Novablast 5 been using these for easy daily runs over the last week , ran these in anger for the first time this morning and boy are these good ..booom!
I found the shoe great to run in. I have hurt my knee, torn meniscus and finally managed to do a 5 km run (30 mins) yesterday without even thinking about my knee. The shoe seemed very soft and absorbed the impact. My Major goal for the year is now Sydney Maraphon, hoping to crack 3 hrs.
Absolutely 100% agree with you on this. Brilliant all rounder running shoe. Best £135 i've spent and ended up buying a pair for my brother too who has got back into his running. I did love the novablast 4, but as you say, version 5 seems to be a little more of a grown up version 😂. Great review 👌. Keep up the great work !
Hey Chris, A couple of the shoes in the background shot look pretty tasty. Thanks for another simple, informative review. I've not yet tried this version but have owed others. I managed to put 1100km in a pair of version 2, and apart from the uppers wearing though, the ride remained as consistent as ever. Traction sucked back then too, so clearly the R&D funds went into remedying other, more pressing issues 😂
Perfectly reviewed Fordy, it's arguably the best daily trainer atm, for the price and what it offers, it's hard to beat vs it's competitors. FYI, the Asics Dynablast 5 is basically Novablast 3 with a different upper, but the same midsole geometry and compound!
Thank you for this review as I have been hesitating about this shoe after seeing other reviews. My current marathon rotation is the Saucony Triumph 21s (still with plenty of tread and I like for it's stability) and the Superblast 2s which I would like to preserve for higher speed work runs, so I'm looking something to augment this rotation. I will probably go for this now following your review. Thanks.
Excellent Chris. Now it would be nice to have a review and a comparison review between this one and the new Mizuno Neo Zen. Comparison in terms of (mild )stability interest me the most. Keep up the good work.
I have to agree with you Chris. So far I’ve worn them to work as well as running park runs along with a few longer distances. Considering Asic are not known for having the best grip, but the Novablast 5 have been pretty good so far
Hi Chris, great review ... the best daily trainer currently out there (by a mile!). The new foam is a joy to run in and quite responsive for faster efforts, a massive step change from the foam they used in the Novablast 4 which felt dead. It's that good, I'm actually wondering whether its worth shelling an extra £70 for Superblast 2 as Novablast 5 is so agile and comfortable ... even on longer runs!
Loving it. I had a run in it the other day and got lost in my thoughts. Before i knew it. 20 minutes had past. It is super comfy. I will say for me though. It took me about 50km to really properly vibe with it.
100 miles in my pair and it’s a good shoe, but not without issues. I’m not convinced by the grip and rubbing issues on the outside on my big toe - neither have been issues in the trusty Boston 12. Happy with them enough for this training block, but not 100% sure I’d buy them again personally.
Been eyeing on Novablast 5/Ride 17 for my marathon training block. Im M27, 5'9", 158lbs (174cm, 71kg), training 35-42 kpw with Pegasus 39. My longest run is 24km at 6:19/km, 5K PB at 26:15 (5:15/km), and fastest 1K at 3:40/km. Currently aim for sub 1:55 half mara and sub 4:10 marathon next year. Does Novablast 5 suitable for my figures and target and can handle 25-35km long run? Plan to build 2 shoe rotation with Saucony Ride 17/Asics Novablast 5 for daily trainer, and Zoom Fly 6/Saucony Endrophin Pro 4 for long run and race day shoe. Looking for shoe that build like a tank and could rack up 350-400 miles since im on budget.
Thanks Fordy! Perhaps I’ll try this as a new diary trainer. I have the Adidas Pro 3 for race day, and Boston 12’s for interval type stuff but need a new daily trainer. There are so many options now that it’s so overwhelming 🙈
Honestly took me a while with it. I’ve done 74k in my pair and I think it’s only the last 3 runs where I’ve started to “get it” with the shoe. Definitely like it now though!
Massive Novablast fanboy here, put huge mileage in 3&4 and I love how the 5 feels, what I don’t love is the grip! It’s terrible, the NB3 was bad but the NB5 is next level! Damp, green road/pavement it has no traction! I wouldn’t dream of using it in our current weather! Really disappointed. Shame as they could have used the SB2 outsole which works well
Still debating on this one. I have the Evo Sl (not run in them yet) I’ve watched your first review on the Evo Sl and wondering if you will be doing a follow up review. Thanks and nice review👌
I got this to replace my retired endorphin speed 4. It's more fun and relaxed than speed 4. Speed 4 is a touch too firm and somewhat stressful on feet. I wish NB5 is a little bit bouncier, but not as crazy as version 1. Traction is not great though. I have some slippage issues, especially on titled surfaces. I am a mid foot striker, maybe my footsteps mainly hit on the grooves rather than on the rubbers.
100% agree with grip issues, I’ve found it really bad! Eddbud suggested taking sandpaper to the outsole to improve it! Fordy must have a good one as he is saying grip is goo no issues! Two guys in my club having same grip issues
Fordy love your work long time watcher, I am currently in marathon training first 1 April and my daily is in suoerblast 2.as we no it does everything but can you give me anything about novablast 5 could be better choice as daily...I'm a lucky one price not really in my lane...I run 4 marathons a year so it's about the shoes to me...😂😂 I have not put them on 5 but felt them and felt soft tbh love the superblast as firm but responsive....cush not really my thing if to soft
I just got the novablast 3. , 4 months ago for the 1st time o ran a 12 k a few days ago and it was ok but im not as impressed as others and will probably stick with a couple other shoes ive been wearing for years, the tongue doesnt stay in the 3s and o didnt feel as comfortable on my feet when done, just my opinion on the 3, so i dont know if i want to risk trying the 5
Hey Chris, how soft v5 is compared to ver 4 or 3 ?? Ver 3 felt to soft and mushy for me at 95kg body weight, wanted to try 4 as it has same foam as nimbus which i like but wasn't fan of its upper and didn't find lite versoon of 4 Anyway would it be likely if 3 was to soft then ver 5 will be to soft too for my liking ?
I thought NB 3 could have been the best daily trainer of it’s day, except for the grip & a bit of instability from the soft foam. I keep seeing widely diverging opinions on the grip of NB5.
I have the novablast 5 and its pretty good, it seems to get a bit soft around 16 km for me maybe my legs are getting tired, still a great shoe but probably shouldn’t have purchased the white/grey version.
I am using my NB5 and GT2000 in rotation. I run a lot faster on the NB5 with the same heart rate as on the GT2000. Definitely some trampoline effect going on. Since I am on medicines my calf’s get a lot more tired on the NB5 however. I think that is my personal issue 😅
I keep hearing mixed reviews on this shoe. Some love it, others don’t like it, while others are having inconsistent runs in them. So I wouldn’t risk paying $240AUD to try it out and not like it.
To heavy. In todays times why not use peba on 90% shoes so lighter. Most runners have money so just replace more often as peba not super durable. Lighter but still lots of cushioning from peba foam probably to somewhat prevents injuries. Yes can keep some heavy shoes with regular cheap foam for heavy and younger runners without joint issues.

