the ice magic is some of the funniest shit i've seen in a video game, the fact it entirly boils down to "freeze the floor and watch enemy slip" is fucking hilarous
Or freeze the enemy and put them somewhere funny.

I fucking love this game so much. Something about a fantasy game in Source just feels right, and it's a shame we don't have more of them.
Honestly, it had a lot going on for a game of it's age. It was a first person action with magic before Skyrim or later Witchers, it mentioned characters from Heroes V which is cool and the plot wasn't too bad.
@@ferdithetank7535 Also even though it was older than skyrim it had a way better first person combat system. Still one of the best all these years later.
@@shadowflame2010yeah the combat compared to Skyrim in dark messiah feels way better it’s obviously less in depth than Skyrim and there’s less weapons but just based off of it how feels it feels way less bland and clunky and the swords actually feel sharp rather than cardboard.

Well, it does seem to be Shady Knight without the grapple dagger...
Ngl even with all the jank (or maybe because of it) this game looks so incredibly fun. Not only is the ragdoll stuff absolute comedy gold, but the various different spells you can cast and the way they interact with the environment are pretty interesting and it looks like a ton of fun to make enemies lose their footing or bonk 'em on the head with a barrel.
Yeah, Dark Messiah actually does its best to make a lot of use of the engine it picked. It turns out there's a lot of things you can do with magic and physics! It may look goofy because they're trying to do some REALLY ambitious stuff for the time when the game was released (and because the voice acting is, uh), but on a fundamental mechanical level it's way more _game_ than some modern games can manage with stronger tools.

I finally discovered an upper limit to my roommate’s spice tolerance.
I found a bag of Sweet Carolina Reaper-flavored Cheetos (my brother in Christ, it doesn’t matter if it’s sweet or not, you won’t be tasting anything after your tastebuds are all scorched), and the second she opened the bag, I just about suffocated to death and she started choking on her own spit.
It’s two months later and she still hasn’t finished the bag yet, and has outright told me those will probably put her off of spicy food forever when she does.

As someone whose spice tolerance is so low that I once vomited from eating some low-grade spicy hot wings from Walmart, I relate to the bit with the spicy food a little too much.
Obviously the regular funny ragdolls in this game are already amazing, but the ice spell funny ragdolls in this are fucking SUBLIME. 10/10, 100/100. A masterpiece.

As soon as I saw the title, I knew in my heart that you were going to make a shadow wizard money gang reference. Way to never disappoint!
Until he mentioned J.K. Rowling, I thought he was talking about Magicka as being the inferior wizard game, and that he was objectively WRONG. On that note he should play it, it's stupid and fun.

What's really sad is that this, at the time, was going to be a new IP, but Ubisoft forced the devs to tie it into Might & Magic despite it having nothing to do with it - which they did by just slapping the name on it. It ended up causing fans of Might & Magic to not really get into it because M&M is, put bluntly, a turn-based strategy series, and people who were put off by M&M because of that ended up skipping this game because it was "part of the series." It only got popular retroactively when word started getting around how fun the physics based combat was.
Extra bit of trivia - the same devs went on to make PREY 2017, another game that's only retroactively popular, because the same thing happened again; it has nothing to do with PREY but Zenimax forced them to put the title on it since they had the IP laying around and had to use I as some point.
