You ask what I was looking for and I’ll tell you. I am a nurse and I like storage and in my washroom, I have lots of room but no storage and no place to fold my clothes so I am looking at these as a folding table! Not what you expected is it? now I have a place to put my screwdrivers and my drills and those kinds of things in my washroom, but I also have a table to fold my clothes. After looking at every one of these and weighing my options I have gone for the Yukon!
I have several of the 24” deep 42” Husky boxes and managed to pick them up on sale & holiday clearance sales for around $350 each. Total steel at that price and the extra depth made them a no-brainer to pick over the Yukon from HF. Also, I didn’t think I would use the integrated power strip (with USB) but it turns out that I use them all the time.
I almost pulled the trigger on the Husky 46x24 wood-top box at Christmas time. Then, I checked out the US General 42x22. MUCH BETTER quality for less money. I followed that up with 2 US General end lockers for $180 each. You just cannot beat the quality at that price. I am absolutely satisfied with them. I just wish that Harbor Freight offered additional steel shelves for the end lockers. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Bear.👍
I know alot of folks poo-poo the Yukon box because it's so shallow, but that's actually a feature. I can line the sides of my shop with those boxes when the Husky(and others) is too deep and prevents me from pulling more than one vehicle in while still being able to open the doors fully.
I have a Craftsman box and I guess I must be lucky it caused any problems but mine is getting old. I bought it at the end of the 70s. It even got clobbered by a fork lift and it still works but I did have to empty it and put it on its back to get the twist out of it.
On Spotify I have over 4,000 songs. I used to listen to it at night, but my local radio station, owned by an old High School buddy of mine simply rocks 24/7. They went DJ less which is a shock, I was in contact with the national DJ's they used. Well he compiled a super list of music and no ads, no DJ's just music 24/7. There are two hourly Public service ads and weather forecasts, but that is it. Now I have a Bose Wave radio for daytime and bluetooth headsets for at night. I have some ringing in my ears and music really low lets me sleep. I can still hear a mouse fart anywhere in my apartment. I never paid for Spotify and I only keep it for those times when the radio station goes down. It is a small station and our wind or snow can knock it out for a day or two...
Thank you for all of the tool box/work bench options. I had no idea there were so many brands, Jeff. I personally would like woodworking tool storage. Perhaps something with deeper vertical storage. Anyway, I sure do appreciate your reviews. I find them spot-on! You do a spectacular job. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I purchased three of the Husky brand cabinets (24" deep, 9 drawers) with power strips just before covid hit, for $258 each. the extra depth was better, and the drawers didn't feel as flimsy as HF.
Tbh if it doesn't have 2 long drawers one for sockets one for wrenches, I'll keep saving my money to get into a full size box. Right now I'm using a tool cart, built out of plywood and 2x4s with a pegboard back. I built it when we moved to get my stuff off the floor(old garage had wall to wall steel pegboard)
The table extension is pretty sweet IF ur toolbox is light enough to be easily moved around. But i could def see if being used as a table saw outfeed especially for the old belt driven saws, so ext table goes over the motor that sticks out
I got one of those Prosteel workbenches with pegboard and power strip from Tractor Supply a couple years ago for $275 when they closed out on them, they're really great value, and the quality is really good for the price, doesn't feel like cheap garbage stamp steel like some of the other brands out there, wish we had a Menards out here in Vermont because I'd grab another one.
I ordered a 3 pack of the folding workpro utility knife and I love it. Regular blade in one and put a hook blade in the other. Gifted one to a friend and ordered 3 more to pass out to buddies who help with projects because I really like these knives as a carry tool.
Probably coming up on 10 years that I bought the US General 42 inch roller and matching top chest. So pleased that I later added the 5 drawer cart. I have often said and still believe that the US General line is about the best value item at HF. Hard to beat the quality at the price. If I need to add storage, I can't see me going anywhere else.
One thing you did not mention that sets Husky apart as well as Craftsman 2000 series are the soft close drawers. It is a small thing but nice to have. I don't most of the other boxes have this feature.
