Fantastic run with oerfect commentary. Hands down the most interesting speedrun ive ever watched because of how well you explained the procces as we watched. You dont see many WR holders doing that. I assume they fear someone may use it to replicate it with a faster time, but id love to hear your thoughts on that. Thx for your time my man!
I preferred oblivion speedruns before the wall trick was discovered. It was hilarious when speedrunners would use the drop an item and jump on it strategy to get up the palace and noclip through the temple roof to get to the ending door
I'm super late to this, but this came up in my recommended, and I have to say well done man, this was awesome, I'm definitely going to be watching the no out of bounds run, I love Oblivion, it is my favorite elder scrolls, I'm going to be doing a challenge run for Oblivion in the future, it's going to be a sorta no kill run while doing almost 100% of the game, theirs one quest that you cant do no kill and I don't know of anyway around it.
Wow, so there's even another exit hidden in there? I remember the old paintbrush / pants / potion hover glitch leading up to a 'door' above, but this looks even easier and faster.
As far as I remember, it's the same door - with the paintbrushes you just get high enough to be able to get behind the real door and activate the hidden door while falling down. And here you use the fact that it takes a few frames for the game to load objects in the game so you can clip through them by reloading.
When you "wait" in game I always thought that the time it takes is predetermined and it does not depend on the hardware (like a "sleep(n)" function). If that's the case it would make more sense to include it in the speedrun time counting: a strat that avoids waiting should be preferred to one that doesn't.
One funny thing about this kind of speedrun: I think a lot of speedrunners get into speedrunning a particular game (such as Oblivion) because they loved playing the game casually first. Then, they want to see how fast they can beat it. Then, they learn a bunch of glitches that, eventually, lead to them skipping almost the entirety of the game. So they originally loved the game so much, they learned to skip most of the game. (Not tryna tell anyone how to enjoy games or whatever. Just commenting because I find it funny and counterintuitive)
Honestly the fact you removed the loading times from the final count is such an amazing gesture for everyone struggling with bad machines, I salute you. Also incredible run!
I don't consider this 3:20 sec. The counter stops during the "wait" times. This adds about 10 seconds total and is not hardware related. That is a game mechanic timer there that time counts.
It is very much so hardware related. That loading time rule is in various speed running communities to give everyone a fair chance regardless if they're playing on a toaster or supercomputer.
Any percent means you can finish the game while having completed any percent of the game, all you have to do is make to games ending play, isn’t that the simplest explanation?
I spent hours on this game, I remember I actually bought it and played when I was 11 I was an argonian named Liz the first, then got an Xbox one and a year later actually played it.
technically, when you're waiting, the timer should still be going until the loading screen (if you go by your custom rules). nonetheless, very interesting. unfortunately, playing the story in oblivion normally still only takes like 8 hours I think if you're not doing side stuff. it should at least be 20, I think
Jeremy Demers I don't think that it does. not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't. Waiting is a simple process and shouldn't vary from machine to machine
googlewolly it's not Oblivion, but in fallout 4 my wait speed varies greatly depending on the frame rate, waiting in an open area is much faster than waiting in my settlement. On ps4 btw
VideoGameSkits Hmm interesting..yeah the games can be wonky. The worst is how load times are so dependant on fps.. especially in fallout 4. I have a crazy overkill rig, but with 60 frames, it's 40 seconds to go from the police station to the outside world, but only 8-12 if there is no limit. This is on an SSD
i think its a bigger issue in skyrim and f04 than previous titles because you can actually see daylight and whatnot changing in the background when waiting

I dont understand why glitches are used for speed runs. Doesn't that kind of kill the point? I don't know, I'm new to this. First day watching speed runs.
@@dontforgettolike7127 yes, thats where he explains that this category is called any% which means that you complete the game as fast as possible using anything you want in-game. If you dont like it then you can check out any% glitchless or any% no major glitches. And sure it looks silly, but in most games glitches are really hard to pull off and often the hardest thing in the whole speedrun
@@filipraos8072 I listened to the beginning, but still agree that it feels a little pointless as a speedrun. 🤷🏻♀️ I guess it's kind of cool to watch though.
@@audreyxatomic But again, this is just one of the categories, you could watch glitchless instead if you dont like it. But that run is much longer and optimizations are counted in minutes and not in seconds. This 3:20 oblivion record is 1 year old, it got beaten a month ago and now its 3:14. This may seem pointless but its not. Sure its just a few minutes long, but it requires a lot of skill. No matter how short the speedrun is there will always be some optimizations/discoveries to be made. Good example is GoldenEye 007 speedrun of specific levels, for example the 16 year old 22 second record for "runway" mission got beaten a few days ago, the new record is 21 seconds. These short and glitchy speedruns sound silly, but they are really impressive once you realise how hard it is and how much time it took to learn. I understand if its not enjoyable to watch for many people, but to say that its not impressive is just ignorant (not saying that you are) Check out speedrunning.com its the official site where you can find any game, and any category you want to watch
