@@00Fisher00 Well...we know Who they don't worship. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Masonry is a masquerade and its easy for those involved to become caught up in doing their "good deeds" here on Earth. *Acts 4:12 NIV Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.*
... so you're saying that J Smith had no engagement with Masnory until he joined,, and therefore church rituals couldn't possibly have originated from the Masons, yet his FATHER WAS A MASTER MASON...?!!! hmm...
No, Joseph Smith recognized some truth in certain symbols that Freemasons used and incorporated those along with revelation he received. If you study the details, it boils down to basically that.
You're expecting that Joseph Smith's father blabbed everything to Joseph Smith? You really think he would violate his obligations as a Mason? Hyrum Smith also was a Mason. Some called him a "High Mason" but do you really think he would violate his obligations as Mason? For what purpose? What genuine, primary evidence have you for that? Then again, a lot of what has been claimed about the Masonic connections has been utterly without merit. Frequently, the starting point for the claims and comparisons have been from rituals in which Joseph Smith couldn't have participated, such as from older versions of the Scottish Rite (there also was no Scottish Rite in Illinois until 1846), or from Monitors published in 1860 or later, or from obscure rituals or organizations of which Joseph Smith would not have been aware. Anyone can take snippets of text out of context from various sources, rearrange them, and then claim that they are direct evidence of borrowing. Are there some elements that have a certain amount of correspondence? Yes. But is one just a copy of the other? No. Not at all. An apostate from the Church, Fanny Stenhouse (whose husband also was a Mason at one time), said the following about such claims: "I has always been commonly reported, and to a great extent believed, that the mysteries of the Endowment House were only a sort of imitation--burlesque, it might be--of the Rites of Masonry; but I need hardly say that this statement when examined by the light of facts is altogether ungrounded and absurd...." (Fanny Stenhouse, _"Tell It All": The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism_ [Hartford: A. D. Worthington and Co., 1875], 354.)
@@OmegaMan28 No, he did not. We know the exact dates when Joseph Smith was initiated, passed and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. He never went on to participate in anything else beyond that. Besides, in fact, there was no Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in Illinois until the year 1846. That was four years too late. The proof texts you have in mind actually have at their root mistranslation and misunderstanding, as well as being taken from their historical and cultural contexts. Several times the Bible says that people saw or will see God (Moses, 70 of the elders of Israel, Isaiah, Stephen, angels of little children, those who are pure in heart, and those who will dwell in the city of New Jerusalem). And that passage in Isaiah that you have in mind comes from a section of Isaiah that has been rewritten so many times by scribes, and interpolated, that many scholars have come to believe it was written by a different author, and that the Book of Isaiah was written by two or more authors! Freemasons didn't establish the "Mormon" religion. It was established by non-Masons before many members of said Church later became Masons. Joseph Smith was the one directly involved in and leading the organization of the Church. That is historical fact.

Ironic, a free Mason as Joseph who tried to find protection from masons, was left alone from the brotherhood in many instances of his life. Read about the beginnings of masonry, the founders had to change their history about how to be more efective in bringing more people into the brotherhood. Read how little Joseph knew about the Mason's deep rituals. By the way, Joseph Smith was a true prophet of GOD. I have been a member all of my life (67 years) and I am an inquisitive person from my youth. When I was a teenager I wondered about this very thing. There was a book out called something like, Freemasonry and the LDS Church. It was readily available, and I read it. Obviously it did not shake my faith. I think many people in the church were afraid to explore these things, but the information was available.
Debrah Roundy did you explore gematria? The mathematical code the masons use? Look into it to find out how the false Jews mentioned in revelation operate. Gematria effect news for truth
They are not condemned but this is not God's method but rather that of men. Freemasonry members are Gnostics and worship who they call the creator of the universe and it is not revealed until the 33rd degree that this is Lucifer. Since they are obligated to follow the orders of their worshipful masters, the pyramid structure is headed by Lucifer and so all Freemasons are Luciferians by default. They use human sacrifice to control all of mankind. It originates in the apostate church which is Babylon from the Book of Revelation. They use Freemasonry to control all pulpits that I have witnessed, openly having to display the hidden hand, the single finger in the air, the OK sign or the pyramid when they bring their hands together. Another common symbol is the use of black and white color combinations or orange which stands for 33rd degree. Scripture says that the wink of the eye is used to denote evil. Their signs and symbols are to send messages to one another. It alludes to hidden or secret knowledge which is the basis for Freemasonry. You should also be aware of the Kundalini Spirit which is a the serpent spirit. It is common to use words and spoken messages with hidden meanings shared only with those in the know. They like especially to spell words in reverse. None of this is has anything to do with Christianity. It is Satanic witchcraft trying to plant ideas trying to accomplish mind control with subliminal messages. They control FEMA which is the hidden government. All should repent from this system that forms the beast.

