  • A planned series of protest marches against transgender ideology in schools held across Canada Wednesday were met with crowds affirming their support for transgender youth, as rhetoric and debate over sex education curriculum grows louder.
In Toronto, hundreds gathered north of Queen’s Park as part of the Million March 4 Children, chanting “leave our children alone,” while hundreds more gathered in opposition.
Opposing rallies were also held in Halifax, Ottawa, New Brunswick, and Vancouver.
“I’m here because I think it’s important for parents to have a say in what is being taught in school,” said one protester participating in the Million March 4 Children.
“If I had the kind of education that can be provided today when I was a kid, it would have saved a world of hurt, depression, anxiety - and we need to make sure we have that kid,” said a pro-trans counter-protester.

Parents wanting to know what's going on with their children in schools is not hate, as the gender ideology claims.

    • @Brisingr-b5f

Most rational people know that it is not hate, but the LGBTQ+ community are constantly looking for opportunities to push their ideology onto other people. This community is one of the best protected minority groups in society and we have pride season to celebrate and embrace them. Yet, they are still out here attacking the millions of people who are protesting against this idea of incorporating sex and gender ideology in the children's curriculum.
I've seen videos of LGBTQ+ protestors chanting "we are coming for your children." These are the same people who claim to be protecting children from their parents. Most of them probably do not have children nor will they have them. The LGBTQ+ community is going to lose a lot of goodwill over this from the general public. The vast majority of people do not believe in pandering to a minority group that represents less than 10% of all individuals in society. You can teach children about acceptance, compassion, and empathy without pushing the SOGIE agenda onto them. It's called having human decency and respect. Not a complicated concept to impart on children.

Shouldn't they find out exactly what they're accusing the education system of doing before they proclaim them guilty? BTW the entire motivation of this 'protest' is hatred of trans people and gay people, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. You can hear it in their voices. They don't even know what they're accusing schools of doing, and allowing such a non-protest only stirs up suspicion and disdain which is the purpose of it.

I really don't understand the logic of these government bodies. On one hand, they strongly emphasize that engaging in sexual activity with a minor is a serious crime that is universally condemned. Such actions not only harm the minor involved but also have severe legal consequences. It is essential to prioritize the safety and well-being of children and uphold the laws designed to protect them. Any sane person will never dispute this fact.
However, on the other hand, they are pushing forward rather very strongly with an equal crime by granting full power and rights to these minors to alter their biological gender however they wish without their parents' consent. Isn't it logical for these minors to wait until they reach the age of maturity and then decide if that action is really in their best interest for the rest of their lives? Why is the first scenario branded as a heinous crime while the second is not only considered normal but also deemed the right of every human to exercise, even if that human happens to be a minor? This inconsistency represents, not only for me but for all the sane people around the world, a sheer double standard!

