it's a really strange coincidence that the first comment I come across is yours. As like you, my wife just forwarded me this video as I am facing the same issue in my garage/workshop.🙂
I did! This solves a major problem for fabric storage in my quilt studio. I keep my fabric in 25 qt. Sterilite totes because I live out in the boonies and occasionally have mouse visitors. Your shelf unit instructions are very clear and simple enough for this 67 year old granny to accomplish by myself. Thank you so much!!!
I did. This is exactly what I need! After literally decades of trying to make do with various commercially available shelving units which always end up leaving lots of unusable space (read: space for piling things up), I really need a way to store all my shop equipment and accessories protected from sawdust and organized in such a way as to be able to find what I need, when I need it. No more buying multiples of things because I can't find what I need. As a matter of fact, this is also a great way to store all my sewing stuff, craft supplies, and even books!
“I did “ the wife and I were just about adding shelves to our back porch to store all her junk. I mean her treasures 🤔 this would be perfect 👍 thanks 🙏 for sharing your experience
If you are like me, I move every couple of years. This makes moving easer as I can just role them into the moving truck and roll them out to the new place.
I did! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. A two for one! My husband gets back some room in the garage and I get storage and workshop space!! Thank you for the clear instructions and details. Looking forward to getting started.
I did. It's like you saw every other garage storage videos and said, "Hold my beer." I imagine a lot of people who watch this video immediately begin working on their existing storage shelves and covert them to what you did.
Hold my beer... 😂. Thank you! Just thinking outside of the box and making awesome things better. I hope it helps with those those storage issues we all have. Now back to my beer.
"I did" Always nice to see how you can solve problems a different way with common tools, and cheaper wood and explain it to the DIYers out there. Love your channel and I have been a subscriber for over a year now.
Great idea, I’m a carpenter, and have a client with tons of stuff piled in their garage, and have a office for 2. Mini split system. Nice space, just no more room. This is perfect timing!
I did ! I was looking at storage options last weekend. A 4' x 6' x 18" was $ 180.00 and flimsey. I enjoy the projects you produce and I like watching someone else work for a change, it's usually me. Thank you !
This is my plan for my wood shop/stained glass studio. Thank you for sharing the plans. I made it to the end and will be watching it multiple times to get these right.
I did. Newbie (extreme part time due to traveling for work) here. Thanks for breaking everything down like you. Your explanations of why you did this or that is greatly appreciated!
I did. I'm in the military so I move around quite a bit. Finding storage solutions that can move when I move, and not get broken in the process, has been challenging. Thans for the idea and great video.
I DID I did! Love the channel, details of your explanations, and your creativity, Mr. Peach. I don't know how long I have watched or subscribed but it has been quite a while and it has been fun to see the growth of the channel. I had to share an idea that came to me - inspired by your design. You could actually add it to your current design since you used screws for assembly. If you added a plywood or OSB vertical backer to the ends of the cabinets on the inboard side of the legs, then you could add hinges and a latch to the end caps to make a narrow hidden cabinet. You would be making use of the 3+ inches of vacant space at the ends of the cabinets and woukd allow for much more vertical tool storage. I hope Ethan realizes what a gift he is getting by being able to work with you and learn from a hands on perspective. What an opportunitt! Keep up the good work.
I did. And you're killing me dude.. i already have enough projects to do and now you've just solved my holiday decor storage problem and now i need to build this lol. Also big props for not just doing some ho hum project and then taking a sponsorship for one of those big levrack systems. Don't get me wrong they look awesome but most people aren't going to justify a $5k racking system. This is something almost eveyone could do for like $100 or a ton depending on how many the build.
@@AscDrew yea that was probably a little optimistic but again it does depend on how big and fancy you build them. That was also only for one shelf too. I bought some wood from home depot a couple days ago for an unrelated project but it was comparable to building one of these shelves and wasn't much over $100. The quality of wood is absolute crap these days. The 2x4s were almost decent but the 2x2, 1x4, and 1x4s were one step above bark. They almost qualified as hockey sticks and twisted stair spindles, were cracked, or had big gouges and chunks missing.

Just what I need but I don't need the sides although they finish the project nicely. I have totes stacked 4 high and am constantly lifting them off of each other. This is so smart.
This is a fantastic idea. I think a lot of us forget the vertical spaces in our garages and houses that get overlooked for storage and become wasted space. Thanks Matt!
