@@eetuthereindeer6671 But the main advantage of Java translation is that it is community driven. If you don't like something in some translation, you can just go and suggest your own correction. Crowdin exists, after all.
and scratching the surface of the topic of translations in products of large companies like microsoft and google. they just machine-translate everything and then corrections can happen.
It's wild how Mojang seems to be holding back on alot of the good stuff for the sake of compatibility and consistency across platforms but completely overlook the features like localisation beyond surface level. Bedrock Edition is literally the antithesis of Minecraft. There isn't one thing about it superior to Java Edition. Not its marketplace, nor hilarious bugs, nor the technical burden it puts on Java Edition.
The "bat" thing actually happens quite a lot. That's a surefire sign that they are using some sort of machine translation and not providing enough context.
I remember I tried to volunteer as a translator at Proton (the company behind ProtonVPN and Proton Mail)to translate through Crowdin, and stopped a week or two in because it's impossible to do anything there. Machine translations are already done there and approved without any checking, you can't see at a glance if it's machine translated, there literally isn't any context given to anything at all, with a few rare exceptions, and requests to provide context are ignored
In the German version of Bedrock, they translated "board" (i.e. "enter a boat") to "chalkboard". So every time you look at a boat, a "chalkboard" button pops up. Edit: The German word they used is "Tafel".
I don't play much minecraft, but in the German translation of Baldur's Gate 3 there are/were a lot of mistakes. One of the most glaring ones used to be that weapons can have the property "light", to signify whether you need to be strong to weild them. The German (mis-) translation originally said "licht" (light, like light from the sun). Another one that's still not fixed are the translations for varous Saving Throws, or just "save". Those are still sometimes translated as "Spielstand" ("saved game")
This is what happens when translators are hidden a list of text to translate without any context. Isn't unusual and still happen to this day. On Crowdin, that Minecraft Java Edition uses, the project managers can add descriptions and images to the text to show context, but many project managers just don't do it. English has a lot of words that can mean multiple things, like "board" in this example.

Bedrock is 100% machine translated. Same weird translations occurs in Polish. For example: lightning rod was translated as "laska błyskawic" (rod of lightning, should be "piorunochron"; same translation was used in Minecraft Dungeons), vault block as "skok na skarbiec" (vault heist, should be simply "skarbiec") or chain as "kolczuga" (chainmail, should be "łańcuch" ). Some of them was fixed recently, but still many translations are just messy.
In my experience, the Hungarian translation is AWFUL. Some of my favorites are: -Mangrove *sign* (as in signal) -Item frame is very poetic: Frame of the Element. -The loading hint: ,,you can use a lead on boats” translated lead as the metal. -Other loading hint says that noteblocks make a different sound depending on what block is *under* them, but in the Hungarian version, it says *behind* them. -This has since been fixed, but back when 1.16 was released, for a short time, piglins were translated literally, and called piglets (malacka), while hoglins were called something along the lines of pork-ling, (sertéske, with a diminutive) and ZOGLIN was also translated lierally, to zertéske (zork-ling) I mean come on, Mojang, wtf bro.
Well, Mythbusters proved you can use lead on a balloon, so I assume a lead boat would technically work too, even if the metal doesn't exist in (non-education, at least) Minecraft.
In Russian bundle is called пакет (paket) which basically means PLASTIC BAG! But the funnyest thing is that for some reason all dyed variants for them are called набор (nabor) which means KIT/SET. They all should be called мешочек (meshochek) which literaly means BUNDLE
The Russian translation on Bedrock is also horrible. For example, in "Heart of the sea" from 2018 to 2021 there was a very stupid mistake: one letter in "heart" (сердце-serdtse) was missed, and it turned into "серце-sertse" (it's like writing "hert" in English, I think).
Java Edition translations are managed by community, and Bedrock Edition translations are done by professional translators at Microsoft. It's obvious that Java is always better at translations.

