Grew up my entire childhood in Wilmington on 22nd and Market. Only Asian kid in the neighborhood. Mom used to own a liquor store. She probably got robbed 5-6 times during the 12 years she ran that store at gunpoint. Thing is, this documentary is right in one way. Back when I grew up, I got beat up at times, went through a lot of racist bullsh*t. But it only made me stronger as I grew up and made a lot of great black friends there who stuck up for me thick and thin. Nowadays, I just recently went back and it’s just total chaos and disregard for the fellow man. Its not just ignorance like it was back in the day; it’s straight up disrespect and violence. So sad to see my hood the way it is now
There was a question asked, something along the lines of, "what's different now from 10 years ago?" Answer: the city has been flooded with pharmaceuticals so therefore the minds of the up & coming generation has been weakened IMMENSELY! in addition to the lack of parental guidance. I was born in the 70's & during the stages of growing up we had struggles & sometimes a lack of parental guidance in some homes but the difference is, we weren't handicapped by drugs. (Street or pharmaceutical) It just wasn't on our radar. PERIOD So now we have a bunch of immature, ignorant, & SCARED youngins running around with guns in their hands & shooting with their with eyes WIDE SHUT! When "WE" come together the change will be drastic & swift. All for the better of OUR people. Oh yeah, & "they" only control what you let them CONTROL. WAKE UP & PULL UP PEOPLE!
The black community is the problem theh are your kids relations you do it to yourselves only you can change it you know who they are Wilmington has been Renovated 4x in last 30 yrs and over & over its the locals drive out jobs business community of hate theft drugs sex its your doing undo it seek help from Churches not the blk radicals try Looking for your part Educate yourselves its your dirty democrates its your own people when will your community wake up Delaware is a shithole because of the Culture in Wilmington and Dover the Democratz wanted this got it now WHAT WILL YOU DO!?
I’ve lived in Delaware my whole life. Grew up in a nice small town... now I live in suburbs -Newark (university town) BUT i have lived in Wilmington.... in homeless shelters. Down on my luck for about a year after i got sober. Sober 3 years now!! But yeah i was Walking through those neighborhoods. A lot. It was culture shock. Its sad around there. Poverty everywhere Drugs everywhere Definitely tough and rough. But i will tell you what: i am a white girl and i never felt unsafe. In fact, Black people made sure i was alright before any white person in that city ever did. For the most part, The black community takes care of each other. They give even when they have nothing....Because they know what its like to have LESS than nothing, so they give you a plate if you’re hungry... give you a place to sleep for a night or two even if its just a dirty carpet in their living room with no blanket or pillow. You give respect and you’ll get respect ..I HAVE BEEN THERE. Hungry with that plate of food and on that carpet instead of sleeping god knows where...White people don’t have that neighborhood mentality. I could not walk into the white neighborhood i grew up in and been helped like that. Im mainly writing this to say thanks. Thank you Wilmington for getting me through when i needed you, there are Some real good people up in Northside.
DE born and raised. Spent a better part of my life growing up in the salvation army shelter. Mom was on smack. I learned from an early age how to steal, pan handle, and spot a drug deal. I'm now 22, in Colorado working a full time job and possibly have a kid on the way. This city and my mom inspired me to do better.
Wow I live here too. Never knew this was coming out. Kudos to the creators. I was raised over West side in the hood, made it out, got a doctorate and I write books and still in Wilmington. If you have just someone who believe in you and you believe in yourself, everyone can be successful. You have to want to make positive changes. The girl rapping said she’s wants better for the city, but she rapping about selling drugs and killing. Don’t get me wrong music is music, but change starts from within. My grand mom always told me, “ you will change once you get tired.” There are jobs in Wilmington that will hire those with charges or whatever, ppl just gotta apply. The thing is it’s not fast money that they used to so most may quit cause it’s not their norm. I’d rather make money honestly then to have to split it with someone else. Just my opinion.