I was an LDS for 30 years, my dad was a Mason. I made the connection early because I knew a little about Masonry. I had never heard anyone in the church make the connection. It was definitely confirmed when I toured Nauvoo and there was a Masonic Lodge in the downtown section. Not a believer that signs used in the Temple and Masonry were separate! I believe there are too many coincidences to be a coincidence!!!
Well, they aren't exactly the same. In fact, there are signs in the LDS temple ceremony that have no counterpart in Freemasonry. Of course, if a temple patron gave the tokens wrong, the first two would be identical to those in a Lodge. But if given correctly they are not even the same. The other two are not identical or even close to anything in Masonic rituals. Sad thing about the attempts at drawing parallels is that text has to be sifted around and taken drastically out of context to make the parallels look closer. Worse, a good amount of such material is taken out of a book published in 1860, and that is too late to be of use. Even worse, this latter material was part of two Rites to which Joseph Smith never belonged.
@@BrandonCole_edohi I don't know if you know this but I think you will find it interesting. There is a church I believe its Italy that has art up on the ceilings and it very much looks like what goes on in the Temple. As you study about Free Masons you find that they were an organization that would do special rituals in Catholic and Christian chapels. As time went on as with all the doctrine of Christ it got corrupted. Also there is history books written by Christians dating around 300 AD and they talk about Temple clothing. You also find that the Masons did design for all the old chapels for the Catholics and Christians. It wasn't till around 1351 when Pope Leo said they were of the devil they become much like they are now. They went into hiding because after that it was off with your head or a burning to the stake. So Masons continued on as a secret organization much like it is today. This is also why when Josephs version of the temple rituals is of God first Joseph revealed the temple endowment before he became a Mason, second the differences are many sure it has similarities to Masonry and you now know why.
@@BOON70 Regarding the ancient sources which you've referenced, correlation does not equate to causation. Stone Mason guilds were contracted to build; it wasn't until gothic architecture started going out-of-style that they became speculative Masons. Joseph did adopt the Masonic teaching model (theatrical presentation, mnemonic devices, illustrative symbols, etc.) and adapt it to teach the Church's already-existing doctrine. However, the subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry.
It is not true to say that Joseph learned the divine truths of the Endowment before his encounter with Freemasonry. It is true that it was before he became a mason himself, but having a father who was a Master Mason and brother who was a mason, that he was close to, means he knew a thing or two about Freemasonry, long before he joined.
In very general terms only, but Masonic rituals were NOT SHARED outside of Masonic temples. Those rites are entered into with strict promises to not share them to outside groups. In fact, the anti-mason movement was ignited in 1826 when William Morgan, a bricklayer in western New York "disappeared" after he "supposedly had broken his vow of secrecy as a Freemason by preparing a book revealing the organization’s secrets. When no trace of Morgan could be discovered, rumors of his murder at the hands of Masons swept through New York and then into New England and the Mid-Atlantic states."
Given that: - Joseph Smith, Sr, and Hyrum Smith were known to be honest men of integrity - the subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry, the hypothesis that they would have shared the secrets of Freemasonry with Joseph is both unlikely and irrelevant to the topic of the Church's temple endowment ceremony.
O yeah they did not deny he was a mason. One thing he should have discuss, Masonry banned Mormons for many years from becoming members of the craft because of Joseph Smith
Mun Moon Why does that need to be discussed? People pay too much attention to Joseph Smith the man instead of his works. The gospel itself is divine, men are mortal. Trying to dissect everything about a mortal man did or didn’t do in his life is temporal. It’s not as important as the divine. Joseph Smith lived so long ago and he was lied about so much. Plus nobody alive today knew him. His own writings are available and there are some of his posterity with journals. But it would be like saying when someone writes a book we should get to know everything about them, their whole life should be on show. That isn’t what’s important. What they wrote in their book is. I hope I’m not coming off as rude. It’s just too easy to get caught up in Joseph Smith himself, which you would never still really know him. Dissect the gospel of Jesus Christ and test it. That’s what important, the divine.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were banned from being Masons under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Utah for most of the 20th century; Joseph Smith was not cited as the reason for this ban. There was no such ban against members of the Church under any other grand lodge's jurisdiction. The Grand Lodge of Utah saw the error of its ways in the 1980s and therefore lifted the ban.

A few years ago I toured a Masonic temple. As a Latter-day Saint, it really freaked me out how similar the two temples were and the ceremonies. (Or so i thought.) it caused me to doubt my faith. Instead I should’ve doubted my doubts. I went inactive for a while after that. A few months later one of the missionaries who initially taught me when I was investigating the church happened to reach out to me. Not only did he help me come back to church, he helped me understand my doubts, my faith crisis, my questions were normal to ask and that my concerns and struggles were going to be eliminated through the atonement. That man is now my husband, and I’ve never had a stronger testimony!

