    The tall cabinet idea is genius. I just got a set of three and will keep that trick in mind!

      Let me know if you need more details on how I did it. It was pretty easy. However I never moved the lock. I don’t need it.

      @@gregvi if you don't mind can you give some insight on how you did it? I would love to know details! You make these look so effortless!!

      @gregvi did you share the tips for moving the middle shelf up? I was actually thinking about dividing the bottom into a taller section on right side and shelves on the left half.

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      @@dpena842 That would be a tricky modification and would require building a custom insert out of your own material while somehow preserving the integrity of the cabinet provided by the middle shelf. All I did was drill some new holes for the fixed shelf pins a little higher up so that I had room to store tall things like golf clubs, pop-up tent, chairs, etc. I didn’t even bother moving the lock hole which was aligned with the old fixed shelf location. Good luck

    Was just checking these cabinets out online, and was worried about two things: the relatively shallow depth (was looking for 24" rather than 21") and having to do a hack so that taller items can be stored. You ran into both of these issues! Not sure I'm going to pull the trigger on these if they can't hold some of the the things I need to store.

      modifying the location of the fixed middle shelf is an easy fix. you have to drill four holes and move the insert that the pins screw into. As you can see from my video, I have plenty room to store tall items like golf clubs, pop-up tents, etc. As for depth, can't help you there. without the back panel, the max item depth is 20-1/2". Their base cabinets are deeper but I assume you are looking for tall cabinets.

    Did you say you “wall hung” them? I noticed the legs are on them. I messaged the company and asked about wall hanging options. They said a kit for wall hanging is extra and that it would not be warrantied, and the weight limit would be drastically reduced. Just wondering how the wall mounting went, and would you do it without the front legs? Thanks.

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  3 роки тому +2

      I used two front legs only. No back legs. I agree with company. If you wall mount only with no frront legs I probably wouldn't put anything heavy inside. It's a 21" cabinet... you can't cantilever stuff out that far without major structural support

      @@gregvi How EXACTLY did you Wal mount them? Did you DIY that portion or is it something that they sell?

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  3 роки тому +1

      @@chadhughes9963 they do have a wall mount kit but it is a simple DIY. There are three supports along the back. The top one is cut at a 45° edge. I cut a matching board edge at 45° and screwed it to the wall. The cabinet simply dovetails in. Take a close look at 2:25 mark. You can see my board mounted to wall

    Can you install without the handles and instead use push to open hardware? Are the holes for the handles predrilled?

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      All the holes are pre-drilled including the ones for the handles, the lock, and all the hardware.

    Could you put the back panel on the outside rather than inside to avoid losing depth? Looking at these for an unfinished block garage

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      No reason why you couldn't. Obviously, you would see the spanners/wall plates, since normally the two panels on are top of the spanners and covering them up. (not behind them) The spanners have a little starter hole for the screws that hold on the back panels. You could make your own, if you even need them at all.
      Lastly, the only reason I didn't use the back panels was to accommodate the black and yellow storage bins that you can get at Costco.

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      Actually, I just realized that if you plan to wall hang the cabinets you won't be able to put the panels behind the spanners. The bracket on the wall would block the back panel. That is why I painted my wall.
      You could use all four legs and if you really wanted to anchor them to the wall you could put anchors through the spanners, foregoing the bracket design. Take a look at my other video at the 11:00 mark if I'm not being clear. you can view it here ua-cam.com/video/CDzJ41ofGJc/v-deo.html

    I’m attempting to move the fixed middle shelf upwards like you did. What’s the best method for removing the metal inserts that the dowels screw into? Are they glued into the hole, or just friction fit?
    Thanks!

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      It’s been a few years but as I recall, it just required me drilling some new holes in the side panels for the metal dowels. I’ll check when I get home.

      I just checked my cabinet and I simply drilled new 8 holes for the metal dowels for both the back spanner(e) and the middle shelf (i). 4 new holes in each side panel. You can see the metal dowels in the 5:23 mark in this video. ua-cam.com/video/CDzJ41ofGJc/v-deo.html
      BTW, that video was also slightly incorrect in that I had the back spanners flipped backwards. The cams should be facing outward, not inward... something that I explain at the 11:00 mark. Good luck.

    • @gregvi
      @gregvi  Рік тому

      One last note... your cabinet won't lock unless you also move the location of the keylock to match the new location of the middle shelf. Locking was not important to me so I left it alone.
