What Is The Book of Mormon? | Now You Know

- Have you ever wondered how Mormons-properly referred to as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-got their nickname? It’s a pretty simple answer. Members of the Church read and revere a book of scripture called the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is not a replacement or substitute for the Holy Bible but a companion to it. Members of the Church are taught from the Bible and the Book of Mormon and consider both to be holy scripture containing the word of God.
The Book of Mormon takes place in the ancient Americas and is a compilation of spiritual and historical records written by prophets, just as the Bible is. The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the account of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ ministering, teaching, and blessing people in the Americas.
The Book of Mormon teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ, outlines God’s plan of happiness for His children, and tells them what they must do to gain peace in this life and exaltation in the life to come. The Book of Mormon exists to testify of Jesus Christ and His life and mission, confirming what is taught in the Bible and clarifying points of doctrine. Through living the teachings found in the Bible and Book of Mormon, people will find peace and truth.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
As a Catholic trying to learn about other religions for the betterment of my own knowledge, these videos are helpful in learning about the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so my appreciation goes out to you for such informative videos. Knowledge on Some Other religions information is not so easily attained.
Adrian Saavedra, I love this comment! If you have any question about what Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe, I’m on spring break, so if you reply to this comment I am more than willing to help you find information!
Sincerely,
A bona fide pious member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with an extensive Gospel Library at his disposal!
I'm glad! If you take a look at ChurchOfJesusChrist.org and ComeUntoChrist.org, you'll find that the Church goes to great lengths online to present scripture and other doctrinal statements, words of living prophets, music, and much more, all in a very organized way. There's a wealth of information to be found.
Adrian Saavedra I agree it’s interesting to learn about other religions ( I’m also a catholic and how they were created)
I'm a Latter Day Saint who has at some point had a desire to take time away from what I've known my whole life to study other religions like Catholicism to learn how much they differ from what I've been taught, though never had the initiative to act on such desires. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, even outside my own faith, who has such desires as well. Maybe now that I'm almost 30 and almost at a point of independence and with access to the largest database on the planet I'll start doing some research.
Jay Britton Fisher um, ew no
i’m glad they don’t block comments. it shows their confidence in what they believe to be true

I’m so grateful for the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If it wasn’t for me studying and praying about the Book of Mormon as a teenager, I don’t know if I ever would have taken an interest in God and coming to know Him. The Book of Mormon is what got me interested in the Bible. Through those and the words from Joseph Smith I’ve learned how to approach my Savior and live daily in His Grace. The Lord has never steered me wrong and He’s helped me get through some really rough trials in my life. I’ll always praise Jesus’ name!
Thanks for sharing about how the Book of Mormon has influenced your life!
The references to the Savior in the Book of Mormon are so positive and bring light to my life
Thank you for your comment!
Received my free copy of the Book of Mormon and to be honest, it helped me read the Bible more. I like learning about other religious scripture and my journey started with the Book of Mormon.
Glad it helped! Thank you for sharing!

I love how so many of us Catholics are on here watching this video. As someone who’s very interested in learning about other religions so I can better understand my own Catholic faith, I appreciate these informative videos
As a Mormon I attended a Catholic service recently. Very interesting.
I cant wait to read this book! I bought it today and I am going to pick it up. I am Catholic but this book seems pretty interesting. I want to collect all religious bibles to add to my book collection and expand my knowledge. I hope you have a great day!
This book has helped me in ways I can not even explain. I am very grateful for having the opportunity to live under the principles taught in this book by Jesus Christ and his prophets. I love the Bible and the Book of Mormon if more people would read this books together our world would become a better place.
Tona Cruz Ceron: How would reading these books improve the world?
Reading isn't enough... I try to include what I learn into my daily life. I love God & others. That makes the world a better place!
@Justin Draxx They complement each other wonderfully. Did you have any particular principles in mind?
@@seans5289 The principles of the gospel, when applied in our lives, contribute to peace, prosperity, and even improved economy because of improved general trust. Scripture teaches us to be self-reliant and to serve others. The solution to every human problem lies in the gospel, and we can read about it easily in books of scripture. Of course, reading and studying scripture is only useful if we change our lives to live by the principles, but learning the principles first is important.
This year 2022 I am reading both the Old Testament and the Book of Mormon.
This video cleared half of doubts regarding the book of Mormon ... and I'm really thankful for church's channel to upload the video... its filled with almost covering up so many gospel and sacred teachings and gives so muchh knowledge about the holy scriptures !! ♡♡♡