If another adult is talking to your children about sexuality or keeping secrets from you, they need to be investigated and fired. There’s no place for that in school, just like religion shouldn’t be forced upon children. Only someone with ill intentions tries to have secrets with children that aren’t their own. In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
As Muslim parents, we find ourselves standing at a critical juncture where the very values and principles we hold dear are under siege within the educational institutions that should be nurturing the minds and hearts of our children. Teachers, school administrators, and certain politicians must be held accountable for a disconcerting trend-the concealment of our Muslim students' lapses in faith and non-adherence to religious practice while at school. This silence is not just a disregard for our faith; it is an affront to the core principles of our belief.
In Islam, the duty of parents to guide their children in matters of faith and moral character is a sacred one. We teach our children the significance of daily prayers, the honor of the hijab, and the profound values that our faith embodies. These are not mere cultural practices; they are the pillars upon which our spiritual lives rest. And, as parents, it is our divine right and solemn responsibility to instill them in our children.
Yet, we stand witness to a disturbing phenomenon where teachers exercise discretion in not immediately informing parents about their children's religious failings. This discretion, however it is couched, amounts to collusion between the teacher and child-an assault on parental authority and the moral values we have every right to instill in our children.
We must make it unequivocally clear: In our society, parents have been entrusted with the divine responsibility of nurturing their children's religious upbringing. It is not a matter of intrusion; it is an act of love, devotion, and a duty enshrined in our faith. When educators choose to withhold information about a child's lapse in faith, whether through neglecting prayers, removing the hijab, or failing to observe other religious practices, they not only betray our trust but undermine the very essence of our faith.
Islam teaches us the importance of honesty, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of life. When educators remain silent about these lapses in religious practice, they not only deprive us of the opportunity to fulfill our sacred duty but also perpetuate a culture of negligence.
Let us draw a parallel between this situation and a parent's right to be informed by the school of any change in the gender expression of their children while at school. Just as parents have the right to be informed about matters that impact their children's well-being, we, as Muslim parents, have the right to be informed about issues that impact our children's faith and moral character.
Moreover, it is crucial to emphasize that, in our faith, a child should not have the autonomy to decide whether or not they should perform their prayers or remove the hijab. These are not choices a child should make for themselves; they are religious obligations that are to be instilled and enforced by parents and reinforced by the educational institutions that we entrust with our children.
We call upon teachers, school administrators, and politicians to reconsider their stance on this matter. Let us not waver in our commitment to honesty, accountability, and the preservation of parental authority. This is not a plea for tolerance; it is a resolute call for an inclusive and honest dialogue, one that respects the sacred responsibility of Muslim parents.
May Allah grant us the strength and wisdom to uphold our values and fulfill our duties as parents, and may our educational institutions heed this call for the sake of our children's faith and moral character.
JazakAllahu Khairan (May Allah reward you with goodness)

@@AIHumanEquality I acknowledge your response, but I must stress the seriousness of the concerns expressed in my post. The issues discussed are not merely a matter of "calming down." They revolve around the fundamental principles of our faith, the rights of parents, and the well-being of our children.
Islam teaches us to be steadfast in upholding the values and principles that define our faith. As Muslim parents, we have a solemn duty to guide our children in matters of faith, including the requirement of wearing the Hijab and practicing prayer at schools, to uphold their moral character. This is a responsibility we take seriously, and it is not one that can be brushed aside lightly.
The issues raised in my post touch upon the very core of our beliefs and the future of our community. In a world where our faith is often challenged, it is imperative that we address these concerns with the gravity they deserve.

Funny you should say that religion shouldn't be forced on kids in school, because that's exactly what's funding this march: socially conservative Muslim activists, and Christian Nationalist groups and evangelicals led by the Liberty Coalition Canada. They want prayer and religious teachings brought into public schools, and they have a fundamentalist wing that is raising money to run conservative political candidates with the goal of “calibrating the laws to align with Biblical principles.” They also got free promotion from anti-abortion advocates, convoy participants, anti-vaxxers, and a litany of far-right kooks who are trying to bring culture wars to the classroom.
When I was in high school some 20 odd years ago, I knew of one openly gay student out of a school population of 900 kids. After graduation there were dozens more in my graduating class that came out, as they finally found the confidence and community support to reveal their true gender identities away from the crucible of high school, knowing that at the time they would have been harassed, bullied, and beaten for revealing their gender orientation. But they went for years hiding their true selves from their family, friends, and teachers, and confided afterwards that they were miserable and lonely for much of that time. That is why sex ed and gender inclusive health classes are so vital to the students, because it's offering them a safe setting to discuss and learn about themselves, instead of struggling alone in silence. It's not "indoctrination" or "grooming" kids, it's giving them the tools and the language to understand their own bodies, it's teaching them about consent, and it's creating an awareness and tolerance among the student body to not be so reactive or fearful of LGBTQ+ people.
If the parents object to that, they can instruct their kids as they see fit in their own homes. But to force a narrow viewpoint that is in accordance with religious fundamentalism upon all other students and their instructors for the sake of avoiding uncomfortable conversations around the dinner table is not a valid course of action. Gay, lesbian, trans, and intersex people will continue to exist whether it's being taught in schools or not. Taking a proactive step toward preparing young adults for the realities they face before they graduate from high school is far better than ignorance and avoidance.