Nope. Charles Taze Russell was not a Freemason, much less of the 33°. Neither was Joseph Smith coroneted an IGH. And I would know. If they were, I'd find their names in the lists. And I don't find their names in the lists. That said, Joseph Smith was a Mason. He was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason (that's 3°, not 33°). But that didn't happen until 1842, 12 years after the Church was first organized in 1830. You've got to watch those time lines and historical chronologies. Only a true relationship with Jesus can save you from eternal damnation, no matter what good thing anyone does. There’s too much sin in freemasonry you can’t be a Freemason and a follower of the Lord at the same time. The Bible is the word of God
Be a decent human being. Help those in need wether you have a little or a lot. Follow the ten comandments and, accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. It's not rocket science.
Nobody follows the 10 commandments. It's impossible. It's a test for us to reflect and know that we are sinners. So we continue to praise Jesus. It's a measuring stick. Nobody is without sin. And no one follows the 10 commandments to the letter. None
Is not the First and Great commandment to love God? And the Second to love thy neighbor as you love yourself? Yes, it’s hard to obey all the commandments at times. That why repentance is so critical. Another great commandment is Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” I can tell you myself, this is probably the hardest commandment to keep. How great is it then that our Father in heaven in merciful! Nobody said that we’re earning heaven. If that was the case nobody would make it. It’s God’s mercy and grace, it’s Christ’s sacrifice and love that saves us. Life is more than just being a decent person and praising Jesus. It’s about aligning your will with the Fathers, keeping his commandments, serving others. It’s about becoming like our savior, and Heavenly Father. If this is not the case then why does God care? Why create this marvelous world, our bodies, our spirits, only to make a few happy forever? Heaven is so much more than joy, it’s so much more than just peace and goodness. It’s inheriting everything the Father has through Jesus Christ. “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
@Latisha Queen It's odd for you to tell someone you don't know that their father is the devil. I recommend that you not make assumptions about people, especially those who are merely asking questions.
This seems to be glossing over the overwhelming similarities of the Masonic rituals to the endowment ceremonies, which are nowhere to be found in the Bible. How can anyone think that Heavenly Father would, all of a sudden in Joseph Smith's day, require Masonic clothing, Masonic terminology, Masonic handshakes and grips, in order to be with Him? Would He test their memory in order to show "worthiness"? How many members of the church would stop their tithing if it wasn't a requirement to go to the temple? It seems that this ceremony is a convenient way to get money from members.
Exactly! Not to mention it's a whole other religion. So why allow Mormons to be part of a different religions? Doesn't that go against and violate the commandments of the bible of no false idols or other gods before him?
I have heard others talk about tithing this way before. My thought is this. If it was considered "robbery" in the New Testament (Malachi3:8) to NOT pay your tithing, then one could pay tithing so as to not rob God. Also, one could pay tithing to receive the blessings mentioned in verse 10. Do I pay tithing to enter into the temple? No. I pay tithing to build up the kingdom of God, receive blessings, and to be obedient to God's commandments. On the other subject. God uses simple things to help us follow and return to Him. As an example, in order to live, after being bitten by "fiery serpents", one only had to look at a brass serpent Moses made on a pole to survive the bite. Why? I think it was so the people could show faith in God. Besides, who's to say that Satan did not copy ancient temple rituals and distort them into Masonic rituals. I mean we know that anciently baptisms for the dead where preformed. (1 Corinthians 15:29) And lastly. God does not test worthiness thru memory. You are mistaken in that concept.

Both as a temple-endowed member of the Church and as a Freemason, I wholly disagree with the premise of your comment here. The similarities between the Church's temple endowment ceremony and the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry are both few and superficial. Joseph adopted the Masonic teaching model (theatrical presentation, mnemonic devices, illustrative symbols, etc) and adapted it to teach the Church's already-existing doctrines in its temple endowment ceremony. The subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry. Regarding the Law of Tithing, it is a lesser law which we are currently required to obey; this is because the membership was not found to be ready for the Law of Consecration. I'm sure that there were some who said the same about tithing in Abraham's day and many who said the same about giving up all possessions in Christ's day as what you've said here. However, tithing donations today are used to build and maintain our buildings as well as to keep the Church self-sufficient.
Brigham was entitled to his opinion; however, this comment was never canonized into the doctrines of the Church. Prophets are not considered omniscient or infallible in the Church and are therefore allowed to have incorrect opinions. Had his comment been canonized, then it would carry the weight of authority in the doctrines of the Church.
I became a Master Mason to test my faith and explore the similarities with the LDS church I was baptized into. Joseph was made a Master Mason on site by an authoritive person in other words the Grand Master. I did the footwork and learned the signs, tokens, verbage and ritual. I am simply a dues paying member now and an inactive member of the LDS church. Members of the church speak badly about masonry and members of masonry speak badly about the church. I really don't trust either. Signs and tokens won't get you exalted into gods kingdom. Works and faith will. Love how hard the church tries to reconcile temple worship with Masonic rituals! Isn’t it amazing that just two weeks before Joseph Smith implemented these he became a master mason. Not revelation! Simply Joseph doing what he always did! Using the very things he had in his own life to make a religion.
Have you never sought revelation yourself? You should. Everyone should. It's important to have a relationship with God, and to receive truth from Him. As you do, you will find that sometimes God reveals things to you directly, but sometimes He helps us recognize truth that already exists in the world around us. The same was true for Joseph Smith.
I'm very happy to not see anti masonic propaganda. Masonry is an amazing institution that doesn't conflict with religion and in fact promotes you to live a more Godly life. Lots of Christian churches are very anti masonic so I'm happy to see some churches being more understanding 👍🏻

The subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Masonry. Jesus Christ says that he was the temple, he made it clear that we are all living temples, so there's absolutely no need for "divine inspired" corruptions to accomplish the entering-in of God's presence, because everything points to Christ.
Jesus Christ says that He is the true, and new temple. His life on earth allows us to "enter into Him". To abide in him. "God incarnate" is synonymous with "Temple" as Christ in human form solves the problem of the temple's limitations. Before Christ, humans needed a temple building so they could walk into the divine- or heavenly presence. Christ walking on the earth was the same heavenly presence of the temple- but in a human body. Since Christ ascended into heaven, he gave us the Holy Spirit to enter in us so that we can always be living filled with that divine temple presence wherever we go- so long as we turn to Christ alone as our only divine source and stay repentant. If we want, we can still worship in our temple buildings and try and get divine presence to dwell in them but, it becomes impractical and excessive- if all that work can be done because of what Christ already is for us- and in us. "Incarnation + Holy Spirit in us" > "Temple"

