m guessing he will have suggestions.) Looks doable and helpful. Thanks.
When do you start the stretching exercises? I can barely even move the pain is so intense after 2 weeks. I just do heat and anti inflammatories but still the pain is extreme.
I slipped in shower and finally went to ER they said I intercoasual sprain. I also have had 3 spine surgeries in 2019 for scoliosis. Rods and screws put in. The pain is excruciating 😢.
What if you cant even lift your arm? just sitting writing this msg is painful. i cant even walk properly. When should a person see a doctor? I can breath normaly but i cant walk or lay down on my bad without it being painful. I will try to do these excercises thank you :)
Hello, thank you for your comment! If you are struggling to lift your arm, we are wondering if there are other musculoskeletal structures involved so definitely seek advice from a musculoskeletal expert for example osteopath, chiropractor or physio etc to be able to do hands on treatment and give you a proper diagnosis :)
Good video. I hurt my rib muscle(s) 10 days ago trying to prevent the wind from yanking my car door when I opened it. Felt a sharp pain immediately. It seemed to be getting better, but as of a few days ago has gotten a lot worse. I can manage throughout the day, by avoiding sudden movements and exertion on the left side, but what's absolutely *killing* me is getting into and out of a sleeping position. It hurts like hell, and I feel like every time it just re-injures the same area, so that even if a little healing happens during the day, it's all nullified by going to sleep. What can I do?
Thank you so much for your feedback! With regards to the pain being persistent there may be other structures involved in the original injury for example instability through either the sternochondral or costovertebral/ costotransverse joints or hypercontracture of the intercostal muscles still that may need hands on treatment. We recommend definitely getting your ribs assessed properly by a musculoskeletal expert as may need either hands on treatment or referral :)
@@OsteoandPhysio Thanks. I may end up doing that. It's still been less than two weeks since the injury, and I've really only just started treating it seriously with deep breathing, mild stretching, hot packs, and even "infrared light therapy", though I'm dubious that that last "therapy" is any more than wishful thinking: seriously, how far does 660 nm and 850 nm light travel into body tissue anyway?. I also started taking Aleve again after being off it for a few days (I can't take NSAIDS for longer than about a week without developing stomach pain).
@@hazeieris4478 After finding a way to get in and out of bed without pain (by laying down and getting up sideways using my good arm for support) I started getting better, but still, every time I'd almost forget about the problem, I'd do some otherwise harmless motion during the day, exerting force a particular way, that would make it hurt all over again. Over time I got better at not aggravating it, and now I finally seem to be mostly over it. That said, I'm STILL not back to exercising the way I used to though I'm trying to slowly ease back into it. The occasional north east US snow storm that required me to do an hour or more of shoveling this past winter probably didn't help though *maybe* it actually did because it FORCED the muscles I was avoiding using back to work! I suspect I had developed scar tissue during the healing process by resting too much and that that will have to be eliminated before I can get back to normal. I'm hoping that continued gradual increase of activity will do that. So, that's my recommendation: first, make sure you can find a way to sleep fairly comfortably, and then after a week or two of strenuously "taking it easy", start doing normal stuff again, even if it hurts a little, before scar tissue forms. Other than that I regret to say that I found no magic pill/supplement/diet or therapy method that sped up my recovery. I suspect actual professional physical therapy would have helped, but I was very reluctant to schedule that due to COVID concerns. Good luck!
@@-johnny-deep- Thanks so much for your detailed response and advice. I'm sorry to hear that you haven't fully recovered but I hope you get there soon! I've rested for 2 weeks so I will follow your advice and start moving again... fingers crossed! Thank you again for your help! :)
