I feel if they lowered their price they could steal a large chunk of the Lightroom crowd and make even more money than they are now. I know theres tons of photographers like me that are price sensitive seeing as you still need to find a pixel editor while paying more per month with C1
I'm done with CaptureOne. After loosing tons of metadata for my photos I've created a support request just to learn that if you're not on the newest version (I have a perpetual license) you're not eligible for any support. Seriously, Adobe used to be the one disregarding the customers, but at this point it's the Phase One choosing short-term money against customer value.
Sorry to hear about the experience. I will say that I am not wild about the interactions I have had with Capture One before. There are some serious issues I have had with the program, design not issues like you are having, and they have not given me the idea of being all that receptive. Thank you for watching, sorry to hear about the experience you have had with the program.
I am using Capture One for long time, currently I am using Version 20 Pro. I find Capture One's UI very simple compared to Adobe's softwares. Maybe it's just me. But that's the basic reason I use C1. Color control is incredible. Thinking to upgrade to latest version. I do Photography for hobby, so perpetual licence price does feel heavy for the pocket.
I agree with most comments here, the software is way too expensive for what you get. I am moving over to food photography and downloaded the trial as their tethering is meant to be one of the best, after using it for a couple of weeks, I went back to LRC, no difference for me and i pay $9.99 per month for lightroom and photoshop, it's a no brainer.
I totally agree, the price is a hard point to argue against. But I will say that for commercial work, the import/tethering/export features of CP1 save me considerable time per job, and makes for a much better client experience. And when I take that time into account, against my hourly rate, the price difference in CP1 has paid for itself before he first quarter. But again . . . many photographers don't use or even know about many of those features.
It’s much much more robust at tethering for some cameras. I have a GFX 100sII and LR can’t tether it at all. I have to use either Fuji’s very basic app or C1. And it can tether with digital backs from MF cameras from the 90s.
Soon it would be cool to apply match look to just a certain value of tones or colors, Maybe even using color swabs to get specific colors to match reference photos. LUT control would be nice too.
May be you are right... so far !!!. The problem is that Adobe's subscription is half the price C1's. The day C1 is on par with Adobe, as for the price, maybe they beat it !!!
Interesting bet how long it will take adobe to implement match look feature too. this is outstanding at the moment and really pushes C1. for me as a hobby user i am about to switch.
They have had similar features, with lighting and color. In both LRC and PS, but nothing like this. I am sure they will come up with something soon. And in that time, can CP1 continue to make more ground in masking? Thank you for watching.
One thing I really like about Capture One is that the end result doesn't get tagged with "Made with AI" when posting to Instagram. Many of the photos I edited with LR often gets that tag even if I don't use AI. I think Adobe is currently overreacting to AI.
Thanks for doing the video. I’m glad I don’t need Adobe for video editing and I was hoping it would be the same for photo editing. Apart from its high price, this feature is only for a small proportion of photographers. Whereas I use masking on nearly all my photos plus generative AI a fair bit. Ugh. I’m stuck with Adobe for a while longer. I also recommend anyone wanting to eventually switch away from Lightroom converts all files to .dng files on importing images in.
Capture One has several problems, which include its high price, its mean spirited limited upgrade policy and technically its very poor noise reduction and sharpening. Even if you are prepared to pay the price, technically Capture One is still falling very short in some important processing areas.
@@haakon_b No, there is definitely more to it than that. Look at some of the deep dives into importing into various RAW processors. Contrast will co er some of it, but not all. In my case, I ran into an edge case that really highlighted differences.
In my use of the programs, I didn't see a radical difference between the two programs, but I am sure there are images where LRC does a better job than CP1, but I haven't seen it yet. But it is very early in the cycle of updates for 2025.
How can you not notice how crude the masking tools are in C1? The way you can paint a raw file before having to go to PS (or instead) in LRC is THE reason to own it IMO. That and file management. I used to use Bridge years ago but LRC just does it so well now. It’s also much easier to set up exports. That whole feature set in C1 feels like it’s stuck in a 20 yr old computer.
Yeah plus it seems that Capture is more gear towards portrait style photography like fashion and modeling. I used it in the past too but ended up going back to Adobe because of Photoshop and its other features like Adobe portfolio.
Capture One is definitely the best choice for professional use but for amateur use if it wants to compete with Adobe it should lower the price a bit. By thank you.
I think Capture One will always have a hard time competing with Adobe on price, it is why QuarkXPress died a quick death. What I think CP1 can do it make the user experience better for users, and that might bring more photographers over . . . maybe.
No it's not. Most professionals use Adobe. Basically Adobe Color was terrible, then it became bad and today is "me". Thetering was also soft. Today the color is competitive (I sill prefer Capture One's) and tethering is competitive. In terms of price, you need to have problems paying $21/month for Capture one when you can get Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop and 20GB of cloud storage for $9.99/month. It's such nonsense.
No its not, CO is geared more towards fashion photographers and there it has a strong following, but in every other aspect (Landscape, Arcitecture, etc.) Lightroom is the clear winner.
As for tastes and colors... For me C1 has advantages over LR. Just a few details. The price... for an amateur it is expensive but for a professional no, I pay much more as a programmer for updates to my tools. Why do I have to import my images? With C1 I have sessions that are much more effective. The LR interface is pitiful compared to C1. In C1 I have LAYERS, not what they sell you as layers in LR. What happens if I decide not to pay the subscription with my catalogs anymore? By the way, PS has a serious competitor and at an incredible price, Affinity Photo and without a subscription.
I will no longer support Capture One. Buying the software is useless if they will not provide any updates. Once I update my macOS, it will no longer work. Might as well pay for Lightroom and Photoshop instead.
CaptureOne need to make better file management tools and masking. LRC is much better at managing your portfolio. It’s not close. A decade ago Capture One was hands down better with Raw files. It’s not significantly better anymore. And now that C1 is also a subscription (and an expensive one too), I don’t see its advantage with Match Look helping. Yet.
@ wrong the masks in Lightroom are fairly rough. Andrea Liveri made a video comparing both and indeed it’s not close in that capture one produces better masks. Also capture one has both sessions and a catalog system whereas LR only has catalogs

Look at how C1 Pro looks 'straight out of Camera' compared to LR (CC, Classic, etc) and see that Adobe is not without its issues too.
Also, I find myself still using Photoshop, Lightroom is constantly updating almost every month with new software features and fixing bugs
@@v3rlonC1 just applies different contrast/color settings on import. Nothing to do with quality.

You should have show the same masks with Lightroom because the CaptureOne masks were pretty bad. The match style tool is amazing.

I'll keep my LRC. I have used C1 in the past, but it cost way more than LRC.
It is hard to justify the price when Adobe is offering such a good deal in the creative cloud. Thank you for watching!

The match look results are still better than the hideous Lightroom presets from most UA-camrs. 😂
