My home village, and I have such fond memories of John Mills, who was always keen to promote the village fayre, known to many as Beetle Fayre. You are an absolute legend
Sir john Mills was the best of British actors an all rounder he could play serious roles comedy farcical roles and famously the village idiot. But he was a rear actor like Sir Alec Guineas he actually morphed into the character he was playing. A very talented man married to a talented lady with two talented daughters acting dynasty. So sad they both went in the same year but such was their love one wouldn’t have wanted to be without the other bless them RIP together in Gods care .
My Mum. Worked for Sir John Mills ha s a cleaner in Richmond for several years In the mid 50s l was only young 5 - 6 years but I w e not and played with Hayley several times I remember Sir John and his lovely wife being very kind to me and my Mum,, when she had to leave there cause my Dad needed more looking after through cancer they gave my Mum a lot of things to help her My Mum was so pleased to had known and respected such a loving family. Sir John his lovely wife who fed us R: I P 😢 x
John Mills was a brilliant, versatile British actor who appeared many movies of that era. Liked him particularly in Ryan's Daughter, Ice Cold in Alex, Tiger Bay, Dunkirk & many more. RIP Sir John & thanks for the enjoyment you gave to so many
Sir John acted in a film just after the war " This Happy Breed". How things have changed since those days.- I always enjoy these videos and the way you present them. Thanks.
*A Breed Apart, j.* A film/picture/'movie' I hope to experience soon. All the best, Mr Cuddihy. By the way ... Are you related to the Scottish Television news presenter, Mr. Cuddihy, from the late 1960s - early 1970s? Rab 🍻😎
GREAT VIDEO PAUL WHAT A VERY FINE ACTOR SIR JOHN MILLS WAS MAY HE REST IN PEACE LOVED HIM IN ICE COLD IN ALEX AND RYANS DAUGHTER BUT HE WAS GOOD IN ANYTHING MOVIE HE WAS IN SO THANKS AGAIN PAUL ANOTHER JOB WELL DONE 👍
Read through all of the wonderful comments! I loved John Mills as a little girl. The David Lean films were broadcast in the mid 70s and I was smitten. It resonated with me when you described him as a Father figure I think that's how I saw him it's important how such as he impact on us in our formative years. I especially loved 'in which we served ' and 'this happy breed'. Thank you Paul for paying respect to a man I admired so much x ⭐
Another great actor who was making films around the same time as the great John Mills is Peter Ustinov another really versatile actor. His interviews on television where so funny especially when he would use different accents. He was a master story teller and would have you laughing at the way in which his stories came alive with such humour. His one man show was especially entertaining but on screen he always gave an outstanding preformance. John Mills also created many characters on stage and on film. Thank you once again for the hard work in research and travelling which you do so very professionally.
Just before the video started on your right you would have passed Miss Marples cottage from the Margaret Rutherford series of films. The high street was also in Murder Ahoy! Nice place Denhem
Agreed, b. When I was 'young', Hayley the actress/person was so beautifully natural. Even as an 11-year-old (1962), I saw Hayley as such a 'wonderful young Lady'. Yes, I did/still 'fancy her!' - with respect. Enough ... Stay free, burning soul. Rab 🍻😎 💚
I always considered his best performance was as the village idiot in Ryan's daughter. He appeared in such a large number of memorable films and such a legacy will make sure he will never be forgotten
Find all your video's so informative Paul..sad but love the respect you pay to all these people. I live in Hull and in the Eastern Cemetery are the graves of 2 famous people...Old Mother Riley (Arthur Lucan) and David Bowies guitarist and right hand man Mick Ronson..if your ever around the Hull area...keep up the great work! Glenn.
Great video as always Paul remembering a fine actor. I visited his grave myself last year, and I was wondering if you were aware that after 0.44 seconds you drove past his house complete with blue plaque on the wall?
I used to live across the road from him at Richmond Hill,Ham House,Surrey,London. His wife had a gypsy caravan in the garden of their home where she wrote children's stories.
Sir John and Lady Mary Mills lived for many years in the large house immediately next to the church; the building with intricately shaped gables along the front facade. They only moved from that house because they needed a smaller residence in their old age, much of this due to Mary's dementia.
I'm dropping my wife at Heathrow this afternoon - so I hope to pop in and pay my respects on the way home! LATER: I did - and I found two other celebrity burials in the same churchyard! I wonder if you missed them, or perhaps making separate videos? (actor, Sir Roger Moore, and Sir James Martin, of Martin Baker ejection-seat fame)
You've just missed a Golden Opportunity on your way to The Mills Grave. Right next door to the entrance you passed the Building next to the Gate. The Mills Cottage. Plus also the grave on the way in or out is a Large Family Grave. The story is quite complex. It was at its Time the A Family Murder. Great views though. I live 5mins from the Cemetery. It is often used in MIDSUMMER MURDERS
Just think !,one day, your "resting place " will be of curious value to those of us,your avid followers of the departed of infamy, etc,and will throng around your resting place ! !(Father Time is behind us all! !)lol ! ! !