The Book of Mormon brought me to Jesus Christ.
Good stuff man carry on.
I'm not an official member of the Church of Christ LDS but I do accept the LDS Scripture Triple as my canon of Scripture. Glory to God for his mysterious work. I am a representative of the full body of Christ, and not just one church, but I do know the LDS are doing great work at sharing these testimonies of Scripture.
JakeGraceAndGlory - I am so glad that you accept the scriptures. Honestly, there needs to be more people like you in the world. Only if everyone had the perspective you have. I totally have my upmost respect to you.
If God has called a prophet to provide new revelation and scripture, and to restore His church, the true Church of Jesus Christ, would you not want to be a part of God's work in that church? You should visit sometime and worship with us. There is much work to do--many people who need to be served, and you are surely capable of rendering some of that service. It is so rewarding on a personal, spiritual level to be a part of it.
do your homework bro
hmmm, you don't quite understand our scriptures, first you can't be a full representative of the body of Christ since Jesus Christ has it's own own body and you has your own, second you have to remember we have extra scriptures because the restoration of the gospel has happened already in preparation for the second coming of Christ, so this is the church-no other- it cannot be more choices.
My papaw took me to a Baptist church when I was young, I can remember the preacher running from side to side shouting, and honestly I remember how strong that felt. Well my papaw passed in 2016 & I just turned 30 on may the 6th. Well I had a couple missionaries show up at my house the other day and they talk me into coming to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So I’m excited to be getting back in church, maybe I can return to Baptist one day, but I couldn’t turn these guys away!
Thanks for sharing! We hope you are spiritually uplifted as you worship with us. If you're interested, you can learn more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint at comeuntochrist.org?cid=42001274.

That's funny
Hehehe lols this comment made laugh haha.. the struggle is real for us members but if we obtain first the words of Christ then we will be guided when we declare it to others
I love this 👍 that’s great!
I’m going to start using that one
This is the best. However, you should probably say, "... but there's a book where he's in..." After all, it's not primarily about Mormon.
It only proves that Jesus is the promise Messiah He is a true and living God.
Jesus is the way the truth and the life Jesus said no one comes to the father except through me (Christ Jesus) turn to God JESUS is the only way to everlasting peace and love and happiness in Life Jesus is the way to heaven Jesus is coming soon repent trust in Jesus alone for the payment of your sin Grace through faith you are saved
No, not entirely, Jesus taught that faith alone will not save us, only by obedience to his commandments, repentance of our sins, baptism by immersion, and receiving the gift of the holy ghost and enduring to the end continuing to follow the path that Jesus has set for us so we can be more like him in our actions. I am a latter day saint and I have read the book of Mormon. I testify in the name of Jesus Christ that this book is true. I still read this book everyday. This book is truly another testament of Jesus Christ and supports the Bible, are we not told in Zechariah 8:7-8 in the old testament:
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; 8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.
In the book of Mormon: in 2 Nephi chapter 29: 6- 12 it says:
Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? 7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth? 8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. 9 And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever. 10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written. 11 For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written. 12 For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it.
I testify that this book is true and Joseph Smith was visited by Jesus Christ and heavenly Father and was called to be a prophet of God, to testify of the truthfulness of the Bible and the book of Mormon. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen

I love The Book of Mormon soooo much! Reading it daily has honestly changed my life for the better because it brings me closer to Jesus Christ. I'm so thankful that I have listened to the prophets council to read from the book every day, and I know without a doubt that the words contained in the pages are true❤
Make sure to read the actual Bible too everyday 💗
My favorite part of this video is that the ancient Native Americans called their own language "Reformed Egyptian"
Nathaniel Robinson No, they did not. “Reformed Egyptian” doesn’t exist but in the mind of Joseph Smith.
The peoples of the Americas in former times often had no written language. Egyptian writings date very far back, and evidently the people of the Book of Mormon had some knowledge about them. When Mormon compiled the records of his people, he did so in a form of writing that was based on something like Egyptian hieroglyphics; Joseph Smith referred to the form of writing as "reformed Egyptian". I hope that clears it up a bit for you.
CRAPS IT'S MEANT TO SAY IT WAS WRITTEN IN A language LIKE Egyptian but not strictly speaking actual Egyptian
But the Hopewell culture did. I had just found out that they were the Nephites and the Adena culture were the Jaredites. Also, I think the Mississippian mound builder culture were the Lamanites.

Wait. You say 'the Bible is complete'? But what about the biblical books that the Bible says are missing from the Bible? Do these books not matter?

If you read the first page. 1NEPHI CH.1 it speaks of the prophet Lehi and his family in Jerusalem (their home) before they left Jersualem to come to the promised land (N America) during the reign of King Zedekiah. And King Zedekiah is mentioned in the Bible and how Babylon captured Jersualem. The very thing Lehi amongst other prophets called by God to preach to the people of Jerusalem to repent or Jerusalem will be destroyed. And so God spoke it and so it did happen. Lehi and his family had already travelled towards the new land, the promised land. The Americas. You wonder where the Indians came from when Columbus discovered America was already inhabited. I read and love the Book of Mormon bc it increased self awareness and made me understand who God and our Savior really are. And how important we are to them but we need to wake up and do the work and not fear but continue to obey with exactness. It really opens up your spiritual eyes and u change. Good is good. GIG always always always. Faith is hard BUT it's a super power. So is prayer. You wont attain understanding of any of the great and marvelous things until you yourself search and do it yourself. It's all true. I know it. I testify it in His Holy and Sacred name, Our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
twenty20xx Just saying it’s true over and over again doesn’t mean it’s true, the Book of Mormon claims that massive civilization existed in America that build massive structures, had huge battles, and spoke ancient Hebrew. However when we try to find evidence for such claims we find none whatsoever. However when we search for evidence of events told in the Bible, we find everything exactly the way the Bible says. Joseph Smith was a false prophet who was deceived by Satan and is in turn deceiving you. Just like he deceived Muhammad who was the prophet of Islam. They both taught of a different Jesus that Jesus Himself warned of.
Matthew 7 21-23
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
@@eeeddddddiiieee You might be surprised at what evidence does exist that supports the Book of Mormon, and you would be surprised at archaeological evidence that doesn't correspond exactly with biblical accounts. However, you should know that members of the Church of Jesus Christ rely on faith in Him, and not scientific evidence, as the basis of our religious beliefs. Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God who testified powerfully that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. We go to God directly for a witness of truth, and He does not deceive us.

@@Cuinn837 DNA and archaeological studies are inconclusive about the Book of Mormon, and linguistic studies support the Book of Mormon. None of those are a matter of faith, though.
Hey, my son loved the Book of Mormon and uh... I kinda noticed that your Bible matches the Christian Bible. So, how come the LDS Holy Bible is not an inspired version? Also, what kind of reaction would you have when someone had published an inspired version of the Book of Mormon? (The one with the Book of Lehi in it.)
Hi Susan, The Book of Mormon is not a replacement or substitute for the Holy Bible, but a companion to it, and it testifies of Jesus Christ as our Savior. Latter-day Saints believe in an open scriptural canon, which means that there are other books of scripture besides the Bible (such as the Book of Mormon) and that God continues to reveal His word through living prophets. Revelations 22 warns against adding to "the book of this prophecy," or the book of Revelation. Nowhere does the Bible proclaim that all revelations from God would be gathered into a single volume to be forever closed and that no further scriptural revelation could be received. You or others interested can learn more about the Book of Mormon here: ua-cam.com/video/nyV61Hh9Kd/v-deo.html

