I really miss Rich but he did say things like this over and over in these types of videos. Dude lived his life on his terms and spoke the truth. Never thought he'd be taken from us so soon...RIP brother.
I agree with a lot of what Rich is saying but I disagree about competing. If Lee Labrada, Rich Gaspari, and Dave Palumbo never competed, they wouldn't have had the bodybuilding resume to sell the products they do. I agree that every bodybuilder should be using every social media application out there to get their name out. One of the benefits of chasing a trophy is that you will get photos, footage, and make contacts at the Bodybuilding Competitions that can be shared on facebook, instagram, etc. Doing this in conjunction with what Rich is saying is probably the way to go. Another great vid :)
Pretty much everything Rich just said applys the same in many sports. Its definately the same in the surfing industry where a panel of judges subjectively decide a tournement outcome. The ones making the big bucks are usually well marketed personalities and modeling.
Most bodybuilders either work a full time job as personal trainers or own their own businesses relevant to the industry (gyms, supplement companies, marketing an production company for fitness models, etc.). It's very difficult to provide for yourself from sponsors who ship you 10lbs of protein and free t shirts every month, that honestly doesn't pay the bills. It's not an easy path, but if you meet the right people and are fortunate to have INCREDIBLE and I mean INCREDIBLE genetics (ulisses jr, steve cook, rob riches, greg plitt) you can make sufficient income from sponsors and doing cover shoots. Again, it's not an easy path, you need to have the mentality of an entrepreneur because you are the product, so how you present yourself is what people are buying! Your success depends on smart moves and shaking the right hands, busting your ass in the gym and making huge sacrifices to make it happen!
Lee Priest has been saying the same things. The IFBB Should allow people to do any shows they like and allow any amount of shows instead of limiting everything to a handful of shows. This allows people to be more known to fans/people, and allows fans/people to see the people they want to see. It also allows people to be sponsored or set up something where they can make some money to get by, and make it easier to do what they want to do.
Im not gonna lie, I look forward to these videos! Every few days I check to see if there's a new one, cant beat the info, wisdom, and truth from these videos!
Well, you said best brother. We need more person like you. We miss you man. You always think out of the box. Rest In Peace sir. And we won’t forget you.
rich is right... create followers build a audience.. i have done of facebook as a stepping stone... i have had worse comments and i have had amazing comments... stay strong keep the light burning
Basically he's saying take every opportunity you can even if it's something you never thought you'd do, do it! It could make you! You have nothing to loose.
Any minute now that one guy is gonna comment about his 20 years of being a juiced out badass and how much he can relate to this... Huge black overlord whatever the hell his name is. Kid who sits in his moms basement playing video games
that's what made rich so special he told it how it is and how it was no sugar coating no dancing around the subject or question he made more than the top Olympia guys Phil heath jay Cutler etc.
I think one of the best new sources of income is online coaching where you don't have to trade time for money increasing the number of clients you can have
Love him or hate him, you have to respect him. He accomplished what he set out to do. What have any of you professional spectator's ever done that is worth talking about??
I think most people aren't reading in between the lines what Rich's saying. Basically he's saying that chasing a trophy in a BB competition is worthless and the only way to make enough money to even feed yourself (considering prep and drug usage) is to sell your ass ("market yourself"): being one of the many many poster boys for the big companies, being forced to tell lies to your followers to even eat. It just depends on how good you can sell your ass to the sponsors (= being their poster boy for selling shit to you), you're a "model", just a person who looks good on a cover. If the next guy comes around who's bigger than you (= more willing to put their health at risk by upping the drugs to the next level) you're fucked. Unless you built an internet personality and people follow you but that's really hard to do and takes time. Even harder to if you don't wanna sell out to sponsors (almost impossible. Why? Because you need money to live while you build your business/internet persona). Look at Rich: he gained his huge popularity with Mutant. He wouldn't be here without them. Now he's criticizing the supplement industry saying they're all the same, but when he was still sponsored he put his face next to a fair amount of their stuff. Why? 'Cause they paid him. That's how you get the big houses and fancy cars. I'm not questioning his morality, just saying. In a really subjective (don't care what you say, judging a physique will always be subjective) "sport" without any actual skill required (as Rich himself said...and coming from him that's a big thing) based almost entirely on genetics and drugs such as bodybuilding the only way to make money is selling your image (probably the only thing a contest prep doesn't destroy). You gotta be willing to sell your ass (sometimes quite literally, see: Gay 4 Pay). No thanks. Don't fall into that trap guys.
Great advice Rich. Thanks for sharing. We can take this advice in any business we do. Personal training, yoga insteuctor etc. I have been using this for years in my niche business which is restoration, high end custom cars and bikes I build and paint. People laughed at me when I put money into my web site and say well who,do,you think you are?? It was ot meant for the short term but long term as ive grown and continue to grow with skill over the years. It's looking professional, being professional. People look at you as having your shit together. I now look at people's business cards they hand me and judge them as to the time effort class they put into them if I want to do business with them. Again I'm in and want a specific elite clientele so I have to MARKET for it. Great advice Rich. I. Surprised at the negative comments people can come up with here.. And we just have to steer past them