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God’s kingdom on the earth, the work has progressed and accelerated despite opposition at every turn and severe persecution in its early days. It will continue to roll forth unhindered by the works of man or random UA-cam comments.
I believe that its also possible that Joseph Smith joined with one purpose being to fit in/gain relationships in Illinois after being persecuted and kicked out of Missouri.
As an active life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a Freemason of almost 12 years (Mastermason and a Past Master as well as a member of a concordant Masonic body), this video is very well done and does an excellent job of explaining the similarities and differences between the Church and Freemasonry. While there are some similarities, there are many differences.
Mauricio G. Have you asked God if The Book of Mormon is the word of god with all your heart, might mind and strength having a full intent to know truth? Questions are easy.
This is so funny😂 How am I not surprised Joseph Smith was a freemason😂 Freemasonry is satanism is disguise. So what does that mean when a freemason starts a new religion based on the testimony of one man?
@@00Fisher00 In the very hard to find book, "Morals and Dogma of Freemasonry", it states clearly there that to them, lucifer is god almighty. Satan is the god of the lodge. The lower level masonic initiates are not privy to this information, admission, however - only those at the highest levels - typical of such secret societies, including the mormon church.
As Latter Day Saints we are taught to seek after good and praiseworthy things. If the Freemasons are about trying to be a better person and citizen in your community I can see why so many LDS people gravitated toward them.
If the fraternal orders of Freemasonry are such a benevolent society then why do they work in secret? Why are the lodges to this day segregated between male and female, between blacks and whites? Jesus said, In secret, I have told you nothing. Our Lord kept no secrets from those who followed Him. Yet, initiates in the Masonic Lodge are threatened with death if they reveal the secrets of Masonry. Sounds like something I would really want to join. Please read the Bible. Please read Ezekiel 8:16 and ask yourself whose alters face toward the east and why. And not the one in the Mormon church, but a KJV or ESV Bible. Take care.

"Parallels" is a gentle way of putting exact movements and gestures between the two that existed first in Freemasonry. They may ascribe different meaning to them, but make no mistake there are exact things done in both, beyond just similarities or parallels.

Some procedural things end up not being vital.
@@rustyf Most of the parallels critics claim there are actually are bogus. They take them out of context, twist what remains, and try to use ceremonies of Rites to which Joseph Smith never belonged or witnessed. And they often do it using a book published in 1860! How many years too late is that?
Yea, nothing weird about some guy hijacking the Gospel and creating a new Religion with it and adding a new book to go along with it and if you thought that was normal, it gets even more basic. The same guy has a brother AND FATHER who are both Freemasons, yep, nothing weird about that at all.
I have met people with similar concerns. What IS the gospel I ask? We believe the gospel to be 1. Faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ 2. Repentance 3. Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins 4. Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost and 5. Endure to the end (that is to say keep having faith in Christ and keep the commandments to the end of your life. Repentance is not a one-time thing). Does this sound any different from the teachings of Christ? No. It is the same. Both Bible and Book of Mormon teach of these things. I testify that the Book of Mormon and Bible are true.
Read Ezekiel 8:16. Masons have their alters face toward the east because the god they worship is themselves symbolic of the sun and not the SON. Jesus said in secret I have told you nothing. God keeps no secrets from us. Yet in the Masonic lodge, revealing the secrets of Masonry is punishable by death. Why? Because the true worship of the craft isn't revealed to the low level Masons who enter into the Blue Lodges and obtain the first three degrees of initiation. Masonry is an abomination to God. So is the Mormon church established by a blasphemous, secret society.

This explanation will work for those who already believe the religion formerly known as Mormonism but will not convince those outside. It’s designed as a defensive move against well-founded suspicion and criticism from non-Mormons.
The name of the Church has been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1838. "Mormonism" has always been a nickname. This video isn't meant to convince anyone to join the Church of Jesus Christ; it's just providing helpful insight.
Those of us with firsthand experience both as temple-endowed members of the Church and as Freemasons know that the suspicions and criticisms to which you refer are not "well-founded."
I also loved that, "Based on their experience with both, they (early members) concluded the temple ceremony was of divine origin." Similarly, the Book of Mormon is written in an approximation of Early Modern English, the language of the King James Bible... a form of English that _nobody_ had actively spoken in over a century, especially in the USA. In _both_ cases, the similarity serves an effective _marketing_ purpose. As psychologists have thoroughly documented, that which is _familiar_ is more readily _accepted!_ The biggest _difference_ between the two ceremonies is that Masons pledge to engage in actions that promote the betterment of _society,_ while LDS Church members engage in actions aimed at the exaltation of their _own_ souls. Certainly the Baptism for the Dead ceremony is for the sake of those who have already died, BUT unless one engages in such activity, one cannot reach the Celestial Kingdom, so the motivation is _still_ selfish.
But not the same. And that is the point. For the latter two of them, there is no similar in Freemasonry. For the first two, the only similarities involve the same finger and thumb, but the placement and execution of them are different, as are their meanings.
That was darn good. I visited Temple Square and the Grand Masonic Lodge of Utah on a visit to Salt Lake City. The two female missionaries of the Latter Day Church were great guides of the Temple grounds and the Utah Masonic Brethren were wonderful friends. A wonderful trip!🤝

Plus, historically, weren't the freemasons involved in the construction of Solomon's Temple? If so, it is possible that freemasonry was influenced by what was observed at Solomon's Temple, which would have been similar to the practices that were later revealed to Joseph Smith?
@Kevon John Nope. We Freemasons are "speculative"...in that, we do not actually get involved in building anything physical. It's doubtless that we were even formed in those days. It is more likely that we emerged from the stonemasons guilds of the middle ages.