I did. Sure this would be fantastic for my husband’s wood shop, but I see applications for it in the house, in my hobby room, in the greenhouse, etc. This video has been saved and shared. And I subscribed! And I don’t even work in wood. Thank you for a great idea.
Another amazing build, Matt. This is slick, I may build something like these for mama's fall, Easter, Spring and Christmas decor in her she shed since this is where most of our totes are. We currently have metal shelving but we could actually use use something like this.
I always do!!! I don't want to miss any "Pearls of Wisdom"! Besides sometimes you throw in some funny stuff in the end!! Great video...thanks!! Blessings!!!
This looks like an excellent storage concept for so many of us who are renting houses. These can be made to fit both our garage/shop and a 20' UHaul truck as well as whatever bins we use already so when we have to move we are not leaving behind our storage.
Um, actually your measurements are quite a bit off. It is not only 29 square feet, it is in reality 58 square feet; you must always leave room to pull them out!
@@akassasin5768 Another case of TD;DR... Here is the part you missed: "...it is in reality 58 square feet; *you must always leave room to pull them out!"*
When did he say that you don't have to leave room to pull the shelves out. You've completely missed the point I made which is that the shelves take up the space he said. He never implied or said that the shelves don't need more space to move them. You just wanted to be like "um actually" 🤓🤓 I've never cut a piece of wood which is why your measurement is totally off.
I did. Love this build so much that can be done with it. Been doing woodwork for on new houses for around 40 years, at 66-year-old still learning about wood working.
I Did. I built a set like these but not mobile, for garage storage many years ago. They've been there 35 years and are still going strong. I did only use single 2x4 and lap jointed them. I used wood from pallets that took way more work to salvage than to build the shelves.
I did! And I was already planning on doing something similar but they were just going to be shelving built on the floor. Putting it on casters with the plywood is pure genius!
I did. I had made some roller cabinets same basic format - it tripled my floor space (better, but still too small for cutting sheet goods, still using the driveway - lol). I used 2x6 on the bottom because of some heavy stuff (chain hoist & chains, house and car jack stands, etc). My first try, didn't think about the weight and the bottom 2x4's sagged - thought it would break if I had to roll it out on to the driveway (slight bump/gap). Love the ball rollers idea - sometimes the units, and the containers, get a tiny bit cattywapus. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.... unfortunate that Ethan bugged out...
I did Matt and this video just solved three issues for me. I just retired after 47 years of a career. So now I am in the purge of all the crap one collects over the years. I am also an artist so there will be a set of these for art supplies, another in the garage for tools and parts, and finally another as I am planning on converting a 24 foot box truck into a stealth RV set up. This organizes so much stuff effectively I love it. The biggest benefit is the support of the shelves will make the totes last way longer without cracking and such. Thanks so much for the tutorial.
I did. Been trying your builds for 3 months now... Have learned a lot from your videos. I appreciate how you show your work, so a beginner can do it too.
I did!! And it was well worth it!! Thankyou! I recently purchased a 30ft container that was a mobile shoe store. I've been researching ways to organize my hew space. French cleats, Trusscore walls, etc. Your plan is genius! It will work perfectly in my container. Cheers!! Hope you find a dependable side-kick! It's a game changer!!
I did. It is so helpful the way you breakdown each build and show how to problem solve issues that occur during the build!! I don't know how anyone doesn't watch to the end; they are missing out.
I did! And I will!! This storage solution is perfect and the build is straightforward enough for a wannabe woodworker like me (65 yr old woman) to do it! The hardest part of this build looks like it will be getting the materials to my house! Thank you, Matt. So happy to be a subscriber!!
I did! Finally a tutorial that doesn’t rely on specialist tools and years of carpentry experience. I’m confident I could build a set of these over several weekends. Thanks for sharing a simple and clever design.
I did. This is perfect timing as I have two men coming over today to help me organize my shop/studio. I think I will pick up a bunch of 2x4s before they get here. Thanks so much for this great idea.
I did. Brilliant! Once again Matthew nails it with another practical and useful idea that can apply to nearly everyone. Who doesn't need more storage space in the shop, but can't afford giving up wall space. Headed out to the shop now to start measuring. Thanks Matthew. By the way, I was in the market for a new table saw and was just about to pull the trigger on the S.S. I watched you video on the Harvey and never looked back. That 4hp beast is now set up in my shop and cuts so square and clean and can joint off those edges. Thanks man!
