    I want to address the timeline of Ben's fall to the dark side. I've always assumed that since Bloodline takes place six years before The Force Awakens, Ben must have fallen after the events of the book. But we really don't know when he fell. All we know for sure is that Leia didn't know. It's also possible that Snoke already had his hooks in Ben. Maybe he was somewhat involved in the First Order, but hand't massacred the other Jedi yet. Maybe he heard about the senate bombing and got a note to Leia. I don't know, but I do think the link between the handwritten note and the calligraphy set, both intentionally included in separate stories by the same man, is more than coincidence. But that's just my opinion. :)

      And my view was that he fell BEFORE Bloodline. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

      Pretty sure it's revealed in TLJ Novelization that Snoke had either met or known of Ben Solo back when the later was very young, like a baby or toddler/young kid. So yeah, I think it's very likely Snoke could have been influencing Ben to the dark side for a long while.

      This could still happen without Ben having joined the First Order already or working through them. Remember Anakin had Force dreams about Padme dying, perhaps Ben had a similar dream given to him by the Force that showed his mother dying in a bombing of the Senate, so he found a way to get a message to her just in time.

      Star Wars Explained In the novel, Ben is off somewhere with Luke. Perhaps Leia THOUGHT Ben was with Luke. Have you tried tweeting at Pablo Hidalgo or Claudia Gray to ask them? They might be their usual evasive selves though to their credit they are surprisingly interactive with fans but maybe they would say if they at least KNOW who gave Leia the napkin warning. I hope Dave Filoni’s next show is Star Wars Resistance as rumored so we can delve further into the beginnings of The First Order and The Resistance. Also, we could have more Leia.

    I think Rian’s original idea was that Leia would be the one to redeem Kylo. Luke wasn’t capable of it, he accepted as much in TLJ, it would be like Obi Wan redeeming Anakin, couldn’t be done, the right person was needed and Leia was that person. Problem is that’s not possible anymore.

      I think Ben will redeem himself with motivation from Rey, just meeting her has already changed his life for the better. He’s killed his tormenter and is free to choose his own destiny for once. He will need to do the brunt of the work or else it won’t mean anything. I want to see him do it, continuing to suffer intensely, but it all being worth it in the end, Han’s death will mean mean everything in the end ♥️

    I LOVED THE Last Jedi. I think that the reason most of these questions are answered in books and comics is because only hard core fans are the ones asking the questions. Casuals that see the movies only are just in it for lightsabers and the force. Or they are children and can only view it from face value anyway. I also find it hard to have anger for unanswered questions when we still have a third movie in the ST. Both TFA and TLJ left me with the same feeling "I can't wait to see the next one and see how it all gets tied together." I think when it all gets tied together the fan base will have a collective sigh of relief and the full 3 part story will be told for them. I love the ST just as much as the OT and PT. my 3 favorite SW movies are Return Of The Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, and The Last Jedi.

    • @CarterElkins
      @CarterElkins 6 років тому +7

      Jacob Leevai Ostrer I really enjoyed it, too! I think in the long run, TLJ will not be seen by most as a blot on the franchise, as some would like you to think now. We forget that at first, Empire Strikes Back also had a pretty mixed reception, because part of human nature is to react against sudden change that we don't think we want. There were lots of fans (especially kids) that hated the Vader reveal, and didn't even want to believe it was true, which is why Yoda has to confirm it for Luke in Return of the Jedi! In the end, we all cherish ESB, and while I don't think TLJ is going to have exactly that same effect, I do think it will play an important role in Star Wars' future. It has already made the ST a lot more enjoyable for me, and out of all 9, I'd have to put it at 4th place, after Rogue One and a tie for 2nd with Revenge/Return.

    No, that is awesome. If this is true, this is awesome. I loved Bloodline and thought it made up for the lack of the Senate on screen in TFA. As a fan of the Kylo Ren character, this only pours more into the story of Ben's emotional turmoil inside himself as he tries to attain greatness and truly "let the past die".

