    I love these aprons. Have watched the video and made the kid’s pattern, but it’s still too large for my grand babies. How do you suggest I alter the pattern to make one 17” and one 13” instead of the 21” from your pattern? I think I just need to know the measurement from top to where the armhole ends (kid’s pattern you said to measure down 9 inches). Gosh, I hope this makes sense.

      Yes makes perfect sense! I have a tiny painting smock for my preschoolers that’s the right size. I’m not in my sewing room now but when I get down there I’ll compare the smock to my pattern and give you some adjusted measurements

    Thanks so much, darling... I'm sending my daughter in Italy a box of baking supplies as she wants to start making breads and biscuits and an apron will be a perfect addition!!! I'm so very surprised that you use Isacord for all your sewing! I always thought an embroidery thread would not be strong enough, but I'm going to order some and try it on my machine. They do have some amazing colors! And also, thanks for all your mask making. I made over 300 for my local nursing homes, veterans and homeless population. Giving back sure makes you feel good!

      He Gerri! That’s awesome your daughter is in Italy my sister just relocated to Amsterdam and she’s into baking too. She was surprised at how small the bags of flour are over there lol. I should probably send her an apron too 🤦🏻‍♀️ sister fail lol. And yes I’m isacord obsessed! Im hoping I might be able to get some kind of sponsorship going with them in the future since I promote their product so much 🤗 fingers crossed!

      Let’s see if I can type this in a way that makes sense. …If you start with a piece of freezer paper you’re gonna want a rectangle that is 28in long x 16in. wide. Start by marking the left side of the pattern as the FOLD. On the right hand side of the paper measure down 13in from the top corner and make a mark. This is the point where the waist bands will connect. From this point draw a nice curving line down to the bottom tip of the left/FOLD side… cutting off the bottom right hand corner to create that nice bottom half bell shape. To create the neck line you will measure from the left/FOLD side across the top edge of the pattern. Make a mark at 3in and then another mark at 6.5in. From this 6.5in point draw a long line down sweeping out to connect with the 13in mark for the waist band. You want this line to be mostly vertical only beginning to sweep out towards the waist in the last 2-3 inches. To complete neck line, working on the left/FOLD side of the pattern come down 2in and then cut in 2in… from this point make an angled cut up to the marking you made at 3in. completing the cut out for the neckline.
      I recommend the waist band strips be 3in wide by at least 30in long…they can be longer if your a bigger girl like me I like mine closer to 34in 😉 the neck straps should be 2.5in wide and approx. 20-21in long… you can make them longer for a taller person. I’m 5’8 and 21in is plenty for me. As for the pockets I’d just click this link for 8:16 and it should take you right to it.

    QUESTION: Being that I am sewing a reversible apron for a couple, I want the threads to match that side of the fabric. One side will contain black and the other red in the background. When I have the right sides together (wrong side facing up), if the black fabric is on top, I thread the top of my sewing maching with black thread? The fabric on the bottom will be red. Do I thread the bobbin thread red?

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  Рік тому

      If you’re sewing with wrong sides together. You are creating a stitch that will be on the inside of the apron so no one will see that part so it doesn’t matter which thread you use. I will often sew all
      My inside out pieces with just plain white thread and save my cute colored threads for the detail top stitches you will add later on. Once you turn all the prices right sides out it will be easy to tell which thread belongs in the bobbin because you can see the prints now.

    Did I Miss something? Are pockets on only one side….no pockets on black fabric?

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 роки тому

      Yes in this pattern the pockets are on one side. You can cut a second set for the reverse side if you choose and just repeat the same process. I just prefer one set because it adds a lot of extra bulk when sewing the layers together and you’ll need more like 1 and 1/4yd if each fabric to accommodate the two extra pockets. 🙂

The regular size spools like you see in my video usually run $6.20 each but you can buy large size spools for less than $11 dollar. If you use a lot like I do it’s worth buying the big spools. Wondering if you have an edited version of this video? I can't handle constant talking for an hour, I just tune out, even fast forwarding doesn't help much. I can't finish watching this one.

      I’m sorry I don’t. It’s a step by step video with troubleshooting included so the video is as long as it takes to actually complete the apron. My bbq apron video is brand new and the process is almost identical just a different shape pattern. Maybe that one will be easier for you to process. I’ll post the link for you.

      You’re comment cracked me up because it’s the exact opposite of what most people say. Most people think sewing videos don’t give enough explanation so they have trouble completing the project. But I get what you’re saying. This was one of my first videos ever. I’ve gotten a little better at stream lining them as time goes on. There’s definitely a learning curve to being a UA-cam creator 😉

      I agree it’s killing me . Too long and should have all the dimensions written down

    How about all the measurements? The dimensions. Who has over an hour sheesh

      What an incredibly rude comment! The video is an hour because it’s an in depth start to finish tutorial for a beginner. I spent hours filming and editing this video FOR FREE to try and help people learn to sew… you are literally the only person who has EVER left a negative comment. If you have no patience perhaps sewing is not the best hobby for you 😉 I have never ever left a response to anyone like this in my 15 years of teaching but your comment is ridiculous… who would make a tutorial that didn’t include measurements 🤣 you don’t even have the patience to fast forward SHEESH!!! Quality products take time and I only make quality products.

      Also news flash the video is less than an hour long… you don’t even have the patience to get your complaints correct 🤣🤣🤣

      @@MaryMakes sewing has taught me a lot about my impatience. Just learning to slow down and enjoy the process and creative art. I have to keep reminding myself that I can’t complete a garment in an hour. Anyway thanks for the spanking lol . Sorry if I came across rude. It was an exasperating Saturday and nothing was making sense to me. ❤

      I’m sorry you had a bad day! Hopefully your day got better and you found a project that worked for you. Also I should mention I sell the freezer paper templates for all my patterns so if you want to simplify the process you can always purchase the pre-cut template from my Etsy shop and then you don’t even have to worry about measuring 😉
