Also.....(and I just spent a bit of time looking into this) I believe the Varathane you bought from Home Depot is the same as the one you're buying from polymerclayexpress (which I also use and love). It used to be called Flecto. It is owned and made by RustOleum now and Flecto is no longer involved. However, some people still call it Flecto.
Great video! I'll be considering each brand in the long run. But out of all of your comparisons, which would you recommend the most for small acrylic-painted figurines? Could anyone else suggest as well? Thanks!
THANK YOU FOR THE REVIEW! it helped a lot((: i would have never thought of using those other glazes, i was wondering if you can buy the flecto glaze at michaels?
I have used sculpey and it was awful. So I now have triple thick, and I have noticed that one out of every ten(or so) things I have glazed with it has become sticky and now I am scared to use it. I would use resin but I had ez cast and it never turned out right for me. Is the resin mentioned in the video a two part resin that I have to mix? That is what is stopping me from getting it.
Thank you great tutorial video on glazes, I had use Sculpey glaze put it away and now its separated a hard crystal pearl has develop on the bottom of the bottle and free standing liquid. Its time to expand my horizons. Thank you again.
Wish there was mare details of what these people find that works for the products they make like such and such works great on flat polymer trinkets, Do you aan Do you add a thin coat before baking and more after?
Hi~ I bought 2 of the glazes you mentioned in this video.... diamond flecto & the golden varnish and I didn't like either of them. You had to put 15 coats to get a good shine. I like a really high gloss shine like you get from the triple thick but as you said it gets sticky. Any other suggestions?? Thanks for sharing.
thanks for the honesty, very helpful. I used to use triple thick and it was really nice at first but after being used for a little while it almost seemed like the glaze was melting or turning a little sticky :( I will try one of your suggestions next
Hi:) I want to ask. Is Reeves Acrlic Gloss Varnish good for polymer clay? Because acrylic has same component with polymer clay I think. So is it good? please reply ASAP
I've been using Sculpey for two months and I just bought a new bottle and I don't have the reciept. Darn I need to save money. Sculpey glaze is about $5 where I live! I think I'll go for the Varathane Polyurethane when I can :) THANK YOU!
I'm a starter. I just went to Michaels and I bought the sculpey glaze. I did research on everything else but I forgot to look up glaze. I'm really lucky I still have my receipt and also I haven't used it either so thank you!
can you do a video showing like a charm you glazed with each glaze as like a reference? because i'm thinking about buying varathane b/c i'm using triple thick right now and i dont like it D:
Thank you for this video!!! It's super helpful..I've only used triple thick(and a cheap paint varnish before that) and I liked it, it's ok, but I will definately keep your input in mind when I go to get some more glaze!!!
Great info. Thanks for the tips - especially on the Sculpey Glaze since you would think that would be the best one. I almost bought that the other day and it was almost $9.00 for that small bottle at Michaels here in Canada.
hello..do you have to thin the golden uv sealer to glaze on your charm? do you have to bake it after seal it? thank you.. I'm waiting for your answer ^^
Great video - I sell my pieces on eBay/Etsy (CreatingCottage) & totally agree... do NOT use Sculpy or 3 thick, they will turn sticky. How sculpy glaze is allowed to be sold as a useful product is beyond me? Thank you for the new-to-me info on the Golden Varnish - can't wait to try it. Diamond Flecto from PolymerClayExpress is worth it, that version of Varathane is $40+ a gallon when I buy from Lowes.
I thought it was just me with the Sculpey gloss glaze. I thought I wasn't using it right. Thanks for doing this video, because I needed some new ideas for clay glaze. so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...:oD.
how do you use this resin on clay beads, do you have a video on this. like I mean make the beads out of clay bake it and than use the resin, can you please explain or do a video on it....maybe like the pandera beads (something like that) c.c.
Alright!! This helps out a lot!!! Yea, I have been using the crap product (sculpey), and I use it only for polymer clay, after watching this I will def check some of your picks! Also always wondered about glazing clay w/resin. THANKS
How did you use Golden Varnish Polymer Gloss properly? I tried this once on my creations but it became sticky after 2-3 days... Does this should be thinned first with water???
Thank you for making this video! I've been looking for PU varnish for some time but can't seem to find it...gotta get my tooshie downtown and buy it on the "specialists" shop. :)
Thank-you sooo much for this video! I was getting realllly tired of my polymer clay pieces getting ruined by cheap glazes. Not only is it really frustrating (especially when you've spent a long time on a piece) but it's very embarrassing when it's given to someone only to have it slowly lose quality :/
I thought I was the only one that hates the sculpey glaze. It never dries so it stays sticky. I was sure I was doing something wrong and maybe I needed to bake the glaze but I see this isn't the case. Thanks for the video!
Tracy Lustick I'm not sure what you're referring to. Here's a link to Home Depot, for instance. www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-qt-Clear-Semi-Gloss-Water-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-2-Pack-200141H/202057133
Tracy Lustick Duly edited, with my apologies. I won't justify my rudeness by describing the hours I've spent online studying the pros and cons of different glazes and constantly running across misinformation. No excuses.
Tracy Lustick Thanks. You may well be right about the resin - I was hoping to avoid all the mixing, mess, etc. If I had a bunch of pieces to glaze, preparing the resin would be more worthwhile. I was also thinking about clear embossing powder (that you melt with a heat gun). I did a piece with Dimensional Magic and it looks great, but I have questions about the durability with a wearable item.
Hello..Miss, please help me. I cant find Varathane Polyurethane Gloss in my country or online. if I use MinWax Polycrylic? is it ok? Does it has the same effect as Varathane? no crack, sticky or turn yellow? Help me TxT
What if you dip it in varathane first, then dip it in Holloway house quick shine floor finish? I bet it would be super shiny. You should try it out and tell me how it does, or I will and let you know! :)
The sculpy Glaze has actually gone up its 5.99 when I bought it. Sadly I did not watch this video first u.u I did watch before wasting more money on triple thick.
If you are going to show how different glazes, you should show each one on clay. Then show them after they dry and then a week later. All your offering right now is your opinion.
@DevalyciousDesigns and yes there almost the same thing but the verathane I showed in the video I not the diamond verathane that is the one flecto is and it's $50 a gallon at home depot
OMG! You cracked me up with the "sculpy sucks"!!!! Thanks for all the tips!
Also.....(and I just spent a bit of time looking into this) I believe the Varathane you bought from Home Depot is the same as the one you're buying from polymerclayexpress (which I also use and love). Thank you for your candor! I'm beginning my endevor in polymer clay, and the TRUTH is soooo helpful! Thanks bunches