Locoalways2themax Loco302de Thanks! Don’t get me wrong, I’m better than no one. Even though I have my doctorate I’m not making what I should lol. But when you want and know better, you do better. Some ppl just don’t know what resources are out there or don’t want to do their part. This was a great start to a docuseries, but( to the creators), what could make it better if you get other opinions of those who have a different opinion of the city in a positive way or negative for that matter. Yes, the violence is bad, but so is selling drugs (this is how most get their money), it doesn’t make it right that it’s effecting the community is a negative way as well not just the killing. Interview “ the funeral homes i.e the Congo’s, the Wright’s who have to get calls about the bodies they have to pick up daily. I bet you’d get a different perspective. When I used to write for CNN I interview a lot of ppl from Delaware who were doing positive things and many of them stayed they wanted better for themselves and the city. Again, just my opinion. Overall, great start, I think this series has potential to be something great. I would pitch it to Netflix or HBO for that matter. Like a similar show of “ The Corner”. I don’t know if I’m showing my age or if anyone remembers that series.
salute sister!!!!!!!! continue to share ya story for those who think the hood is a dead end ... it is but when your @ the bottom the only way is UP !!!!!!!! stay positive amitious and optimistic !!
Kreative Krystol Reads N Writes I'm writing a book now. It's called "Nobody's Child"... It's my first book, its about a situation I experienced a few years ago. I have a message that can really reach people.
I was raised a country boy from Maryland..i stay in Wilmington area to work in Delaware...i ride the DART buses last few years an i got to know the city and its people pretty well. I feel the population is just tryin to survive, and they do what they have to do,as any person would. I feel for this city, lot of history here, and good people. They only make the news when something bad happens but i see plenty of good here. Much respect those in Wilmington.
Y’all a bunch of bitches thinking something gonna happen to you every time you walk around Wilmington that’s just an overhyped stereotype I walk around nothing happen to me
I've been here 12 years and I walk around Wilmington all of the time and nothing has happened to me yet. Some of the people are idots though. There is a lack of hope in some areas of Wilmington.
// it’s not over hyped... I use to live around 4th and Madison and me being a grown woman now I wouldn’t take my kids for a walk around there... or how about the 15 year old boy walking with his friend and gets hit by a bullet making in permanently blind for the rest of his life, (just taking a walk)... or how about the 10 year old boy who got killed by a bullet intended for a grown man but killed him while riding his bike?.. it’s not like you gotta run past a block but don’t act as if shit don’t happen
Glad someone made a documentary on this I lost a family member to gun violence over nothing in Wilmington. We need to stop the hate and love one another because at the end of the day we are all we got.
Tiera Graham we are shooting pt.2. This Friday Aug. 17 2018 between 11am-6pm if you want to say anything hit me back with a response so I can tell you where we are gonna be. I'm also shooting a music video
Michael Bell Jr I would love to do a experiment and see what would happen if for the next 50 years you took rich white families and made them swap places with poor black families in the inner city. Surround them with poverty a failing school system and very minimal resources and let’s see what they’re willing to do or not do
RBG RBG I live in a city...there is the white part of the neighborhood and the black part, all sharing the same resources...You tell me which part you would want to live in with you family. It's all about the up bringing. You don't have to have money to keep your house clean, don't throw trash in the street, don't need to rob cell phones for kicks, jump people for kicks in mobs and the rest of the bullshit.
Joe Sepulveda Joe Sepulveda Man U didn’t read my entire comment or couldn’t comprehend what I said. I’m not talking about just moving into a neighborhood where I stay it’s lots of white people moving back into the city. What I’m saying is trade places for the next 50 years not just addresses. I said take away their resources, make the kids attend school in a failing school system, give them the same opportunities those in inner cities have. You interpreted what I said in a very simple way
It's really simple, Wilmington doesn't have jobs, so the young work the black market. The current mayor's answer is gentrification, and push people out into the suburbs. We need real leaders, and to take responsibility for our own damn community.
lets not create a false narrative there are plenty of jobs especially in northern delaware its people that travel all over from southern delaware to southern jersey to delaware county that travel to delaware for work !!!!!!!!!
There are jobs, I can see all the place saying "we're hiring" unlike in Puerto Rico. I even had three jobs recently and downgraded to keep just 2. Then after that I was offered another job elsewhere but I declined. And I keep seeing signs saying "we're hiring". In about every job I get my hours increases because my other co-workers calls out all the freaking time. That is relevant information. Some many people just don't care to work, and they follow the wrong lifestyle. This shouldn't be about a specific group that has to change, is about the individual conscience mind to back up their failing morals. Period.
