UPDATE:
Now that we're seeing the crypto market reach ATH, notice that this is not driven by any sort of use-case or practicality. It is, as it has always been in the past, driven by price speculation.
People asking me if I still think crypto is a scam because "number is going up" have failed to understand that the entire point of this video is how "number going up" is all you care about. The technology itself is just a cover for that.
If the industry actually found a use-case that justified its value and the harmful externalities it causes I would be more than happy to say I'm wrong, but it hasn't and it's been 15 years.

I'm a blockchain developer. And although I don't agree on the point that blockchain doesn't have a solid usecase, but I actually appreciate the fact that there are people who are reasonably skeptic about this technology. It helps to keep everyone's feet on the ground.
All I agree on most of the points raised here. 99% of the 'Cryptocurrencies' are fake and will eventually go bust, play-to-earn models are just MLMs rebranded.

You're probably speaking to 5% of the readers here. I don't meet many folks even at my age of 39 that understand what you mean like you and I do. I'd give all I have to be let in a room alone with any of the fed chairs of my life time. 2 men enter...
You still get your money though... Usually
Anything people are willing to pay for has value, how much they are willing to pay for it determines the value. It's not the same for all people, but really it's just about the economics of supply and demand.
Right, but bitcoin depends on the power grid, if that goes down it's worthless. Even physical currency like the USD isn't as stable or reliable as something like gold. But even gold would be next to worthless if things were bad enough that food, water, and weapons is in the highest demand so those would become the main things people trade.
So in that case accepting someone's gold for any of those things in hopes that things will get better months or years in the future, it's basically an investment that could turn out to be a grave mistake if they overestimate how much of what they need to survive they have to give. It seems inevitable even a solar flare could take the grid down, it might be a bigger threat than an EMP, or they could use an EMP and blame it on solar flares.
@@brians1793 haha back to the stone age!
If the power grid were to go down we are all fuxked.
Lol what do you think will happen to your bank account when “the power grid goes out” This wont happen but either way money has been digital for years.
@@Illich302 It's so frustrating when people miss the point and don't realize it, of course banks have similar issues I was never saying they don't. And if you don't think that can happen you're delusional, especially with the strong solar activity we're having lately which could do it and EMP's and the likeliness of WW3 and even civil war. I thought it might be between liberals and conservatives, but it'll mostly be US citizens and illegals. They're intentionally letting them steal American's homes with squatter's rights, there's even illegals on TikTok telling other illegals how to in their own words steal American's homes. You can't make this shit up.
I was mostly comparing bitcoin to gold, not other forms of technically digital currency like banks, but at least then you can take physical currency out. I realize you could sell bitcoin but that's not exactly the same thing, a lot could go wrong there. Most Americans are far more dependent than they realize, I'm sorry but people that basically couldn't survive without the government and corporations, how free are you really? A lot of the things we're told are about our 'independence' are more so to enslave us, like student loans making people debt slaves and ultimately either making them feel like they have no choice but to follow that career, or in some way are going to be screwed because of that debt. Besides the obvious brainwashing and indoctrination that goes on there and in public schools, even elementary now with the political bullshit where they should just keep that shit out of schools regardless of which side.
They're trying to control the food supply and farmers almost entirely and can freeze bank accounts, and even not allow anyone to buy or sell without digital currency except bitcoin. People are being told bitcoin is fighting against that, I find it hard to believe it isn't basically a scam to trap anyone refusing to accept the central bank's digital currency. There's a reason some call the central bank's digital currency the mark of the beast, it could be a literal mark and you'd need it to buy and sell in a lot of ways and it's basically pledging allegiance to the evil satanic system in the US, they're making it so painfully obvious how satanic it is regardless of whether anyone is religious or not or even believes in any of that, it doesn't change that there's clearly many in power fulfilling Biblical prophecy.
The funny thing is. People cash out crypto for more cash profit because they believe more in cash.
More than funny I would call it cynical...
No. They cash out because they want to buy MORE Bitcoin after the next crash.
Because govs force fiat scam currencies as basic denominators.
I will never sell my Bitcoins.
They sell some bitcoin to help pay the bills
Blackrock and Fidelity hold 152,900 Bitcoin. As of February 2024
And if they were to sell that, to let’s say another large conglomerate they own who would be willing to take the temporary hit, they could crash and kill bitcoin very quickly. So much for ‘decentralised’ eh
they bought that with their private trust in 2022 :) making sales to their company now propping up price then dumping into retail in the other end clever tactic
They don't invest in scams. This dude works as an undercover government bullshitter.
Did you miss the part about early investors getting rich while later investors go broke? When I was in high school, everyone was planning to get rich through Amway. The problem I saw was that they all were trying to recruit others into the team, and no one was actually selling the products. In the end, the Devos family got rich, and all my friends and neighbors ended up with a garage full of inventory they couldn't sell.
When the price is high enough, the big boys will dump everything.