I had A Heart Condition called "Angina" - my heart beat is irregular even tho i do calisthenics exercise almost daily.Thank You Ma'am for this, i will do this regularly everyday along side with my arced spinal cord exercise routine
Potentially, we would always recommend getting this assessed by either a musculoskeletal expert or medical expert first to provide you with a diagnosis as it is easier to treat and rehab later :)
I suffer from allergies, I sneezed very hard & heard/felt a pop under my ribs on my left side. It hurt again the next morning i sneezed, & it hurt like crazy. What do you suppose it can be? It doesn't hurt to breathe
I have the same. It happened when I sneezed. I can't cough or sneeze as it'll hurt. It's the intercostal muscle. I'd much rather as n external injury than this but, what can you do.
When I try to stretch out like this especially leaning backwards as you suggest, I feel very shaky in that area almost like when you overwork a muscle from weight lifting and I find it hard to breathe....is it safe to still do these stretches?
Worked out couple days ago , first time in a while doing it that intense, now under left breast near middle but not middle to sore to touch feels little swollen but left rib cage sore as well, did i pull a muscle oe what could it be, hurts when i touch it move certian way etc
What would that extra growth over the injury sight be, I went to physio for a bony lump on my rib cartilage because they would more likely know what to diagnose. She said it was a costal cartilage muscle strain or seperation. What would you say that bump would be?
Hello, that is a really great questions and to be honest without assessment through the ribs it is hard to say exactly. Have you damaged the ribs before? previous fracture? The bump may be linked to healing post trauma.
@@OsteoandPhysio yeah, I guess I’ll just trust my physios, judgements. It does cause me a bit of anxiety, however I think it’s best to just listen to what she said.
Hi. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have all of these symptoms. Slightly panicking that this won't be healed before I go into labour, had anyone else been in this scenario?
Hi Michelle a lot of people are suffering with this pain it's called intercostal muscle strain it's a very painful condition your ribs hurt your chest hurts and your shoulders hurt as I said to nicole in another text you can hurt the intercostal muscle just by turning over in bed or by lifting something heavy it doesn't take much to hurt it and as I've told nicole while it's very painful and frighting it's not dangerous or life threating if you can manage a few light stretches and put some heat on the area where the pain is it should help a bit I myself have this pain about six weeks but I'm doing what the lady in the video showed us to do and it does help a good bit by stretching the stiff muscles good luck with your new baby
I don't know if it's my gallbladder or strained rib muscle.. I've had the pain for 3 days.. I don't have pain when i walk or I'm being active.. I usually have pain when i sit or lay down in a certain position.. And when I'm in a car and it goes on a speed bump😰
Hello, thank you for your comment! We recommend definitely getting this assessed by a musculoskeletal expert or your GP. Normally with gall bladder involvement it is pain over the right lower ribs, referral to the right shoulder as well as changes in bowel habits and aggravated with fatty food.
And the gallbladder doesn’t usually hurt on speed bumps unless you’re already in excruciating pain from it. If you feel like that’s your issue, I highly recommend a product called Stone Free from Planetary Herbals. Get on Amazon or many health food stores. It’s good stuff.
Hello mam i am 20 years old and privious month i was doing one day excessive excersise and zumba dance 28 min then i feel. Breathing problem. I carried a heavy thing and i heard something on by high back crack and i tought i have a slipped disc i am afriad to go to the hospotal cuz its an pandemic time, it hurts my right upper back and when i breathe hard i feel something and it hurts
It is very hard to diagnose without proper assessment but some suggestions why you heard a 'crack' could be cavitation of a facet joint of the thoracic spine or your costotransverse/ costovertebral joints (where rib and spine meet) when you lifted. We would recommend seeing a musculoskeletal expert to have your spine and ribs assessed properly to see if the cause is mechanical or referral is needed :)