So many cities like this across America. If you think about it the music we listen to is also the same across America and so is the condition of our people. So if we wanna attempt to make a change we should start with the music first. What do you think?
somthin else: so agree. The culture started to shift when the music turned more violent. Women were way more sexualized. In 1960the single motherhood was 20% now it's 70%
You guys are really fucking stupid if you guys are gonna try to blame it on music. Music aint the issue, unity is the issue. If you want to neglect the fact that fucked up shit was happening in the 60s 50s 40s and 30s, you're very dumb.
Some Dude Named will single !motherhood wasn't as bad. The breakdown of the family home was nowhere near as bad. Blacks had less unemployment in those days. The "gangsta rap" is a new type of thought process. It's all about " ballin" now. IMAGE .No, I'm sorry that wasn't an issue back then. Crime has sky rocketed. All the things changed when the music turned violent. People make their own choices either way. But look at a chart about hard core rap and crime statistics nationwide. Not in certain areas.
It's not the hood, it's the people in it . I'm from riverside . Lived there for 13 years and I turned out wonderful . It was the way my mother raised me. Everyone has to start somewhere in life . It doesn't mean that you have to act like it. Never ashamed of where I'm from . Just stay positive and have faith .
Start given felons 2nd chances and jobs then they wouldn't have to do wrong to survive they have to live and survive for yourself and their families what do you expect they won't give them a chance to work smh
Someone I knew was killed in Rodney Square saving a woman and her baby. It's just such a shame that such a small city is wrought with so much violence. I've lived here my whole life and I dream and dream of the day I leave this place forever. Heroine and drugs are gripping the communities, police are incapable of responding to city calls without bias, and our homeless and veterans have no real substantial assistance. Delaware/Wilmington just sucks. The Riverfront is also blowing money out its ass building new apartment complexes when three blocks from it you have Wilmington's impoverished and assisted living residents. Seriously, don't get politics but I can see this state is fu*king up hard...
My kids were close to him to good guy he was always at my place from cook outs or just to hang. Shame on the lives lost to the street here. Come on we can get it right put our hearts and minds into it. BETTER TOMORRIW, TODAY..
In 2020, nothing has changed. I have been in DE for 15 years (Mostly in Newark). I clearly see we got issues but what would make our area safer and better for residents?
I really appreciate y'all trying to encourage the young folks to stop the violence because it makes no sense to see young Black men shooting one another down in cold blood. Thank you, please keep uplifting our community.😍
Thanks for this. The artists you showcased have real talent. I moved here not long ago and my first week here I was walking around exploring and was harassed/bullied and told "you shouldn't be wearing those sneakers around here". It's crazy that you can be in a chill place and then walk a couple blocks over and feel very unsafe. That's a shame
Paul Smallriver nah come on now. These Dover cops be arresting people for weed. Cuz god knows THOSE are the people we need off the streets🤦🏾♂️I’m being sarcastic, if you don’t understand. You seem a lil slower based off of your comment💀
I’m from Wilmington de and it’s sad to see that it’s dying out, I’m from north east river side and it was so bad I couldn’t go outside, it’s been bad in Wilmington and I wish it gets better, I’m in west side now
As sad and hopeless as this video seems, there’s still a lot of hope in the eyes of some of the main characters, especially the brother with the baseball cap on..God bless y’all man...
I remember the exact moment Wilmington died as a city. It was maybe 15 years ago or so when a young mother from the suburbs was murdered outside of a bar in Wilmington. I think she was robbed and killed over something like $20. As soon as it became known that Wilmington wasn’t safe, people from outside the city stopped coming. Bars and restaurants started closing and entire neighborhoods went under. It’s sad what has happened to that city. If the government can’t make that city safe then it has no future. Wilmington needs people from the suburbs to come in and spend money and they are not going to until crime is under control except for maybe one week a year with the Italian Festival.
Would've like to hear to from the younger people who they kept talking about. I'm glad they addressed the issue, but getting a different perspective/experience from those who aren't 30+ I think would be beneficial than everyone saying pretty much the same thing, "It's bad here" "The killing needs to stop" "Kids have no respect". I really didn't see any concrete solution other than "We gotta come together and love", and then what, how do you do that? Encouragement is great, but opportunity is greater, hence the opportunity to do the easy thing which is the wrong thing. There are many things that are wrong with the black community in general, however, there are things that everyone can do to make a difference. These parents need to be a strong force in their children's lives, the ones who made it out need to reach back, a push towards education and the arts, a like-minded community that supports one another and looks out for one another. I could go on and on...
