After all these confirmed injuries my expectations have now reached the floor. I’m excited for next season though when we’ll be back to almost entirely full strength and ready to show the NFL we mean serious business. This has been an important learning year and I feel we’ll be even better going forward.
This entire situation has really opened my eyes to how half of this "fanbase" are just the narrow-minded two year fans who are just part of the hype versus the twenty-year long fans who have watched this team go 0-16 and suffer losses from massive injuries in 2016 and 2022 to then being a play away from a superbowl without a defense in 2023. I still believe in the next man up mentality that this team and culture embodies and it will take a hell of a lot more than injuries to drag us down.
one game at a time, still gotta see how they handle Chicago before I would feel confident to judge. Essentially the Lions are still as good on paper as they were last year going to the NFC Championship
Yeah that's right. The big change is that the Lions are absolutely not the odds on pick to win it all anymore. Literally not the same team. But they're in the playoffs and football can be a weird sport so who the hell knows what happens. I expect they'll get even more wildly aggressive on offense and hope it just works out enough. And it could. We'll see!
At a certain point, you need more starters available to accomplish the ultimate goal. We have reached this point and too many starters are done for the whole season
The thing the Lions will miss the most with Monty is grinding out tough yards late in the games to kill the clock. We know what we got with Reynolds which isn't much but he can still get short yardage when needed. Here's to hoping Vaki and carry some of the load.
As Lions fans, we’re not panicking. With this amount of top tier talent being knocked out due to injury, expectations are gone. We’re playing with house money now, nothing to lose. Because nobody would expect this current roster to make a playoff run, much less a Super Bowl run.
Devastating. There is no question that the injuries prior to this game changed the trajectory of expectations for the season. And of course losing 2 great starters and a key contributor on defense, along with a key starter on offense does the same. Beyond words. I've never heard of anything like this in my 50 years of being a football fan. An elite team getting utterly gutted with this many key injuries, not even close.
Wait, week before we didn’t have Alim or CD… we’ve had a game without D Mo. This is just same thing as ever. I think it’s just reverting into same old Lions fans to suddenly decide it’s too much. The Bills are easily the most likely team on that side to go to the Super Bowl, and we were one or two plays away from erasing the 14 point hole we dug, and winning. Got no time for glass is half empty folks. No team can stop our offense even with D Mo hurt(because he was the second half yesterday don’t forget). If you can’t handle to pressure don’t watch, but the rest of the season is going to be fun, and this team deserves a fanbase with at least a little bit of guts and belief the team itself has.
It definitely felt doom and gloom at first but the more I think about it they can still get there. Anzalone, melifonwu and rakestraw could be back in the next couple weeks. If they can hang onto that 1 seed it'll help. Big if, but if hutch can get back and be even half of what he was up until the Dallas game, that'll help the secondary out immensely. I like where your heads at
The Montgomery injury absolutely sucks but to be honest most teams don’t run two running backs like we do and looking at stats Gibbs is a top 5 running back only playing 50% of snaps sure he isn’t a ground and pound guy like Monty but he sure can hit a gap up the middle and pick up yards I think it will be good for Gibbs to get more snaps in these big games and really open up the type of back he is and maybe Goff will lean more on the pass game leaning on Amon ra a little more and get him cooking at the end of the season I fully believe we can still do this we still have our full O line healthy
I really think that once Rakestraw is eligible to return they need to give him some snaps on the other side of Arnold. Rakestraw had a nickname in camp (Pickstraw) because all he did was intercept Goff. He and Moseley need chances. Vildor is not the answer. He’s awful in 1 on 1 coverage situations. He’s more of a special teams guy.
Man, I felt the same way... It's one thing to have the injuries they had already, but with McNeill in, you still have a disruptive run stuffer and it was still tough for teams to run on them... I just don't know how they can continue to sustain these injuries and compete with the best teams in the league. Luckily, the offense is good enough to flat out beat any team in the league... but overall I agree - I think their chances have been diminished a bit.
Bills actually dominated more than the final score. We had our healthiest team out there against them for most of the game and couldn’t hang. They are now the SB favorites to win it all. We have to hope we can manage to get to SB and with Anzalone, Davis and hopefully Hutch back we can compete.
Both teams ain’t winning a Super Bowl with those defenses.