I bought a new mattress and seems like my body and back didnt like it at all I wake up with back pain and rib pain ( i never had back pain before) my left rib is killing me... Any tips?
Hello, thank you for your comment and we are so sorry to hear you are struggling. Have you had your symptoms assessed by a musculoskeletal expert as hands on treatment and expert advice for movement & strengthening could really help as would be tailored to your specifically :)
I'm pretty sure I pulled one mine whilst extending my chest out too much in a rowing exercise. During my rest period the pain went away and I was able to finish my last set with no discomfort. Today it feels tight and sore though. Is this likely to have a short recovery time? I'd hate to have to take time away from heavy lifting when i'm making so much good progress right now! :(
Hello, this is a great question! It is extremely difficult to answer without a full musculoskeletal assessment and examination to determine your specific diagnosis, saying that normally between 4-6 weeks if it is a straight forward intercostal muscle strain. We would 100% recommend getting this examined properly to find the best treatment and management for you :)
You really helped with my intercostal muscle strain. You are also cute and it helped for me to keep up and listen to your advice, anyways thank you I appreciate it, keep up the great work.
I've been getting a needle like pricking pin in the chest originating from the shoulder blade. I've been taking beta blocker painkillers as recommended by doctor. I was wondering if the above exercise could help me heal faster.
@@OsteoandPhysio I got my complete heart examination done last week like ECG, Stress Test etc. Doctor concluded that this condition is nerve related. Iam assuming it has to be intercostal strain
Five weeks ago I bent over and strained my back pretty severely. I have burning pain on my right side. Sometimes the pain moves around to my right upper back, and sometimes it moves back to the spot of the strain in the mid thoracic area. I’ve been going crazy. MRI shows no disk damage and a healthy spine. The burning pain on the right side is most frequent. Is this an intercostal muscle strain? Thank you.
Hello, thank you for your comment. It sounds like this could be potentially a strain with associated compensations through the surrounding structures which typically become painful and restrictive to help the body deal with the pain e.g. neck, shoulders and spine. Without proper assessment and palpation of the breathing and rib mechanics it is hard to diagnose. Have you had this assessed by a musculoskeletal expert as hands on treatment may be exactly what the body needs :)
I hurt mine by doing a 100 lb sandbag exercise. The first two weeks I couldn’t breathe and my chest hurt. I ended up with pneumonia. After two months of no upper body strength training and pain free I started using my push-up board. After a week of using the board the pain in my back started again. So now I’m back at square one. Should I start these stretches right away or wait a few days?
Hello, thank you for your comment and we are so sorry to hear that you have suffered with pneumonia. Initially we would recommend getting your ribs and thoracic spine assessed by a musculoskeletal expert first to ensure optimal rib function and remove any tightness/ tension pattern. It will then be so much easier to add in exercise routines later :)
Hi great channel, I have dumb question, I currently have this injury why does it both hurt and feel good at the same time. Kinda like a comfortable pain that feels odd. Thanks in advance.
Hello, this is not a stupid question at all. We always hear this expression of 'good pain' when individuals are doing exercises or having treatment as it feels like it is getting to the root of the symptoms :)
I’ve got scarred intercostals in the back from breathing issues via Costochondritis. How do I loosen those rear intercostals particularly 10-12 ribs permanently? I get partial relief pinching and smoothing out the fascia there. Please help. Thanks
Hello, thank you for your comment! Have you tried manual therapy including osteopathy, chiropractic or soft tissue work? Sometimes there are other structures involved which may be maintaining an issue that can be helped by treatment.
@@OsteoandPhysio I found out they are actually extremely weak from the previous scarring tightness. If I need to strengthen them, would you recommend deep breaths with resistance daily or every few days?