      Totally agree, it really bugged me watching TFA that nothing was explained in regards to the New Rebublic and the First Order and why there was a resistance group. I've since read the books and they've done an okay job at explaining the situation but the films shouldn't rely on books.

    • @hen913
      @hen913 6 років тому

      Lungorthin But this is the exact reason why the past Star Wars films feel so fleshed out. They released novel after novel, game after game, comic after comic filling in every blank they could.
      For example, between ANH and ESB, we know some time passes by and people use that as an excuse for how Luke was able to train etc. When in the film, we don't even know how much time has passed and obviously he doesn't receive any training until ESB when he see's Obi Wan again. And because of exterior sources, people say he's been training for years! Yea right.

    Just finished reading Bloodline a couple weeks ago. I never did buy off on the reasoning they guessed at for why anyone would warn them. It seems that Kylo would be the only one with both the knowledge of the bombing and the motive to save Leia. Very plausible theory, and borderline confirmed it seems with the calligraphy easter eggs.

      Alex Greaney I don't think he necessarily needs to know about the bombing at all. We know Luke could sense his friends were in danger from across the galaxy. It's only a small step further to say that Ben could sense that the danger would materialize at that time. Or, as some have speculated, he could already be under Snoke's influence, and found out about it/sensed it through him.

    Speaking of things not happening by accident, nothing makes they final cut of a movie by accident either. I think Johnson also wanted the pen to cross his Jedi lightsaber as A.) Foreshadowing for his crossguard later, and B.) MAYBE shows that Ben's intelligence may be his second weapon. Sorta like his cross guard saber is. Maybe Ben uses this skill in Ep 9 to carry out a task he has it something. Really interesting!

    From the understanding we have now, Ben Solo didn't find out that his grandfather was Darth Vader until after all of this. How I've understood it is the was the catalyst that pushed him to darker side of the force. (Luke's betrayal is the real turning point but this may have accelerated things). If he became Kylo Ren before this we don't know, but from reading Bloodlines it sounds doubtful. Also the people in charge of the Napkin bombing was a front but not the actual First Order so it's doubtful Kylo Ren would be apart of it. The representative of the First Order was pissed when she found out about this.

    • @DragonRebelRose
      @DragonRebelRose 6 років тому +13

      Because Reylos are the only ones to correctly predict a lot of the plot points of TLJ, whereas most other theories were completely bombed because they were too far fetched and not based on anything in the books/screenplay/scripts/movies/etc. Keep an eye on the Reylos, they'll probably have a lot of answers for episode IX and they'll be about 99% correct.

    • @awakenow7147
      @awakenow7147 6 років тому +1

      DragonRebelRose I am a covert Reylo. I didn't even like most of TLJ to be honest. But Reylo is really the only thing keeping me remotely interested in the trilogy.

    • @DragonRebelRose
      @DragonRebelRose 6 років тому +4

      Same, because honestly it's something we haven't seen in Star Wars yet on the big screen, a romance between two enemies, a romance between a dark side user and a light side user. It's the most original thing in the new trilogy and I can't wait to see where they take it. ^-^

    • @awakenow7147
      @awakenow7147 6 років тому +4

      DragonRebelRose Indeed! I agree that it is something fresh and new. They have been trying new ideas in places where they might not belong(Luke). But Reylo is something I was able to jump onboard with immediately. Not to mention the fact that it could be symbolic. If Ben and Rey were to be together, it would almost be like a form of healing for the Skywalker bloodline. The Skywalkers seem to have a problem with relationships in general. Anakin's dysfunctional/possessive relationship with Padme, Luke pretty much became a monk in regards to romance(as far as we know), And Leia couldn't make it work with Han...nor was she really the best mother for Ben due to her busy life and lack of trust in her son.
      I think if Ben can redeem himself, he would be able to mend a lot of his family's wounds. As of now, he his a completely toxic person for Rey. But one of his redeeming qualities is his powerful capacity for empathy and being able to read other people. Rey might just be the person who can bring that out of him. She seems to be the only person who can get through to him on any level.