Bedrock translations are notoriously awful. It's commonly theorized that the bedrock team just throws a list of item names into Google translate or some other machine translation service and puts it into the game without checking.
We Java translators are quite fan of name czerwienit for redstone but if we would use it, we will make it for every redstone block and item, not left out like in Bedrock. Anyway, Minecraft Dungeons also used or still use czerwienit name.
i bet it's machine/AI translated. the "bat" thing is pretty obvious. There is no context during translation, and no vetting by someone who speaks the language. I hate this stuff. I'm preferring "English (default)" in any game over some crappy machine-translated garbage. And if you're in the process of translating/crow sourcing that, use a proper tool. AND DO NOT for the love of god just accept machine translations "for the beginning", especially if the approver doesn't have proper language skills. It makes it really hard to distinguish real problems in translations (jokes, puns, references to effects, other items/etc) I have seen crowd sourced projects, where someone just accepted and closed obvious bad translation. just for some statistic or clout or whatever. I love crowd sourcing in general for this, but it can go so bad so quickly
As Minecraft's Korean translation is having so many subtle, sometimes crucial errors, Some Koreans gave up using it.. 😅 Also, using English version is more convenient while typing commands
There is a rumor with this mistake (PROBABLY NOT REAL) So basically in history of war, lot of Korean ladies still wait for Japan gov to apologize for what they did back in war but Japan gov never did. So when you think about it, Korean words, cherry blossom = Japan. See something? (DISCLAIMER: THIS IS SOMETHING COME FROM REDDIT PLS DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY)
It's also worth noting that the English translation has had a long-standing issue since before the official release. It's rare for people in Sweden to need to differentiate between different cephalopods, so they usually just call all of them "bläckfisk." This has lead to a mob which is clearly an octopus being called a squid in English.
Considering the lack of chains on them now, I feel a better renaming option would be floating signs, which also removes the misundertanding of the term "hanging"...
Not really since floating in the air (sväva) and floating on water (flyta) are different things, and things tend to float on water more than being in the air.
I will say something positive about Java Edition’s translation: As a Hebrew speaker the translations aren’t only accurate (for the most part), but there are actually puns and it feels like they’ve done more than just Google translate.
In the Minecraft Java 1.6.4 Uruguay Spanish was hilarious, but you can't try it anymore since it was fixed Easy Difficulty - Asshole Difficulty Chest - Chest (from a person) Rail - The Mules White Wool - "Black Person's" Cum Red Wool - Menstruation Wool Snow Block - Cum Mossy stone bricks - Stone Bricks with snot Grass - Dogshit Snow Layer - Cum Bucket - Balderrama Spawn Ghast - Spawn Gax Spawn Slime - Spawn Mocofluyer Efficiency - Deficiency Silk Touch - Touch of my Balls Egg - Testicle Bedrock - Norris Stone Clay - Excrement Brown Wool - Shit Colored Wool
When you're up against a translation deadline and decide to use Google Translate. Part of me on second thought wonders if there's some subtle cultural linguistic dig (again, maybe why Google Translate picked it up?) at Japan (Cherry Trees being Japanese, and Korea and Japan being historic rivals and someone was having a bad day?). Then again, a quick text in Google translates "Oak hanging" into "Oak Hanger".
Microsoft usually have high demand for quality translations, and I've used Windows in Swedish and the translations are very good. You might not even call them translations, because they are sometimes using different wording to get the meaning across even if it doesn't translate. The menu File is translated as Arkiv (Archive), although this is because File Cabinet is Arkivskåp (Archive Cabinet), but it still shows attention to detail. This is also why you need a separate translation for the menu and for the object. Another example is the Task Manager, where the creator added some fancy displays with custom fonts, but had to change that to a plain font, otherwise it wouldn't localise well.
Thank you for posting that video! The Bedrock Edition translation is very awkward and weird, so I'm working on the translation modification and distributing it as a resource pack. I sent a related inquiry to Mojang, but I didn't see it applied in the end, only saying it would be fixed every time.. Please I hope this issue is well known and the translation issue of Bedrock Edition is fixed. -------------------- 해당 영상을 올려주셔서 감사합니다! microsoft is notoriously bad at translating their products in general. for like, months, the homepage for onedrive had "add a short story" as a translation for the "add new" button in french. their websites are littered with baltent translations mistakes, and i've heard reports of people saying they tend to outsource their translation to the lowest bidder, which seems to check out. that is, if they're not just, running everything throught like, bing translate or something lmao
Reminds me of the inconsistent Albanian translation of Chest. Sometimes they use "Arkë" like Java, other times it's the antiquated term "Sënduk", and in my least favorite case, they use "Gjoks", referring to the body part. "Oak Boat with a Rack", essentially.
I think the answer is obvious, microsoft moved to machine translation for other products (like all new stuff in windows 11 in my language is machine translated and usually makes 0 sense) So I guess bedrock team also using machine translations because it's cheaper.