"We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea" (Teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith pg345)
Yet we read in Moroni 8:18
For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but👉 he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity. 👈
facts
"Teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith" were compiled several decades after by his great Nephew. The records from the early 1800's were not perfect or extensive for that matter. Errors are certainly possible. The Book of Mormon on the other hand is canonized scripture accepted by all of the apostles, prophets, church leaders and members. Big difference.
Excellent explanation. Simple and to the point.
I love this book. It testifies of Christ. It is true, all of it.

Genius.
My question is... If Yeshua came and taught the Native Americans about who He was then why did Native Americans not know of Him until the Spaniards/Europeans came to the Americas?... Am I missing something here?
Jesus taught the Nephites. The Nephites were one of many civilizations in the Americas, which was wiped out around the fourth century BC by the much more numerous surrounding cultures, according to the Book of Mormon.
As mentioned, the people who knew of Christ later were destroyed. That is why their record had to be buried, and was not found again until the time of Joseph Smith.

Taylor Hansen’s book, “He Walked the Americas.” She investigated Native American folk-lore and history and found that many tribes all shared the same legend of an ancient white prophet that appeared and taught and healed and performed miracles. They all have different names of this prophet, but the names share translation roots back to Jesus. Hey, maybe it’s not what you’re looking for but there is one more, non LDS source in regards to what was probably the Savior in the Americas.
I feel like these answers are inadequate. Why would God choose a civilization to spread the Gospel if they were just going to get wiped out? Only to be later found by a “prophet” in a civilization that already had Christianity in it... God chose the Jews and despite the horrific things they have gone through, they survived.
@@defiance1790 God left a record of an ancient people so that we would have something to guide us in our day. There is so much confusion in the world; even among Christians there are great disagreements about the meaning and interpretations of passages in the Bible. Though the Nephites did not survive, their record was preserved, and through it we can gain wonderful knowledge of Jesus Christ. I could say more about it, but my explanations would really pale in comparison to what you can find out simply by reading the Book of Mormon. I strongly encourage you to read it and pray to God to know of its truth. You will not regret it.

The difference is that the Book of Mormon was not know in ancient days, and was specifically written for the people of our time, so it's not surprising that it should have such value for us.