I've never seen a team so banged up. It could be just bad luck, like the broken jaw...but the Lions need to look at their turf, at Ford Field....S&C and training methods too.
Our offense will be fine, defense on the other hand😬. We need to get that number 1 seed to have a chance. Home field, 1st round bye are so important for us to make a run.
Before this game, I understood we could potentially lose the game but still have a high ceiling and win it all. Coming out of the game without Alim and Carlton, it's hard to believe. There's only so many shots that defense can absorb before it's just not championship caliber anymore. I'm here for the ride, but the expectations definitely took a hit.
I'm not giving up hope, but with all these injuries to important players it is going to be very hard. If they still make it all the way to the Super Bowl, then the coaching staff deserves a lot of the credit.
The entire team at this point has to be terrified that they are next. When you watch the entire fkng starting D and bench get put on IR, then it starts bleeding into the Offensive, they have to feel like its inevitable. Absolutely insane
We are finished as a true contender. We have 4 starters left on defense. No pass rush no true cover corner. McNeil not being there to clog the middle... Vildor having to play a lot. Our offense will have to score 50 per game to have a chance in the playoffs. Maybe next year.
Move Brandon Joseph into more time, move branch back to cb, with Arnold, then in 5/6 db situations we ran use Robertson, Mosley vildor then rakstraw* when healthy
Sadly, I think their SB hopes for this year are fading fast. I predict 1 or 2 playoff wins is about the best we can expect. This number of injuries is just absolutely devastating.
We still hold our fate in our hands so thats good, we just need the bears to beat the Vikings tonight and that will help us out a bit with them getting a lose plus a division lose We are gunna need this defense to get back that fire they had before the bills and the offense is gunna need to get hot and stay hot for 4 quarters and put points on the board every chance In brad and mcdc we trust Lets fuckin go DETROIT
For additional context. In the first 6 games, Montgomery had 3 with 80+ yards. Since then he’s had 1. Since week 6-Gibbs has had 4 80+ yard games. Folks need to stop becoming emotionally attached to a guy who benefits from a terrific run blocking line.
I feel one more loss on the season, but not the important one. I feel we'll get the right guys back that'll keep this team at just the right amount of elite to go all the way. No denial, that's just how much I trust how well this team is run. We've been scared before in this season and did not waver. It's on.
I dont feel like half a team will be good enough to win a Super Bowl. We are literally pulling guys off the streets and asking them to play defense in the NFL.
We do have a chance to be superbowl champs. When our defense was down, our offense showed up for the last two games. It's not necessarily the fact that our defense was so bad, and more about how the bills offense is that good. This current defense does fine against the rest of the league, but we do need some players back. At least we have our corners and safties.
No, not even close to being a Superbowl team now. But, we haven't been very close to being a super bowl team the prior four games either, and somehow managed to win them all. This takes us to a whole lower level though.
Hate to say it, but it's a wrap, at least when it comes to playoffs. I've never seen so many injures with one team at once. Legit half our team is out. It'd take a miracle to make a deep run
We might be somewhat good today. There's still 3 games left. With the way things have been going. We might lose a few more to injury. I'd be lying if i said i wasn't worried.
"SOL" might be dead, but "the curse" remains! My God! How do they recover from all of this? Goff and the Lions offense is going to have to score 40+ points a game in order to win. We're playing with second string and practice squad guys on defense. How do they do what we all wanted and expected them to do.
I believe they blew it last year against the 49ers with only a few injuries, now with many injuries they will not get to te Super Bowl. It is what it is
This sucks man I understand injuries are a part the game but lions can’t play a game without someone getting injured every game. Do we have enough depth & talent time will till. We still got some big pieces but we gotta stay healthy & get healthy