    If Ben was with Luke at the time it is hard to believe Snoke would allow him to be in on the plot. How long was this before the temple burns? Also does this excuse Luke for his actions, because Ben was already so far gone he was involved in a plot to kill Leia

    I find it really bizarre that Rian Johnson had to be the one to flesh this out and not JJ Abrams. I used to have a lot of faith in the story group, they have handled the non-movie continuity really well. The lack of real planning for the course of the sequel trilogy is just really bizarre to me thought. There doesn't appear to be much thought in it at all. I appreciate giving directors freedom to do what they want in their own movies, but it seems to be making the trilogy lack cohesion. I like Rian's work, and I think his trilogy will be great because he will be helming all three films.

    • @CULater000
      @CULater000 6 років тому +19

      Jon Taylor It's not unusual for film productions. Normally, only simultaneous productions or adaptations have a full outline from the start. The original trilogy itself is a great example of how a series develops and changes from installation to installation. The sequel trilogy was planned to be made by different directors from the start, so that meant that things were intentionally left vague to leave space for future ideas

    • @ccmaster86
      @ccmaster86 6 років тому +7

      Jon Taylor That's exactly my problem as well. I didn't want to believe they would actually be so aimless with the new trilogy especially with the story group in place, but with the inside info coming out about how there may have not been any outlines in place for the story as a whole..it's just upsetting.

    • @CaptainPikeachu
      @CaptainPikeachu 6 років тому +22

      Jon Taylor except the story group doesn’t decide on overarching story for a trilogy, they’re just the ones making sure canon stays intact and that no one is deviating too much and if there is deviation then they step in the bridge the gaps - saying that the sequel trilogy lacks cohesion of an overarching story plot and then saying you used to have faith in the story group is really a misplaced blame - the story group doesn’t make the decisions, that’s up to the directors and writers and studio heads like Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger - they’re the ones with the power, the story group only looks over what is already decided to make sure it doesn’t go completely out of whack. So really your sentence should be, you used to have faith in Lucasfilm and not targeted at the story group itself. They can only give advice, they have no power to decide for a director or writer or studio head if that person wants something

    • @Rilhon
      @Rilhon 6 років тому +3

      Agreed. If they had a basic story line for these three movies each director could still very much put his own twist on it, i.e. how it looks, sounds, minor storyline beats and so on. Either way, I think what we got was okay. Like you said though, I definitely look forward to his trilogy as they will all likely have a plan laid out for them in the beginning.

    • @45TRANSFORMERSFAN
      @45TRANSFORMERSFAN 6 років тому +4

    This can’t be right. Most of the references to Ben in the book are about how Leia misses him but she doesn’t know where he is or how to contact him because he is off training with Luke. If Ben was able to somehow find out about this First Order assassination attempt long before he even joined the first order, and somehow get to the planet his mother was on why would he just leave a note on a napkin and not just tell her himself? Would he and Luke have at least talked to Leia if they were on the same planet and in such a close vicinity? This is a real reach and I don’t think there’s any chance it could be right. Ryan Johnson might just like ink and quills, but don’t we all?

    This is a pretty fun theory, but I have a problem with this theory to be honest:
    1. Luke was training Ben on another planet at the time when the assassination attempted took place, so I don't think Ben would've been able to deliver that napkin to Leia when that happened.

Which kind of brings another question to mind, why was is so easy for Ben to murder his father when he mentions being neglected and unwanted by both his parents in the last jedi novelization. Did he have more hatred for Han and why so?

    • @FireheartSamurai
      @FireheartSamurai 4 роки тому

      Ben probably because of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Satine Kryze called Obi Wan, Ben. Obi Wan used Ben as his name for hiding out on Tattooine. Most likely Han & Leia named their son after Ben (Obi Wan) Kenobi.

    • @commontater652
      @commontater652 4 роки тому

      @@FireheartSamurai Right, but In-Universe it seems unlikely Han or Leia would choose to do that.