Adolf Hitler was named chancellor on January 30, 1933, and enacted policies to rid Germany of Lebensunwertes Leben, or “lives unworthy of living.” What began as a sterilization program ultimately led to the extermination of millions of Jews, Roma, Soviet and Polish citizens-and homosexuals and transgender people.
When the Nazis came for the institute on May 6, 1933, Hirschfeld was out of the country. Giese fled with what little he could. Troops swarmed the building, carrying off a bronze bust of Hirschfeld and all his precious books, which they piled in the street. Soon a towerlike bonfire engulfed more than 20,000 books, some of them rare copies that had helped provide a historiography for nonconforming people.
The carnage flickered over German newsreels. It was among the first and largest of the Nazi book burnings. Nazi youth, students and soldiers participated in the destruction, while voiceovers of the footage declared that the German state had committed “the intellectual garbage of the past” to the flames. The collection was irreplaceable.

Not neccisarily with this instance since it's pretty chill of a protest, but for the most part a lot of these movements are pushed by groups who are just there to attack trans people. There's some levels of this that can be discussed. But a lot of this is evangelicals or other extreme type of Christian organizations funding this. Hell British anti trans movements have Russian oligarchy money put into them.
Also simply the idea of "debating my existance" is pretty dehumanizing. I shouldn't have to debate my own lived experiences. Let alone debate with people who want me dead. Again not everyone at this protest wants that, even if they are pushing for changes that lead to mroe trans people being dead thy might not realize, nor is it the intent. Plus since the pandemic a lot of the school material is done online even with the kids back in the class so we can see what they’re doing. There is no issue with transparency.

I learned things in school that my parents didn’t. I hope my kids learn things that I didn’t so they can teach me when they’re older. We stop growing when we stop learning, sharing and teaching.
I legit don’t understand what parents are afraid of if their child finds out a trans person exists. Like (entertain this ridiculous idea for a second) even if it’s a moral sin, so is murder and theft but children are allowed to learn that people do that.
What is it about being a gender that doesn’t match your body that people are so terrified of children finding out? I know trans people exists and last time I checked, I’m still a biological and self-identifying male in society. I coexist with trans people and there’s zero problem. My kids know their uncle used to be their aunt and they’re fine with it. Why are we causing such pain to real humans from such a non-issue?!

I am in my early 30s and we were taught sex education after gr 5-6. science in gr 1 was volcano studies and learning about solids, liquids, gas etc. if they are taught about gender identity from age 4-5 it will actually confuse them more, than if they were taught about it later on when they are 15-16 etc

The ideology is being actively promoted to children in the forms of highly sexualized graphic books, active promotion and affirmation of Trans gender identity to children far too young to make a serious decision on their own, and activities promoting the LGBTQ lifestyle to young children in various forms. @@beckee6282 and I think that’s the point. I’m a former teacher, I have taught in Ontario, Abu Dhabi, London and Germany. I think Ontario could stand to learn from other curriculums and their teacher assessment techniques. If teachers are free to teach the curriculum however they want, without any standards and without consistent observations, especially when it comes to ensuring proper progress development for each individual child within a class, therein lies the problem. I personally love the UK curriculum and it’s assessment of teachers. They make sure each individual students needs are met within the framework of lessons and teachers are held to a high standard. So no matter the topic, the students reach their zone of proximal development. When teachers are left to their own devices, who knows what’s going on in the classroom, especially when it comes to such an important and potentially confusing topic. The curriculum itself, and I’m talking only health and safety, is a 320 page document. It’s not 320 pages because it’s exhaustive, but rather it has a lot of info, some of it pointless. It has so much info in fact, that I guarantee majority of teachers aren’t reading it. The portions I read however had no confusing and/or abusive information. But it was stressing the importance of respecting others, valuing our bodies, understanding what it’s going through and not discriminating against one another. So it’s not the curriculum that’s the problem, but making sure we hold our teachers to high standards in how they teach… in my humble opinion.