I made it to the end ! This is the exact kind of thing I'm looking for to complete my Shop build-out ! Thanks ! And for _me_ the detailed and calm & clear narration style helping me to know your THINKING as part of the process , really helps !
I did. Actually considering this for my wife's sewing/quilting area. Allows tons of storage with easy access and she can hang templates on the finished panels.
I did... I appreciate the invite on storage, lol! I moved into a house that literally has no storage and a basement that keeps getting water in it. I am disabled and get a small check, so I am trying to figure out what to do. I love the smalls ideas that you have. I am trying to budget and create more storage at the same time. Again, thank you for the offer on storage and the videos you put out. God Bless.
I did. I am a very novice woodworker but watching you makes me believe that I can do these projects. Now to find time between baseball and bowling practices and games to do these projects.
I did. I made some dollies to stack my totes on, like Ron Paulk uses, but almost immediately got tired of stacking/unstacking totes to get to what I needed. And what I needed was ALWAYS on the bottom of the tote stack. I like this idea better, plus I can hang stuff (saw tracks, etc) on the outside. Thanks for a good idea!
I did: I've built a number of storage racks for our bins/totes before and they work well, but this is another level. I'll be starting tomorrow taking them apart and rebuilding them based on your plans. The problem with mine is that the totes overhang which makes it difficult to put the racks side-by-side like yours. This is going to be an awesome upgrade!
I DID! Planning to "customize" your idea to suit my needs by using materials I have on hand from my hurricane damaged fence. I will be using notched 4x4 for the legs, and fence pickets for the sides and face. Wish me luck....
I do the same thing with rolling wire shelves at home. I store everything from food to clothes to a tiny mobile kitchen in a space the size of a walk in closet.
I did! I absolutely love this idea. We built a 24 × 24 storage shed for all my seasonal decorations and for my slabs of wood to dry out. This storage idea will definitely come in hand to help maximize my space as I have 68 ex totes just for Christmas, not counting my bigger decorations. I leave assembled
I did! My hubby and I were just talking about how to store my sewing and craft supplies. This would be awesome! There would even be ample space for hanging yardsticks and cutting boards on the outsides of the cabinets. Thanks for the amazing video and idea!
I discovered you yesterday morning and have watched, I would estimate, about half or more of your videos 'tiI the wee hours of this morning. I have been interested in building and creating things since I was a child. Over my life this has taken many forms. I appreciate that you explain your many tips for the beginner. I really like your organization ideas as well as the simple ideas for creating inexpensively and selling for a decent profit. Really just wanted to tell you I appreciate what you are doing. It is very valuable to me and, I'm certain, to many others. So, thank you.
I did. I have shelving units that I recovered from an old Linens and Things store. These have grooves in the frame work with white peg board filling in the verticle spaces.
I have an extremely limited space in my shop but I have to store quite a bit of stuff and make it accessible right now. I've got sewing machines all over the of the floor of my shop that need to be serviced and fixed. This will definitely help me organize a lot of that and increase my space. Thank you. Don't know that. I'll enclose mine
I did! Being in a townhouse complex, my garage is pretty tiny and the floor is sloped towards the street. My units would have to be flat against the wall and lengthwise. Shimming the carts to make them level is going to be the tricky part. Love the solution for storage and wall space.
I did, but no need to respond. Sending positive vibes and gratitude for your work. I used a similar build to add high volume closet storage in a small house. The 24” width is perfect for hanging clothes and with two of them, you essentially get a walk-in closet without losing that space normally committed to “walking”.
I did . Great idea, BUT you need a lot of room in your shop or garage in order to pull the units out to access the bins. It’s not for a shop that doesn’t have the extra open space to be able to pull out the cabinets. But it sure is a great idea if you’re in a larger space. And such an easy build . Thanks for all you do for the woodworking community.
I did. I am working on several cabinets. This idea will come in handy for additional storage. I will have to make mine so that it can go out of the back door. On nicer days I like to work outside.
I did. We just bought a new build condo and moved in 3 weeks ago. We have over 60 of the large Rubbermaid storage containers. I built wall shelves in the previous house and took too much wall space. This plan is perfect! Why didn’t I think of this? Anyway thanks so much, as I bought some lumber but hadn’t started building yet. I am changing the original plan and will build many of these units as we need, a few at a time until I have all we need. Thanks, your videos have really been great and inspiring. I have to rebuild a work shop in our new basement and you’ve given me some good ideas. Keep up the good work and consider ideas for a basement small area workshop layout and dust collection system in you next videos this year. 😊👍👍
I did. My husband and myself did something similar but they are attached to the ceiling joists, but I really like the way this would add another shelving unit to my storage room.