How is your costochondritis doing today? June 3rd, 2023? I have same condition, had severe dry caughing from a cold for 5 weeks just dry caughing then I got sharp pain in my left side chest and ribs called COSTOCHONDRITIS.
Hello, thank you for your comment. Have you had your symptoms assessed by musculoskeletal expert to see if hands on treatment could help in addition to exercises?
Hello, thank you for your comment. Yes this can be a side effect of exercising and treatment if an area is tender & sore. If the pain persists after 2-3 days then we would recommend seeking advice from a musculoskeletal expert as hands on treatment or more specific exercises may be more relevant for you :)
Hello, how was the torn muscle diagnosed? If this is self diagnosis then we would suggest getting a second opinion from an osteopath or musculoskeletal expert as there may be compensations in the body and therefore hands on treatment may help :) . If this has already diagnosed then definitely rest to allow this to heal.
Hi ma'am!! When I do the diaphragm release, I feel something moving under my left rib cage (like some bubbles trapped) and sometimes get a sharp pain in that region which radiates to upper back. What could it be? Please help :)
That hurts , it starts to get sore just radiating my hands up the more i bend the more it hurts , so do what i can before the soreness gets bad it can create more pain, correct ?
I woke up one morning with severe pain right under my right breast. I got X-rays and was sent home from the hospital with pain meds. Worst pain of my life.
I always tend to carry a big pail of water with my right hand. My mom suspect it was the reason I get this pain under my right breast that gets sharper whenever I take a deep breath, cough, sneeze, make sudden movements or do straining activities. I am a female with small build and the thing that I have been carrying everyday might be a tad bit heavy for me. Do you think this condition is what I have?
I only get a sharp stabbing pain in between my ribs and a bit to the right when I run and it’s v bad when I’m out of breath when running would this help it?
Hey, this is a great question! It could possibly be the intercostals or tightness in the diaphragm. We have a video on how to release the diaphragm too but try this one first and see how you get on :)
Will intercostal muscle strain come without pain in ribs? I am having some sensation in my right lower rib, some bubbling sensation and my spine hurts if i bend , it becomes somewhat okay if i stay in spine-straight position? Whats my issue? I took scans and internal organs all are normal Can you help?
Hello, this is very hard to diagnose over comments but would 100% recommend getting a musculoskeletal assessment in person to get the therapist to assess breathing mechanics, location of pain and aggravating/ relieving factors particularly if the investigations and scans have come back clear. Are there any osteopaths, chiropractors or physiotherapists near you you could book an appointment with? :)
I’ve been getting pain in my ribs on the side just below the scapula during squats, interestingly, the more sets I do (even though I go up in weight) the more the pain seems to decrease, the most painful part is after I re-rack the bar and come out from under it for some reason, I know it’s not a lat injury because chin-ups and rows don’t hurt. I rarely feel it when I’m not squatting except sometimes when I tie my shoe sitting in a chair, I feel the pain when I raise my torso back up (similar to the movement of coming out from under the bar after re-racking the bar), is this an intercostal muscle injury?
Hello, thank you for your comment and this is a really interesting history and presentation of your pain. Firstly based on your high activity levels we would want to assess function & mechanics through your whole body and spine as sometimes where the pain is located is not always where the problem is. We would want to look at your overall rib and thoracic mobility as well as shoulder, cervical and lumbar spine and of course muscle power and function. Have you had your symptoms assessed by a musculoskeletal expert already ? :)

