  • The Hoover Channel will have clips of meetings we recorded that impacted the news in the City of Hoover. We call these "The Week in Review" (TWIR)
    This week we feature break down the false remarks made by Hoover City Council President John Lyda to WBRC Fox6 after the August 5, 2024 Council regarding Resolution 8188-24. We give a timeline of how the city handled livestreaming of Council meetings, then break down Mr. Lyda's remarks.

    2015 - Hoover Resident Dan Fulton Records audio of Council meetings and uploads them to his UA-cam Channel: / @df1099999
    2016 - Newly Elected City Council begins to stream meetings using an iPad and uploading to the city's UA-camChannel
    2020 - Council Chambers are remodeled and new $370,000 AV system includes cameras for recording meetings
    8/2022 - City deletes all meeting videos from 2016-2022 from their UA-cam Channel
    9/2022 - Council President Lyda institutes a new streaming policy that mandates that the stream
    will only start with Action Items and stop at end of Action Items, thus omitting presentations, proclamations, Council comments and Public Comments.
    11/2022 - Robin Schultz finds the deleted videos and downloads them, then uploads them to the newly created The Hoover Channel's UA-cam Channel, preserving them in perpetuity.
    3/2023 - The Hoover Channel begins livestreaming meetings in their entirety, including Public Comments.
    5/2024 - Robin Schultz is asked to draft an ordinance that will restore the streaming of the full Council meetings and Work Sessions.
    8/5/2024 - Council votes and approves Resolution 8188-24, which restores full streaming.

    I've always found all of our city council members, including Mr. Lyda to be very transparent. Most of them will meet with anyone in the city to address questions. Lyda in particular has always been very responsive to any concerns or questions that I've ever had. Can't say I've seen him really lie about anything. Even in this video, what you're saying is just spin, that no doubt some people will eat up. I understand the need for transparency, but these videos seem to be by folks who seem intent on division within our city. Possibly for political purposes?

    saywhatnow...go try and find a copy of last years fiscal year end financials or any financial statements since...
    You have a strange view of transparency.

      At the moment it would appear that has nothing to do with a desire to be less transparent. You can't find those because they are still part of an audit (which doesn't necessarily mean anything nefarious has happened).
