I put your videos on the TV for my mum, who is suffering from dementia. She really loves watching them as you visit all her favorite places in London. The eggs aren't in the fridge because they haven't been washed and still have the natural protective barrier that is present when laid. In the US, the eggs are washed, and once washed, they must be refrigerated.

@topjack800 The best place to store eggs is the fridge, as it maintains a constant temp. Temperature fluctuations increase the risk of salmonella, etc, significantly. The Climate in which you live and the seasons are relevant too. Typically in England we kept eggs in the fridge, definitely in the fridge here in Australia.

As an American, I thought the prices were very reasonable for most of the food shops you went in. And a much greater variety in a short walking distance. I would love to shop at a Waitrose. The only thing that looked better missing is the huge variety of produce we have (I live in California so am very spoiled).

I also like to do grocery deliveries and shops at Waitrose. I plan my meals and prepare them to eat. So, that I always have something on the go. I also freeze meals.
    A few things:
    • Buying whole fresh fruits and vegetables helps to be cost effective.
    • The meat deal of 3 for £12 comes very much in handy!
    • Buy a whole chicken and roast it! You can have so many different meals with different parts of the chicken. 😋
    • Their tinned olives are great as a snack, in salads or on pizza.
    • Their fine pasta and pizza flour is the best flour I’ve ever used in my life.
    • If I ever buy pre-cut or pre-cooked foods, I find they last a long time and are in good condition when used!
    • As Hannah said, their Essential Waitrose range is very good! I don’t fault the quality of any of it.
    • They’re the only supermarket chain that offers pre-cut Soffrito!! It helps because of my fibromyalgia. I love to add it to sauces, soups stews!
    • They’re the only ones who offer frozen chopped shallots!!
I find Hannah’s shop was quite expensive due to all the pre-made and pre-cut foods. However, I fussed it was expensive when seeing her shop. Given that she bought loads of drinks, sushi and the karaage bowel, it was pretty decent!
I say it loudly: Waitrose is actually quite reasonably priced when shopping smart and has very good quality.

1 stick of Kerrygold butter is $4.27 at my local grocery store. A heat & eat meal starts at $7.99 depending on what's in it. That luxury store is what normal grocery stores(and Walmart) charge in the United States. I live in the South so farmer's markets are popular this time of year. Food here has gotten so expensive.

Salaries are significantly less in the UK as well. In general salaries are 55% less than in the US. Many single people live in co-housing in London ( sharing a flat), so this makes London more affordable, something most people post-college are less likely to do.

Also, I wonder if Hovis bread readily available in UK supermarkets? We used to be able to purchase Hovis bread as easily as any other type of bread and now you can't find it in any stores. It is such a shame. Hovis bread is in a league all its own, bread w/a college education.💓🍞💓

Well, after 6 months, wondering what was going on w/the state of the bananas being sold, I would have thought the Canadian Food Inspection Agency would have had a clue what was going on instead of telling me they didn't know what the heck I was talking about like I was bananas when not 3 days later, I just happened across the banner headline in the news about Panama disease which had already been plaguing the entire global supply of bananas for months (and continues to).
I almost called back the FDA to give them a heads up. Hello, governing food agency...anyone home?! Oy!

Now Walmart is supposed to be on the lower end which I find is not true. Some are cheaper the rest the same proce as other stores or even higher, plus I find their fresh produce and meat horrible. Too true. Even No Frills is expensive. I am not opposed to prices going up but I do object to the $1 increases on something that was only about $3 for example. What happened to the 10 or 20 cents increases?

The key with a high priced grocery store is that the produce is always really good quality, which is one of the most important parts of my weekly grocery list. Its the specialty items that get you, although there are some reasonably priced items if you look. Non-alcoholic beer actually has a good amount of nutrition and is a decent running recovery drink for electrolytes.

Hi Hannah, the old sub here. Love seeing London Waitrose prices. I shall go shopping tomorrow morning and once a fortnight I go to Waitrose for my treats and Aldi for my main shop. Hannah their salmon mousse wrapped in smoked salmon is so lush. Also we have had a fantastic apple in Waitrose called Red Pop and they are incredible, a speciality apple. I'm afraid I only buy a pastry when they're reduced, pension and all that. Also I will often buy their soft fruits when they're reduced as the last so long. I first shopped in Waitrose when I got married, as in those days, the prices were comparable to Sainsbury. I used to go to Hayes branch. I carried on going when I moved to Northamptonshire, now I don't work I can't afford to do my whole shop there. Great job Hannah, thank you ❤

I used to use oat milk a fair bit when I wasn't using almond milk, that was until I realised how much cooking oil they add to it to make it creamy. I now avoid it all together Hannah. 👍

There is a brand called “Milked Oats” in the US, and there is no oil…only filtered water, oats, and a tiny bit of salt. Of course it’s expensive though! I may try making my own oat milk in my Vitamix.

  • @larhumba4233

I totally agree! I ❤ Waitrose! You made me feel so much nostalgia for food shopping! 😅 Since M&S replaced Waitrose at Ocado it's just not the same. 😢 M&S is more expensive, less quality and less range of products. I would happily shop online at Waitrose but they introduced a no bag policy, so your shopping is delivered in palletes and my top floor flat is too small to have the man come in and unload everything in a hurry. And standing at the door putting it all in my used bags is too annoying and exhausting, because as you rightly say, Hannah, you think you'll do a £50 shop and end up spending £120 because there's so many great things to buy! As for Daylesford, I've had alot of the things you showed as Ocado stocks their brand, nothing special and overpriced is my verdict. Best thing was their Brownie tray for £12, yum! Great big chunks of chocolate! But like you I'm trying to eat healthily and lose weight. Surely you drove home with all that shopping though? 😂 I like the 0% alcohol too. Usually lager or pear cider. 😊

Hannah, I know you’ve taken us to Costco, on another of your food outings, and you have Aldi which is also big here in the states, do you have Walmart as well??? That is how a great many of us are surviving these out of control prices. I can’t imagine how people with large families are surviving these last 3-4 years. It’s truly a horror. Thanks for a wonderful video. Thoroughly enjoyable. 🌸🍃🌸

Hi Hannah, That was a very comprehensive and useful view of what ranges of food are available in Waitrose. I was hoping you would let us know how you were going to get that lot home. Did you have your car parked nearby, or did you get a taxi? A year or two ago I started using a shopping trolley, which makes life much easier.