I did. My tiny townhouse garage has been the storage area I didn't want it to be and it's a disaster. I had been thinking of putting up shelving affixed to the wall, but I'm so excited to find this video. I'm going with this!! You're a genius!
I DID....This is a brilliant idea and I will be building this storage unit. I am an ebay seller that uses totes to store my sale items. This beats stacking the totes on top of each other...Thanks again for a great video.
I did. I am already getting the list together to start this project. Your channel has been a great inspiration and started down the woodworking path not just for a hobby but DIY and a side business. Even my wife loves your videos. Keep them coming Matthew.
I wish I had this video 2 years ago. Now Im going to dismantle my current shelving system, repurpose the wood, and rebuild these type shelves. Great video
I did! And perfect timing! I was just about ready to make storage shelves next to the ones under my basement stairs. This solves lack of storage into extra space perfectly! The plywood sides with handles will be perfect for storing out shared tools. Thanks so much for sharing. Love the picket fence videos too!!
I did. Man this is definitely on-point for a solution to my storage needs for woodturning supplies and pre-cuts. Seeing how you used the outside to hang things on gave me and idea to also look at using the little bit of space between the 2x4s or the end as well. I'm thinking of of maybe inclosing the ends on the inside instead of the outside and then using some pegboard to hang things or even using the small space for shelving of stains and other cans / bottles. Thanks for sharing this content. Good stuff.
I did. What an excellent idea! We currently have wood industrial shelving in our garage that needed to be braced from the back so they weren't like Jell-O. And they take up too much space. I'm going to use this instead when we relocate our shelves to a different area of the garage. Thanks for the good work!
I did. I made very similar units a few years ago,but mine didn’t have wheels nor have the plywood sheeting which is a great idea ! I’ll make them again adding your extra touches, thank you .
I did. I actually saw the plans in your store and bought them. I'm grateful that you also did this video. I can't wait to get building. Thanks Matthew.
I did. This is brilliant, we now plan to make some of these and use them as room dividers with extra storage for our Makers Space. The extra space on each end would be a great place to put small shelves to store cans of spray paint!
I did. For years I've been wanting to build something like you'd see in a pharmacy or long term document storage, shelving on movable tracks. Your design is the absolute winner! & not just for garages 🙂 Thank you & yes, I subscribed. Looking forward to seeing what else you've posted.
I did - i really like this idea. I have an awkward corner in my garage and the shelf space just doesn't work well. I'll try to give this a go. Thank you for a thorough explanation!
I DID!!! about 1/2 way thru i came up with a idea for another section to store tools and hidden away when not in use - just insert with peg board on inside
I did! I watched Lincoln St Woodworks and wanted to make his "storage unit upon which a useful tool rests." He meant his miter saw. I have some early cabinets and shelves on a long wall with my miter saw in between (Shop Nation) but I want the wall space for a jointer, and then your video popped up! Sometimes the algorithm works. So I'm making my first unit as I type. Thanks for the suggestion!
I did. I have had this concept in my head for years. Only my frame is wire shelving units that I have. I am excited to see my similar idea alive and well built. I guess I should put the wood panels and castors on.
I did! I bought the plans and I'm so excited to build this for my garage. Living in Florida with no basement and a virtually unusable attic this will be the PERFECT solution and an excellent project for my husband and me! I showed him the beginning and he said "Send me that link." We're so tired of stacking totes five high and having to take four off to get to the one at the bottom. Such a pain. This will be great!! Plus our garage will look so much nicer and I want to build one unit for extra household supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc. This is genius!
I did. I’m about to be starting a storage project in my garage which doubles as my shop. The idea to cover the sides of these units with plywood to be able to use it as wall space is awesome. There’s a good chance I’ll be going this route
I did. Love it! I've been looking for ideas to compress & organize my family's stuff (including seasonal clothes, bulky winter gear, Christmas decorations, etc.) into a storage shed. Now you got me reconsidering a corner of my garage!
I did. Thank you for the beginner friendly explanations. I’m always looking for videos for my students showing how other woodworkers explain similar processes. Love the solution, simple and clean!
I Did. I stumbled across your channel at the perfect time! We are currently working on reorganizing the garage and I am finally getting space to build my own little workshop. This channel has been a wealth of knowledge for me personally. and full of great ideas!