I think the players can get it done. My concern is now in the coaching staff after yesterday. Mcdc come on man, an onside kick with 12 minutes left? Aaron Glenn where the hell was the pressure? You play man and don’t blitz against that quarterback? Big red flag. I’m not sure what to think of these two today…
Come on everyone ! Brad rolls the dice on injured players. We all know this. Last year was good and we screwed up the 49ers games. And that was with a bad defense! Hopefully the offense can carry us in 2024. Draft all defense and offense line and roll it out in 2025. Get guys back hopefully.
Lions run game looks nonexistent the last two games, and that was on the healthy offense. Let’s see first how the Chicago game goes because the lowly Bears have been a difficult opponent lately.
All of this talk about who is going to fill in where turns a Super Bowl winner to a Super Bowl hopeful team. Offensively they should be fine but defensively the style of defense Glenn plays doesn’t allow for majority 2nd or 3rd string players. It’s worked against bad teams but won’t in the POs.
You people need to ALSO acknowledge Montgomery has been EXTREMELY ineffective down the stretch this year. If. not for the close out run vs GB, I’m not sure what they’re losing. Perhaps they have relied TOO MUCH on the idiotic “impose our will on you” baloney. If you keep smacking him into the line, your run game suffers. It’s been this way for about 6 weeks now. I said it, repeatedly. Gibbs was often the better back In fact, Montgomery hasn’t had a 100 yard rushing game since September. Since Halloween, Gibbs has been the clear leader only to have to cede touches to Montgomery. Montgomery has really only vultured TDs from Gibbs. Frankly, you folks obsessed with Vaki are going to see what he is (it’s not good). If anything, the team really needs to consider another guy who can play near the GL. Murray or Fournette could do that. You are looking for a short yardage back, you can find that.
It's done championships are one with the defense You're not going to be seeing Goff throw for 500 yards every game but then again you kind of stop the other team They couldn't stop a beach ball yesterday.
Keep it real bro they're not great Davis is old Levi is trash our whole d line trash secondary playing man has to change who plays like that ag needs a new scheme cuz with players we have we ain't winning a super bowl or even going to 2nd round we will be lucky if we make it to nfc championship
They had a bad game because they always start dlow/conservative and got exploited because of it. Bad coaching decision's along with a very battered D didn't help either.
We can't keep Vildor there anyone we have is better. It's time for Martin to do something or get the f@#$ on tired of babying this guy 3round picks should have earned a spot by now!
Well I believe in miracles.thankfully our players are Christian ✝️ and we need to send prayers for their speedy complete recovery. Stop with negativity.
Lions defense simply needs to keep the scores close in the 4th quarter. I'll take the Lions in a 4th quarter tie vs anyone in the league, anytime, anywhere.👍
Tough Breaks. Shit happens. You dream with your expections to be good with the Lions. I have been failed several times over my 80 years in Detroit. Good Luck. 30 carries a day. Good Luck. Slot receivers are questionable. come on now man. There is a reason you do not play.
It might take away some of our safety work but I would put Brian branch on the outside I do not like vildor I just don't trust him Baki spells Montgomery and some safety inside I still like the Lions but we got to throw the ball more Go Lions
If we can pull this through, we will make history and it will be the greatest success story of the NFL

Yep, let’s just see how the boys play with the changes. Wouldnt be surprised if a new star is born 🙂↕️
From that first half as long as we can pressure darnold enough we can probably win

@dace938 the key word is team, as in 3rd string included
At a certain point, you need more starters available to accomplish the ultimate goal. We have reached this point and too many starters are done for the whole season

I agree I do hope Goffs pass game continues. They are going to need it. Plus, he should be more of a mobile quarterback like Allen.
Don’t want to overutilize Gibbs and get him banged up. Reynolds and Vaki can provide snaps. Weather in Chicago won’t help keep everyone healthy.
More handoffs to Gibbs means he will be injured soon too
Hoping not. I hope he balls tf out.

He won't get more carries, Reynolds and Vaki are very capable also.

Bad injuries happen on every surface, it's not the turf.

Lions loosing next 3 games, picking this shot defense apart 😢