Alexander Shelley this documentary was not about creating solutions. This documentary was about allowing that are not from here to get a small incite into what's going on in our city. Again we filmed for several hrs but the world only got to see 16 mins. And try to run up on one of these young cats with a camera you'll be taping your own murder Factz
Jameel Favors What goes in the city isn't much different from what goes on in other cities around America, it just feels like the same thing people know already. Also, you don't have to "run up on" the youth with your camera, rather a quick conversation could be had where you ask if it's alright if you get their perspective because no one listens to them anyway, they have something to say. As a filmmaker, you can't be scared of these things.
Alexander Shelley first of all I'm not a filmmaker I was invited to be a part of this Secondly If you have been paying att. I already told you that a lot of these young or old people do not want to be on film. And the reason why nobody is talking to the youth is because we've been to busy dodging their bullets. If you want to see a documentary about the youth in Delaware (You come shoot it) and see how far it gets you. And it may be the same in other cities but I'm not from another city I'm from Wilmington Delaware so the only perspective I can give you is this one. The only time people have an opinion is when someone else does the things they wish they had the courage to do miss me with the self righteousness. I'm scared of anything I'm just smart enough to make good decisions. But I will gladly invite The Filmmaker back so that everyone can get their opinion heard. Can I sign you up as his first interview
It's not "self righteousness" if I'm wanting to hear from someone else who's not saying the same thing, I can refer you to three young men living in this city right now who are trying to make it out and do better with their lives, but because you're too busy "dodging bullets" you wouldn't see that there are young people you can talk to. But I wouldn't know because I don't have "courage", stop it.
Alexander Shelley you know 3 ppl I know thousands that are trying to make it out and we posted a week before this was filmed to give everyone that wanted to be on it the opportunity to do so. They didn't contact me or was around when this was filmed so they missed it if they have something to say I suggest you film a documentary starring them and see what your responses are going to be. Cause like u said earlier it isn't until you see someone else doing something or filming in this case that people suddenly have so much to say but you can't go back and see nothing that they have done to even spark a conversation like this Doc has
When I lived in Wilmington, I came up with a few solid ideas to bring about positive change for children and adults in the city. ,They usually fell on deaf ears - or my teacher salary meant I didn't have the means to get it going. That's usually where the conversation ended. I plan to learn more about funding and to be more persistent in the near future, because it's too important not to at least try.
Salute and respect for stayinh positive in this documentary. For real. Our state is going down a bad path and I appreciate you bringing this stuff to light. Much respect. -Nick Boots

The attitude that's going to keep you right the fuck where you are. Keep blaming everything on "the man" and take no responsibility for your situation.
Stop blaming others, slavery was a long time ago , we had a black president, a black attorney general and more black folks in positions of power then ever. There’s jobs if you look for them there’s opportunities if you look for them or you can blame everyone else and continue to stand still. Btw I ain’t on internet gangsters shit I’m just giving it to you straight.
I mean I'm from Wilmington born and raised it ain't that baaaad. Shootings down this year. It could be worse. But if Yu wit da shits u might get shot tho frfr
Born over Westside...Raised in new castle...I love Wilmington!! This city is bigger than the violence going on! Don’t let em lie to you WILMINGTON IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
I live in Delaware but I live in Sussex County, it’s an hour away but a whole different world. People down here don’t think about it, they don’t pay it any mind and it’s our own people. It’s just sad.
Wilmington smdh so sad, imo. glad alot of my family are in lovely safe nj low crime suburban nj which is on DELAWARE BORDERLINE, south jersey that is. and rest of us in NORTHERN NJ(15 min. from nyc) safer and my girl in orange shirt, STAY STRONG sista ... My mom blk, she BORN in WILMINGTON,DE, then took us to CHICAGO worse! but then again not really, then dad being from chicago/nj we were all in the hoods like killington.. But we are thank god still all alive, with 2 brothers who serve prison time in nj chicago and james t vaughn before. Woman in .47: Yes mamita you are right PROTECT your suburban kid daughter too, i love what you sayin because it is so real. so true. and the man at beginning i get chills u r so talented ma brother @.47? #REAL period. Nuff said. Stay safe ma sisters and brotha's. adios. #LovmyBlkHispanicBrownPeople #STAYSAFE in Murdertown/Killington aka Wilmington DE, NJ,PA,MD ,CHI-TOWN all over.
