Owning several, I can say, everything you note can easily be remedied and you can actually make a little screamer out of that guitar. The biggest issue 95 percent of the time is getting the neck playable and comfortable to your liking (cutting your fingers on frets and dead spots are the common problems). It can be accomplished with time and patience. Secondly, pick up a Nashville bridge. Hell! They even make Chinese versions of the Nashville bridge for like 10 bucks on Ali-Express (intonation issues all gone once installed). Thirdly, put a bone or graph nut on it. So worth the money in every way!
Sadly, both my American Gibsons (ES175 and a 335) have nasty alignment (drilled) on the tuners. Gibson has a bad history of releasing many guitars over the years with crooked tuners. I once saw a $6500 J200 Cowboy Edition with really, really crooked tuners. I shudder to this day to think someone owns it and is okay with it. There are so many decent affordable tuners you can install yourself that will cover those original holes, then just align to your standards (everyone's standards...straight).
Lastly, a decent set of Semours or you might really splurge and go classic 57s so she can sing!
I totally agree with you regarding the sale and ownership, however. They are for you and you enjoy working on them and messing around with them. So... so long as they stay just yours... or you inform anyone interested ( buying or admiring) that they aren't what they seem to be... all is fine and dandy in the world.

I bought a Chibson Les Paul in Black Friday times and I've been very lucky. Nothing to regret. 230 dollars to get a sort of Standard sound. I own an Epiphone Les Paul Limited Edition, I can recognize a Gibson Standard sound, and nothing sounds kind of Standard in my Epiphone Les Paul. On the other hand, my Chibson really does. It is crafted with real mahogany wood body, rosewood fretboard. one piece body, one piece neck, decent machine tuners. The strings height is pretty decent and playable after a fret leveling. I installed Gibson's Burtbucker 2 and 3 pickups, switched pots, electronics and I can hear that Gib. Standard sound in my Chibson that's not present in my Epi. I think you need to invest more than 170 dollars to get much more from a Chibson. Have fun with you can get and keep rocking on!

There seems to be some confusion and distress among some of you watching this video. So, I thought I would give a friendly acknowledgement of some of the things that seem to be bothering some of you about this video (and I assume all the other Chibson videos out there). First off, it is illegal to sell counterfeit products in the U.S. It is not illegal to purchase counterfeit products for personal use. Anytime that I buy a Les Paul style guitar made overseas (regardless of what name is on the headstock) it is not stealing any business from Gibson, because they are different from a Gibson. For example, when I purchased the ESP EC1000 hanging right next to my Chibson at the moment, I bought it because I decided it would bring me more joy for the money than a Gibson would. In reality, it would be easy to argue that the EC1000 is far closer to being a Gibson than the Chibson is. Given the fact that neither will be leaving my possession, the EC1000 has done more damage to Gibson than this Chibson did. I purchased this Chibson to have an excuse to practice leveling and crowning frets, relicing, and potentially other modifications that I wouldn't have the heart to do to a nice guitar. I made this video because I thought it would be fun to share my experience with the Chibson with others.

Mine was almost flawless apart from some of the frets had lifted slightly but in the middle as it has fret nibs! I done a fret job and swapped out the crap elections and p90s and its actually a nice guitar to play ( its a gold top p90 ) only other thing I might change is the tuners as I hate the green buttons and the bridge to a better quality one. Think mine was £220 ish deliver to my door in 6 weeks. Would I buy another 🤔 yeah to hang on a wall and play now and then but not to play another time.

These Chibsons appear to be a hit and miss with respect to quality control and craftsmanship. I found a Les Paul 60 burst copy (no fret nubs, 60 shaped neck and flamed top) at a thrift store with a cracked neck for $40. I bought it and glued the neck back with some titebond. After changing the tuners, installed a bone nut, replaced the pickups with SD's, and dressed the frets it turned out to be an excellent playing guitar with a very nice sound. When I pulled the pups I noticed a solid maple cap and the distance between the nut and bridge is dead on with a factory Les Paul. The best part is that the headstock face is completely black with no logos. I think some film might be on top to cover what looks like a very faint logo, but the all black headstock is just fine with me.

6:56 that’s a thin binding in the cutaway which exposes the maple cap. It’s a historic feature in gibson’s terms. I think the Gibson Standards and traditionals 2018 and before that didn’t get that. I know for sure the modern/original collection now has the thin binding instead of the thick one

Lol at them _still_ canting the headstock logo. (One day they'll figure that one out.) But that continues to be the easiest way to spot a Chibsum (as I call 'em) from across the room. The lol is because they burn "Made in U.S.A" and a serial # on the back of the headstock and then put the logo on "crooked." (Can you spot the historical irony there?) But if that actually bothers someone, _given the price,_ it's probably time to do an "internal bother check." Of much greater concern are the things one should look into addressing _anyway,_ with any guitar, regardless of price: fret work; neck relief; the nut; possibly changing out pickups and pots, etc.
I own a cheap (Korean-made) Ibanez I bought new(!) for 120 bucks back in the day that came with superior fret work and a wonderfully comfortable neck barrel, and I've come across (and owned) much more expensive guitars in my travels that came with lousy fret work off the shelf. ...A fret rocker is your friend and comes very cheap. (And yeah, I own three Chibsums and love 'em.)

