Tiger 🐅 Bashing at Jozini Dam The team hit Jozini for a session ahead of this weekend’s Jozini Tiger Lodge competition. Arriving mid-morning the game plan was to split the trip into 3 short sessions over 1.5 days to target different areas and experiment with baits and lures. Our guests on the trip were The Ballim’s who had never visited the dam before so we were excited to see what it would deliver. Day 1 started off a bit slower in terms of fishing with a total of 9 landed. Bait anglers managed 4 Tigers in total all on Chicken Hearts rigged on a 2/0 Linx Power Plus Hook and 30lb Sensation Black Steel wire. Recently Lionel (AKA The Crow) had been having good success on the McArthy Tiddlers in the Bronzeback colour rigged on 3/0 Hayabusa Wide Gap bass hook, we took his advice and managed to get a lot of tiger hits. The man himself showed up after work for a quick 2hr afternoon session and landed two solid fish using the Okuma Recon rod paired with the Hakai baitcaster reel. Veer was off to a slow start and caught up with 3 Tigers after changing tactics to a heavier setup, all on the soft plastics using the Okuma Recon 7ft rod paired with the Helios 30 reel. The key to landing these Tiger’s is to take up as much slack as fast as possible and set the hook hard or ul miss altogether. Day 2 Was a quick 2hr morning session before departure, the bait fishing slowed down completely with the Tigers moving into the submerged timber and flooded grass, patrolling the edges smashing baitfish regularly and that’s where the soft and hard jerkbaits really delivered results. Both Crow and Veer managed 2 each on hard/soft lures whilst our guests 1 on bait. There are loads of small tigers around up to the 3 kg mark which makes for great fun from the bank. Again, soft plastics produced the goods with the McArthy Bronzeback Tiddler and Zoom Super Flukes in Houdini delivering the goods. These colours are both very similar and does a great job of imitating the lighter coloured bait up in the shallows right now. Final Score: Team Sensation: 14 Tigers landed Jozini Tigers: Tons of bites each day but they were super sneaky darting at the bait and turning or smashing the baits and taking off. Important Info: Entry fee at the entrance is cash only or wildcard holders (no card facilties) Accommodate the load shedding schedules when booking and carry lots of mozzie repellants. Area Fished: Phongolo Nature Reserve - around the main boat launch/slip way area Gear to pack: Sunblock and lots of liquids as this place can become extremely hot. Hi I like your videos especially the ones for tiger and kuper I'm a local resident at Jozini dam but I don't fish Jozini dam I fish on the other side of the wall (the Pongola river ) it's about 55km away after the dam wall thanks to your videos I've caught 2 tiger in 9 months I took a break on winter since the river was too flooded I've caught one on chicken livers before the small fish could take it The second one was caught with a McCarthy gold weightless plastic minnow I'm still trying to get the kind of soft plastics you're using I will catch me a big one soon