love ur truth. thanks also i pm u on fb yes ur welcome for this link chica. THAT MAN IS TALENTED at beginning wow. #real #raw talent. Killington is what my cousins there still call it, 1 didn't make it out doing a long time in prison the other ? serve 10- 12 yrs, in prison and since a teen f-ked up life. smh, he now just about THIRTIES and has still struggle/no happiness really at all deep down, embarrassed he said, and he finally has a way out now with 'right woman in his life, older, and both them are so happy"so he has a real chance to finally get out and stay out of hood wilmington. and yea the lady real on here at : orange shirt on, her "suburban kid daughter"part is so real.
1:54 WORD mama real sayin that sh---t. Glad i got the fuk out. I m not missing it at all in Wilmington,DE, Dover just as bad it seem, but i grew up in hoods of Wil,DE. WORD IS BOND, justine. real talk mami. Eva, that's truth. yea orange shirt woman the sista bringin TRUTH... The dude at beginning is right, i listen to words before beat, and he is talented real talk, get the brotha a record deal or a video online, showcasin him. Killington murdertown, yep, my home. a long time no more for a minute now, rest of fam in chicago hood, tryin to leave that sh-t, too. this i JUST subscribe to. Hope they stay safe. i got a friend she real suburb/business woman in NJ NYC doin big things, a PIECE ON DELAWARE "un-solved murder/nj/de, tri-state unsolve,to hopefully get more attention on the victcim(s) that is what is needed, and i hope wilmington change, but it doesn't look like it. peace.
Eva, thats good, about ya fam well 1 of them, wit(an aaltogether$ woman) he got out of de, eva that's whats up, glad that ya fam found her and now is happy, got out of delaware period. and wilmington is no better as it was decades ago, it's worse, we in philly right here,, minutes from wilmington. most of us in nj philly(good part) the video is so true. so real.
what yall all saying is so true. i am not able to hood "relate"but my lil brother friends (born upper late) 80s can. and i hope he always make it back after he go visit a few heads in Wilmington, and Newark NJ Camden right there, i am praying always for more to just make it out of the bad area of Wilmington,do well." It seem to just get worse all time i hear things on these three hoods, as my brother say, gotta move/get out try at least, and make a better way."
Delaware is much safer than Jersey. All there is to worry about is Wilmington,in Jersey you worry about Camden,Trenton,Elizabeth,Newark,Jersey City,Patterson and they all within a short driving distance from each other which makes it worse. The Northeast is all the same, suburbs right down the street from the hood but Jersey got more rough cities than any other state in the Northeast and none of them are major US cities so that’s a fact
I liked what the guy who said there's no more love toward one another..hes so rright..no respect towards the elderly..this summons the mind lock that many people are into.I do my best not to fall in this category..My heart goes to him and anyone who is woke and realizes this.❤
i live in Wilmington but more outside of the city and this is accurate, i have family that lives in the city, you cant even sit outside anymore without hearing gunshots
real talk jay. but the jails are easier now, james t.vaughn, ,to philly, facilities, to prisons in other part of philly de tri-state nj, etc. easier now, sad though real talk the vid i was refer to by eva harris. i just subscribe. #changeyacommunity, can really change 1 man life, sad many don't though smh 1
I used to in Dover DE almost 19 years ago and I loved it. I go back and visit and all the time. But to live there I suppose a lot of things could of change. Just like my hometown did where I live now sadly to say.
I used to live here and it wasn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be. When I was 14-15, I would walk around by myself and just walk up to the store and what not.....