I have 6 Gibsons, from a Historic les Paul R8 to an SGJ and love them all. I wanted an affordable version of an R4 Les Paul so I bought a Chibson since there is not other option. The guitar is a DIY, it has no electronics or a drilled bridge, I was trying to avoid issues. The guitar came in and it is terrible, quality is somewhere between a Maestro and a low level Epiphone. Many folks think that putting better parts on these guitars will get them to Epiphone level and that is just not the case. The body on mine is 100% basswood with the grain runniing diagonally, 2-piece with a veneer (you'd think they would pick a good looking veneer but nope) they did use nitro as I requested but it has lots or runs and thick spots. The neck heel is completely wonky. I knew the guitar would not be great but I am underwhelmed. I paid $275 thinking I was getting something upgradeable but that's not the case.

But my Guitar out of the Box was really good :D
The only thing i had to do was level the frets. I even checked the Pickups for the Epiphone Logo and as i took em out i saw that mine had a real Maple Top NOT a Veneer which is insane for about 300 Bucks...
Definetely will change the Mechanics because after about an hour it slowly starts to go out of tune and i wanna use it as my backup on stage.
But yeah, i think it depends how u communicate with the seller. Some speak bad English and some understand you well and ask if they can change something or if you have any extra requests. I was fairly lucky...

If I were to sell my real Gibson Les Paul I'd have to state to the buyer "This isn't a real gibson les paul, its got all the design flaws fixed." That's why I consider it accurate and nice that they stamp "MADE IN USA" on the chibsons, knowing we're going to put more work into it here than they did there. Similar to how every guitar shop guitar will have the nut and action too high, that's so you can set it up to your preference and don't need to add material back if you wanted a higher action say for slide guitar or whatnot. But the plastic they use is very cheap. Also Chibsons don't come with that abysmal nitro finish so that's always in the Chibson's "pro" column.

Part of your intonation problem (saddle travel) can be compensated by recutting the net. It almost sounds like your nut is cut with the string termination/contact point too far towards the tuners.
99% of the time the Chibons bridge posts are located/drilled with a template during manufacture.
I’ve worked on many of the Chibsons and IMO the main issue is too green of wood used for the neck and low quality (soft) fret wire used.
That said I do have a couple that after much work are really pretty great guitars for their cost .
Like I said, recut your nut with the purpose of shifting the string contact point as far towards the bridge as possible.

That guitar isn’t as bad as he thinks.

If its only a bit of space to get the zero in, it probably won't foul the other frets too much, or at least a way to split the difference.

Then about 4 months ago I bought a Ace Frehley chibson from eBay and it actually was coming from the USA and only took a week to get here. This has been my dream guitar since I was a kid and I wanted one so bad I didn’t really care how crappy it was. But turned out it’s actually a pretty great guitar for $300. I need to replace the nut, and tighten some things. Pickups aren’t half bad, still want to replace them. But my overall experience with chibson is pretty good, and a great way to own your dream guitar.

It is funny because 90% of the things you think are related just to Chibson actually happens with real Gibson not to far away, miss alignments of the tuners, dis intonation issues because the tuners are basically something that is better to replace or the bridge is not what you expect in a big brand, fretwork had improved over the time but you really will be surprised about how bad it could be specially on tribute models same thing about the binding work sometimes it is awful, the nut is something that you need to upgrade. I don't know man I basically had the same issues on two original Gibsons a tribute DC ans a Les Paul Studio, I think is something related with validation bias but the real value of a Gibson is the people given value, and with it I don't want to sound like a Gibson hater (because personally I own 2 Gibson guitars that really love and are not precisely entry level Gibsons as the Tribute and Studio I talked about both are reissues of high level models) but the brand have its opportunities, so I think is better to care about your playing before giving a lot of attention on the instrument, obviously a great guitar is more enjoyable, but the best guitarists I know can play greatly even with a toy guitar

I really enjoy people buying $100 guitars and complaining about fret ends, pickups etc. IMO they're pretty good for the money you pay. If it was an USA made guitar, you couldn't even buy a 2inch toy for that money, or if you buy a guitar for the price of a real Gibson from China, it will make real Gibson a joke compared to it. They can get parts very cheap and labor is cheap there. So it's dumb to complain what you get for that price.

Give me a straight neck,Cheap frets can suck, but easily remedied. All the rest is lying around doing nothing.I need to buy an FRX for my SG and that is going to be more than the cost of that whole guitar.I would like to get Gold top P90s one and experiment With tremolo routing.I can put the bridge location where it belongs and don't have to cut up my real 1986 Les Paul. But SGs are so thin FRT wont work, but I have 3 of them.Or at least TP-6 Bridge system to lock down everything. They have adjustable roller Bridges for offset systems like yours.I put everything that does not lock down out of tune.Give me anything I will put it out.Because some people have no idea how shitty they sound out of tune.I do not care how well you play.Know a guy and after I put his TP-6 he said he sounds better,I said you have no idea,to me it is like scratching a chalkboard.Trying to play with an out of tune guy is a trainwreck and makes your playing sound out.He bought a garbage 450$ SG epiphone ,but loves it now.Pretty stupid to run a whole production of bodies and them all not measured out correctly.Bought a 7 string Floyd,Great tremelo for a copy but the bridge screw location screwed up.I just use it for chugging low end stuff.Shame the dam neck is straight and 24 frets.Sounds great with a Invader in it.Ready to relocate the bridge next string change.