Best budget tool storage is one you build yourself. Years ago when I needed a workbench, I had loads of time one winter. I built a 73 x 24 workbench entirely out of 5/8th plywood, 2x4, and 2x6. Covered it all over with black enamel paint. 5,000 lb rated car parts shipping rack casters I got for free. Looks awesome, is heavy as sin, and will never fall apart. More susceptible to termite damage than Snap-on though. I think I might have $300 hard cash into it. I had a lot of the stuff I needed to build it already, like most of the lumber, and pretty much all the hardware. I just put shelves in the bottom of it, but drawers are entirely possible, or just doors with hinges and cam locks if you need to lock it. It'll outlast me, and probably even my kids. Might not be as cool as that weekly Strap-on payment, but money is cooler to me than a place to keep my tools.
I see 4 things that I'd like to store in a drawer sort of unit. I have a small home gamer set of tools. Probably the smallest of the top & bottom box work there - the Husky. I have a knife collection - I'm thinking the Windsor wooden chest from Harbor Freight for that. This Yukon look like a great addition to my kitchen, actually. The white one would look decent, and the wood top would be great for some appliances. The thing I personally don't have a handle on are small parts. Screws, bolts, nuts, shims, cords, spare grinder discs, all that junk. Building a cabinet to hold a bunch of the plastic Stanley boxes seems maybe the best option there.
I bought a 52" Huskey about 8 years ago and its just like new. Very well made, great finish with smooth drawers. Its a quality box. I also got the optional pegboard back.
I have this wrench a 15/16, used for servicing the axle i put on the car... tho it broke before loosening the bolt. had to use a welder hammer and anvil with a hand file to fix it, works fine now; unlike the wood desk it came out of, have to have big hands to be able to open the stiff drawers? milling bits work better then hand files...
Perhaps this may not be appropriate for the topic but last year I purchased a solid wood top cabinet that is 77"W x 20"D x 37.5"H from Seville Classics via Sams Club. It is currently on sale right now for $479. It comes in Granite, Red, and Graphite. It has to be assembled as it is shipped on 2 pallets. There are 11 drawers and a 2 door cabinet. None of the drawers are long drawers. It was an interesting build but not difficult. I really like mine.
I have quite a few different brands of "Mobile Workbenches"...I've seen a few of the Husky boxes, lately, that are powder coated over bad metal...3 on the front in plain view, and 2 on the bottom, that i saw when the Home Depot employee was installing the wheels
Got the Yukon with one drawer and two cabinets option for my factory office. It’s a perfect IT and HMI work station for working on forklift mounted computers or touch screens on industrial wrappers.
I have the Yukon 9-drawer workbench. I got it because it was only 18" deep. It's my grinding/sharpening station. In addition to my sharpening jigs, stones, and related items, I use the drawers to hold other tools that I use frequently. I wanted a grinding/sharpening station because I do a lot of woodturning. I like that it's only 18" deep because it allows me to station the cart in the middle of my shop, right behind my back when I'm standing at the lathe, while allowing enough room to walk past the cart on both the front and back side. (My shop is only 12' wide. Space is at a premium.) Would the Husky, with its built-in powerstrip worked as well or better for me? Maybe. But I got the Yukon for $300 when it was on sale for Inside Track Club members. Besides, I bought one of the US General powerstrips that attach to the cart with magnets. (It was on sale, too.) After I've used it for a while, I find I prefer the powerstrip to be on the back of the cart, not the side. I have a grinder and a Tormek permently mounted to the top of the cart. It just works better to have their power cords routed to the back of the cart rather than the side. Finally, I'll repeat my assertion that the less expensive Yukon cart, with the cabinets underneath rather than the drawers, is worth considering. I like the 9-drawer cart for my purposes, but I still have some bulky benchtop tools that I don't have a good place to store. For such items, the less expensive Yukon cart would be a good option.
I have two boxes. A Husky and a Snap on. I don’t make a living anymore as a mechanic so the durability of both are fine. I like the snap on a little better but not for the price difference. The Husky is really good.
I have the original US General 44/42. Beyond that, I use lateral file cabinets from offices. The best budget tool chest. Tools weigh nothing compared to reams of paper. 😆 . Paint them to whatever color you choose with some Rustoleum.
