Good job man. I used to do this to cheapie squiers/epis. I don't bother anymore. When I get a cheapie now, I just do a detailed setup, which just costs time and a set of strings. If it needs a jack or something, I'll change that one bad part. I stopped fully modding out cheap guitars because it's just not worth it to me any longer. I just set it up and enjoy it as is.
To re-string without scratching the guitar, pull all of the strings through the tailpiece away from the guitar, then put the tailpiece in place and put the string across the body over a cloth.
I bought a relic Gary moore copy.took 2 months strings buzzed.played them 10 months before changing to ernie ball 10s .is it anywhere close to my 57' junoir from Kalamazoo or 62 strat. No.even my sammick made epi dot 335 much better player. The 40s,50s 60s and now Japanese Ibanez is now valuable stay locked up.have fun and rock.
I’m curious about the final cost of the fake guitar (i.e., purchase price, upgraded parts, luthier labor, etc.). The final cost of the fake guitar can be as much as the cost of the real Gibson yet the fake guitar has absolutely zero resale’s value while the real Gibson has great resale’s value.
Resale is not good for a Chibson but considering the initial cost if about $500, $500 in parts and $500 (at most) foe service work...$1500 is a good deal. A real Gibson is twice that amount at least.
@@ManotickGuitarTech I can’t understand why people spent $1500 for a fake guitar. You can get a real Gibson; a used LP standard should be within $1500-$1800.
Chibsons still are likely to not last into your old man years but maybe they will if you're lucky. Better chances with a legit american standard fender strat or something hardy like that but if you want a gibson look, but don't want to spend a arm and a leg, and you fully well know that the guitar isn't the GREATEST of quality? Meh phuck it lol go for it. I own like 30 fancy guitars but honestly... I got a few that are only like 300 bucks and many of them are baller af : ) Just got a gretsch acoustic rancher for 350. Made in Indonesia. Sounds and plays great lol. Might as well say it's the best acoustic guitar I've ever played? So sometimes a cheapo is a keepo : ) Sometimes a cheap made guitar can still phuckin rock! So if you got the spare cash? Go for it lol phuck witha chibson. Lol I'm about to that's why I'm here hehe. Got my eye on a sg les paul custom.
$800 worth of work + probably around 300 to buy initially + $100 bucks or so for a knock off case = $1200 in so far. All that and it still looks cheap because of cheap looking plastics/binding, wonky looking headstock inlays/logo/truss rod cover and as he showed in earlier video the finish on the metal peeling away at the backside of the bridge and that is not to even mention that bizarre truss rod that is sunk abnormally deep in the neck. Maybe it will stay in tune and not have intonation issues, but I doubt it. It may have been just me but in the earlier videos it also looks like the original fret wire was cut poorly and short in places. I'm also sure that hidden under that paint is complete garbage wood. I do know for that kind of money you can buy an outstanding guitar that isn't a Gibson or a nice used Gibson. Plenty of great used Studio's sell for around $1000 to $1200. I actually bought a used Standard earlier this year for $1800. It has one of the most outstanding tops I've ever seen and sounded good/played great from the day I got it. It will also hold its resale value unlike the Chibson where it's unlikely you will ever get your money back after all the money spent in fixes/upgrades and is actually illegal to sell. In any event, I'm sure if the guy who owns the one in this video goes to sell it he is looking at around $700 best case with it more than likely going for around $500.
@@Somenite detailed answer-wow! I agree, this was not the nicest Chibson I have seen and I think you are better off buying a really nice Epiphnone and modding that up... better bones to work with. 😁
Almost every guitar can benefit from a compensated nut. Here's a test for your guitar: tune it, intonate it at the 12th fret; then, play a fretted note at 7th and then the octave at the 19th... they probably are not in tune. A compensated nut would help that.
@@ManotickGuitarTech If memory serves me, John Suhr commented on this in a video and said he didn't do the open to 12th, but like 3rd to 15th due to something like this. Also, the nut is an integral part of the setup. If the nut slots are too high, you're gonna bend out of tune, soo huge! Thanks for the videos, love them!
For sure - check the first fret as well - almost every factory guitar will not be in tune perfectly at the first fret. I hope you have subbed to my channel?

Best to buy used guitar with scratches, dents, and dings so that a few new scratches, dents, and dings don’t make it look any different.