Bodybuilding is not a sport, precisely because, as you said, it is SUBJECTIVE. Sports are OBJECTIVE. Points, goals, wins, etc. in real sports are NOT based on personal feelings or opinions. In sports, there are referees, not judges. In sports, more points lead to victory, not failure. In sports, competitors are facing each other. Bodybuilding is a hobby. It does not have the criteria to be a sport.
Only trying to merely exemplify the fact that his comment in saying sports have referees is very generalised when quite clearly not all sports do. In terms of questioning intelligence, as you referred to being 'dumb' write down you're address and I WILL post you my BA (Hons), MSc and phd certificates so you shut that lie hole of yours up.
Yes i got such a good physique and all other stuffs I lift weights almost 15 years and all natural I swear all natural not even milkshakes o do not use and I never did even I don't know how they taste but however sometimes I think u can do much more with this what god have given to u but here where I liv ist really so difficult 😔 But how ever that don't stop me from my fitness
i think you are a little wrong by saying that the people there are competing and win trophies dont make money, because if they succeed on the stage people will look up to them and if they start a line of supplements people would probably buy it because they have self marketing themselves through the competing and trophies
Also a good point is, you can make money from sponsors, but why do youthink those guys give you money? because they earn 10X that. So start your own company, what they can do, you can do better.
It is probably easier for Rich to make money than others because he comes across as genuinely honest and a nice person. You can see he actually enjoys this vice pushing BS products.
Hey Rich! I love your videos, do you think you can elaborate more on marketing yourself in the industry? I feel that would benefit a lot of people because many people think you just need to compete to work for a supplement or clothing company, obviously that stuff helps but what other things should they be doing to help achieve another level of success? Thanks!
I cant believe that bodybuilder like kali muscle, kai greene and phill heath made money with g4p. This people lost a fan. I think rich is truly the only honest bodybuilder out there. I hope you will not disappoint me rich haha. I count on you. You are my last hope haha
What about the 100k+ you can make at a competition if you place high? What about having your own gym once you won some competitions? What about a good sponser that pays you and gives you good products for free? What about all that?
1-Can u tell me how to use anavar and will it effect my liver or kidneys .. and if i take it should i use Liv 52 with it to clean my liver for toxicity .. and the most important question will it effect balls.. 2- steroid cycle make you unable to have kids can u talk about that too .. ty man
So basically rich message is; "You got to start a business! I'm going to tell you how to start a business. Go to Google and search "how to start a business". That's how you start a business." - Rich Piana 2016
Rich, I wanted to ask you are you going to end up sponsoring any athletes now since you have you're very own supplement line, also would you ever sponsor natural athletes or only more of National level and higher pros ? Regardless 5%er for life.
If you win a few trophies, won't that make you more marketable? I know what you mean for sure, but I think having one or two wins on your resume is important to your marketability if you keep your life balanced.
This is so true many people get more famous via UA-cam then winning Mr O, in fact before UA-cam I didn't even know Mr O took place! Now through UA-cam I have access to so many different bodybuilders vids and updates about the sport its unreal!
Yo rich what's up man.... Love the videos n everything u do not sure if u check your comments but if it means anything too you I'm a mutant product user bc it works for me n too me you would always be the face too the mutant line .... You were n r still the man for them never knew why they had that nigga Rob as there front man had no business doing that ... Regardless good luck with your new venture in your product line and in life thanks a lot for Ur videos and keeping real thanks
A rich big fan right here, im about to jump on some juice, can u make a video about steroids and supplements, what can u take what cant u not, what is worth your money what it's not. Plz Help
Are you talking about small body building events? I know very little about the competitions but I would imagine someone who won Mr Olympia would be able to get some nice endorsement deals
Hey rich big fan right here, i have a question about Steroids and supplements what can u take what cant u not take what is worth your money what isn't. Plz help
Hey man, this video reminded me of Ryan Kennelly's trial video when he said he thought he could make a million bucks power lifting. What strikes me is that the secretive nature of steroid use amounted to no one in the powerlifting or UA-cam community really offering any support when a number of people who shot videos with him (who I won't name) are obviously steroid users, what have you done for me lately?? I was wondering what you think about this: is it an unspoken rule that if you're caught you go down alone? Or are people just protecting their own reputations through disassociation.
I really miss Rich but he did say things like this over and over in these types of videos. Dude lived his life on his terms and spoke the truth.
Never thought he'd be taken from us so soon...RIP brother.
Rich Piana is a wise man, i like your no nonsense, no bullshit videos. good stuff
***** nah don't drive a kia rio, what makes you think that??
Rich's calling would be playing Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie
That would be amazing !
agree 100%..he's even got the voice for it!
I would dedicate my life to making it happen. He literally is a carbon fucking copy of Marcus fenix
Fuck yes, make it happen !
Kali can play black guy lol