It is better to read the Book of Mormon to yourself and you will know what is in it.
Just a quick question that I have had for a while. Why are Mormons always putting emphasis on the Book of Mormon and not on the Bible, or not treating them equally?
Have a great day!
I've got a few answers for you, but the last is probably the most important. First, our emphasis actually can be different depending on the context. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints studied a lot from the New Testament last year. That being said, many people already know about the Bible but do not know about the Book of Mormon. Also, many people who already read the Bible find great value in it but lack some understanding that the Book of Mormon will lead to. The writings of the Bible were from ancient prophets who wrote to the people of Israel, and while they're still very good for us to read, the writings were tailored to people of another time. While the prophets of the Book of Mormon came from the Nephite people, their writings were largely unknown among the Nephites but were instead intended for our time so that God could accomplish a work in our day.
Ultimately, though, if you really want to know why we read the Book of Mormon, the only way is to read it for yourself and see. Millions of people have done so and have found immense value in God's word that is contained therein. As you do the same you will understand why.
@Kyle Humpherys You answered this really well. I am also a member of the Church. I go to seminary too. I would just like to add that you won't get closer to God by just reading them. You would get closer by abiding by its precepts. That means living by them each day. Pondering the scriptures and studying. If you just read and not ponder, you won't get anything out of it.
I hope I worded this well. I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
The Bible is already accepted as the word of God so there’s so no more emphasis is necessary is not?
Proverbs 30:6
God is free to speak and add to His own word any time.
@@00Fisher00 I think this is where I have a slight confusion with Mormonism and would love some clarity. How do you justify scriptures which speak of adding and subtracting to the Bible? God can certainly add to His own Word, however where do you justify that The Book of Mormon is an extension of God's Word? Is it just by the belief that Jesus appeared to other prophets?
@@spdinsbeer1 To clarify, there are no scriptures which refer to adding to or subtracting from the Bible. Instead, a few prophets cautioned against altering their own works during times when the Bible as a single volume did not exist. People sometimes cite Revelation 22:18-19, where John used words including, "if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy," but the Bible was not compiled until several centuries later, so anyone who read his words at the time would have easily understood that "this book" was his own book--what we call Revelation. Moses wrote something similar toward the end of his writings in Deuteronomy 4:2 and 12:32, but if he had meant that no one could ever add to scripture after him, it would invalidate all of the rest of the Old Testament and all of the New Testament, and that sure doesn't make sense. To answer more of your question, yes, God instructed other prophets. The people of the Book of Mormon left Jerusalem and traveled across the ocean to inhabit a part of the Americas. In that era, being so distant meant that they had no communication with prophets in the area of Jerusalem, but God did guide prophets who were among them, and those prophets' writings were kept for centuries and eventually compiled into the Book of Mormon, so named because the prophet who did the compiling was named the Book of Mormon.
I'd encourage you to read it for yourself to know what it is, and as you seek from God to know of its truth you may find it helpful to ask others how they know it is true scripture. Best wishes to you.

They kind of skipped over how Joseph Smith translated the BoM. In the video, they show him at a table with the plates writing it out. This is not entirely true, though this is the same kind of flip-chart image I used on my mission. I didn't know then it didn't happen like that. The church later disclosed or made more public, that Joseph had his face in a hat reading the words that appeared on a stone at the bottom of the hat while scribes on the other side of a curtain wrote down what Joseph said. There's even a photo of the stone on the church's website. I feel bad for having misled my investigators about Joseph sitting at a table with the plates, translating them with no mention of his face in a hat reading words off of a stone. It was sad, though I did laugh, that the South Park episode about the church had it more historically correct than what missionaries and the church teach. Even when "I" was an investigator I think I would have laughed at a flip-chart with an image of Joseph with his face buried in that hat.

Joseph Smith used different methods at different times, and what is depicted here is, in fact, accurate. To suggest that only one depiction is accurate would be over-simplifying things. Some things sound or look more strange (like a man who talks to a bush on a mountain that burns without burning up in order to talk to God, and he has to take off his shoes first), and there's no reason to make people laugh when presenting the gospel. Things that seem strange at first seem less so when we understand why they happened the way they did, but longer explanations aren't possible in short videos.

It is only through Him that we can receive salvation and exaltation. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. That is Jesus Christ.

Hey it's my favorite book!
With all due respect, how do we know that anyone's story of translating or adding to the bible is to be believed? I'd have a hard time betting on my soul to believe any single person could add to the bible.
Hi there, thanks for your great question. Far from undermining the Bible, the Book of Mormon supports its testimony of Jesus Christ. You can come to know the Book of Mormon, like the Bible, is the word of God by reading it and praying to know if it's true. If God answers that it is true, you will know that Joseph Smith was a prophet. You can learn more and request a free copy of the Book of Mormon here: www.comeuntochrist.org/beliefs/book-of-mormon
MMA Addict, the Book of Mormon is not an addition to the Bible; it is a separate volume of scripture. If I may ask, what do you already believe about the Bible?
Personal witness through constant prayer and communication with God helps. The Book of Mormon is an extra witness of the truthfulness of the Bible
@@00Fisher00 a separate volume is an addition...and contradictory on the fact Joseph smith allegedly saw God and his son when scripture said no man had seen God. I've read the book of Mormon and it is incredibly erroneous scripturally and hermeneutically.
@James Wines The account of Jesus visiting people in the Americas is in the Book of Mormon, not the Bible. Specifically, it begins in 3 Nephi 11.
why is Joseph depicted as translating from the plates, when we know that he used a seer stone and that the plates were never used during the translation? This is clearly stated on the church website.

