Bro this has to be one of the best videos on Sprewell. You have footage / camera angles I've never seen before, and I thought I had seen and studied everything about Spree's game. The data you breakdown reveals another layer that you wouldn't really consider which I found excellent. He was certainly a master at improv. My favorite NBA player along with Mike! He was very special as a Warrior!
He was so good in GS. He came back to the NBA and his whole play style changed. It went from smooth to literally anxiety. Man was different. He was just so smooth in GS. He was my second favorite next to Pippen. Had 3 different color of his Converse in 7th grade
GS Sprewell nut here, been farming Spree highlights since the Inside Stuff VHS days... I've never seen a lot of these clips, very impressive! Also, remembering the story of 5:50 ... I saw it live, and as I recall that stepback 3 gave him 49. I remember saying when OT started "my boy is finally gonna get his first 50 piece!" And then they just stopped feeding him. Making 49 his career high. Disappointing stuff.
Man it’s crazy how so many great players from the 90s draft classes (wings especially) didn’t reach their full potential. Spree, Penny, G-Hill, Big Dog, etc… “too fast too soon era” - Bill Simmons
Any young kids who watching this video Sprewell comparison today would be Kawhi and Jimmy Butler ability to play both sides of the court with Westbrook type athleticism and energy. You can't judge his game off numbers, he had bad games shooting but he played big in big moments and never backed down from anybody. His weakness was he didn't have superior breakdown handle to be a number 1 scorer so in match ups against Mj as he got older with less quickness he got exploited. Nonetheless Sprewell played basketball even if he got dunked on by Kobe, he kept playing and he has one greatest nba finals series vs Twin Towers in 1999 a yr after choking his cornball coach in Golden State. Like I said Sprewell didn't back down from nobody. Sprewell even though lacking great handle also ran point for Knicks most of 1 season, I hate Knicks Sprewell and Marcus Camby made me root for them and when they traded them I went back hating Knicks. Sprewell was Fast and Furious on basketball court, every night on espn you could expect lightning flashes to the rim with thunderous impact, with full stat sheet. Sprewell played under Don Nelson in Golden state who used similar 1960 Celtics strategy as he was shooting foward that spaced floor which led to dynasty and is basically similar to modern day nba but better ball movement and more emphasis in midrange , where as Don Nelson used the aba 3pt line so Sprewell and Pippen played a better version of modern NBA back in the days when there was defense.
My man! What he did to PJ is what a lot of brothers wanted to do to a jerk for a boss. I really wished Russell Wilson would have given Sean Payton a Sprewell headlock for the disrespect he showed him in Detroit, Sprewell's home state (Michigan native who moved to Milwaukee).