Lol Inframundo literally means underworld but it doesn't sound good at all, If the Aether was official it would be called Supramundo
todos los nombres de los mobs estan bieeeen qleros
Actually, Underworld fits the Nether. Keep it.
I mean, for a non-Spanish speaker, inframundo sounds cool. If you don't know the English term and look at Spanish in isolation, wouldn't it work?

Someone definitely just Google translated that thing and logged off for the night
About bedrock translations, in Polish redstone dust is called "pył czerwienitu", but the redstone torch is "pochodnia redstone". WHY

As Minecraft's Korean translation is having so many subtle, sometimes crucial errors,
Some Koreans gave up using it.. 😅
Also, using English version is more convenient while typing commands
I onve saw an ad which said “toneelspel” (dutch for play like in theatres) where it actually meant to say “speel” (dutch for play like playing a game)

There is a rumor with this mistake (PROBABLY NOT REAL)
So basically in history of war, lot of Korean ladies still wait for Japan gov to apologize for what they did back in war but Japan gov never did.
I will say something positive about Java Edition’s translation:
As a Hebrew speaker the translations aren’t only accurate (for the most part), but there are actually puns and it feels like they’ve done more than just Google translate.
2:08 I choose to believe Phoenix himself managed to make that noise
*Monika: you left her hanging yesterday*. Flashbacks
In the Minecraft Java 1.6.4 Uruguay Spanish was hilarious, but you can't try it anymore since it was fixed

This reminds me of the time they translated terraria into polish and they translated "seed" as, the "seed" that comes from a man
Maybe the terraria sex update was since the polish translation and we never noticed

If you don’t know what it says, on the thumbnail it says “cherry execution sign”.
The sign’s chains are gone, he’s been set free his god his savior has ransomed him.
I wouldn't doubt that Microsoft would use machine translation to save a few bucks.

Bedrock Edition 번역이 매우 어색하고 이상해서, 번역 수정 작업을 해서 리소스 팩으로 배포하고 있습니다.
Mojang에 관련 문의를 보냈지만, 매번 수정해준다고만 하고 결국 적용되는 것을 보지 못했습니다..
제발 이 문제가 잘 알려져서 Bedrock Edition의 번역 문제가 수정됬으면 좋겠습니다.
That intro was 10/10
cherry execution sign is crazy 😭
That does NOT translate from "hanging signs" 😭
in portuguese it says "sinal de enforcamento" which means hanging sign, but its the other type of hanging....
Smh this is obviously a reference to the update when hanging signs were added, where if hit with a channeling trident, it will becime a guillotine
The new rarest block in Minecraft, the “cherry execution sign”
microsoft is notoriously bad at translating their products in general. for like, months, the homepage for onedrive had "add a short story" as a translation for the "add new" button in french. their websites are littered with baltent translations mistakes, and i've heard reports of people saying they tend to outsource their translation to the lowest bidder, which seems to check out. that is, if they're not just, running everything throught like, bing translate or something lmao
Reminds me of the inconsistent Albanian translation of Chest. Sometimes they use "Arkë" like Java, other times it's the antiquated term "Sënduk", and in my least favorite case, they use "Gjoks", referring to the body part. "Oak Boat with a Rack", essentially.
this is not the time for gallows humour
2:07 that "yay" was everything 😭😭🙏
I think the answer is obvious, microsoft moved to machine translation for other products (like all new stuff in windows 11 in my language is machine translated and usually makes 0 sense) So I guess bedrock team also using machine translations because it's cheaper.
At least fact check
내가 저래서 마크 할 때 영어로만 함

Phoenix executing the wrong sign
Literally unwatchable
1:09 There are translations for Kölsch and Lëtzebuergesch? Nice.
of course, it's bedrock.
It makes sense when you remember back when hanging signs became an electric chair when you throw a trident onto it.
In Ukrainian, on Bedrock, bundles are called "to group", for some reason
Because bundle is also a verb and it was obviously a machine translation
@spacesandwich5593 yeah, that's totally right. Bogged is the weirdest of all translations, I can't remember all those terms in English now(it's late in my country), but it's not like a person who is bogged, but more like just bog
As in the name of the place? Or more like the concept of something being bogged like bog-ness or something
mojang is executing players with a sign
This translation job was not well executed...
In french, in Java, bedrock is called bedrock. In bedrock, bedrock (the block) is called "Soubassement"
