Generally I wear gloves when I have large batches of resin or I'm glazing a lot of charms, however they are very difficult to wear when filming and I end up getting resin on my camera (which is not ideal!). I am alway very careful when using UV resin without gloves by making sure I'm not brushing it anywhere near my fingers. I have never had a reaction because I make sure I don't touch it with my bare skin.
great video :) I need to find some good UV gloss in Poland, once I tried using nail polish on polymer clay and after some time it became a sticky disaster... ;|
Add a thin layer of fimo liquid and them bake your piece for 20 minutes, it’s the best varnish I have found it. It lasts for years, doesn’t become sticky/yellow and never chips off. It’s just not shiny, more a matte finish
I used to use mod podge back in middle school (over 10 years ago now) and live in a fairly humid environment and much like clear nail polish it gets sticky after awhile. Definitely don't recommend it if you live somewhere humid. Theyre practically glued into the box I keep them in now and theyre very white and cloudy.
This is so helpful! Can you glaze one side of a charm with uv resin and then the other later without a visible seam, or do you need to do it all at the same time and hang it as a charm?
Hi! You can, but because it takes a full 24 hours to cure, you have to constantly monitor the charms to avoid dripping and pooling. Unlike the UV resin which can be “snapped” into place with UV light, epoxy resin remains viscous for a long period of time and will continue to flow off the clay. I hope that makes sense!
Hi, so I have a Mod Podge matte varnish. Is there a matte resin varnish too that can seal polymer clay, even when painted on? Because I learned from you that Mod Podge isn’t meant for sealing polymer clay.
Thank you for this review. Does the UV Resin have to be used with a mask? I’m not sure if I’m getting it mixed up. There was some kind of Resin where people say where a mask it’s dangerous if you don’t. The UV Resin looks so shiny like glass.
Yes. You should wear a respirator (not a surgical mask like people wear for covid), goggles for eye protection, and gloves. Make sure you are using in a very well ventilated area (open windows AND a fan) and understand that even doing all that, you are taking a risk. We do not yet know the long term effects of UV resin, but we do know it is toxic in its liquid form pre-curing. That is a fact. It can become an allergy for individuals very quickly, and once you're allergic, you can't use it anymore. And that is not just if it touches skin; you can develop an allergy to it from breathing the fumes. Also, even if it doesn't smell to you, the fumes are still dangerous. There are companies that will claim non-toxic and no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) but they are lying and can get away with that as resin is not regulated well. Just be sure to be informed in your decision and please don't apply UV resin the way it is shown here; you *need* gloves. Resin on skin will cause irritation and can lead to eczema. It is hard to find solid, evidence-based information on resin because it hasn't been studied much, but please look into it if you are considering using it especially in a home you share with others or for big objects. I've done my own research, but I like to always double check info I get from people on the internet and encourage others to do so too! 😊
Thank you for all of this work!! So helpful to see such an in depth video on all of these glazes! I do have one issue with my UV resin however. I don't have a lamp and have been using the sun to cure them for the past year. Sometimes they are hard but other times they turn tacky after sitting in the jar I store them in. Does anyone know why this happens?
I think it just isn't cured fully. Because it relies on UV to cure it can take a lot longer if the layer is too thick (and it doesn't always look like it's that thick). I'd suggest leaving any that are still a bit tacky to cure a bit longer and to work with multiple thin layers rather than a single layer. Hope this helps!
@stealthpath My guess would be that it is based on how strong the uv is on the day you set them out. Some days they are stronger than others. Also I would suggest wearing a respirator when working with resin.
I have been trying to use UV resin and I find it such a pain to spread and makes a mess so easy and popping bubbles not easy. My hands shake so that might be why it’s messy but and yeah it does pull away from edges a lot for me. ☹️
I stopped using resin on my charms due to me getting fed up of having to mask up and glove up everytime i used it, also on some charms i found the high shine didn’t suit them.
Yeah fair enough! You can get matte UV gels (designed for nails but it’s the same stuff) but even then it still has a little shine to it. It’s never going to be as matte as the raw look of clay
Hey! Just letting you know that UV resin in its liquid form is harmful and can cause health issues. So if you are considering using it, please do your research and follow proper procedures such as wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) and having a well ventilated area.

I am alway very careful when using UV resin without gloves by making sure I'm not brushing it anywhere near my fingers. I have never had a reaction because I make sure I don't touch it with my bare skin.
Best thing to use is a two part with a hardner personally I go to the auto paint store and buy clear coat. It works amazing
great video :) I need to find some good UV gloss in Poland, once I tried using nail polish on polymer clay and after some time it became a sticky disaster... ;|
Add a thin layer of fimo liquid and them bake your piece for 20 minutes, it’s the best varnish I have found it. It lasts for years, doesn’t become sticky/yellow and never chips off. It’s just not shiny, more a matte finish
@@florecitadelcampo13 thank you! I haven't used liquid clay yet, I will give it a try! :)
Thank you!! So helpful
Thank you for making this video! This was so helpful
wow thank you for doing this amazingly helpful experiment :) I think I will invest in a decent resin and take the safety precautions
Thanks for this, you are so patient.
Wow. This was a very helpful video! Thanks!
What a beauty... oh and your creations too ^^
What would you recommend for a mat or satin glazed please? I like the idea of resin but you can only get that as a gloss can't you?
This is so helpful! Can you glaze one side of a charm with uv resin and then the other later without a visible seam, or do you need to do it all at the same time and hang it as a charm?
I have done it before! UV resin self-levels really well ☺️
@@creativerachy thanks so much!
You should do 1 year test on uv resin and how it yellows over time and which brand doesnt yellow
Would it be ok to layer different glazes. I wanna use mod podge then add triple to it. Would that work?
Thanks . This was really helpful. l really love your lil bat charm it was really shiny indeed 😍
what sealant would you recommend for matte finish effect?
And what about Fimo glaze? I use it and I like it very much💪🏻 Thanks for your video❣️ Love U💜
I’m unsure sorry! I have no experience with it because you can’t buy it where I am.
@@creativerachy No problem! Thanks for your reply❤️🥰👍🏻
Thank you for doing this!
So, Rachy, have you ever heard of FIMO Gloss Varnish?
Yay thx for this video i really need it ☺️☺️☺️
Thank you I started to watch your videos for clay. And they are very helpful !!!
Thank you thank you thank you soooooo much you are the best💗
The video was helpfull so much thank you again 🙏🏻💞
Love your miniatures 😍
I have found best long lasting sealer/varnish is spray on Krystal Kate gloss or matt
Does it have to be water based polyurethane? Or can I use oil based?
Loved the video! Do you know if I could use epoxy resin to glaze too?
@@creativerachy okay, thank you! 😊
i have a high allergy to uv resin my skin turns burned and itchy in my whole body so i need a replacement asap ... what do you recommend
Tbh Bestest Informative Video Ever!!!!!!!!💥👌
Thank you so much for sharing this! 💖👏
Thanks for sharing your experience 😊
