  • In this relaxing ASMR maps video I am looking at a road map and atlas of Europe on a paper map and doing some map tracing using a bamboo stick pointer. I will also ramble about European history and geopolitics, so this is a geography lesson too!
    DESCRIPTION
In this interesting ASMR video I am exploring Europe using a paper map atlas. The video is calming and relaxing, hopefully helping you with sleep problems and insomnia. I am speaking in a male deep voice with a Welsh accent and switch between soft spoken and whisper voice. Today we look at France, Luxembourg, Germany, Czechia, Hungary, Austria and Slovakia.

1:40 it's actually called "l'île de France" (island of France). It is from the Midle Age were people would call it like that because of the many rivers surrounding the region (La Seine, L'Oise, L'Aisne and La Marne). 😊

Can hardly imagine flying into the capital of one country in order to visit the country next door...I live in a province that it takes an entire calendar day to drive across! My one visit to the UK (so far) impressed me with how comparatively nearby everything was...

I think its kind of funny how many different ways there are to pronounce New Orleans. The original French pronunciation of Orleans aside, I hear British and some other people say "New Orleens", while I and most people I know would say something more like "New Orlens", and I've heard that allegedly people from Louisiana would call it something along the lines of " 'Nawlins", but don't take my word for it, that could just very well be a caricature of what us Americans outside of Louisiana think they sound like for all I know 😅. Hell even the Animals pronounce it two different ways in House of the Rising Sun in order to rhyme new blue jeans with New Orleans 😂.

@@WelshASMR82Maps Exactly! By no means am I correcting you by the way, we'd all be wrong if you ask the French anyway haha. It does make me wonder though with how culturally diverse Louisiana is how the creole and cajun french speakers or even spanish locals would pronounce it though 🤔 definitely on my list of places to visit one day for the food and culture despite the swampiness and humidity.

Its called ile de france, because paris started out on some islands in the seine. Theyre still there today, but most of them have been fused by construction. You can find, among other things, the notre dame there.

Heh. Not only Britain, Gareth, but Wales, where vowels play musical chairs! 😁 The pronunciation of Reims has always mystified me. I'm into cars and aircraft, and Reims is significant to both interests, having been the site of one of the first air shows before WWI, and having hosted the French Grand Prix long ago including the 1956 event that was the final GP ever contested by a Bugatti...I pronounce Reims the same way you do but have to admit that's a guess.

In addition to your knowledge about Hungary, did you know that there used to be a third city which fused together with Buda and Pest to create Budapest? It was called Óbuda.
