Nice trip! My first time in Italy, we took a train from Florence to Venice. It was such a great way to travel, and see the country. Thanks for taking us with you!
I’ve taken the Florence to Venice train myself (unfortunately long before Global Niko) and it was wonderful. Probably the nicest inter-city train I’ve ever been on.
I left greece years ago, I live half of my life in Czechia, the most dense raailwaz system in eu if not the world . The quality seems quite average, witch is quite nicely surprising as I want to do The trip in the summer. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Michail! Yes the trains in Greece could be better. But there are brand new, much nicer trains that are supposed to be put into service, hopefully this year (they were supposed to be last year).
Nice one. We did the opposite route, taking the train from Thessaloniki to Athens. On 1st class, you are in a 4-person compartment with a lot of space around you. Stay safe! :)
Hey, mate, I'm hoping to book a 10 days trip to Greece this October, and Mt Olympus is one of the places that I plan to visit. How much is it for a train ticket to Mt Olympus? Btw, which islands would you recommend for first time visitors? So far, I only have Naxos , and either Santorini or mykonos in my mind.
As for islands, there’s so many to choose from it’s hard to recommend just one. I would have recommended Naxos if you hadn’t been there as that’s a great one. Ikaria is a great one I really liked, and unfortunately wasn’t making travel videos yet when I went there. Laid back, not overly developed, great nature, door & people. I’d say go there if you’re looking for a nice new island to visit.
@@GlobalNiko alright, so far, I've had Athens, Thessaloniki, Mt Olympus, Naxos, Ikaria, how many more places do you think I could fit into my 10 days trip? The more recommendations the better 😊
The trains are operating. Other than some 1 or 2 day cancellations due to weather during some of the abnormally strong & snowy winter storms Greece has had this winter, the trains are operating.
@@GlobalNiko thank you! Do you know if they are allowing trains into Greece? I tried to find eurail dates and times from Serbia but couldn’t find anything.
I’m not sure the top speed but I believe it is somewhere in the lower to mid 100s kph. The newer train that just went in service this month goes faster than that. The ride quality of this older train was ok but a bit tired and due for change, so luckily the new train is finally in service. Will have to do this route again to experience the new train now!
@@GlobalNiko On the night of (11:21pm) February 2023, a head-on collision occurred between two trains south of the Tempe Valley in Greece, about halfway between the Greek villages of Tempi and Evangelismos in the Thessaly region. The collision, involving the InterCity 62 (IC62) passenger train and an intermodal freight train, killed at least 57 people, with an official number of 342 passengers and 10 onboard railway staff on the passenger train[5] and 2 staff on the freight train totalling 354 passengers on both trains.[6] It is the deadliest rail disaster in Greek history. It was discovered that the IC62 passenger train had been allowed to proceed on the wrong track and pass signals at danger despite the presence of the freight train on the same stretch of track.
Italian Railways wanted to put their Pendolino's (in service from Milan to Switzerland) on a new service from Milan to Munich. The trainsets are not allowed in Germany and/or Austria and they are to old for adjustments (doesn't pay off). These trains very to go to Greece for the Athens - Thessaloniki connection.

Really cool! I hope you enjoyed that train ride! Really nice views along the way for sure.
thanks for the useful information , very handy
Only 4.5hrs, not bad. When I did this trip in late ‘80s, it took 8hrs.
It’s supposed to get even shorter then that with the new trains that are allegedly on their way.
They say 3.25 hrs with the new trains. We’ll see lol
Still wonder why the metro doesnt have escalators and you have to carry the luggages climbing the stairs
Many metro stops do have them actually but they certainly need to put them in all, especially this one by the national rail station.
Awesome 💯💯
Never take the taxis infront of the railway station in Thessaloniki. Walk 100m and stop a taxi at Monastiriou street.
And to the right there’s buses too, which is what I took, since I knew where I was going & exactly which bus went there.
What time of year did you make this journey?
Late October

I’m not sure off the top of my head but you can check out the Trainose website for information- tickets.trainose.gr/dromologia/