I have a request on how to do a domino table

Right!!!? When Peach said wall space, I was in complete awe and amazement. 0 loss of wall space!
This is my plan for my wood shop/stained glass studio. Thank you for sharing the plans. I made it to the end and will be watching it multiple times to get these right.
Awesome! Thank you! Enjoy.
Thanks for watching and Thank you for your service.
Awesome idea! Even more storage! Thanks for sharing... and thanks for supporting the channel!
Great idea! We are definitely going to incorporate that into our system. Thanks for sharing whoever you are 😂
Aww. I just had that idea myself. It would be a great place for storing spray cans, caulk, or anything else that gets lost at the back of the cabinet.
Thank you. These ideas usually stem from honey do lists. Lol. Good luck.
$100?? You haven’t priced lumber in 3-4 years! Lol

That's exactly what I thought...so versatile.
I did. I want to replace my shelves in the shed with these. Thanks for another great video.
Nice! It made a huge difference in our garage so hopefully it will for you too. Enjoy! 😀
😂 thanks so much
This looks like an excellent storage concept for so many of us who are renting houses. These can be made to fit both our garage/shop and a 20' UHaul truck as well as whatever bins we use already so when we have to move we are not leaving behind our storage.
I did. My wife just asked me to build new storage for crafting, sewing, arts, etc. stuff in our garage! I think this is it! Thank you
I did. Enjoying both your channels. Keep those videos coming. Loved the rabbit snare video.
Thank you! We are having fun with it 😃
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking if you happen to have any 2A needs let me know.
Um, actually your measurements are quite a bit off. It is not only 29 square feet, it is in reality 58 square feet; you must always leave room to pull them out!
"All that storage you just saw is now compressed down to 29 square feet."
No he wasn't off on the measurement ACtuAlLy.
@@akassasin5768 Another case of TD;DR... Here is the part you missed: "...it is in reality 58 square feet; *you must always leave room to pull them out!"*
He never said that you didn't have leave room to pull the shelves out.
Does your car take up 100,000 miles because "yoU NeeD room tO DrIve tHe CAr."
🤡
Awesome, thank you!
I did. Thanks, my wife built some 2x4 shelves that are mostly unusable, now I can take them apart and make usable shelves. Thank you.
Thanks man!
Thank you and glad to help!
I did !!. My daughter and I were just talking about making something for our containers. This will be a perfect solution.
I DID - concrete just this week is being poured for a garage - exactly what we need - great instructions and info - going to start planning the space
I did. This is just what I needed. Not only can I use the design in my garage, but it also works for the under-stair trolleys I have in mind.
I Did. I'm super happy that I decided to pour a nice floor in my shop because I'm doing this! Thank you so much. Going to get those plans.
Thanks.
I did. Loved how functional and compact your design is without compromising space or storage.
Will do! Thank you both for watching!
I did too. Very interesting. I wish had been able to watch this 4 years ago when I purchased stationary shelves for my garage! Excellent idea!
Thanks
I did. I watch all of your videos at least 2 times all the way thru. This is a genius plan to store and hide stuff.
Thanks
I wish I had this video 2 years ago. Now Im going to dismantle my current shelving system, repurpose the wood, and rebuild these type shelves. Great video
Thanks
Me too!
I did. The trick (which you have solved) is getting the right size totes to not waste space. Thank you.
It was easy to make it to the end. I have so many places where this storage solution is going to make my life easier and more organized. Awesome!
I did. This is brilliant, we now plan to make some of these and use them as room dividers with extra storage for our Makers Space. The extra space on each end would be a great place to put small shelves to store cans of spray paint!
I did.
Great solution for maximising storage in a small area. I like that you can also hang things you use every day on the outside.
I did!
No question, just wanted to show love for the channel.
Thank you Matthew!
Yep, This system is what I’ve been looking for. I would like to try this system for books.
I did, twice. Still haven't started building yet, but I have 2 garages and a workshop that I plan to use this storage system.
I did.
I did! Twice! I love this and will definitely be using it to store a very large board game collection. Thanks for sharing this!
I Did. I stumbled across your channel at the perfect time! We are currently working on reorganizing the garage and I am finally getting space to build my own little workshop. This channel has been a wealth of knowledge for me personally. and full of great ideas!
I did. This is so simple, but I have never seen anyone post! Thank you! I believe this can be reused for basement and/or pantry use as well.
