    UPDATE: Want to say thank you dr. Samantha. i was stuck at 105 flexion. Once i started using your techniques to reduce swelling, things really improved. I was just measured at 115 active flex and a whopping 130 passive flex using a belt for max results! Been exercising & stretching twice a day almost every day. Gona keep pushing.

    I had TKR (left) on 1-30-23. I was able bend my knee to 110 at 6 weeks. I started to have inner soreness with some pain that would rotate down my leg. My doctor did X-rays and no problem there…Praise God the pain have stopped and the inner soreness is so much better. But the range haven’t increased. I’m concerned now because there’s soreness and swelling in the back of my knee. No redness and not hot to touch. Been watching videos on how to work on scar tissue which will help with better movement. I hope to get other knee (right) done soon.

    The 2 things that was required to reduce swelling around my TKR: 1). Icing and Building surrounding muscle that pushes the fluid off/around your knee.

    She ain’t lying. Ice & elevation are your 2 new BFFs after TKR.
    Once i started following her advice, swelling significantly reduced.
    Next week im 6mths post op & i still ice & elevate if i have a really busy day!

    I'm 12 weeks out and still struggling with swelling whenever I do much.....whether it's working in the yard or a PT session. I am on warfarin so can't take anti-inflammatories, but I do (and have from the beginning) ice and elevate regularly.

    Had total knee replacement 8 weeks ago and have pain. I have started going to the pool and doing leg exercises in hopes this will help. My doctor wants me to go back to have scar tissue broken up but am terrified to go back for anything. I don't know if the scar tissue will go away with exercise and pool workouts on my own. Have any suggestions??

    How about using a small rolling massager? Will that help to push some fluid out from the knee area?

    I am 2 weeks out from a TKR. It is called a revision but the surgery I had 3 years prior was not a replacement but a Patellofemoral arthroplasty with Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy. It was a nightmare and left me with a painful limp. I am hopeful this replacement will change my life. When I elevate my leg I get terrible pain, the therapist has me balancing on my heel to keep my knee straight. This is intolerable so I don't do it often. I also do not have an ice machine, I am on hard times and can't afford one. I don't understand why insurance can't assist with that. Will it set me back to elevate the leg with more support under it? Thanks!!

      I am doing very well, 6 weeks at 120- 122. Maybe this arthritis started from a car accident that was not my fault years ago . Glad I had this done 😊

    My surgeon does not permit icing knee!🧊 It restricts blood flow and healing !😮 What's your take?

    • @dr.samanthasmith
      @dr.samanthasmith  Рік тому +9

      I think they are doing you a disservice. Ice is a life saver and it’s medicine free pain relief. We don’t want ice on the knee 24/7 but temporary application should be allowed.

      @@dr.samanthasmith Thank you for your response. I'm a year out on both knees, so it's behind me. However, I remember after a PT session, I begged for ice. 🧊 He said, "Shhh....Go ahead and ice!" I did! 😉