I got an intercoastal muscle strain by just doing 5 push-ups 😂… my body weak af. Now my whole right side of lungs hurt like hell.
You can get a strain from doing just 1, that's why a little warmup is important. As someone who never did stretches before any body weight excercises I learned it the hard way haha. Even a 30 second stretch for arms, 30 seconds for hips etc. can help tremendously

Just what I've been looking for a few gentle exercises for rib tightness release. I've carried my rib injury for some years, it is amazing how long it takes for those deep tissues to completely heal. That's perfect thank you! 😊
Amazing! We are so glad it helped! You might find the video on reducing stiffness and tightness in the upper back a nice addition focusing on the rib head attachments into the thoracic spine as mobility through here can also help with rib tightness and overall movement :)

You are a GEM mam.it works like charm.
Was suffering with pain since a week.
You made my day.

We are so sorry to hear that you had to go through this! We hope you are on the mend and starting to feel better :)
Great video! How many times in day should I do this?
Thank you very much. Healing from a intercostal
Thank You, I got this when I was about to sleep I got worried, I wasn't able to move a lot, once again thank you! It feels a little better now!
this has been very helpful--i fell while running 1 week ago and the pain hasn't subsided but actually seems to be building. but with gentle stretching and movement, I think it's on the wane.
I only got as far as the part when you lift your arms up, its my lower floating rib area that ive injured and its agony.
Will.try in a week or so..T.Y.
Well Explained . Love from India .
Needed this. My anxiety goes to these regions causing tightness and discomfort. Thanks.
I had tried just about everything usually recommend (side stretches, pain meds, and heat), but the fingers under the ribs move was what really brought the pain down 😩
Thank you!

Was deadlifting and a lapse in focus caused a Intercostal Strain in the back left of my ribs
about 1 inch by 3 inches of area has consent pain and the pain can spread during mobility.
i will try this and I hope this works for me even tho its focused on chest intercostal.
How’s it going now? Has it gotten better?
im having the same problems

Thanks for the help
Try that!
Thank you 💝 my left side is hurting so bad i can hardly move. I did 64 hours of non-stop barbering in 11 days over the holidays so there you go.😭
This waa so very helpful thanks. Have had this for a while. Very painful to sneeze!!
Thank you so much for this video. This was really helpful with the pain.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Which is really good excellent 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💯👍

I was doing exercise with 10 pound dumbbell. I strained my shoulder while doing dips like a year ago.
I was exercising with a dumbbell and started feeling pain in this area . Not sure if it's because of sleeping wrong which is what I'm thinking it's from
Thank you So much for this useful information.

Thx a lot. Never thought is was possible to strain the intercostal. But after a kettlebell swing workout with a to heavy kettlebell. uhh.
I'm looking to do this later today before my chiropractor's appointment tomorrow (he does PT, so I m guessing he will have suggestions.) Looks doable and helpful. Thanks.

I have a tear in my left side its destroyed my life 3 weeks of extreme pain but im still moving around when should start stretches

I feel exactly the same as you... it’s been 4 months since you’ve posted this, have you recovered?

Can it be intercostal when the pain seems to be round the back lower-mid ribs (when deep breathing) felt like a popping feeling when I did it
Had this happen golfing a month ago. Still not willing to swing a club. This takes so long to heal it’s stupid

I’ve had this problem for a fairly long time. How long would you say recovery normally is?
So we would definitely recommend getting this assessed properly and diagnosed in person to determine whether this is due to a mechanical trigger :)
@@OsteoandPhysio I got my complete heart examination done last week like ECG, Stress Test etc. Doctor concluded that this condition is nerve related. Iam assuming it has to be intercostal strain
How long does it take to heal the soreness?
Have you had this assessed by a musculoskeletal expert as hands on treatment may be exactly what the body needs :)
it could be intercostal muscle strain, i m surving this type of pain alao :(
I hurt mine by doing a 100 lb sandbag exercise.

If the pain persists after 2-3 days then we would recommend seeking advice from a musculoskeletal expert as hands on treatment or more specific exercises may be more relevant for you :)
hi there I've torn a muscle in lower rib area will these help or should I rest
Hello, how was the torn muscle diagnosed? If this is self diagnosis then we would suggest getting a second opinion from an osteopath or musculoskeletal expert as there may be compensations in the body and therefore hands on treatment may help :) . If this has already diagnosed then definitely rest to allow this to heal.

Hello, this is very hard to diagnose over comments but would 100% recommend getting a musculoskeletal assessment in person to get the therapist to assess breathing mechanics, location of pain and aggravating/ relieving factors particularly if the investigations and scans have come back clear. Are there any osteopaths, chiropractors or physiotherapists near you you could book an appointment with? :)
Is this normal or dangerous
Not yet but think I’ll see a doctor tomorrow, thanks for the response
Been dealing with right side rib injury for years now, have tried everything from months resting to multiple physios, daily stretching, etc. Its been awful, hopefully this will at least heal the pain a bit