Cain Film Studios my brother and I use to walk to the store on our own when we were kids as well. But I'd be damned if I ever let my kids so much as cross the street without me.
i came to Wilmington almost a year ago im from Fresno CA i used to wander around the streets out in some of the places shown here and I met a variety of people think i only made 1 connection really. Anyway my point is that i often feel in my heart like i wanna reach out to the people around here and don't know how to do it. i wish i could work for some people who have the means to help me help them. be there's also a kind of fear in my that ill just be rejected anyway and that's unfortunate but I'm hoping while I am here someone or something will come to me. I've got pretty positive vibes. I'm for our people (black and brown) I came from a place of diversity. I come as representative of The Most High just looking for a way to do right and prove myself worthy. I wanna help our people heal the way I am in my heart even as I type this now. When God makes a way I hope you will see it in me. Ill be out wandering around; seeing who I can talk to. Who's heart is open to receive love.
surprised to hear this about Delaware.being from the West I viewed Delaware as a small and quiet state with very little Black People.Black People have good singing voices .That dude can drop a note . sorry to hear this about Wilmington .I hope it gets better for everyone .
1k There are no hoods in Wilmington DE. What you have is a bunch of ppl standing around in one spot every day on different sides of town. That don't make you hood cause you think your side is the hardest and then come to find the supposedly hardest ones are Snitching the Most beat it with that bullshit also that man isn't stupid he heard about us before he got here to film we went everywhere in every so called Good y'all peoples didn't want to talk
You can thank the democrats that run the state of Delaware. Think about it and realize they could care less about us! Vote these losers out of office!! #WalkAwayMovement
Tracie Gracie it's not about Democrat or Republican anymore they are all the same it's the government war against the citizens of the country to keep everyone down why else do you think it's set up so that within a several block radius there are multiple gun stores next to liquor stores so u buy a gun n get crunk do some crazy shit n hit one of the several churches in the area to pray for yourself it's a demonic system set up for all to fail because the 1% are the ones letting us tear ourselves down with their jacked up laws n hypocrisy
I'm from Sussex County born and raised in Delaware my Mom use to work in Wilmington and said it's a bad city. And that was like five years ago but my home boy just moved up there for job and I know a couple of people that work up that way. I think it's all about how you move around the city and if you're staying out the way.
Delaware - everybody thinks theyre a superstar. Theres plenty of jobs. No one “wants” them. Theres really no answer for this. De isnt “unique” by any means. Its more diverse than most and its business friendly attitude has ALL the major corporations incorporated here. Dumpster city. Muddertown usa. Woot woot. You want a real sh1t hole, go to Chester. Your safer in philly and baltimore. Dont walk down MLK blvd. Very sad situation.
Murphy James Please post a link to all these jobs in Delaware! Are you referring to the minimum wage jobs that don’t pay enough to pay rent in Riverside? I have a job....but I know plenty of folk who are struggling. Wilmington IS unique and the location is the major key to why. Here you have a small town suffering from an influx of guns, drugs, and thugs looking for new territory from NYC, Philly, and Baltimore. It’s not rocket science. My grandfather called this decades ago when they 1st built I-95. He hated it because he knew it would cause crime to skyrocket! The only industry here is banking. What this city does have in common with many others is the increasing lack of manufacturing jobs which is directly related to the unemployment and incarceration rate.
Murphy James..I mean don't everybody think they a superstar in any state.or anywhere in the world? Nut ass..you really need to check yaself with all that hate
Murphy James I don't think I know that I'm a superstar and obvioslyvyou do too or you wouldn't have made that statement thanks give propscwhere props are deserved stop hatin just for the sake ofvhating #latenight302

On the Flip side im shooting a movie here in Wilmington and if you dont mind i want to use some of this film in my Movie ..... Ask SC he knows Me well Westside to all the Sides ..! Let Pull em all UP ..! Respect
I went to an awesome school in Wilmington called Sarah Pyle Academy(not what sounds like ) ,that school helped me out in a hard time in life ,there are alot ,and I mean alot of good people in Wilmington that just wanna live, the drugs are the problem ,not the majority of the people.
Dylan Brady I used to go there too but way back in the day when it was called Drew/Pyle elementary. We had to wear uniforms there. For some reason they closed the Charles Drew part of the school across the street.
Don't go there but if you just close yourself off don't act surprised when u wake up and its become your area. People keep there head in the sand and wonder why someone walks by and kick them in the ass. Time to get woke
Our kids are angry because how we treat them at home, school, 1st jobs i had to confront one black manager for treating a 16 year old girl stupid at burger King i told her that's why our kids leave jobs or be angry and rude at jobs because that's how we treat them.
I was born and raised in Wilmington 27yrs and I can tell you that the city is definitely dangerous I seen plenty people get shot it’s real out here. That’s if you out here fucking around heavy in the streets. But if you out here and you not in the way you should be good ! I feel like if you can make it here you can make it anywhere! Wilmington Delaware is one for the toughest environments to survive and thrive in the world period!