Three different readings now are known. I'll put them into the order of oldest to latest. I'm sorry you "found out" something that was blatantly false. FYI, "Mormonism" isn't really anything. This video was produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is the true Church of Jesus Christ that has been restored in our time. Please be skeptical of those who would speak poorly of the Church of Jesus Christ, just as you would be skeptical of those who accused Christ Himself in His day. You can learn for yourself.
Hello from England, as a member and priesthood holders of 35 yrs. The fledgling Church needed help from whatever quarters it could get it. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I love our Saviours restored Gospel.
“It is finished” Jesus Christ . The gospel did not need restoration or the priesthood, The reason he came here was to atone for the sins of the world ending the need for animal sacrifice and establish his church . The Bible is very clear on this but your article of faith says that you believe the Bible as far as it has been translated correctly , That is convenient, so anything that is anti Mormon is a mistranslation and cherry pick the verses that support it .
@@Pound_Shift When Jesus Christ said, "It is finished," He was referring to his Atonement, and not the total work of God, which is evident from the fact that He returned after His resurrection and charged His disciples with carrying on His work in His Church. If you come to know the Church of Jesus Christ in our day, you will see how God continues His work through it. If you trust the words of the Bible, then you will understand the need for the priesthood: "And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron." (Hebrews 5:4) If you've ever studied the Bible much, then you'll appreciate the need for accurate translation.
@@Pound_Shift Actually, Jesus implied that the visible Church would die. That is the underlying thought regarding the gates of Hades not prevailing against the Church. The only way to face those gates is from within, and the only way to get through them to do that is in death. The key, however, was that the Church was not to stay dead. The latter is what is implied by "shall not prevail against it." The idea of the apostasy and restoration fits perfectly within the underlying meaning of what Christ promised.

I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. I KNOW that Joseph Smith was a prophet called by God to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ
Thank you for this solid overview of the Joseph Smith-Masonry connection. Those who look into it more deeply will find Joseph Smith left the Masons because he found they had become corrupted. I have inferred for many years that he was led to become a Mason in order to prime him for revelation that extended far beyond the radar of Masonry. In this there is a subtle endorsement of the idea that Masonry has indeed safeguarded truths over many centuries.
@@Hallowed_Ground I would not make a general recommendation to study Masonic history. From what I've gathered from a handful of researchers, the valuable part of what Masons have "safeguarded" (accidentally not altered or lost) over the years is found in dusty, seldom-viewed books, and the valuable portions of those books can be summed in a few paragraphs. A high level of scholarship and a great deal of spiritual discernment are necessary to sort that all out throught this direct approach. I've read that Masons claim a heritage of wisdom dating back to Solomon, or Egypt, or one other figure I won't mention yet. From an LDS perspective, any truth Egypt had came from Abraham and/or Enoch. What was revealed then can be revealed again, in its right time. Luke 8:17 “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” I would argue that God's people in different centuries require different components, or facets, of the truths available from heaven. No people can bear it all, we mortals are clumsy that way. So some of the truths that were appropriate for the City of Enoch, or the Saints the New Testament days, might not be appropriate for us right now. I believe that seeking to force "missing" truths into the view of the Church at large will be hard going. The time must be right for each concept, following the line upon line principle. However, individuals who feel drawn to look into this will find themselves rewarded. These are the people who don't ask for permission. I know a couple of them, not specifically regarding Masonic history, but other facets of our spiritual heritage. And one more thing. Eccl 1:18 reads, "For in much wisdom is much grief, And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow." From the sliver of understanding I have about these matters, I can say that this advisory is in full effect here. There is much to mourn, and much to forgive, when learning about what our clumsy, mortal forefathers fumbled in their day, leading to much suffering and darkness that we struggle with still. It is not for the faint of heart to learn about such things.
It should be noted that Joseph *opined* that Freemasonry was a corrupted form of priesthood. However, this was never recorded in the Church's doctrinal canon. It should further be noted that Joseph only adopted the Masonic teaching model (theatrical presentation, mnemonic devices, illustrative symbols, etc) and adapted it to teach the Church's already-existing doctrines in the temple endowment ceremony. Its subject matter, context, and purposes wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry. It should finally be noted that Joseph never resigned or demitted from Masonry. He died as a Mason in good standing.