5I bought a Yukon for $329 (yeah, several years ago). Promptly over loaded it. Yeah, I have too many tools.Go figure. I have a fetish. Liked the first one and the price, So I'm loading #2. Attached a vise to one. I apologize every time I'm out there for only occassional use. But my Yukons remain the star of the show!
3:17 I ordered a black Yukon box from Harbor Freight two weeks ago when the $50 off coupon came out, so $300 instead of $350. I know that parking lot sale will have the same box for $290, but the box had to ordered and it’s gonna take a month to get it. I’ll pay $10 to get it sooner. I just need a workbench I can move around. 6:46 I was originally going to get this red Husky box at Home Depot. Online it said my local store had 3 in stock for $300. After two hours of looking and waiting, the store manager says they can’t find them in the store. The next day I look online again, the price is up to $400 and there are now 5 in stock. My local Home Depot sucks balls.
i got a large kitchen cabinet from a re-store and slapped some plywood on it for a top, not as heavy duty but i was never planning on parking a car on top of it anyways
Ok, I'm just at the start of the video, but I heard Dresden Files. That is probably my favorite book series (that of the Discworld books). I read up to book 10 or so, and I'm going back through them on Audible.
Oh we still have a ways to go. Speaking of which my TT feed is freaking packed with people raving about your tounge honey. Honetly, it's a bit disgusting.
@@denoftools I wouldn’t, I mean look at what you do here every week! An author is a form of educator and what you do here every week on your show??? You educate us on not just tools but, a lot of other things such as tool companys , history and even some fast food restaurants! You’ll always be the channel I watch before any other! Shine on brother!!!
I just picked up the Yukon with a 25% off coupon for about $275. (Easy to come by, people on reddit will give theirs out sometimes if they cant use them.) I have a small garage and its already tight in there for me. The Yukon was cheaper and smaller. Just a homeowner not a pro, hopefully it holds up for my needs. Thanks for the video.
Have you seen Store-loc cabinets? They are the opposite of budget. I've been looking at getting an Icon chest but ran into the Store-loc folks at a trade show. American manufacturer and fully customizable. I've been working with them to design a cabinet that would maximize my tool storage and not just have the most drawers. I'm not sure if you have ever talked to them but I've been impressed. not cheap... but for a pro level cabinet still cheaper than a new snap on and customizable to your situation.
I bought the craftsman recently and agree about the screws. Luckily I have access to a pnuematic rivnut gun and endless rivnuts from work, easy upgrade in like 5 min. I got it for 450 flat, only wish it came with butcher block.
My workshop is standardized on the 32 1/2 inch tall cabinets. I have my workbench workbenches built over them. I have some that have the fold up compartment underneath, and those are cheap crap. I have some that have drawers all the way down. I need to replace the cheap craftsman ones I have with something with a better quality. What is the best brand or Bang for the buck for cabinets of those heights? I really wish Harbor freight would come out With something in that height.
First video with a real person talking top 8 videos are just AI bots doing text to speech if we're lucky ... This channel deserves more support and engagement
It's almost like the finance guys and investors over at Craftsman said "Let's make a bunch of money on cheap stuff and get out before the customers realize we're not Craftsman anymore" 😆
I have the Kobalt in Black with that blue trim 46x18" powerstrip. Good looking box ✋️ but 18" deep is getting you a 15" deep drawer. Not a good tool storage option. If you vinyl wrap and want to hold squeegees, color sample decks, crafts, ... mine is going to become a dresser or night stand. That's what i would do with these, crafts or dressers. Tools? You need the 56". More tools? , another 56"+
I remember for my first job in motorsports I got a large Craftsman combo box, their heaviest in the late 90's, for $650. Now an equivalent box would be $2000+. Absolutely absurd
LOL, Larry grew up about 10 minutes from my old house in California. In the stories you hear him talking about farms and cows that was just down the road from us. I almost included MHI but I thought Dresden would be an easier into for the newbies. Didn't want to throw them all into the deep end 😂. Oh, and speaking of MHI I was helping a buddy bring a car back from Wyoming and it was a long road trip so on the way back I put MHI on and it blew his mind. He was like "Why weren't we listening to this the entire time?!". He'd never listened to audiobooks before and now his wife complains to me about how much he listens to them.