So sad to see my hood the way it is now
What does the Mayor do for the Blacks? And what does the Blacks do to protest this injustice? Any protest for the world to see? That’s not fair.
PERIOD
So now we have a bunch of immature, ignorant, & SCARED youngins running around with guns in their hands & shooting with their with eyes WIDE SHUT! When "WE" come together the change will be drastic & swift. All for the better of OUR people. Oh yeah, & "they" only control what you let them CONTROL.
WAKE UP & PULL UP PEOPLE!
its different prob from the 70s for sure but from the 80s to 90s to 2000s ... its the same ole bs just different players ... the cycle ...
TRUTH! The drugs are the first problem. It's the chains that hold progression back.
Samantha West that's what I like to hear..let them know the First State has good ppl here.
Samantha West 🤗
I live in Newark too
Samantha West aye im watchin this from Newark too
Samantha West is everything ok with you now?
DE born and raised. Spent a better part of my life growing up in the salvation army shelter. Mom was on smack. I learned from an early age how to steal, pan handle, and spot a drug deal. I'm now 22, in Colorado working a full time job and possibly have a kid on the way. This city and my mom inspired me to do better.
Salute, getting out is the key to a better life. I'm from new castle but i been in Georgia for 7 yrs, i aint been down since
I’ve spent years in both Delaware and Colorado as well. I hope your life is fruitful there in Colorado!
How do you possibly have a kid on the way😂😂😂

Kudos to you. I'm from the hill also. You should let me do a article on you. My Facebook is TheSaga online promotions
Kreative Krystol Reads N Writes..you hit that on the nail
I lived in philly and Delaware... I was safer in philly 😐 don’t nobody wanna walk around Wilmington that’s a fact
tboogiewitdabun B facts of life
Y’all a bunch of bitches thinking something gonna happen to you every time you walk around Wilmington that’s just an overhyped stereotype I walk around nothing happen to me
I've been here 12 years and I walk around Wilmington all of the time and nothing has happened to me yet.
Everyone has a good point..but love don't act like Philly is any better.. unless you go up pass NE you always somewhat surrounded but the hood.
It’s cause most the people who live in Wilmington don’t work here. The people that work here don’t live in the city
Glad someone made a documentary on this I lost a family member to gun violence over nothing in Wilmington. We need to stop the hate and love one another because at the end of the day we are all we got.

So sorry Luv smh
dis sound like every small to medium size city in the US... it's not about the town(s) it's about us as a people...
factz!
Michael Bell Jr Exactly right
Michael Bell Jr I would love to do a experiment and see what would happen if for the next 50 years you took rich white families and made them swap places with poor black families in the inner city.
TheDanielHimself yupp exactly they build all these lofts where cops are on every corner protecting white people and charging us blacks for soliticing
Your right that wilmington doesn't have jobs. I moved to have a better job outlooks.
lets not create a false narrative there are plenty of jobs especially in northern delaware its people that travel all over from southern delaware to southern jersey to delaware county that travel to delaware for work !!!!!!!!!
Period.
^^ factz !
I’m from Wilmington and my whole family lives there. I’ve lost too many cousins to violence and drugs
Sydney Haston.thats everywhere love.
Wow
Some Dude Named will and it sure ain’t no unity in the music. Make unity music and watch what happens
Oprah Winfrey's Minge thank you 🙏🏾
It's not the hood, it's the people in it . I'm from riverside . Lived there for 13 years and I turned out wonderful . It was the way my mother raised me. Everyone has to start somewhere in life . It doesn't mean that you have to act like it. Never ashamed of where I'm from . Just stay positive and have faith .

I live in Delaware. It is not advisable to be in Wilmington at night. Even in daytime it’s a place that you have to be alert.
Start given felons 2nd chances and jobs then they wouldn't have to do wrong to survive they have to live and survive for yourself and their families what do you expect they won't give them a chance to work smh
Or don't break laws and become a felon. Pretty easy.
@@davidk7728 You're an idiot.
@@JamesSmith-vk2ky How so? Committing a crime is a choice. Make a different one.
Paul Smallriver I get it,, but people change. Their should be some type of program where you work towards getting that shit off your record.