Some advice for everyone: trust only those who let you have your freedom. Those who restrict it never mean good. If anything has a lot of secrecy, restrictions e.t.c. something's fishy behind it. Love and freedom has no boundaries.
Consider this. We are saved from sin by grace. That is not the issue. The issue has to do with exaltation. Exaltation is something that has very specific requirements beyond being saved. To be exalted you first have to be saved. We have faith unto repentance, we are baptized then we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. This starts us on the path. If we endure in the gospel of Jesus Christ then we are saved. To be exalted we go to the temple and make covenants with God. We strive to be as Christlike as possible and sanctify ourselves so we have an eye single to the glory of God. If we do this, if we overcome even as Christ Jesus overcame then He has promised us that we will sit with Him in His throne.
I will state this as a warning. Your actions can and will jeopardize the salvation of your soul. All of the apostles have warned against sin after receiving the grace of Christ. Do not ever be deceived into believing that your works don't matter. Have faith unto repentance and heed the exhortation of Christ: "If you love me keep my commandments."
How do you figure? A strong correlation between Joseph Smith being a mason and the temple endowment resembling the masonic rituals doesn't seem like evidence of truth in mormonism if you ask me. All this video really does is claim that he didn't steal the rituals. There's very little to go on here.
@@CollegeDreamJob what does it matter? Why does it need to be taught? What difference would it make to a member or investigator? For most people, the only reason this is an "issue" is because is because church detractors say it is.

Though Masonry's briefly shared history with the Church is interesting (perhaps even more so to Latter-day Saint Masons like myself), it is superficial, irrelevant to our Salvation, and therefore outside of the purview of our missionaries (excluding, of course, tour missionaries called to serve in Nauvoo and showing the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge building 🙂).
Thing is; mormons have no the slightest idea what free masonry is all about. It comes directly from the tower of Babel, Nimrod and buddies who build a tower pretending to get to haven and kill God, have children who are still hard at work. Since the devil could not do it in the war of heaven, his children promised, they will. So at the tower the languages were confounded and signs, and symbols became the preferred way of communicating among those involved in killing God after no one could understand one another. Today, all churches have a stipple on their church roofs, signifying the tower they have built so long ago, but now instead of killing God, which is not possible, kill spiritually His children. Also with obelisks, mighty tall towers, and stipples on churches they are as middle fingers pointing to God's throne. Truth is stranger than fiction. Mormons are as lost as the Ark of the Covenant. They have been totally deceived!!
You ought to talk to members of the Church of Jesus Christ as you pray for them. You ought to seek understanding first. Otherwise, it's like praying for a healthy man to recover from an illness he doesn't actually have.
I have always had a lot of love and admiration for the Church of LDS but it has just expanded four or fivefold. I was raised RC but joined the Anglican Communion, partly because it does not forbid Masonry. I was somehow not aware of the Mormon teaching that God and the good can be found in many places, and am extremely heartened to see that this extends to Masonry. I am committed to Anglicanism and the via media, but this has solidified my respect for your Church. Thank you.
Interesting, yet the Mormon church I grew up in didn't want any of its members learning anything outside the confines of its doctrine in order for its members to believe in God. This new development of accepting Free Masonry contradicts its long claim of "the one true church." Overall it's a bit comforting that this religion is coming to terms of revealing their truths to the world. At this point, what else is an entity supposed to do when it knows it screwed itself by the constant cover up to find that coming clean is an actual step towards Godliness.
The Church of Jesus Christ is merely using modern technology to make truth available. No one is being pressured to join the organization of Freemasonry; this video just provides information about it so that people don't have such great misunderstandings. The Church still is God's true Church upon the earth, and its members still are struggling human beings who seek truth and goodness. If you haven't visited ChurchOfJesusChrist.org recently, you might be surprised at how much information is available there at no cost to the outside world. I suggest that you reconsider how you are thinking about the Church and come to know it for what it really is.
What if the similarities between Freemasonry and the LDS church’s ceremonies date back further than anyone knows? In other words, who can say that the Masons didn’t receive these elements from Solomon’s temple and Solomon from Melchezidek’s descendants, etc.? My point is that these ideas and elements are of ancient origin and none of us were there when God may have given them to man (maybe Adam?). Just my two cents.
So what's with all of the masonic symbols (hand symbols, all-seeing-eye, #33, etc.) all over Hollyweird media, including violent and vile movies as well as music? Well, not only Hollywood, but throughout the world.
What about the parts of Mormon priesthood that were stolen from freemasonry. The keys, handshakes, secret words, etc. It’s kind of disingenuous to leave out the part that Joseph Smith used freemasonry as the basis for the levels of priesthood. Doesn’t seem very divinely inspired if it’s just ripped off from a fraternity.

