- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- A combination of Nick (Tenors) and Paul (Snare) playing SCV's famous cadence, the JSU solo cadence again with a little staging, and Nick knocking out some sweeps from Bill Bachman.
I can’t believe this is from 2006. Time goes by waaaay too fast.
I’m trying to learn this and I was born two months before this video was uploaded…
Can’t believe this was posted my freshman year! Really miss that drum line crew we had!
It's 2023, the world's gone to hell and yet this is still fire.
Although a bit sloppy and they taps are really high, I think these kids are having a lot of fun and I really enjoyed that.
Jake HD these were at the time college students at Hinds community college in Raymond Ms. the One on the left was my drum instructor at that very college from 07-09. He was also the instructor at Ole Miss as well. Now he a high school band director in like oak grove ms.
Brodrick Quick totally forgot about this comment lol. But that’s really cool, especially if you had a history with one of them 👍!
Holy crap you guys nailed it. You make it look so easy and you're all relaxed and having a good time. That's the problem with some players now, they play just for competition, not for fun. Oh, and I like the little tenor part in the solo cadence. Its easy, but it goes so good with the snare.
Chops, but man bring those taps down.
0:52 to 1:05 is sooo groovy!! It gets me everytime!
Taps should be at 3" or so, but when the drum is 3" too low, it puts all the taps at 6". Not making excuses, but I was a little out of shape too. Chops weren't quite up to par with Nick's (Tenors) however, I had enough to get by for Junior College. I wasn't trying out for corps like Nick was.
Damn I can't believe this just popped up. I used to watch this and all of your other videos religiously when I was like 15 trying to get good at drums
The Electric Wheelchair sounds like the 2002 one. I really like it. Is there anyone have the snare and tenor part for it? not the ones from the other years, I like the 2002 one better, :P Thanks
Those sweeps at the end are so clean that I think I might be crying right now.
Tenor player has a DCi championship ring now.
This makes an excellent exercise, not only in snare and quint altos as demonstrated, but also for developing coordinating parts for Scots' 18"x18" tenor drum (soft mallets) and a moderately damped 28"x16" bass drum (hard mallets).
man, Electric wheelchair just grooves. I love it. Also the solo seems quite improved from the first vid. I think my head might explode if you guys try out ditty. Sweet vid dudes.
Oh! So y'all decide to do all of those cadences without me huh? Shame, the shame... Smh. Lol! I miss those days. We got to do something together again one day.
I think the best part about this vid, besides the wonderful playing, is the fact that you guys look like you are having a blast.
For not seeing this video in probably 2 or so years, it still irritates me on the guy that pushes the kid out just to come in and play sloppy as hell and mess with what they had going. Oh so funny to some, i dont know about you but i take my rudiments serious. Anybody else same thoughts? Other than that, i love the video still to this day.
yeah i totally agree
They probably planned that lol
You
Guys
Fxing
Rule!!!
I've never seen drumming worth watching on youtube until now. You guys are sick as hell.
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely no need for this much noise. I love it! This is what drumming's about! Nicely done. :D
i like the elegance of movements, the tempo sharpness and the general sound,it's very good
Hey Little Rim Wont hurt No one. Damn good job Dude.
1. the sweeps rock!
2. backsticking? wow.
3. the rolls by the snare that he bounces the stick on the other to do are friggin hard.
well done! go pro!
The snare's arm flare visual at 1:48 .. How is it done? Will anyone be kind enough to explain to me. It looks really cool, and i'd like to know how.
yall are my favorite to watch on youtube because its only 2 people and you can really here whats goin on.
Really nice Casey Claw there man. Really impressive. I think Ive watched this video like 20+ times.
People are commenting on the snare's high sticking, and no one notices the quad player's sticks flying way up there too. I think it adds a visual which allows viewers to SEE the notes, not just hear them, and makes it look cooler. Also, it doesn't matter, since they play in time and in unison, and do an exceptional job with their beats.