Yaaassss Cannibal was thE sweetest and most amazing fucking person. 💞💕💗 Rest in peace
its there to hide south bridge and browntown and most of the bad parts of the city honestly what I think

Im from Florida I went to Delaware didn't seem like that kind of state but at same time every place has a ghetto or hood this is America
prime suspect your probably went where the beaches are where it’s pretty

Kylie Grace really don't matter what part..shit can go down anywhere up and down Delaware..
That's a shame
when the delaware police stop giving tickets instead of fighting crime the crime rate will continue to rise...
💯💯
How about people stop being criminals? That would work.

Even the Italian festival is dangerous as fuck now.
Cause like u said earlier it isn't until you see someone else doing something or filming in this case that people suddenly have so much to say but you can't go back and see nothing that they have done to even spark a conversation like this Doc has
Wilmington Is a bit sketchy however I've lived there for 6 years after living in Detroit. Detroit is wayyyyyyyy worse 😔😞😞
Tae L, word. Waaayyy worse is a understatement.

-Nick Boots

It seem to just get worse all time i hear things on these three hoods, as my brother say, gotta move/get out try at least, and make a better way."
I liked what the guy who said there's no more love toward one another..hes so rright..no respect towards the elderly..this summons the mind lock that many people are into.I do my best not to fall in this category..My heart goes to him and anyone who is woke and realizes this.❤
Briggette Lacomba thanks bro
i live in Wilmington but more outside of the city and this is accurate, i have family that lives in the city, you cant even sit outside anymore without hearing gunshots
Ive walked WILMINGTON for months at 2-3am from work to new castle ave Nd never worried bout not getting home
My opinion is that, you made it home because some of them dudes still have respect and work clothes dont equal money in your pocket
My fact is that Wilmington is really quiet at 2-3am nobody is really outside like that except homeless ppl
Same. Grew up in Wilmington Delaware.
Much respect to the 302
I need everyone to talk about how to fix these issues please and thank you
Food for thought.. alot of these young guns quick to kill and then realize the consequences when they're shackled in chains.
real talk jay.
but the jails are easier now, james t.vaughn, ,to philly, facilities, to prisons in other part of philly de tri-state nj, etc. easier now, sad though real talk the vid i was refer to by eva harris. i just subscribe. #changeyacommunity, can really change 1 man life, sad many don't though smh

Steve, glad you're here, and you're very welcome.
ICAM wit ur post. exactly..."
I lived in Wilmington, Chicago, and Philly and the same is for me it just depends where you live in each city.
i came to Wilmington almost a year ago im from Fresno CA
i used to wander around the streets out in some of the places shown here and I met a variety of people
think i only made 1 connection really.
I’m not familiar with Delaware however, most of my family from NYC moved there
EverythingImani New Yorkers can get comfortable anywhere💯💯💯
I feel bad for them. 😔
Everybody look like a dope fiend out there
Why the hell would they move from NYC to Delaware?????
surprised to hear this about Delaware.being from the West I viewed Delaware as a small and quiet state with very little Black People.Black People have good singing voices .That dude can drop a note . sorry to hear this about Wilmington .I hope it gets better for everyone .
Do one on Newark NJ... I'm from there. Murder ridiculous! A real documentary and accurate
1k I can believe it. We had to get out of Newark. Sooooo trashed and violent now. SMH. Unreal
Delaware county have good soul food Baby Cakes ?
Delaware will never get on the map
Delaware isn’t a bad state it’s only Wilmington I’ve been to every square inch of it
I'm from Sussex County born and raised in Delaware my Mom use to work in Wilmington and said it's a bad city.

I just moved to Delaware 3 months ago I didn’t know it had hoods like that. I’m from south side Jamaica New York can’t be worst then there.
I was born and raised in Delaware.... I always did my best to stay out of Wilmington because I head of all the violence.
I live down at the beach in Delaware. Stuff cool and chill down here but I know not to go to Wilmington.
Sussex county is the only place I'd live in DE!
That is where people that make it out of Wilmington go
The suburbs of Wilmington is a great place to grow up. I would never change my roots. Around concord mall 202 naamans rd is my stopping grounds
Wilmington! Respect!
I was born in Wilmington on west side and their was bridge with basketball courts under it and they shoot under their all the time