If the temple endowment is eternal then why does it change so many times after church surveys and members complain about parts of it? and why can I find anybodys new name online as long as I know what day they went in to the temple? I thought that was a special name.
@funkyfresh There is a big difference between the ritual... and what is taught in the ritual. It was a special name... for you. There are only so many names in the entire world and there has been more people in the world than there are names. So repitition was enevitable anyway. But to let a name that you share with other people in a temple ceremony that happens to you only ONE time in your entrie life bother you to thinking that the name given to you to use is somehow not important because others share that same name. The Lord gave an example of this way of thinking. He called it straining at gnat. The Saints in Brighams day were far different than those of today. As children we would swear to someone that we were telling the truth by saying something like.. Pray to God, hope to die... stick a needle in my eye. That meant that were were really serious about what we were saying. The early saints to show how much they would keep the promises they made to God would speak a specific way that they would die before revealing what they were taught. In my childhood... as a Catholic... all the women wore hats with a mesh that covered their faces. We don't do that anymore. It was something that referenced reverance... and it was an outward sign. There are other ways today that we do different things that accomplish the same things. All these things we did would be considered rituals. And rituals are a way to help teach a concepte by repeating something over and over and over again. Christ never taught anything about the sign of the cross like Catholics do. That is one of their rituals. The endowment itself is very special. Joseph taught it with rituals... and some of the actual rituals have changed... but meanings have remained the same. It is not the words that have been used... but it is the words we now use. How do we show someone that we have an honored contract with them? In ancient times... they would do things like break a stick in two and give on side to each party... that anyone who had the stick the contract was with that person... and not necessarily the one who orginally agreed to the contract. They could break a stone in two... they could agree to a specific hand clasp... they could do whatever means that both sides agreed to... as a sign that they were the now the current owners of one side of the agreement. We learn that there are different non verbals signs that can be given that means something to just the parties of the contract. And yet others could have made the same verbal signs that means something completely different. It is alway between the two parties. And in the Temple... these were the rituals or signs that Joseph Smith used to teach the saints how important it was to remember these things.
@Tslav TV You don't seem to know anything about the Church of Jesus Christ or people's experiences in it. You would do better to seek understanding first.
There is a difference between the endowment and the presentation of the endowment, which you would have learned had you paid attention to the ceremony. The presentation of the endowment can be, and has been altered whenever and however necessary.
A few who are Latter-day Saints and Masons who provide appropriately sensitive deeper dives into the relationship between the Latter-day Saint temple and Freemasonry include: Greg Kearney, Mark Koltko-Rivera, and Ted Cross.
@@KTPurdy Sadly, some of Homer's stuff is a bit misleading. Frankly, I don't understand that. He connects Joseph with two obscure Rites that weren't even in America at the time, and were thousands of miles away. And, when I looked into the rituals of the Adoptive Rite, they had nothing even remotely like what is in the LDS temple ceremony. Like I said, I don't understand why he tried to make such connections.
What they are not mentioning is the current endowment does not look 100% like the endowment that Jospeh received. They keep modifying it throughout the years.

... so you're saying that J Smith had no engagement with Masnory until he joined,, and therefore church rituals couldn't possibly have originated from the Masons, yet his FATHER WAS A MASTER MASON...?!!! hmm...
No, Joseph Smith recognized some truth in certain symbols that Freemasons used and incorporated those along with revelation he received. If you study the details, it boils down to basically that.
God bless!! Repent, for The Kingdom of God is at hand!
No. Not at all.
An apostate from the Church, Fanny Stenhouse (whose husband also was a Mason at one time), said the following about such claims:
"I has always been commonly reported, and to a great extent believed, that the mysteries of the Endowment House were only a sort of imitation--burlesque, it might be--of the Rites of Masonry; but I need hardly say that this statement when examined by the light of facts is altogether ungrounded and absurd...." (Fanny Stenhouse, _"Tell It All": The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism_ [Hartford: A.

Regarding the ancient sources which you've referenced, correlation does not equate to causation.

It is true that it was before he became a mason himself, but having a father who was a Master Mason and brother who was a mason, that he was close to, means he knew a thing or two about Freemasonry, long before he joined.
thenowchurch where did you read that?
They are very similar, down to the "Magic underwear" (Holy Garments).
Given that:
- Joseph Smith, Sr, and Hyrum Smith were known to be honest men of integrity
- the subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Freemasonry,
the hypothesis that they would have shared the secrets of Freemasonry with Joseph is both unlikely and irrelevant to the topic of the Church's temple endowment ceremony.

(1 Corinthians 15:29)
And lastly.

Freemasonry does not qualify as a religion.
Brigham Young called the temple ceremony “celestial masonry.”

I am 74 years old now and was told by my father, when I was a young boy, another reason about this issue. When Solomon's Temple was built (957 BCE) those of his followers began using the Temple. However walls around the Temple were still being built. It was then that the "Masons" building the walls around Solomon's Temple observed the ordinances and that was how they created a version for themselves. Maybe someone could tell me - when was the Free Mason organisation originated? I found this in Wikipedia " The earliest known ritual places the first masonic lodge in the porchway of King Solomon's Temple"\
Ok. So basically, masons up to a certain point were literally stone mason unions. these were called "operative masons" , they began to form lodges as a place to care for those injured on the job and to provide a community for these guys.
at some point, no one quite knows when or why, they started accepting people who weren't actually stone masons, but curious intellectuals, ect. these became speculative masons. The Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary's Chapel) No. 1 seems to be the oldest that hasa direct line to operative masons

The subject matter, context, and purposes of the Church's temple endowment ceremony wholly differ from those of the degree ceremonies of Masonry.
I hope that this resolves your doubts regarding Masonry.
It did answer the question. The real question your asking is whether Joseph Smith was really prophet.
Jesus Christ says that he was the temple, he made it clear that we are all living temples, so there's absolutely no need for "divine inspired" corruptions to accomplish the entering-in of God's presence, because everything points to Christ.
Anything divinely inspired comes to us uncorrupted originally. Temple buildings indeed do point to Christ in all things.

At “2:20” they failed to mention that the secret handshakes were also “similar”
I also loved that, "Based on their experience with both, they (early members) concluded the temple ceremony was of divine origin." Similarly, the Book of Mormon is written in an approximation of Early Modern English, the language of the King James Bible... a form of English that _nobody_ had actively spoken in over a century, especially in the USA. In _both_ cases, the similarity serves an effective _marketing_ purpose. As psychologists have thoroughly documented, that which is _familiar_ is more readily _accepted!_
The biggest _difference_ between the two ceremonies is that Masons pledge to engage in actions that promote the betterment of _society,_ while LDS Church members engage in actions aimed at the exaltation of their _own_ souls.
I'm glad to see that these things are being discussed. Thanks for educating us.
You're welcome, Bob. Thanks for your comment.

