    He says from 27:25 onwards that the young guys have peak morning testosterone at about 500, and the mid-aged guys around 400 - 450. This is VERY different from the narrative pushed by social media and TRT clinics, according to which you are dead meat if you are under 800. His statement should have huge consequences for millions of men. I already feel much better. :)

    Extremely helpful information. Thanks for organising this podcast Ben.
    I suspect for many people, getting an accurate testosterone reading is the first challenge. Depending on where you live, the second challenge may be getting TRT prescribed.
    It would also be good to know if those with a past history of any type of cancer is a contraindication to preclude TRT being used.

    Hmm, I don't know how to feel about the average total testosterone levels in young men being 500 and 400-500 for mid age.
    Makes me feel like I made a mistake getting on myself then, I was averaging 350-420 and a free t of 7-8. I feel waaaay better now though. So I duno. Currently sitting at tt-720 FT-23 on trough.

    • @NYGuy2000
      @NYGuy2000 11 місяців тому +3

      I posted a similar comment a few days before you did. Since the testosterone topic is both hugely emotional and profitable, we cannot expect only honest information. Here is my explanation: Of course, one feels better at 800 than at 450, at least short-term. However, as Huberman puts it, "growth means aging". So, by getting your T to supraphysiological levels, you may pull forward your energy reserves, from 20 years from now to today, possibly at the expense of our health in 20 years. TRT at mass scale is still relatively young, so we do not know the long-term effect. Bro science and TRT clinics don't care about our long-term health.

    • @tk4084
      @tk4084 11 місяців тому +8

      @NYGuy2000 I very much understand where your coming from it's hard to say exactly how it's going to effect people in the masses very long term however testosterone therapy has been around since the 1930s and there are a number of men on it for decades without issues (20-40 years).
      I have seen the data showing the change in average testosterone levels in the US and they are undeniably going down, along with sperm counts in men.
      Personally I haven't felt better in all my life, more so on how testosterone has effected me on a psychological level. My depression has subsided I am no longer irritable and easily agitated, I am calm and collected for the most part, anxiety has very much improved. I'm not doing this for an appearance thing, I just want a quality life and data has shown low testosterone to be more detrimental to men's health as we age so it makes me feel good that I'm being proactive in my health I suppose. I would say anything over the lab ranges to be super physiologic so I can see Hubermans point if kept over the ranges could potentially rob energy output years down the road and therfor having potential consequences in the future.
      I guess there is one sure fact in life that we are all going to die one day so why not try to make the best of it if we can.

    • @NYGuy2000
      @NYGuy2000 11 місяців тому +2

      @@tk4084 I totally get the psychological and the brain health effects of higher T. That's what would make it attractive to me. "Testosterone makes effort feel good" (Huberman).
      Considering the ranges Morgentaler mentioned, were T levels truly so much higher 20 or 30 years ago? I am not downplaying the negative impact of endocrine disruptors via food, air, and skin (e. g. in the coating on inside of pizza cartons to prevent leaking, hand sanitizers, skin care, ...), but aren't we just following a narrative about higher T decades ago?

    • @tk4084
      @tk4084 11 місяців тому +3

      @NYGuy2000 See this is one thing I haven't yet experienced, T making effort feel good. I feel the same as I always have in that regard besides being a little more focused on certain tasks.
      I don't think it's just endocrine disrupters I'm sure it has alot to do with lifestyle itself. Sedentary lifestyle with a lack of exercise and poor diet coupled with high amounts of stress. Studies have shown testosterone has been declining in men over the last few decades, Its showing how sick the population is getting with lifestyle & environmental factors and I think it's going to continue moving forward. the only thing we can do as an individual is take appropriate measures to ensure our own health. Definitely not doom and gloom but I think it could get ugly way into the future.