Never had a Novablast but as I look to add a daily trainer later this spring, it’ll be in the running 😎

@@FordyRunsWill you be reviewing the Versablast Fordy? On my radar as a gym shoe.
Great 👌 review Fordy keep up the great reviews

Yeah these will work

The neo zen for me is what the nova last series should be especially on the outsole. The neo zen and the evo so have blown past ASICS imo
I defo will do this I’m getting more miles in the zen before a video I don’t want to rush it out

Can't wait for my Neo Zen. Should be delivered next week. I've heard a lot of good things from my environment so far.
They look awesome @@Aron-t6m

It’s a fab shoe, I really enjoy running in it. I have gone down 1/2 a size.
Glad to hear this

Will add it to my "to buy" list. But it's below the Nike Zoomy Fly 6 and Mizuno Neo Zen
Interesting thanks for sharing

Yep filming that next week
@ great stuff 👍
My go to shoe at the moment. Loving the feel underfoot on the mid to long runs and at the price point there’s not much to beat it 😀🏃
Totally agree bro

@ I found the 4 ok, 3 wasn’t great, 5 by far the worst for me! Shame as the SB2 has no issues, they should have gone for the same compound
Grip issues here too. Been a few instances where it’s cause slips mid run.
Thanks for the info mate! Enjoy the reviews!
Qs…would you go the Novablast or Boston 12?
Depends on foam preference the Boston is a lot firmer
Good trainer, wet grip is ok, not the best. Happy with the purchase.
Yeah asics outsoles can always improve
best daily trainers
yeah i like em
can you compare with endophine speed 4. i love it.
Tempted!! Great review - this or the glycerin 22

How does this compare with Vomero 17? Their key differences and similarities?

I’m thinking about it….just expensive in Australia 🇦🇺 $240 vs Puma velocity 3 that can be found for $120.
Ouch
Chris can i run with them to a marathon??
Yep
Outsile for me, zero grip in wet and winter conditions 😢 for the rest, great recovery shoe
Really enjoying mine. Much better than the 4 and closer to the 3 - big 👍 from me

NB5 vs Balos?
NB5
A tad soft for me , I compared to the 1080 in store and this was better and already less soft.
Morning all. ¡¡¡¡Sound mind, sound body!!!!. Like to Fordy. A nice weekend for everyone.
Horrible on wet roads like every Asics shoe
Morning to you
Slower than the previous...can be a recovery shoes?
Sure
What long run and speed shoe could we add to the rotation with this ?
Stick in a super trainer like Hyperion max 2 and the AP4 as race shoe
