    I bought the SAE/Metric 3.8" Master Impact socket set back in the fall of 2020. It was my primary set for a LONG time while I was doing a frame-off on my 1980 CJ7. If I had unlimited funding, I would buy Capri before Snap-On. Yep. I said it.

      I bet you there’s a small
      Hand full of Taiwan factories that just pump out stuff with mini differences is metallurgy design and engrave 5 different brand names onto one style of something
      Not saying it’s bad but I’m noticing A LOT of wrenches, sockets and ratchets from various well know mid level brands and they look 95% the same. Chrome might be different but not much more

      @Ratchet313 3 місяці тому +1

      Nah, their warranty is nowhere close to Tekton’s. Capri gave me a hard time about warrantying a tool that is a gift. They insisted they would need a receipt for the purchase of the tool.

    • @victorhoyt4352
      @victorhoyt4352 3 місяці тому +3

      Yeah, they are very very different companies and are in no way affiliated. Tekton will warranty something you found on the side of the road whether you have a receipt or not. Capri would never!!

      Different brands altogether.
      Tekton is Tekton, and Capri is Capri.
      ...Even if the use the same taiwan manufacture on some of their products. Because almost everyone is buying from the same few manufacturers.
      All the brands are buying a product from a manufacture. They choose the manufacturer Like choosing a car brand. (And there’s only a couple of them to choose from) Then once you have the right one. the same way you order a car with certain features, they choose the tools features.
      Every once in a while a brand will wants to stand out and look different from the other ones coming down the same line. (Only Limited by what the manufacturers tooling can do.)
      The brand is basically like a car dealership. they already ordered the car with its features.
      Then we browse the different brands until you find the combination that you like the most.
      I just hope they keep supplying us with these affordable toll truck alternatives. And I hope they don’t jack the price later for profit. Or if people actually keep record of their receipts for warranties. (And lastly I hope that all the company profits are going to the right places)

    I've purchased a number of tools from Capri Tools over the past few years and have zero complaints. The Capri 90 tooth ratchets appear to be made by the same company that makes the 90 tooth ratchets for Milwaukee. The design of the heads of the Capri and Milwaukee ratchets are very similar, and the internals are identical to one another. That said, I'm hoping that Capri will eventually offer a flex head version.

    I bought they’re chrome wobble + extension sets and they are great, (I’ve had their 3/8 extensions on impacts and they will handle anything after daily driving for 3 weeks now and no damage) I also bought their 1/4 set, amazing sets for the price

  • @stevegee218
    @stevegee218 3 місяці тому

    I have the extra long 1/4 ratchet, Very nice and one of the few extra long ratchets in 1/4. Capri has the normal combination wrench and the "wave drive" line that are for rounded off bolt/nuts. They would likely be very aggressive, but you would be likely planing to replace the Nut/Bolt at that point. They do offer single Wrench/Sockets to be ordered. I finished out another brands missing size impact sockets with Capri. I think a lot of the manufacturing is Twain. They also partnered with Westling USA for socket trays that are very high quality.

    • @Hipsters_N_Hippies

      They only want to sell the best Taiwan manufactures.
      It appears to me that they wait to see the tool prove itself, then they move in and make a few alterations and improvements if possible.
      And they take advantage of less flooded markets, like mid length impact, slim impact sockets, and longer extended reach ratchets.
      I just hope they stick around long enough for everyone’s warranty claims for the 30+ years.
      But until the end of this ride, Just keep your receipt, and a digital back up as well. They don’t really like warranty work, it’s extremely very unprofitable..well, unprofitable for the brand.
      the brand has to pay the USA government import tax. they pay the shipping industries for all stages from the time they take over the manufacturers product. And then of the brand has to of course pay for the tools from the actual manufacturers.
      Lifetime warranty it definitely a selling point....however there’s a lot of hurt to a brand with warranty tools or parts.
      So if it’s really hard to get warrantied out. Then the company will see a lot less losses from replacement tools...so I get it.
      Keep records of all tool receipts for more than just taxes.

    I've been an apprenticing Volvo auto tech and have been using the Capri double-box zero-offset wrench set for drain plugs and toe eccentrics during alignments. If the fasteners are in good shape they handle it no issue, but if the drain plug has any damage or the toe eccentrics' hexes are rusty, it will round them off. I have built a jig to measure the slop versus my mentor's Snap-Ons and there is a 10-15% difference. (Capri is looser than SO) Most of the socketry in my box is Tekton, Astro, and Sunex, power tools are HF fpr pneumatic and Milwaukee for cordless, but for the line wrenches and stuff I foresee using on rusty stuff, I do have a tab started on the red and white truck.

    • @Tarchaya
      @Tarchaya 3 місяці тому

      I have to add an addendum. My mentor's SO wrenches are several years old. I went ahead and bought the three wrenches I needed off the red and white truck. These new SO wrenches had the exact same amount of play as my Capri wrenches, and theres no refunds off the tool truck so I'm SOL there. So I guess at least as far as the industry as a whole Capris is about the same?