If you think the second snare player ruined it, there's something wrong. Everything played is clean, the splitting on the thirty second notes is amazing :D
Well, the drums are actually tilted because of traditional grip. It's in effort to remove any tension caused by the bulging of the right elbow and the left tucked in. It evens it out and allows for a player to play naturally... the reason the grip was invented. But yes, the drum stands are a little low for anyone around the 6' in height people haha. Hints the not so low taps.
I can't believe how well i remember this vid.
You guys rule! I could listen to you and watch you all day!!! Thanks! =)
BRILLIANT... loved that.. great job. you guys make that look so easy .. it almost drives me nuts
DANG!!!! that was solid, dont ever stop drumming!!
That was AMAZING!!! You kick drumline's ass... But seriously, that was good. Hilarious at that. Awesome seven stroke six where u both were hittin with one stick. Freakin awesome. Keep it up. You should play Tornado... or Stamina... Or a rudimental cookbook piece.
How do you do that Stick Spinning that Paul does, when he performs his solo in the re-visited version? [He rolls and flips his right-hand stick around] If there is a tutorial for this on UA-cam that'd help a lot. Thanks =)
wow, both of you guys are fantastic.
i miss highschool band soo much!
Nice ending on the tenors, not even a rim nicked on the sweeps. Brings back memories....(tear)
@Lvl62paladin It's all good man :D All dead means is that when you have played with drum sticks for so long and particularly done a lot of rim shots with them then they tend to break as you can see on the outside of the stick, but they also tend to hollow out sort of and the stick starts to separate. In turn, this cause the stick to give a "dead" sound, or in other words a hollow sound. You can hear a major different between a brand new stick and an old dead stick.
I bow down to your tenor player...sweet jesus.
Mad chops, guys.
You two are incredible drummers! You should make more videos, methinks; not only are you guys fun to watch, you're technically VERY easy on the eyes! The cymbal in the solo cadence was most hardcore, indeed...! ^_^
If you don't mind me asking, do you have (or know where I could find) music or a transcription of that ending snare lick on the solo cadence? It looks like a lot of fun to play...
ok most people would find something to criticize you on, but.... hell no you guy pulled that off, CONGRATS!!! AND KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!!!
@slipchikin False. Traditional grip is for TILTED snares. Back when traditional grip was invented hundreds of years ago in Europe (even before america was founded) drummers marched with their drums under there left arm. This meant that their left stick needed to come over the rim comfortably, hense the underhand grip. As years passed, the drum was tilted upright until around the 1970s when the carrier was invented. Although the drum can now be completely horizontal, this grip is TRADITIONAL.
It seems to be the original one prior to 2003. Doesn't that one have a 7-stroke roll at the beginning or something?
@xEdgex91 I'm new to drummingm, so I don't know very many terms. What do you mean when you say that his sticks were "dead"?
Man...I completely adore you guys! ^^
Katie
That was pretty cool to watch. Great job guys.
:O now that was the coolest thing ive ever seen!!! you guys rock!
that cadence is soo cool
I like how the tenors make it sound cool
sweet. that solo cadence was awesome. especially when he just jumped in, "HEY".lmao
i fucking love solo pt. II. I just always smile everytime i watch it :) you guys are nasty as hell.
If Nick and Paul was on my old highschool's drumline, it would be the most badass drumline and would have swept out the composition! Awesome drumming!!!
Wow! You guys are amazing!
How do u do the thing with the snare and the sticks and the twisting and all that stuff at 1:50 or during the snare solo thingy?
Good morning thousands of sweeps!
First of all I love this video.
Secondly what kind of tenors and snare is that?
nice job; drum line has come a long way since we did it in the 80's :-)
keep up the good work
dude youre really good...especially since you wrote some of those other things in your other videos. thanks for the inspiration
how do u do the back sticking thing at 1 50...the one with just the one hand..i never understood that..i k how do back sticking..jsut not that thing he did wit only his right hand...if u know..please reply...
what school do you guys go to? thats incredible. especially the opies opus. the solo cadence was awesome too.
Those tenor solos were legit. Nice job.