The amount of "get rich quickly" ads on this video is absurd and hilarious.
This is a wonderful documentary, thank you so much for your work! 💕
I watch a channel called Hannah Alonzo who talks about MLM's and how they're scams. She mentioned her channel also gets a lot of ads from MLM's, but it's a good thing. Since the UA-cam algorithm can't distinguish between a channel that is pro or anti-MLM, they just slap them on any channel that is talking about the subject. So, it means those companies are just losing money with ads being placed on a channel with an audience who has no interest in MLM's. So, if the same is happening with this channel, that is good! Let them continue to waste their advertising money here.
Imagine the irony of getting rich, by making videos of crushing other people’s dreams of getting rich.

This is a line I hear very frequently with stories about MLM's and those who join them. They're scams all the way to the top but trying to get someone deeply rooted in one out of it is damn near impossible unless they can somehow see the truth with their own eyes. It's honestly the female variant of the culture around crypto currencies, down to the gaslighting if you ever raise any concerns about the MLM and shaming or blocking you from the rest of the group to keep you from causing others to leave. These are essentially cults.
Your all simply being distracted.

i remember when NFT's were just starting to become mainstream, I was at a friend's wedding and one friend was trying to explain to others who didn't know about NFT's what they were. I gave in my two-cents and just said they're basically things that people with too much money on them buy. How fine that sentiment has aged.
People who don't understand a technology trying to explain it to other people who don't understand this technology....yeah I'm sure it aged great. NFT is a proof of concept of digital uniqueness...right now there's little use for it on its own and most don't understand it . But it's a groundbreaking technology.
people with too much money buy things that are fun, entertaining or pretty. NFT are none of these things.
It is not like a 10 thousand dollar bottle of of champaign or a carefully crafted ice sculpture, its just nothing.

Maybe I'm just a clueless moron who just turned 50, but all of this crypto and NFT shit seems not just incomprehensible but absolutely insane. I learned when I was young that once you hear about a bubble it’s too late to buy in. I saw people I know lose everything when they bought in 2007 to the housing market. The crypto bubble was even more obvious. Real money making is boring more than exciting ever. You did an excellent job in explaining why it always felt like BS from the moment I heard it.
So did everyone stop buying houses?
@@tduno3214no but the Lehman Brothers did and they were the reason for tightened regulations we see today.
Yeah, my family lost everything during the 2007 thing, still can’t get a house. That was such terrible time, though my parents did a good job of shielding how poor we became (or I’m just dumb and didn’t notice).
@@user-sf9gs2pg1b You do know that the people that rode the low waves, got back on the high ones right? Whatever they paid for in 2007 was not nearly as much as the 2022 bubble right? I just completed on a house this year, and I feel like I paid too much but it's not like land is going to pop out from the sea is it? So properties and land will always go up. BTC did the exact same thing, and will probably keep doing so. The value of an item is only worth whatever you are willing to pay for, that doesn't make it a scam... after all a pair of Nike Trainers cost them about $10 to make? Yet you pay $150+?
@@user-sf9gs2pg1bThose that lost everything were speculating and bought more homes than they needed just because they could. Which is stupid on its face.
It's a scam because you didn't have the foresight to buy any.

