My family excluding my brother who didn’t eat mushrooms at the time became violently ill after eating the false chanterelle in Potter County PA. My dad and his uncle picked a 5 gallon bucket full which we cleaned, cut and my mom put them in spaghetti sauce. We all ended up in Coudersport PA in the 80’s.
Nothing to do but vomit all night. Never so sick in my entire life! I was in jr high. My brother was afraid that we were all going to die. I feel sick when I see orange mushrooms to this day.

I like you explain about chanterelles. That helps a lot!!! I gathered chanterelles in my yard, cook them and eat. I like them. How do I check mashrooms. Put some in a pot add water and shallot onion. Bring to boil. If onion didn't get blue mashrooms are eatable.
How do you call the big mashroom at the end in your video. I have them in my place I live. How to cook them. Thank you so much

Much research! The only way to make sure mushrooms are edible is to know what mushroom you found. Positive identification is the only way.

Nice review on chantarelles and lookalikes.
I also love mushroom hunting, finding and identifying different species.
    Great nature you have there.
    Thanks for sharing. 👍

It takes, learning a mushroom, going out with someone that's be harvesting that mushroom for some time. Look for wild mushroom clubs!

to be honest I learned chanterelles from videos like this. then went out hiking and saw some and easily identified them. I do think this is a good choice for foragers because it does not look similar to any mushroom that will kill you and the false gills make them easy to differentiate from jack o lantern

Have you ever found a mushroom that has canterelle characteristics but is grayish in color? Through some research I have narrowed them down to Gomphus or "violet chanterelle" I'm still 2nd guessing though, as you said.

the jack o lantern will also glow in the dark.. so if your not in a hurry to eat them you can hold them over 1 night put them in a pitch black space and see if they glow

I have yet to meet anyone that would confuse Jack's with chantrelles. if if anyone did they have no business foraging for mushrooms

because people who hunt mushrooms just know everything there is to know about foraging their first day out, right? there are never any beginners! peveryone knows the best foragers just popped out of the womb knowing everything there is to know about mushroom hunting!
and yes, i’m being INCREDIBLY sarcastic. maybe think before you write something next time.

@@mkv2718 I agree with u there are a lot of stupid people out there but those people have no business in the woods playing the lottery with something that can kill u. After the first time u see a chanterelle and a jack side by side and u can't tell them apart it's time to go home and buy mushrooms from someone who can

if its not a beginniners mushroom what is? no deadly look a likes and the poisonous look a likes are easy to differentiate after a little education.

Good question! I'd have to say it's merely a time of year thing. Morel's is a spring season and are a good starter mushroom. Thanks for the question!!

    • @jaydavidrn82
      @jaydavidrn82 Рік тому +1

to be honest it was more of a comment than a question. sorry I was being a little sarcastic. I think chantrelles are a good safe mushroom to forage. mushroom foraging is risky in general and not for beginners. but chantrelles imo are one of the safest to forage with a little research and a little training.