I think Jay Cutler is one of the best examples of the topic of this video.
Arnold
Facts, jays killing it

Miss u rich piana.
Miss ur honest valuable advices
fucking most sympathic guy in the business.. honest and real stuff here..screw the other storytellers.. rich keep it going
Miss you Big Bro. Guide me to The Dream Career in Bodybuilding. Help me make the money!

We miss you rich... thank you for the inspiration and for setting the bar.. !! Rest in the good graces of god..
I love that and I have been thinking of why should I start body building when I don't benefit from it ? But now am clearer .
This is hands down the realest advice anyone will ever give you.
When I watched first this video has opened my eyes.
bodybuilding judging does follow a criteria to determine the placings.but some judges just dont have the logic to judge fairly.
And some of them are simply corrupt..
Well, you said best brother. We need more person like you. We miss you man. You always think out of the box. Rest In Peace sir. And we won’t forget you.

Dumb ass. So your saying that boxing isn't a sport.
Read my shit again, fuck face. You don't know shit about the sport of boxing.
kandastrike In every sport there is a referee? False. Yes you are a key board warrior, no you are not a sport specialist.
Hass UK How can anyone misread Kandastrike's comment. Good lord people are becoming dumber by the day.
Great video as always, Rich. I wonder when is Overlord going to comment, lol
Thanx your motivated me
winning trophies also help build a fanbase metting new people etc.
Since watching this vid turned everything around now I'm doing way better than Just chasing the trophy
The money will go but the trophies will always be there!
BUT money will pay your bills,
trophies not.
You cant buy nothing with trophy but with money you can buy evrything
Thanks, great advice, smart man.
Awesome video man!! Great advice
Talked with guy cisternino yesterday and he told me the same thing. I gotta start marketing myself
Sponcerships are the way to go.

Rich, when you coming out with that BCAA drink? I'd like to review it on my channel. Thanks!
Well, Karl Ess did exactly that !
It is probably easier for Rich to make money than others because he comes across as genuinely honest and a nice person. You can see he actually enjoys this vice pushing BS products.

Rich, I wanted to ask you are you going to end up sponsoring any athletes now since you have you're very own supplement line, also would you ever sponsor natural athletes or only more of National level and higher pros ? Regardless 5%er for life.
Well said Piana!
the better question is how to make money bodybuilding naturally
+Mathew Konny gl with that
+Matt Konny You just lie about it, by imitating fake natty UA-cam clowns like Kali Muscle, Fletcher, Seid etc.
+RumbleFish252 or you can be natural and just lie about random shit like mike chang
There's no way to do that cause all body builders used the juice before to gain size so keep dreaming
Lol maybe the same way he said here? Just promote yourself. Money doesn’t come from shows it just comes from promotions/commercials/ads

And that you can do on every other thing of Marketing-Artikels.
Like Karl Ess, he makes own clothes, fusion with other people to make business
I think it'd be cool to post some pics or videos of you in contest shape
A rich big fan right here, im about to jump on some juice, can u make a video about steroids and supplements, what can u take what cant u not, what is worth your money what it's not. Plz Help
2:17 unless you go through 12 rounds and then the judges have to decide who's the winner😂
Not enough vids, the channels slowing down
Rich keep it up bro
Are you talking about small body building events? I know very little about the competitions but I would imagine someone who won Mr Olympia would be able to get some nice endorsement deals
How many times did rich say "and"?
Hey rich big fan right here, i have a question about Steroids and supplements what can u take what cant u not take what is worth your money what isn't. Plz help
I would like to know more about PCT a and how much they work and such

On your old mutant videos your voice is muted out & only music plays...
Where's blackassbadoverlord? Dude's hilarious

So did you ever try powerlifting?
what steriods to attheletes like that will keep their hair, for example, the jaco de bryun, calum von moger, sort of look?
Good points...
I was hoping for some g4p tips
I would love for you to make a thing talking about dbol and the gain you get from oral and what to do and all that.
YA Arnold classic is in Columbus OH!!! MR. Olympia is in Vegas !!!
Answer to the title? G4P!
Gay4pay?
🤣🤣🤣
We all know that everyone wants to do it 😂😂 RIP
i agree kinda but bodybuilding IS a sport.
Except you don't have to work your ass off for months to win a beauty pageant.
And on that note...can I be in your next video? lol