King Solomon disobeyed the most high. He was deceived by Satan because his fleshy desires were too strong
@Kevon John Nope. We Freemasons are "speculative"...in that, we do not actually get involved in building anything physical. It's doubtless that we were even formed in those days. It is more likely that we emerged from the stonemasons guilds of the middle ages.
A good point to bring up. Not to mention that there is some confusion on whether or not Freemasonry is a religion in the first place.
Wow so glad you cleared that up! It all makes sense now! Halujabesuses

Why does the doctrines contradict the Bible texts then?
@@EmileKleinhans True doctrine doesn't contradict scripture, though it does contradict incorrect interpretation of scripture. In case you're interested, the Church of Jesus Christ uses the King James Version of the Bible.

@@EmileKleinhans Some problems are caused by mistranslations. Some problems are caused by faulty transmission of the biblical text. For instance, the Bible was made more monotheistic over the centuries. The original readings were less so. Here is one example out of thousands, that of Deuteronomy 32:43. Three different readings now are known. I'll put them into the order of oldest to latest. (I don't know whether you read Hebrew or not, so I'll put them into English for you.)
43 Rejoice, O ye heavens, with him, and let all ye gods worship him! Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people, and let all ye sons of God take refuge in him! When I found out that Mormonism wasn't born-again Christianity, but thinly-veiled paganism and high level freemasonry, I ran as far in the opposite direction as possible.

Run away from Mormonism!
Hmm, interesting. In your viewpoint, does this mean we should look into Freemasonry more closely?
@@Hallowed_Ground it means u should prolly wake up and leave the mormon cult
You're absolutely correct.
Luke 8:17 “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.”
I would argue that God's people in different centuries require different components, or facets, of the truths available from heaven.
Both as a temple-endowed member of the Church and as a Utah Freemason, I'm very happy and content with this video. The Church did a wonderful job in having it made.
Sadly this video is very decieving because it doesn't show the true secret combinations of the satanic Mason organisation. You would be blessed to leave the Mason's and hold solely to your membership in the LDS Church. Being a Mason is nothing to be proud of.

Some advice for everyone: trust only those who let you have your freedom. Those who restrict it never mean good. If anything has a lot of secrecy, restrictions e.t.c. something's fishy behind it. Love and freedom has no boundaries.
Any infringement on anyone's secrets is a violation of that love and freedom. Everyone has secrets, including you.
If this isn’t enough evidence of the TRUTH about the Mormon religion, I don’t know how much more is needed. This makes it obvious!!
Trevyn Campbell if it is such convincing evidence why don’t missionaries teach it? I never even knew he was a mason after 35 years in the church
How do you figure? A strong correlation between Joseph Smith being a mason and the temple endowment resembling the masonic rituals doesn't seem like evidence of truth in mormonism if you ask me. All this video really does is claim that he didn't steal the rituals. There's very little to go on here.
@@jacobopstad5483 haha I think Trevyn meant this "truth" makes it obvious (to him) that the Church is blasphemous.
@@CollegeDreamJob what does it matter? Why does it need to be taught? What difference would it make to a member or investigator?

Missionaries are called to teach basic Gospel doctrines.
I live in Utah and learning Joseph smith was a free mason makes everything make sense now ... my god. I pray everyday for the Mormons...
Thank you.
Correction, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, not Church of LDS.
Interesting, yet the Mormon church I grew up in didn't want any of its members learning anything outside the confines of its doctrine in order for its members to believe in God. This new development of accepting Free Masonry contradicts its long claim of "the one true church."
Overall it's a bit comforting that this religion is coming to terms of revealing their truths to the world.
If you had read the Documentary History of the Church, you would have known about all this already, many years ago.
Thank you for recognizing that masonry is for making better men , better society. This is true.
Why are you mason
So what's with all of the masonic symbols (hand symbols, all-seeing-eye, #33, etc.) all over Hollyweird media, including violent and vile movies as well as music? Well, not only Hollywood, but throughout the world.
God's truth is not to be found in such secret societies. Live in the light, and we will know you by your works.

The masons and the LDS are both organizations known for their many many good works for others 👍
2 Esdras 6:9
“For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth.”

Weird and nothing to do with Our Lord Jesus Christ.
A few who are Latter-day Saints and Masons who provide appropriately sensitive deeper dives into the relationship between the Latter-day Saint temple and Freemasonry include: Greg Kearney, Mark Koltko-Rivera, and Ted Cross.
On Truth & Liberty I listened to a really fascinating FAIR Mormon talk. I feel like Greg Kearney May have given it but I may be mistaken.
Don't forget Michael Homer
@@KTPurdy Sadly, some of Homer's stuff is a bit misleading. Frankly, I don't understand that. He connects Joseph with two obscure Rites that weren't even in America at the time, and were thousands of miles away. And, when I looked into the rituals of the Adoptive Rite, they had nothing even remotely like what is in the LDS temple ceremony. Like I said, I don't understand why he tried to make such connections.
What they are not mentioning is the current endowment does not look 100% like the endowment that Jospeh received. They keep modifying it throughout the years.
Jony Cruz yes that’s true as directed by the Lord to the prophet through revelation.
The doctrine presented and the covenants made are the same.