I'm sorry but I have to correct you, it is all about me. They have to build something I want to spend my money on or I just don't buy their products, so yeah it is all about me. What happened to the bear? The talking tool bear was what first caught my attention to your channel. I'm sure it's time-consuming editing with him but I liked it.
There was a this thing with the software and the company that made it. I did a video on it about six months ago. The short of it is software companies suck, the bear is not coming back. Sorry.
The performax at menards isn't bad i used to use one at work i would say it's in between the craftsmen and the us general the wheels bolt on but has thiner metal than the us general
I don't sadly. The last time I saw a Homak box was at an industry show 5 years ago and let me just say I was not impressed. It wasn't bad but it wasn't up to speed with the rest of the market. I just looked at their site and it looks like the quality has gotten better as has the price but it still is missing many of the features you will find on other boxes. I'll have to reach out to them and see what else I can find out.
@@denoftools Ok. So far it’s super cool, easily measure anywhere in the room plus there’s a square footage mode. Nice case. The app seems to work well and I think you can do floor plans with it. Only thing I wished was the buttons were backlit or contrasting, hard to read. This thing with a level in it also would be a killer tool.
Do you think icon will come out with a series 2? I want to buy one and i fear with my luck i will buy it and than they drop the new one that same year?
Whatabout the newer Craftsman " V-Series" Pro Settup. Seems someone over there has been listening and made a better box. Got 2x of the ProSteel 52" Wood Top, Power Strip and Peg Board from Tractor Supply Specials Last Year For $250 apiece. Dings/Scratches ez but for the Price I couldn't be Happier.
@@johnseropyan when you say highest quality that’s kind of an open ended statement. You could be talking tool truck or industrial level boxes at that point. If you’re looking at nine drawer boxes, I would look at the Yukon if you are OK with an 18 inch depth if you want to go for something deeper, I would look at the husky other than that I would move up to the US General but above that you’re getting into professional level boxes
i figured i need the 24-25" deep by 52-53" to have the space i need. I've been eyeballing the $900 us general, but now i see the husky "heavy duty" one for about $100 less that I'm fixated on. that menards one looks PERFECT for only $400 (actually IN my price range) but its $365 to ship, and I'm about 6-7 hours away from the nearest one 😢
I've always been curious with the 6 wheel boxes, don't the wheels bolt on? Just put the rigid wheels on one end and the swivels in the center and other end.
I have a couple of the Husky 60" boxes with 6 wheels and they're a PIA to move into a space along a wall...some day i may change them around, or order more swivel wheels
They are the dominant player in the mid tier box, but this wasn’t about mid tier it was about budget option. Stay tuned. I’m gonna be doing a midtier video probably in the next two weeks.
I don't like the depth of these drawers, in any of the cabinets. I need a drawer that will hold wrenches, ratchets and extensions. No deep drawers, just a lot lof shallow drawers. Haven't found it yet. Thinking of maybe an old blueprint cabinet.
Jeff, please be careful about disclosing your sponsors. I didn't hear any disclosures about audible even though it was obvious they sponsored the video. You're normally really good about it, and i was surprised to not hear you say they sponsored or paid for the promo.
Red, I am looking for free shipping! 70+” long, a hutch and a side cabinet. Power and lights in the hutch. My plan is to get the US General in white. I am a small engine mechanic hobbiest, and a general Sales manager in retail full time. I wrench a lot in my overaized 1 car garage. I need real space for all my tools, and diag equipment.
@@chrisg1043 well, that’s good to hear. I was told originally that it was a pen name owned by the publisher, and that it wasn’t a single individual glad to see that they had one author for all the books
Never cared about a wood top. I guess that is for carpenters? Im a mechanic and weld some. Is that something people want? Wouldn't you rather have a work bench with knee space?
I found the wood is actually really easy to clean even with grease and oils and other chemicals on it. Most car parts are dark colored so it’s a contrasting color making it easier to see your parts and what you’re working on. If I’m banging on a part, I don’t have to worry about denting my box like I would with a thin rubber mat. It’s easier to mount a vice on. I think for most people it’s not their primary work surface. They probably have standard workbench where they can sit down at it as well. I also got one with the wood top and use it with my outdoor barbecue set up. Gives you the look and feel of a high-end outdoor kitchen at a fraction of the cost.