    I've been in automotive for 3 years now. Icon, gearwrench, and capris have been my go to. The only capris tool I've been disappointed with was their 1/4 and 3/8 drive flex head ratchets. The 1/4 had the most backdrag of any ratchet I've ever had. Looking it up online other people complained of the same thing. The 3/8 seemed fine but I had it lock up on me. The 1/2 was good but kinda loud. None of them had more than a drop of grease in them. But I really like they're 90t ratchets. Leagues better than the 72 tooth and actually feel professional grade

    They are just selling tools from the same tools manufacturers as everyone does from Taiwan. The big Give away is they are based in CA, where one of the biggest shipping ports is. Same as Harbor Freight does. They buy from their catalog at the manufacturer and have their brands slapped on it. They are a rebranding company, not a tool maker.

    Perhaps I missed it but I didn't see you go over some of the fine print of their warranty, a couple points from there, It applies to the original purchaser only and only if you buy from an authorized dealer/seller. The biggest issue with that second point is that I could not find anywhere on their site where they have a list of authorized dealers so it looks to me like their warranty is only good if you buy direct from them on their site

    • @Hipsters_N_Hippies
      @Hipsters_N_Hippies 3 місяці тому

      Also it’s a good idea to have a copy or digital copy of the receipt put aside for later. And if things keep going this way with all these companies making warranty alterations. Well, keeping digital copies is going to be the thing to do.
      Don’t forget guys, they have to clear their systems eventually. So it’s possible they won’t have any evidence of your purchase, or you might not be able to access your old accounts someday. So keep a physical copy and a digital one as well.

    Hello again, Jeff and Mrs. Bear 🐻
    Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I would have never thought of doing a background check on the Tool Company. I don't currently own any Capri tools. But I have known others who talk very positively about them. If I had to match them up to another tool company, I would think Wright Tools. And I thinking about us the customer service base. How the tool quality. Does it have a warranty program/process, how does it work. Is it like Tekton or is it a pain in neck ? Most of my tools are old school Craftsman. So there about twenty plus years old. While I am thinking about this add Tekton tools to the list. Sorry, Jeff, I just realized how much I wrote. Again thank you 👍

      🤫nobody wants to see the similarities in the chief die grinders either.
      And they definitely don’t use the some of the same manufactures as some Astro Pneumatic products.
      And they definitely don’t press sockets on the same machinery as gear wrench and HarborFreight too. With the only difference being in the finishing coat, quality control checks over number of them produced.
      (Because with their number of locations HarborFreight places some big orders.)
      Nope... not at all. This definitely isn’t happening.
      and the 1/4” drive impacts are definitely not a dead giveaway. being thin walled just like gear wrench but cheaper. (Sunex also comes to mind there)
      And the Capri comfort grip ratchets definitely ain’t made in the same press and cnc machines as icon.
      using the very similar if not the exact same kind of steel.
      Nothing to see here. Please move along, and pay no attention to what you’ve thought you saw. You definitely didn’t see it.
      (Must be that damn Mandela effect going around again, I hear it’s contagious)

    Side note. My primary address has been at a UPS Store for 20 years. It gives you a physical address, copy fax and other services, and they receive packages. And when the church people come calling they give up quickly. And it’s a deductible business expense.

    The foam trays are a nice touch - wish more US tool providers would make those available. Edit: it's possible that the founder is part of a family that owns tool making companies in Taiwan. That sort of secrecy is not unusual in that culture, neither is sons/daughters starting subsidiaries companies in foreign countries.

      Not really, the Quinn low pros are the same as Astro Pneumatic, Ares, Sunex and Husky low profile sockets. The Capris do not have the external hex drive on the back like the others. They look like they could be manufactured by the same company Tien-I out of Taiwan though.

      @@Ratchet313 true, and i agree, i do know they have the hex on them, and the capris don’t. another thing i noticed is how the quinn sockets have the color band on the bottom of there chrome sockets, similar to lowes kobalt brand, its kind of crazy when you think about alot of these tools are all made in the same factory

    I bought my 14 ratchet wrenches one at a time for 8-20$ each from eBay. Best kinda Snap-On is somebody else's 😆
    But I've wanted an extended socket wrench for a while & dont wanna pay for Snap-On. I'll probably go with Capri. The one I want is only 35$ but is even over 100$ on eBay used from Snap-On

    While I would still wonder at how Mr. Cheung got to be president of the company based on his experience, I would say with LinkedIn, it's entirely plausible that he's been working his way up, and just changed the title *without* jumping through the hoops to make LinkedIn show it as a different position than before.

    They need to team up with a supplier in the U.K. I've got some of their stuff from eBay and Amazon but I'm not sure how the warranty would work as Capri doesn't ship to the U.K. I really like their tools though, some of their stuff in better than Snap-On, in my opinion.
    Come and get some of that pound note in the U.K, Capri.

  • @bobbg9041

    The prices are not bad.
    But lifetime warranty via shipping
    You might tell them making the size stand out would help, I can look at a 10mm and know its 10mm but I've got to read whats on the tool to be sure i picked up the right tool.
    Also a 6.5mm socket is an oddball size to come by but Ford likes to use it. I've got a 40 year old one from a cheap set i bought years ago from monkey wards if that tells you anything. The sets should start
    At 6mm and up. 21 mm is not a size you often look for doing interior work. 18mm down