Sweet lord baby Jesus. I'm not big on drumline videos online, but this is amazing!!!!
crazy, damn, i hope i can meet you guys one day...ignore my videos they're old crappy set vides of me when i just started drumming, i've made center snare on the THS drumline here in WNC. We're the best around and have all the trophies, plachs, and awards to prove it, but damn that was some crazy shit, love it.
hey at 1:13 did u guys change the sticking because im tryin to get that part down, if u did can u tell wat u changed it to
very well done guys. fun to watch drummers having... uh, fun!
@Cheznikkkk considering that Nick is playing "Opie's Opus" which is a hard tenor solo ment for advanced players he can play it well considering its made up of nothign but Spiders and rolles and dittles
wow guys that's pretty sweet! I'm a quad player myself so thumbs up for ya. Love the snare solo's. awesome job guys
The splits at the end of the cadence are SICK dude!!!
Hey Paul, which sticks are you using????
So amazing to listen and watch u playing!!!
Does anybody know how the tenor solo in Electric Wheelchair is actually written out? I have 3 transcriptions and they're all different.
where can i get or buy this sheet music for snare?...if some-1 would tell me that would be GREAT
Very nice, have these guys signed up for any Corps?
that was really impressive at the end with the split 32nds.
does nick have a channel by any chance? i want to see more of his bad assness lol
I want more! When's the next video?!?!?
This rocks! You two sound great!!
@AziZune Got it. I think the actual name is the Casey Claw or something like that, no idea, DCI started it. This one's inverted. In the original, you just hold the right stick about in the center, up like you're backsticking it, then spin it back and forth, alternating hitting the butt and tip. Once you practice and get it up to speed it can be fast enough to turn it into a triplet or double stroke roll.
The helicopter, FYI, is a claw with both hands. Bitch to do it, but it looks ridiculous.
ok im a noob snare player just fyi but whats the trick called on the second solo of the solo cadence? the one where he like rotates the stick on the drum under the other stick that was fucking epic and id love to learn that
You guys are soooooooooo raw. Oh my gosh. Both of you are friggin amazing. Are y'all in a corps?
he has the snare tilted because their DL prolly doesnt have the full torso harness. They prolly have the sash type harness, which cause the snares to be tilted. that look gives them a more traditional look, giving style points.
Paul, have you/are you going to audition for dci? cause you're definitely dci quality.
How does he do his backsticking SO clean at 1:48?? Anyone know that technique, and where I can learn it?
this wat we need more on youtube; happy drumming. something taht makes you smile after you see it! :D
amazing..great job
by the way, any chance i could get the sheet music for solo cadence, or at least where to buy it.
Ah, guess I missed that. My bad. But that usually is why most bands angle the snares (Traditional Grip), but I guess it would probably be more common in corps style bands.
Holly crap!!!! you guys need to try out for Santa Clara or Blue devils. Im a snare player myself but no where near the caliber you guys are.
@MooberrieBear no, where they in high school when they made this?
Omfg that tenor play is SO clean!
I'm in the Hurst Drumline and I need to know how to play Electric Wheelchair. That song is beast.
that was amazing. simply amazing.
and the rest of the video is inhumanly insane
holy crap we played this at the Northwestern State University Drumline Camp this past year and our drumline only has tri-toms so yeah...i wish i would have been on bass XD...very nicely done though
Man paul u kick some serious ass. Are you drum captain? What school are yall
Uh, just so you know JessOnTheRun. Nick is an extremely talented DCI tenor player now.
Hopefully you were just being ignorant. That's what I'm HOPING though.
There are harnesses hanging right behind them. The drums are tilted just because they use traditional grip.
awesome snare and tenor player you guys really have a talent i'm close to ripping up that song on tenors
Oh my.. I need a towel I just jizzed all over myself from Nick. How the hell could a guy be so good?!? Never heard a rim!!! ;O
super clean sweeps, crazyy
Do those tenors have 6 drums? Awesome.
You guys rock. I really need the music for the House cadence...
During 1:49, what is Paul doing with his left hand?