I use the 'Varathane and it works really good. But it is as you say you need to do more than one layer to get a nice shine.
Will the water based polyurethane stick to polymer clay if you have used any oil to soften the clay?
Thank you great tutorial video on glazes, I had use Sculpey glaze put it away and now its separated a hard crystal pearl has develop on the bottom of the bottle and free standing liquid. Its time to expand my horizons. Thank you again.
Wish there was mare details of what these people find that works for the products they make like such and such works great on flat polymer trinkets,
Do you aan
Do you add a thin coat before baking and more after?
Thank you for the review. My only wish was to include an example of how they actually used the glaze on.
should I use polyurethane glaze for air dry clay?
Thank you for an excellent review of glaze alternatives. I'm new and you helped me select some of the products I need to get started.
I appreciate this video

This video really helped. I do have a quick question though is the polyurethane flammable?
thanks for the honesty, very helpful. I used to use triple thick and it was really nice at first but after being used for a little while it almost seemed like the glaze was melting or turning a little sticky :( I will try one of your suggestions next

Thanks for making this I had no idea about all the glaze for clay. I want to start making clay charms but we'll see what happens :)
Thank you for this video!!! It's super helpful..I've only used triple thick(and a cheap paint varnish before that) and I liked it, it's ok, but I will definately keep your input in mind when I go to get some more glaze!!!

So... what do you REALLY think of Sculpey glaze? ;)
haha! Yeah - she really shouldn't hold back. Bad for the blood pressure. That said, I'm glad to know I made a good choice and DIDN't chose Scykpty.
Have you tried future floor polish? I have seen it recommended on some sites, and they claim it is thinner than varathane.
hello..do you have to thin the golden uv sealer to glaze on your charm? do you have to bake it after seal it? thank you.. I'm waiting for your answer ^^
Hi was jus wondering do I need to rebake the beads to seal da varnish. I used Golden polymer varnisb. Do Lemme know :)
Great video - I sell my pieces on eBay/Etsy (CreatingCottage) & totally agree... do NOT use Sculpy or 3 thick, they will turn sticky. It's really good!!!! It worth it if u have 200 or less it don't even out only
I thought it was just me with the Sculpey gloss glaze. I thought I wasn't using it right. Thanks for doing this video, because I needed some new ideas for clay glaze. so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...:oD.
do you reccomend nail polish?
do we use these glazes after we take our beads out of the oven and they have cooled off or when? please let me know...
Yeah you apply glaze when it's out the oven and cooled down a little:)
how do you use this resin on clay beads, do you have a video on this. like I mean make the beads out of clay bake it and than use the resin, can you please explain or do a video on it....maybe like the pandera beads (something like that) c.c.