There should be a law against celebrities endorsing scams coz this is happening all over the world
They'll claim ignorance and say they didn't know it was a scam, were just doing it for money.
Let's pass a law that says politicians can't participate in the stock market too
IE Endurance, Car Sheild buyer beware!!
I think any celebrity who knowingly backs up a scam knowing for well and I'm sure they know full well that it's a scam. These celebrities have to know that it's a scam because I'm sure they've got all of the finest people advising them, or at least they should anyways. But any big major figure or celebrity that's involved in a scam like this should automatically lose everything they have. i'm so glad I didn't invest in cryptocurrency because it's terrible for the environment and if I had any real gold to my talent which I know I do, I would steer clear of this type of crap. I'm too passionate about creativity to be involved and get rich quick Ponzi scheme that destroys the environment and waste energy
WTF does a celebrity know about anything except for remembering their lines?
I agree with you about all other coins.
But not about Bitcoin. It solves the problem it was intended to solve, not been controlled by the state or any centralized organization. And it is able to scale by other layers.
Sad is just that there are many scammers enjoying the stupidest people that believe in every single new coin that is just a ponzi scheme
Thank you!
Bitcoin wasn't created to speculate on its exchange worth, ofc and to buy Bitcoins on platforms that may not have it really. Additonally the video editor describes what a ponzi scheme is and defines Bitcoin as one of these not getting that there's no profiting group or company head behind it. "One coin" was very different but he didn't even try to research the difference.
I’m with you.
I agree I’m not a big fan of Ethereum neither but that has a Used case as well… and if you really listen to the whole video, most of the Ponzi schemes, he’s talking about are NFTs
Bitcoin completely fails as a decentralised currency because the hard limit on the transaction rate of ~7 transactions per second results in ludicrous transaction fees. Sure, it's decentralised, but it's a terrible medium of exchange, which also makes it a poor store of value.
It's good practice to have an open mind, and hear both sides. I have mixed feelings on this video. I have been scammed by alt coins, not NFT's.... but I am falling more into the Bitcoin maxi camp. I learned a lot about other cryptos and NFT's in this video. Thanks for the differing thoughts, I really appreciate it.
Nft..... Im glad i never got into this crap . I just stick to video games weed and life and enjoy living you know

As an artist I was very excited when I first heard about the NFT's. Because at first it seemed so good for me like "yes, finally artists are able to sell their digital art for the same value as the traditional art."
Then I found out that all of the people who are interested in this "art collection", are stoner classmates from my highschool, unemployed people and influencers... That didn't sound right.
LOL
unfortunate. Because digital artists, who have been creating digital works since the late 50s, see a Non-fungible Token (NFT) as a 'canvas'. And they continue to create and use this 'canvas' to deliver their work effectively and profitably.
Sounds very much like the art market to me.
Why can't I screenshot an NFT that's say worth 10 million but only sell it for 100k?
You can screenshot my butt hairs and paint them as art and sell them for 1 million each and just pay me ten percent like 100k lemme know when you are ready.
Revux's journey from presale to mainstream adoption is one to watch closely; its potential for growth is immense.

The exchanges are like the final boss of the crypto scam
Biggest scam is banks not crypto, in crypto you just gotta do your research and be aware of the many snakes like in anything but the market is volatile if you hold the right thing its bound to go up long-term. Short term higher risk and you gotta know what u doing.
So basically its a gamble but with buzz word
@@Rokaishi yeah but in crypto the average person has higher chance to make profit if their patient and don't sell. As an artist, I am so glad I didn't believe the NFT hype. Seeing the ugly "art" that was being popular and promoted, it told me that the big money won't be going to genuine artists, because the game is rigged. As usual.
same as modern art
The whole point is to transfer money from person A to person B. Nobody actually believes any of it is art.
NTFs were certainly hyped and abused .... by many.
NTFs do have actual uses, though - for written contracts, deeds (signed or unsigned) and beyond ... even art - or collector items, real coins, etc... can be - verified via a public or private, distributed chain of blocks (records).
I thought it was interesting they were able to find out lots of information behind the shady and scammy activity, because _MOST_ blockchains are public!
Some do have strong privacy features, though...
The block chain itself doesn't even handle the actual nft, it's not efficient enough. You get a bloody link to the stupid thing.
It's important to make clear, the nfts are not the art itself. Nft is just a unique number you associate with the art to tell that art is yours, like an ID number.