Well that sucks about Craftsman. I was set to buy one, now you're making me second guess on it. Made in "USA" and all that good stuff. Insulting that its flimsy built.

6:46 I was originally going to get this red Husky box at Home Depot. Online it said my local store had 3 in stock for $300. After two hours of looking and waiting, the store manager says they can’t find them in the store. The next day I look online again, the price is up to $400 and there are now 5 in stock. My local Home Depot sucks balls.
i got a large kitchen cabinet from a re-store and slapped some plywood on it for a top, not as heavy duty but i was never planning on parking a car on top of it anyways
my US General Series 2 44" cabinet is still doing a great job for my needs.
Ok, I'm just at the start of the video, but I heard Dresden Files. That is probably my favorite book series (that of the Discworld books). I read up to book 10 or so, and I'm going back through them on Audible.
Crazy to see u almost to 300k! Well deserved with all the work uve put in 👍
Oh we still have a ways to go. Speaking of which my TT feed is freaking packed with people raving about your tounge honey. Honetly, it's a bit disgusting.
“Who doesn’t 6 more inches”. 😂 Your videos are not only informative , but hilarious as well.
Omg! I didn’t know you were an author! I just bought your book, starting on it tonight!
I'd say "author" is a bit much. lol.
Hey, I went upstairs out of the basement and asked my mom. And she said it IS all about me!
The Menards 11% is not really a rebate. It is store credit for future purchases.
I have the Yukon and I have not had problem with it. I got it for 329.99
I bought the craftsman recently and agree about the screws. Luckily I have access to a pnuematic rivnut gun and endless rivnuts from work, easy upgrade in like 5 min. I got it for 450 flat, only wish it came with butcher block.
Soft close drawers are so luxurious
My workshop is standardized on the 32 1/2 inch tall cabinets. I have my workbench workbenches built over them. I have some that have the fold up compartment underneath, and those are cheap crap. I have some that have drawers all the way down. I need to replace the cheap craftsman ones I have with something with a better quality. What is the best brand or Bang for the buck for cabinets of those heights? I really wish Harbor freight would come out With something in that height.
Dresden files is so good!
First video with a real person talking top 8 videos are just AI bots doing text to speech if we're lucky ... This channel deserves more support and engagement
The top of the low end harbor freight tool box is rubber wood
US General is what I expect or Icon on the top end
Wish it was more in depth about quality and build of each box
This guy gets it... Im all in on these videos. Thanks brother!
Im all about the US General box for a home gamer. My biggest requirement is deep enough to fit the Ernst socket box perpendicular in the box!
Jeff, you need to add Monster Hunter International, by Larry Correia. If you like the Dresden books, you'll LOVE MHI!
I heard that Stanley-Black & Decker bought Waterloo. Is there any truth to that and does it effect the Craftsman and DeWalt line?
Yukon will be 290 for the Parking Lot sale in March.
Thank you. You've helped me alot.
The only thing I'm looking for in a tool chest is a place to put it. And no, I can't hang it from the ceiling.
Chinesium Craftsmen cabinets are crap, I totally agree. I bought a Husky about 10 years ago, I love it.
Thanks
Nice boxes I guess. But I dont dig that draw configuration they all have.
I call them Project Center tool boxes, Jeff.
Shine on!
You don't talk at all about Homak. Do you have any connection to them and how are their products?
I don't sadly. The last time I saw a Homak box was at an industry show 5 years ago and let me just say I was not impressed. It wasn't bad but it wasn't up to speed with the rest of the market. I just looked at their site and it looks like the quality has gotten better as has the price but it still is missing many of the features you will find on other boxes. I'll have to reach out to them and see what else I can find out.
Follow up to the bilateral laser distance measurer, I got it today and it is amazing, just amazing.
Get back to me and let me know how it works for you after a month or two
@@denoftools Ok.
@@venom5809 wait which model did you get? Because I was pretty sure it did have a level.
@@denoftools MileSEEY DP20 Pro. I don't think it has a level, it has that third top laser which I am still not 100% sure how to use.
@@denoftools Update, it does have a level, this thing got even better.
Do you think icon will come out with a series 2? I want to buy one and i fear with my luck i will buy it and than they drop the new one that same year?