How did you use Golden Varnish Polymer Gloss properly? I tried this once on my creations but it became sticky after 2-3 days... Does this should be thinned first with water???
P.S. I don't think you mentioned it in the video, but approx. how long does it take the flecto glaze to dry?
Thank you for making this video! I've been looking for PU varnish for some time but can't seem to find it...gotta get my tooshie downtown and buy it on the "specialists" shop. :)
Is matte mod podge ok to use? I have that and the sculpey glaze, and I agree with you:/
modge podge is worse than sculpey, it's good as glue but after it dries it's all sticky and is just horrible.
Flecto, is the same company that now makes the polyurethane in the blue can. They just changed the name over time.It is the same product. Good video.
I use Triple Thick and I like it very much. It's really glossy with a glass-like effect but you have to learn to apply it properly because it's thick.
VicLolit I agree I use it and I love the shine it gives. You have to know how to use it.
Nice review.
I never thought to do resin,....wished you showed the glazed pieces....but great job and thanks. e
I thought I was the only one that hates the sculpey glaze. It never dries so it stays sticky. I was sure I was doing something wrong and maybe I needed to bake the glaze but I see this isn't the case. Thanks for the video!
If I want a matte finish, which varathane I have to buy? or it is good to leave parts of polymer clay with no glaze?
its ok with no glaze
FYI Varathane is no longer widely available but you may be able to find it in smaller hardware stores or online.
Tracy Lustick I'm not sure what you're referring to. Here's a link to Home Depot, for instance.
www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-qt-Clear-Semi-Gloss-Water-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-2-Pack-200141H/202057133
It's always nice to meet a kind stranger. It appears in your example I could be mistaken.
Tracy Lustick Duly edited, with my apologies. I won't justify my rudeness by describing the hours I've spent online studying the pros and cons of different glazes and constantly running across misinformation. No excuses.
I understand , I hope your works are successful. Personal note about glazes and polymer clay - I'd try resin for kicks and giggles.
Thanks for this! Been hating the stickiness I get with some glazes. Hoping the flecto and golden will help me out!
Hi, do you know if I can use these on air dry clay pieces?
HI can the diamond flecto be used to dip your clay pieces in? TFS
Watch puddingfishcakes video (beginner's guide to polymer clay)
Any thoughts on polyacrylic?
do you thiknk you can use mod podge to glaze charms? please reply
so very helpful~!~Immediately ordered the flecto~!~megathanks
@DevalyciousDesigns Yes I have not a fan and flecto and verathane are a little different because flecto is harder but there both good
Hello..Miss, please help me. I cant find Varathane Polyurethane Gloss in my country or online.
if I use MinWax Polycrylic? is it ok? Does it has the same effect as Varathane?
no crack, sticky or turn yellow? Help me TxT
What camera do you use?
could you please post up a link to the item ?
i tired finding it on the website but can't seem to find it
this videos great! really informative
What if you dip it in varathane first, then dip it in Holloway house quick shine floor finish? I bet it would be super shiny. You should try it out and tell me how it does, or I will and let you know! :)
I personally like Sculpey glaze
Unfortunately I live in the uk so I still don't know where to buy them!
Where do you buy the flecto I cant find I anywhere :(
so whats the best?
Thanks for the information there.
This helped a great deal.... Now to give away the sculpey glazes I have to some teen making charms... 😜
You may want to try Glossy Accents (craft store) as an alternative to resin.
I've been reading that it yellows and isn't hard... it dents.
ur voice is funny i like it tehe
what is the name of the actual can the flecto glaze comes from?
thank you :) shelby
I use triple thick it stinks but it works greatly but yes mine get pretty thick but only some times when I do it wrong it's brush on :)
The sculpy Glaze has actually gone up its 5.99 when I bought it. Sadly I did not watch this video first u.u I did watch before wasting more money on triple thick.
Buy triple thick at amazon or at micheals I live in the USA
Just bought the Flecto....Thx So much!!!♥♥♥♥♥
im so mad, ive been tryna find the right glaze for like over 2 months and i cant find any, but thanks
so helpful thank you:)
If you are going to show how different glazes, you should show each one on clay. Then show them after they dry and then a week later. All your offering right now is your opinion.
where I can buy it?
I bought mines from Home Depot. It was almost $8 for a 8oz can. About $14 for a big can, but I think the small can will last a loooong time lol
U could glaze your charm "polymer clay" with triple thick
the flecto is the one I would tell you to go with
@DevalyciousDesigns and yes there almost the same thing but the verathane I showed in the video I not the diamond verathane that is the one flecto is and it's $50 a gallon at home depot
Is somebody snoring? LOL.
Just wanted to tell you that, it says "glass glaze" on the sculpey glaze, maybe that's why it's not good om clay... :P
*gloss
The Varathane Glaze costs 26€ on Amazon.
The company that made Flecto is now owned by Rustoleum.
dangit, I bought triple thick AND sculpey before I watched this...
Pandora beads, sorry for the misspell
But the flecto helped!!!
Triple thick gets sticky
sculpey glaze 3.99?!?! mine was freakin 7.99!!
That was in 2012 when she post this video at hobby lobby it was 7.99 also when i check last week
I bought the Sculpey Gloss Glaze, and Satin Glazee before I watched this. >.< CRAP!
the sculpy dose not do that
My sculpey glaze gets sticky
I mean Acrylic. sorry
you sound like you need to drink some water
Ten years and you're not an expert? Ouch -- this must be a TOUGH art medium in which to work. I'm discouraged just hearing this! :)
Why don't u come up wid ur own sculpt glaze dont be mean