    • @FireheartSamurai
      @FireheartSamurai 4 роки тому

      Common Tater It depends in all honesty. Leia could’ve named her son Ben because of Bail Organa. Bail helped raised Leia on Aldeeran, & Bail told Leia stories of Obi Wan Kenobi about how he was a good guy & all. Irl people get named after different characters like Zelda from the Zelda games, after celebrities, after someone like a deceased loved one, or other things. So it’s not that surprising Leia named her son after a respectable Jedi that her father knew & heard stories of.

      Director Kid I liked the movie, and that does not mean I’m blind. The exact same can be said on the other side of the coin. There is a lot of blind hate for the film as well. I acknowledge the criticism, but I take the film as a story connecting a universe, as what Star Wars is. I do praise you on being very mature in your comment though. Not many people explain there side, thus where much of the blindness is from.

    The implication of that is Ben was affiliated with the first order before the news of his ancestory even came out. And he some how managed to get a hand written note from the Academy to Hosian. And that his affiliation with the First Order was both force and politics based, to the extent he'd be aware of the actions of the Amaxine Warriors.

    I can't get into the idea. I think the calligraphy is more of a callback to Seven Samurai, and foreshadowing the connection to his grandfather. I feel like that revelation that Darth Vader is connected to him would be an important part of his resentment that drives him down the path he follows. I'm sure Snoke had been stoking his emotions, but I don't think he'd revealed that before Bloodline. I can just imagine the other students reactions to Ben after that revelation, isolating him from his peers, and that feels appropriate to the story.
    You also have to jump onboard with the idea that Ben would have almost certainly needed to be present to do this, hidden from Leia both physically and in the force (not to mention Luke failing to bring up Ben's fall to the darkside for several months). On the other hand, if you assume it was just the Amaxine sewing chaos that's much easier to put together.

    I don’t buy this. I still think Ben was good at this point or at least not involved with the First Order or certainly not involved enough that he would know the exact details of the plot to kill his mother. It’s simply a coincidence to set off an action scene in the book. The use of handwriting is there because it was hastily written and supposed to be hidden. If someone recorded a Star Wars universe Snapchat to warn Leia, it would just lead to more logistical questions as to its creation and delivery than a note would.

  • @dracoeris
    @dracoeris 6 років тому +24

    this is weak. honestly you guys are just trying to draw a connection here beyond what is probably thought out by anyone at lucasfilm.
    not only that but the how would ben (he was still ben at around the book bloodline) find out about the bombing? let alone know exactly the moment to deliver a message on a napkin. even if through the force he had a vision, how would it be possible to get the note on a napkin to his mom from the jedi temple unless for some reason he travelled there to write it. but how and why.
    it makes far more sense that the note came from someone in the know of the plot nearby.
    your theory is pushing suspension of disbelief here. it isn't mind blowing at all. next you're gonna say ben used the world between worlds to get a napkin note to his mother.

      with some time to digest this theory i would like to say that it is a neat headcannon that could open a range of story telling opportunities.
      we know next to nothing about the ben to kylo path. we know almost nothing about ben and luke and their time training and ben's seduction to the dark side.
      it is definitely noteworthy that ben and the students of luke's school learned calligraphy and read from real physical books. rian johnston seems to want to place grounded, older and less technologically reliant seeds into star wars and i'm not saying that's something to be ignored when it's clearly deliberate.
      but i don't see it directly implying that ben wrote a note on a napkin with his calligraphy set.
      if anything the note shows that in a galaxy as large as the star wars one, even old fashioned means of communication can save the day.
      perhaps the note came from a lower class servant who had only outdated and largely primitive tools available to them. or perhaps there is some other origin of the note.
      star wars is an ever evolving story and as different creative minds tinker with threads left around sometimes it's picking up subtle and barely connected threads that can make a neat story.
      so while i continue to say it's a weak connection to make a snoke theory about, i don't mean weak to imply it's impossible or silly or a wasteful thing to pose as a question. perhaps it could turn out true that there is indeed something to be expanded upon.
      i don't want it to seem like i'm one of those perpetually bitter star wars fans that scoff at all theories or questions. but my initial reaction to this theory has somewhat eased. now all that's needed is to wait and see what other details might be added as we go forward.