As I said in another reply, yes, that is how he translated the scriptures. But it doesn't matter how he did it except that he did it through the power of God. The truth of the book lies in the message and testimony of the spirit that proves it is a true testament of Jesus Christ. Not in the way it was translated.
He didn't follow the exact same process throughout the translation. He learned as he went and became more capable, relying less on translation aids. There's more to the story, but if you're really interested you'll have to dive into some details.
@@00Fisher00 he never used the plates though, they were in a box/covered or not even in the room/house. You are dismissing that the plates were never really needed in the first place.
@@trevorjackman7733 Of course he used them, though he wasn't always looking at them. The translation could not come from the plates if the plates didn't exist.

how does one interpret what Jesus says in John ch10 v16 as referring to the inhabitants of North America?
It's simply a statement that He has other sheep, or followers; some of those followers left Jerusalem previously and traveled to the Americas.
@@00Fisher00 "Some of those followers left Jerusalem previously and traveled to the Americas."
Whose followers. Jesus' followers? They left when, before He made this statement, and before He was crucified? How do you get the Americas from this verse?
@@Christ_TheWay The covenant people of God looked toward the coming of Christ for thousands of years, having heard prophecies of His coming. Among those prophets were some whose writings we have in the Old Testament. The Book of Mormon relates a history of a people who came from them. In the time of Jeremiah, there was also a prophet named Lehi, whose life was threatened by people who didn't like his preaching. Lehi was warned by God to leave Jerusalem before its destruction; this was about 600 BC. Lehi's family traveled across land for a time, and then Nephi, one of Lehi's sons, built a boat with the assistance of his family, and they crossed the ocean, landing somewhere in the Americas. There was contention in Lehi's family, and after his death, Nephi left with some family members. Two nations grew out of the families, one named Nephites, and the other named Lamanites after Lehi's first son Laman. (There were subdivisions, but they were all broadly known as either Nephites or Lamanites. I personally think that the Lamanites also mingled with other peoples who lived on the American continents, but they weren't record keepers.) Some of the Nephites retained the records and traditions of prophets, and looked forward to the coming of Christ. In 3 Nephi 11, the account is recorded of Jesus Christ visiting the people there. While among them, He taught them things that He had taught the people of Israel; as part of that He mentioned the teaching of "other sheep" found in John 10:16, and explained to them (the Nephite/Lamanite people who saw Him) that they were among those other sheep. He mentions this in Chapter 15 (at www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/15); at the beginning of the next chapter He mentions that He has yet other sheep which are neither there nor among the people of Jerusalem. Later, the Nephites became wicked and were destroyed by the more numerous Lamanites; they last remaining Nephite, Moroni (the son of Mormon, who had compiled the records into the Book of Mormon), buried the gold plates upon which the Book of Mormon had been engraved. Moroni later visited Joseph Smith as a resurrected being to show him where the plates were, and this occurred in modern-day New York. Moroni had been wandering for a couple of decades as the sole survivor of his nation before burying the plates, and the Nephites had about 1000 years to move around within the Americas beforehand, so it's impossible to know exactly where they were, but Moroni ended up in the modern day New York region without having traveled by boat again, so his people must have been in the Americas somewhere. I was hoping to make that concise, but hopefully it answers your question well. On a side note, archaeologists gather a lot about pre-historic peoples in North and South America, but as yet it's impossible to directly associate the Nephites or Lamanites with any of them.
Really?
Read 3rd Nephi verse 11 your answer is there son.