Who knows. I don't see a huge push for an update there. Have you checked out their scratch and dent page?
I cant even find that Husky extendable storage cabinet/workbench anymore... 😢
Once upon a time you could get the Husky 46in x 24.5 for $300 if you shopped at the right time.
Back before Biden began "Building Back Better"?
I got my 46" box for $289 3 years ago on a 1 day special.
@@iFixJunkI believe it was his 25 percent steel tariffs Biden started
@@tomycoddSame here, but in 2019
@@iFixJunkJesus….u got to start this bullshit even on a tool channel..wtf.
I’m trying to find at least a 9 drawer mobile chest with a folding top for a mobile work table. Any suggestions?
Whatabout the newer Craftsman " V-Series" Pro Settup. Seems someone over there has been listening and made a better box. Got 2x of the ProSteel 52" Wood Top, Power Strip and Peg Board from Tractor Supply Specials Last Year For $250 apiece. Dings/Scratches ez but for the Price I couldn't be Happier.
The V series looks like good boxes, but I have not seen one in person and they’re definitely not what you call a bargain tool cabinet.
Harbor freight doesn't have the soft close doors
A guy I work with just got a husky 52” orange with black trim for $548 plus tax
That really surprises me about workpro, they usually have some of the best prices. They should get tractor supply in on that to get the price down
Looked at yukon this weekend drawers are to short from front to back also cheaper feeling than US GENERAL.
Any experience with the seville ultrahd line?
Hello from all the brands which would you say is the best quality. Thx
Yukon, Husky and Kobalt are all about the same and I'd put them at the top.
@@denoftools what would you say about US General
@@johnseropyan USG is a solid step up in quality from boxes like these.
@@denoftools thx fir the reply. What 3 brands would you say is the highest quality that you know. Thx
@@daves7525THAT'S the solution. Replace the 2 stationary wheels with swivels. Having the stationary wheels limits its mobility.
You mentioned US General a few times but didn't show any. Definitely a big player in the mid-tier in my opinion
They are the dominant player in the mid tier box, but this wasn’t about mid tier it was about budget option. Stay tuned. I’m gonna be doing a midtier video probably in the next two weeks.
So, can someone tell me how regular stand up 72” cabinets cost as much as these tool boxes with 1/3rd the complexity?
Hey red beard can you make a lawn tractor one like the zero turn video
I avoid any box with a center set wheel. Obvious weak and needs support
I don't like the depth of these drawers, in any of the cabinets. I need a drawer that will hold wrenches, ratchets and extensions. No deep drawers, just a lot lof shallow drawers. Haven't found it yet. Thinking of maybe an old blueprint cabinet.
Kennedy is the brand you want
Workforce/ Menards have by far the best tool chests for the money
Jeff, please be careful about disclosing your sponsors. I didn't hear any disclosures about audible even though it was obvious they sponsored the video. You're normally really good about it, and i was surprised to not hear you say they sponsored or paid for the promo.
That’s because they didn’t. There is an affiliate link below the video and it’s labeled as such. The reality is, I’m just a big fan of Audible. 😎
Have you read Killers of the Flowers Moon?
No but I know the story
Red, I am looking for free shipping! 70+” long, a hutch and a side cabinet. Power and lights in the hutch. My plan is to get the US General in white. I am a small engine mechanic hobbiest, and a general Sales manager in retail full time. I wrench a lot in my overaized 1 car garage. I need real space for all my tools, and diag equipment.
Semper Mars is fantastic.
I was so disappointed when I learned Ian Douglas is not a real person 😢
@@denoftools it’s his pen name. His real name is William Kieth. He’s a former FMF Corpsman if I recall, which is why he writes such a realistic story.
@@denoftools food for thought. Thanks much.
I miss the tool bear
I remember when these were less than $200..... Just buy a used box.
You can thank Bidenomics for the inflation.
Well that sucks about Craftsman. I was set to buy one, now you're making me second guess on it. Made in "USA" and all that good stuff. Insulting that its flimsy built.
Up until the last decade, I lived by the craftsman name since the 80s. It's a rotten shame that I can get better quality from harbor freight.
CRAFTSMAN is garbage! Absolute garbage!!
