I've seen hundreds of really old cars restored where rust and damage were 100 times more extensive than this but it's so cool to watch what it's going to be like to restore modern cars vs something from 1969 before the advent of plastic everything. This is a groundbreaking series.
Wow thats the first time ive ever seen a car like that stripped down to the bare bones its just amazing how much detail ford put into making there cars where the designers and engineers start with it thats what we never get too see 😱
Honestly that car is pretty tidy underneath for a 20 year old UK example - barely any rust of note from looking underneath it! Fords of this era were known to rot as well, which means it's even more remarkable.

I got very very excited when you guys first introduced this project last year, I thought I might get the courage to follow it and maybe restore mine to it's former glory. this is my first car, my father bought it 2 years after I was born in 1998 and it stayed with him until I turned 18 and got a driving license. learned to drive in it. would sleep in it and travel around with it. it was the meaning of freedom for me. it was a dream.. I loved it. now after 8 years of ownership and more than 20 years in the family. Tomorrow is its last day. 😔😔 I am selling it, already sad and already feeling bad and seeing this makes it a lottt harder... I love you Fordititi.. I call it that because it's as old as Nefertiti 'Egyptian Pharaoh'

LOVELY JUBBLY, workshop reminds me of a Ford Dealership which I frequently had to visit in the late 1980's but sadly gone now. They were called mechanics back then, not technicians like nowadays.
I had one as a company car back in the day. Loved it. Never took it over 75mph! A fab cruiser. Used to get boy racers on my tail all the time but just used to wave them round.

I mean Halfords mechanics are people just like Ford mechanics are people. Most work on cars these days doesn't require a rocket scientist just the ability to to read a diagnostics machine and to turn a spanner, so why not?
The SVT Contour (as the Mondeo was called on this side of the pond) is one of my all time favorite cars. I had a major crush on them the moment our local Ford lot got them in 1998.
my dad had that exact car. same colour etc. made me love ford. i now own a newer shape mondeo ST, fiesta ecoboost and fiesta ST. that exact mondeo was what pushed me to not just like bikes, believe it or not, it was a company car too. his boss at the firm asked what he would happily drive, he said this, and lone behold it was purchased an given to him, had it for around 5/6 years untill the boss swapped it out for a newer model that he HATED. He asked him to swap the newer model for either the old one, or a van. tells you everything really lol! but wow, nostalgia. i gotta find the photos of us eating a picnic on the roof up clent hills.

Haynes manuals used to always say something along the lines of reassembly being the reverse of removal. In my experience this was often not as straightforward as it sounded. Looking forward to seeing the results.
As a an aging petrol head, the sight of that pulled power plant made me wishful for the simplified layout of the electric vehicles available currently. I'm jaded on the plumbing. Hateful of switches and wiring harness nightmares. Transmissions, gearboxes, and fluid /vacuum leaks, filters. .. Jay Leno can have them all. I'm gonna follow Dr. May in 2021 . Plug it in. 👍

I noticed that as well! I lived west of Philly for a year, then moved to central Jersey for six years, then eventually moved "back home" to MA. Wawa was the best! Man, I miss Wawa.
Cool seeing it come back to life, in America I've worked on many Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques. Your access to lifts is very envious! Most of us drop those subframes without any lifts - BIG task!! You're lucky the subframe bolts didn't rust too bad, usually they're their own nightmare when the nuts free-wheel lol

That winter health check is some insanely basic stuff, if you're watching this video and you don't already know how to check half that stuff I'm kinda concerned. Could have sworm half of that was on my driving test
As useless and overpriced most of Halfords is, their 'advanced' tool range is some of the best 'bang for buck' you can get. The advanced stuff comes with lifetime guarantee. No receipt required (as long as it says Halfords on it), just walk in with your broken tool and they'll swap it out there and then if there's one in stock. Quite often you see the display cabinet socket set missing some pieces, well now you know why :)

I get that they need sponsors, but it grinds my nuts to hear them recommend Halfords...our local one can't even fit headlights properly - they left the bulb mounts unclipped on both my daughter's car and my wife's car, so they looked OK in daylight but were downright dangerous with about 3 feet of visibility in the dark. On the bright side, at least wife and daughter actually trust me to sort their cars out now.

Leaving a car in a dangerous state is not acceptable.
That was the Ford Contour SVT here in America. It came with a Yamaha v6. A total sleeper. Super cool car and you rarely ever see them on the road today.
The Taurus SHO had the Yamaha v6. The contour had a v6 that was designed by Porsche and cosworth. For 98 the SVT had 195 HP at the crank and for 99 and 00 it was bumped up to 200 HP at the crank

I have such fond memories of this car💙. It’s the car my dad drove when me and my little brother were young. And it was blue!😄. However I don’t think he had this model, this one looks too sporty. My auntie had one as well but hers was silver. If I ever learn to drive and get my license, I want this car. And I’ll make the money to repair it. I used to own an ST24 Saloon, one of the nicest cars I've owned. The engine sounds beautiful and was silky smooth to drive.

I had the V6 Si which was the ST24 without the body kit.....best car i have ever owned. Loved it.
I am well versed in this V6 engine. My Lincoln Ls has a very similar 3.0 Duratec to this engine. Amazing engine.

I've had the pleasure of driving one of those. effortless driving and about 28mpg. I've also owned a few other v6 mondeos but the st200 is the best.

Most of us don't have ramps, thousands of pounds worth of tools or an air line. If I did, would do alot more on my car myself.

Halfords advanced tools are some of the best. Lifetime warranty is pretty insane for a tool

For 98 the SVT had 195 HP at the crank and for 99 and 00 it was bumped up to 200 HP at the crank
@@redplymouth Thats it 👍. I got the two power trains swapped. The SHO was pushed as an M5 competitor. Thanks for the correction. The latest model Taurus SHO is a great example of a current (relativity) sleeper.

I love the new SHO, I want one of those or a newer fusion sport. Both of them are fun sleeper cars, just wish they where offered with a manual transmission.

I have such fond memories of this car💙. It’s the car my dad drove when me and my little brother were young. And it was blue!😄. However I don’t think he had this model, this one looks too sporty. My auntie had one as well but hers was silver. If I ever learn to drive and get my license, I want this car. And I’ll make the money to repair it. I even still remember the reg on my dads mondeo as well. Boss car👌🏻💙 Ahhh the memories of going camping in wales💙
